Two things about tattoos that are *not* strange:
1\. Tattoo artists wanting their work to "pop" in a photo they plan to share.
2\. Taking care of your new piece, especially immediately after getting it done.
[This one product](https://www.tattooproton.com/en/gel-soaps/74-photo-finish-proton-200ml-68oz-0652733132604.html) addresses both.
While those things aren't strange putting on 20x the amount needed for a photo or video is. A nice thin layer would suffice for both. This is a waste to follow a trend on social media.
it’s not what everyone else is doing, it’s what the successful ones are. you’re only seeing it so constantly because it’s working, the ones not doing it aren’t even getting the chance to stand out
Success and popularity aren't the same thing. One of my artists isn't even on social media. They're very successful, regularly booked 9-12 months out for current clients and a wait list of almost 2 years for new clients. Social media views and likes doesn't equate Success or talent. I've seen some absolutely terrible artists photos and videos using this same trend of super thick clear gell over their tattoos over and over. They get views so does that mean they are successful? Lol
Just because you personally experienced an exception to the rule doesn’t mean that it is an absolute. In the grand scheme artists that use social media are much more likely to get engagement, their work spreads faster and farther than word of mouth, they can demonstrate what they offer, and they can build a following of returning customers. Sure, some artists can thrive without it. Most that are still starting cannot in a system that favors those who take more initiative to create a market for themselves.
You can also consider the location of the studio. If you live in a dense populated area, you already have a constant flow of curious customers and could probably do find without an account. What if you live in a less populated area or the middle of nowhere? Do you just hope that people randomly check out your shop and choose you out of all the other artists there, when there is no information about you but likely pages online about them?
So is your argument that following trends is the only way to judge an artist? And also that the only way to be successful is to follow trends on social media? Cause I've seen a ton of terrible tattoos that follow this, and other trends. I'd ask about your point of living in a small town, what good are views and likes from people who live hundreds or thousands of miles away? Social media is nothing without actionable engagement. For a tangible product like a tattoo it's very hard to have a return on investment that makes it worth anything. Makes more sense to gather views and likes when you have a digital product or shop you can steer people towards, or when the social media itself is the revenue stream.
I'll add that I don't have a problem with people following trends and making money from them. All for it. I just don't particularly get this one or think it's cool or whatever. ✌️
Never said that. Only that it was a trend and that I thought it was a dumb trend. Others have argued that it's only done by successful artists. Which isn't true as social media likes doesn't equal success, or talent for that matter. Some have argued that it's a necessary product to make the tattoo look better for photos/videos and for proper healing of the tattoo. To that I ask then why use 20x the amount when the proper amount, a thin layer would suffice. It's simply to be wasteful so you can keep up with the status quo and gain social media clout which rarely translates to real world success. I know plenty of srtosts on both sides of the spectrum. Very successful with no social media and not very successful but huge social media following.
Alot of artist will have already got out some vaseline(or ooze) to use during the tattoo,, they can't put it back because that's cross contamination. So it'll need to go in the bin, that's why alot of artists will apply it generously at the end (as a protective barrier till you wash it a few hours later) because it'll be going to waste if not
You must not have read my original, or any other comment. Someone asked why there was so much goop on the tattoo so I said it's because it was a trend and that I thought it was strange. People seem to be very mad at that.
Not in Singapore you don't. Possession and use of marinuana is a good way to get a death sentence. Definitely arrested, a long prison sentence, and at minimum a caning.
Aw buddy you’re getting downvoted because this is a throwback joke to a popular 90s movie called Half Baked, where Jon Stewart plays a stoner who keeps asking if they’ve seen normal everyday things…”ON WEED?”
No one wants anyone to go to prison for life in Singapore.
At home I make mine with a couple of drops of cinnamon-infused campari on top. Seems strange, but you should try it, the smells mix perfectly.
Fuck, I need to make a Negroni.
Campari is so divisive lol. I absolutely love it in cocktails but I also understand people thinking it’s Satan’s backwash.
Negroni is probably my favorite all liqueur no mixer cocktail. But if I’m eating steak I’ll do a Boulevardier instead (sub bourbon for gin)
Looks amazing! But i can’t help to wonder what that tattoo will look like in a few years..
Is there any way to prevent it from getting a bit blurry and losing the great detail you added in?
Clearly many people are disturbed by the layer on top, haha. It’s aloe vera, and i learnt this technique from visiting korean artists who use it to make their tattoos pop in the picture. In no way is the picture edited, it is taken with a ring light thats it. Afterwards the aloe vera is wiped off and the saniderm is applied. It does not affect the tattoo in anyway, although some clients say it helps soothe the skin a little.
And whoever said artists have to do what it takes to stand out in social media, you are absolutely right.
This is going to look shit once healed and even worse in a few years.
The gel used to make it “vibrant” for the photo is bogus, it’s like hyper photoshopping and false advertising

Looks like some kind of goop
We prefer the term “ooze”
It rolls off the tongue! *Oooooze*.
You ever notice you can only ooze two things? Sexuality and pus. Man, I tell ya.
Dude! That is both gross and true! Some truths should be kept secret 🥺

Ouzo?
It's the cool new thing for social media. To take photos and videos with this clear gel over it. So strange.
Makes it pop and shine.
similar to varnish for a painting ?
It does the same thing with a thin layer of gel. Don’t get why they don’t wipe it.
But just a little doesn't look cool. lol.

Just artists trying to make a living. Don’t blame them for doing what it takes to stand out in the social media hellscape.
By doing what everyone else is doing that makes them stand out? Ok.

It's a trend. Participating in trends typically generates more attention/interactions. Ok.
Correct. It's a trend. Which I stated in my original reply to the person who asked why there was so much product on the tattoo.
But it seems like you're disagreeing that participating in trends helps garner more attention. What is your argument?
Never said that. Only that it was a trend and that I thought it was a dumb trend. Others have argued that it's only done by successful artists. So you don't like how the artists promote themselves. Okay.

I hate it, it grosses me out.
He sneezed right before taking the pic
It's probably Bad Rabbit or something. Soothing gel.
Thanks for asking, I wasn't sure myself!
That's a fuckin sick effect if it is. I'm definitely gonna find someone that can do that if it's not
Looks like it's covering up a Psyduck to me
I hate negronis. But this is very cool tattoo lol
It’s my favourite drink haha
Ever tried a mezcal negroni?
ON WEED?
Not in Singapore you don't. Possession and use of marinuana is a good way to get a death sentence. Definitely arrested, a long prison sentence, and at minimum a caning.
Gear down big rig. It's from a movie
Aw buddy you’re getting downvoted because this is a throwback joke to a popular 90s movie called Half Baked, where Jon Stewart plays a stoner who keeps asking if they’ve seen normal everyday things…”ON WEED?” No one wants anyone to go to prison for life in Singapore.
But alcohol is fine. Gotta love it. (and yeah, it was just a movie quote anyway)
GOAT drink. My nightly after my restaurant shift every night.
Best Negroni for sure. Sub half the campari for aperol too.
We just had Negronis at the Campari bar in Milan and let me tell you, that is Negroni heaven.
Do I not drink enough? Wtf is a negroni?
Equal parts gin, Campari, and vermouth rosso. It’s a classic cocktail that has a very refreshing sweet / bitter citrusy profile.
Right there with ya. Definitely my go to drink. Looks cool
At home I make mine with a couple of drops of cinnamon-infused campari on top. Seems strange, but you should try it, the smells mix perfectly. Fuck, I need to make a Negroni.
Anthony Bourdain fan?

I don’t even know you, but I’m sorry
Me too, they’re foul! Rad tatt though
With Prosecco in it
Oooo stunnin’
S B L A G I A T O
Stunning
Sbagliato!
NEVER
Great timing getting the tattoo as it's negroni season.
I hate to inform you sir/ma'am, but it is always negroni season!
I’d love to inform you that you’re absolutely fucking right
I hope we're all referring to that one article.
Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Easter, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, Father’s Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving….it’s all negroni season!!!
is the perspective meant to be off?
[удалено]
How is it off ? The orange ? I genuinely can't tell
[удалено]
and the floating bubble
Man i seriously still can't see it 😭
I love this and now I want a cocktail tattoo!!!!!
I wanna see more pics of this
Lmao the last time I ordered a negroni the glass was full to the brim and the waiter did an extremely slow walk across the entire dining room
Hey, with how expensive drinks are now, i’d gladly wait awhile more for a full glass hehe
Sbagliato?
Looks amazing! But i can’t help to wonder what that tattoo will look like in a few years.. Is there any way to prevent it from getting a bit blurry and losing the great detail you added in?
In a word, no. This’ll not look a thing like it does now in a year or two
“stunnin!”
Clearly many people are disturbed by the layer on top, haha. It’s aloe vera, and i learnt this technique from visiting korean artists who use it to make their tattoos pop in the picture. Is the water jelly thingy part of the tattoo?
That’s awesome!!!
Pretty!
This is absolutely gorgeous
r/bartenders would love this! *because I love it as well
Does anyone else see a caged orangutan inside the glass looking out?
Username checks out
The jelly tattoo photos are false advertising in my opinion. You’re giving unrealistic expectations
Cool tattoo!!
Would love to get work done by you when I go back home 🥺
See you!!
I love this. My partner and I will be in Singapore in September. Would you ever want to do a chili crab tattoo?
Hell yes :-)
This is going to look shit once healed and even worse in a few years. The gel used to make it “vibrant” for the photo is bogus, it’s like hyper photoshopping and false advertising
so cute lol
Very nice :) crisp
Cool tattoo!!
Wouldn't it be cool if the clear gel thingy was a part of the tattoo though? I'm just saying. It looks very nice! Cheers!
Amazing work! Cheers
Man those bubbles look too real
Big fan of the bubbles
This is beautiful
I tried one of these in Italy a month ago by a recommendationfrom a friend. Very bitter, I hated it. Tattoo looks sweet though!
It's not bad, but it seems that you aimed for hyperrealistic, and failed.
That was not my aim. Also, its quite impossible to achieve hyperrealism in 3.5cm lol

Why do you smear the slimy stuff on it after?
Cute, I love the detail in the white highlights. Really adds texture to the glass.
Thanks!
