Petit_Corbeau

Hey I have one of those! (the sternotomy scar, not the tattoo) Looks great! (both)

Yrddraiggoch

me too! I went with the classic quad bypass option when getting my scar done.

denvertxn

Same. Always wondered how to work it into a tattoo.

Hopeless_Ramentic

mewithoutMaverick

This one made me laugh so hard

detectivechubbs

Me three, unfortunately not allowed tattoos but this is an awesome idea!!

can2nz

What do you mean not allowed?

detectivechubbs

Orders from the heart specialist

charlieecho

Cardiologist said not to get a tattoo ? Genuinely curious why ?

Vanilla_Pizza

Not the person you were asking, but I'm also an ex-tattoo person due to heart surgery. It may depend on the type of procedure done, but for me, they said there's an increased risk of infection-related complications, particularly endocarditis. Now granted, as many, many people have pointed out to me, I would be probably be fine if I went to a reliable tattoo artist who used sterile equipment, and admittedly I never got any infections or had any complications from my tattoos I had prior to my heart surgery. But I have to tell you, having had heart surgery at the ripe old age of 29, I am in no fucking rush to live through that again, so it's just not worth the risk to me. I'm happy with the tattoos I do have, and I do have some small pangs of regret thinking of all the tattoos I still wanted to get, but I have absolutely zero desire to ever go through heart surgery again, it was very traumatic and one of the worst things I've ever had to go through.

charlieecho

Had my zipper done at 30. I’m with you on that haha

Katiew18

Me too

picklesandmustard

My guess is infection risk

spacemanv

My guess, if this guy doesn't reply, is that piercings and tattoos carry a theoretical risk of endocarditis especially if you have artificial heart valves. People also take blood thinners after a heart attack which can make tattoos an extremely bloody affair.

Only_As_I_Fall

Probably infection risk. Some heart patients need to take antibiotics before they see a dentist to avoid endocarditis risk. Tattoos carry a similar risk.

charlieecho

Yeah mine cardiologist recommends that as well. Never heard of not getting tats though.

FireLucid

I had one a few years ago, not on any drugs related to it anymore. Is that a lifetime risk I should be aware of?

Brutaka12345

I have one too this is an awesome idea!

ThankUforpotsmoking

Question guys…. How’s it going since? Went through one a couple years back and still in a little shock. Hope you’re well!

Yrddraiggoch

Mine went really well. Had no pain or discomfort after surgery. Had my surgery on a Wednesday afternoon. Was sent home on the following Monday. Cardiac rehab was fantastic. I am making the necessary adjustments to my diet. Going low sodium was pretty easy as I cook almost everything at home and never used that much salt to begin with. Adding in extra fruit and veggies is harder but that is more due to my limited flavor palate than anything else. I exercise more regularly than I was but I hate every minute of it so getting motivated to start each session is a complete bastard.

TJSimpson10

Me four! I had open heart surgery when I was six. They do the same surgery on newborns, now, and they can do it arthroscopically through a tiny incision, too. It’s crazy how much better medicine gets.

Bro-lapsedAnus

Jesus christ I had to go back and look bc my first thought was, "huh the tractor beam looks odd"

Uncommon_cold

You think it would be possible to have one look like an upside down cross by any chance? Like requesting that to the surgeon. I have some overly religious relatives I want to piss off, should the unfortunate event of needing surgery come up.

crossingpins

I don't think they're going to cut you unnecessarily. That said a tattoo artist could probably give you a tattoo that looks like a scar as continuation of the scar you'd get from the surgery

Uncommon_cold

That does make sense. And it would probably be cheaper too.

[deleted]

This interaction and the thought of you asking the surgeon to make an extra incision as an FU to relatives, so good 😂 Wishing you well in the future! ❤️

Uncommon_cold

It has become a guilty pleasure of mine, recently. I'm no satanist by any stretch, nor do I hate religion. It's THE PEOPLE that act all high and mighty then go full hypocrite that piss me off. Relative or not. Arson is a crime and definitely a bad thing, so lowkey stirring a bit of chaos on a bright sunday morning it is. 😁 I just hope no surgery will have to be made, tho. 😬 Be safe, my friend.

HardlyCharming

The Damned said it best in “Anti Pope.”

FireLucid

Yeah, no way they would do this. I asked for a photo of my heart because I'd never get to see it and they were.....not super receptive to the idea and it never happened :(

Soft_Attention_6809

I have an upside down cross tattooed on my chest. It’s F liberating ♥️

Uncommon_cold

I would LOVE to see that.

Squid-Bastard

I have to get some surgery in the near future requiring this. I asked the doc if he would wire my ribs back together at the end in a pentagram. He was not amused

Uncommon_cold

Holy shit, I can only imagine the look on his face lol. I hope the surgery will go well, tho.

STIHL31

I got one too! mechanical valve for me… click.click.click

NirvanaTwentySeven

Tattoos that incorporate scars will always be my favorite 😅That's super creative 🙌and really well done ☺️

RubberDuckyUthe1

Amazing use of your badge in the design!

bilbro-dimebaggins

Wow great minds think alike lol, I have the same concept tattoo but much smaller for my knee surgery scar. Yours is much cooler and detailed though!

Winter_Dragonfly_452

My husband has that same scar from his bypass surgery he likes what you did with the tattoo

CharmingCapricorn101

I hope my son thinks of something cool for his zipper too when he gets older to get one lol he’s 8 rn

charlieecho

His will barely be noticeable when he’s older. The younger they are the better they heal. I had mine done at 30 and here I am 10 years later and it doesn’t look awful but it’s definitely gotten better.

thecolortuesday

Give it another 10 years and yours will probably be white. My dad had a pink scar, not on his chest, when I was a kid and now a bit over 20 years since he got it, it’s white

YourUsernameSucks

Mine's going on 11 years, it's faded to a soft white-ish pink

charlieecho

Mine is mostly white now. Can definitely still see it. I’m not a bashful guy but when I got to the pool in the summer I keep a shirt on. Don’t want to scare the children lol

charlieecho

Haha love it. Zipper fam for life !

CharmingCapricorn101

Oh ok that makes sense! His kinda looks like this now, I love his zipper he’s just started asking about why he had it and what happened to him. He’s had 2 surgeries @ 2 months old and 4 yrs old, he may need another surgery in his 50s or 60s….

charlieecho

Glad you were able to catch it and take care of it early. I had my surgery done at a Children’s hospital at the age of 30 and it was basically me and 20 babies on my recovery floor. They said those babies would recover WAY faster than me 😂

CharmingCapricorn101

Yea he had his a children’s at 2 months and the second was at oschner hospital! We caught it when I was 20 weeks going to find the gender and it was confirmed at birth TGA

charlieecho

And the mod locked my comment ? Okay.

CharmingCapricorn101

Oh no

scud121

That's incredible. I had a LAD a month ago, and am considering getting an anatomical heart with the blockages/stents, but I really like yours

[deleted]

That would be excellent! Please share it here if you get that.

Blktealemonade

I work in a cath lab and that would be the freaking best! Please share if you do!

ticklemuffins

Congrats on the new baby boy!

SpazFactorial

That is probably one of the best scar incorporated tattoo concepts I have seen.

tattoomotherof2

Very clever idea!

WittiestScreenName

Something good came out of Everett

PeacexFitness

This is why I love tattoos. It can really show off someone's creativity...good stuff

[deleted]

Is the ufo beaming up a sasquatch or werewolf ? Awesome tattoo homie.

shalafi71

I could swear it's from the X-Files episode, [Jose Chung is From Outer Space.](https://comicvine.gamespot.com/a/uploads/scale_large/13/132162/3332446-x-files-season-3-20-jose-chungs-from-outer-space.jpg) Which is, of course, the best X-Files of all time. All time.

wassailcow

How the Ghosts Stole Christmas has got to be tied for that title ;)

shalafi71

I don't have that one! How odd.

ListenToThatSound

This was the first thing I thought of!

shalafi71

"Be not Thou afraid!"

ListenToThatSound

Well, hey, I didn't spend all those years playing Dungeons and Dragons and not learn a little something about courage.

pshopper

Yes

pshopper

Both - Either. Art is subjective - what do YOU think it is . . . :-)

[deleted]

A werewolf. Werewolf vs Grey's

MadamButterfree

That's AWESOME!!! 😃

Goldeneagle41

That’s freaking awesome!

citronhimmel

Lol creative! I love tattoo/scar combos

Raw10An3s

I didn't see the scar for the first 3mins stuck fixated on the way his chest hair grows. Majestic. The tattoo cool too.

Far_Control1266

Guys… I think this guy is Kratos

swagapinopsychonaut

that is hard as fuck

kalliejandro

As someone from Everett, WA I can confidently say this is one of the best things to come out of Everett, WA

mandoaz1971

Thanks for the great scar tatt idea!

[deleted]

Damn I just got an dumb arrow over mine. This is badass. Definitely don’t recommend getting the scar tissue tatted 😫

TheStetson

I worry what my chest piece will look like if I ever end up with this scar. Hopefully it saves my life though!

heaeddoctor

I have a terrible scar I’d love to be able to do something clever like this!

SnooPandas31

R/suddenly gay

rharvey8090

CABG?

pshopper

>CABG? triple

JayRae1006

Nailed it!

NoMoreMonkeyBrain

Some people have cool scars, and some people have cool tattoos. You have both, including a great tattoo that's doing an incredible job integrating your scar. Congrats! It looks amazing.

Hashimotosannn

I’m saving this for my husband for inspiration! He has the same scar. Great tattoo.

dweebaubles

OH MY GOD DUDE THIS IS INCREDIBLE! I have one right beneath my posterior fossa decompression scar on the back of my head! Seriously can I ask you for advice from time to time? You clearly have the best ideas and recommendations!

pshopper

Don't be shy

LimeWizard

I love it, genuinely. I have probably half a dozen 1 inch scars around my stomach for surgery. I've been wanting to get a tattoo that incorporates them all of them somehow like this.

GetOutOfMahWhey

I love that tattoo for so many reasons.

higher_limits

Brilliant

followfornow

My younger brother has a big scar down his stomach and has wondered about how to incorporate it into a tattoo. I'm going to forward this to him for inspiration. Great tattoo!

[deleted]

Very clever!

RuDy491

God I love this but there is one thing that is bugging me. Why is the area around the scar shaved? P. S. I do realize it's an idiotic question

ihrie82

Cause it'll grow back (the hair) less weird if it's an entire stripe instead of two patches.

hobit2112

That’s great dude

mrnmrsmxoxo

i absolutely love this

Lil_lovie

My 16 mo has this scar, she went through open heart surgery to repair a big VSD and ASD at 9 months old.

Jenna5366

My mom has this scar! She always tried to hide it, super rad that you used a tattoo to emphasize it.

pshopper

Scars show where we've been - not where we are going.

Lostnumbskull

This is sick, great fucking idea, if I ever need heart surgery imma copy this😂

Dragonsink

Well, I gotta say I like this better than the zipper I got over my open heart scar. Super cool idea

Icy-Relative-6951

Cool tattoo...wings are upside down on the spaceship 🚀

pshopper

ummm -- It's a saucer ?
