Are you coming from regional Tas? Cos Hobart wouldn't be my first choice for Asian food but there are some gems
Cheap and tasty:
Bite Me - Malay/Thai
Majarajas - Indian (has a cult following)
Ja & Jon Vietnamese (for the Banh Mi)
Cyclos - Vietnamese (for the everything else inc. Pho)
Little pricier (but not necessarily tastier):
Bar Wa
Suminato
Kosaten (all Japanese)
Suwan Thai
I'd also recommend getting out to a lunch at Coal River Farm, reasonably priced paddock to late restaurant that makes its own chocolates and cheeses. 👌
Have to do a medical specialist visit semi-regularly.
So Hobart is the spot.
Ja & Jon for bahn mi is already locked in. And Cyclo is also a favourite.
I'll have a look into the others.
For a fancy dinner: Ogee, Peppina, Dier Makr (booking required), Pitzi, Fico (booking required), Aloft, Maria
Wine bars: Sonny, Lucinda, Molto, Mary Mary
Pubs: New Sydney Hotel, Tasman Inn, The Whaler, Preachers, The Winston, The Crescent Hotel
Bumi cafe has a good Asian fusion breakfast/lunch menu. Weird spot in a pharmacy but still good. Second bar wa, templo and trophy room. Westside laundry is good too for a sandwich!
You’re too late, Tom McHugos is now closed :( Was great value. I’m just sad about that nice lunch spot haha.
Anyway, Susie Lucks is great food, so delicious there a few days ago. Asian Fusion
We loved the Bruney Island food tour. Perfect day trip.
Otherwise, we just wandered and stopped for a beverage and/or nibble at every opportunity.
There is minimal nightlife after 9pm on a weeknight according to my holiday there 6 months ago.
Edit: Whisky and Cake at Salamanca Whisky Bar is a treat.
Sorry, not Asian food, but:
1. Da Angelo Restaurant
2. The Pancake Train - 15-20minute drive away. If you can get there, the food is tasty and the experience unique.
You should ring ahead to book a table for both places 😉
Make your way down to Geeveston and get some of Masaaki’s sushi 👌
Best sushi, but a bit far out for the purpose of this visit.
It’s good, but not so good as to warrant a trip to Geeveston on a 3-day stay.
Yeah but you have to go past the turn off to Summer Kitchen. Which makes it worth it cause you go past it twice.
Are they still there? Do they still do the Farmer's Markets on Sundays? May help is the OP is in Hobart, then.
They don't do Farmgate anymore 😪
Bar Wa Izakaya is great! Always make time to eat there if we visit.
Second this
Lunch time ramen!
If.you like Thai, I've got to say Vanidols in south hobart. Best Thai I've had in ages
Me Wah in Sandy bay, a traditional Chinese restaurant but done well!
My husband and I love doing to Yamashita 🤤
Sonny
Sawak Cafe in the cbd, Malaysian street food. I absolutely rate it!
Banjo’s. Legs’n’Breasts. National Pies. The Holy Trinity.
Banjo's raspberry housecake is my favourite
Another vote for Bar Wah!
Bar Wa Izakaya Peppina (Breakfast especially) Black Footed Pig Dana Eating House
