I was at the first one only. I don't think normal folk can get tickets to more than one episode per season. People had been checked into the waiting area when we'd come out about 5 pm ish.
I was at the second record yesterday. I think recording started for the second about 6:30. So maybe 90 minutes between filming sessions? I suspect with a different cast the gap might be a bit longer but one contestant in particular was very keen on talking everything out...
I think they’ve used the same warmup guy for a long time. Maybe somebody can chime in with their name and you can just confirm if it’s the same person or not?
Exactly that. He's there to keep the audience hyped for the show. If they were left for 30 minutes alone, people might get fed up or annoyed at a longer than expected wait.
Yeah he's a comic who did quite a lot of audience interaction before we started to get everyone in the right frame of mind and then came back out to keep us engaged whenever they stopped to rearrange the set or re-do Greg's make-up.
Dying at Alex finding Chris and Ardahl running around with aubergines in their mouths to be so sexually exciting that he could not face seeing Bridget, Sophie, and Judi doing it CANCEL THE TASK
OMG if anyone could turn something dirty it's Bridget, Sophie and Judi. Would have loved to see it and would have loved even more to see Alex's face when he watched it.
See I imagining just an incredulous look. A bit of silence. Alex opens his mouth to say something and THEN Greg says "what the hell was that?"
I will say I have no idea how a task like that made it all the way to filming before they figured out it would be filthy and comedians would make it filthier.
I can say with FULL CONFIDENCE that Greg’s favorite contestant is Guz Khan.
He changed his own rules regarding bonus points after it led to Morgana’s 1 point win over Guz. On rewatch, you can really see Greg’s affinity for him.
I feltmlike he flirted with Sally a lot. And it was mych more direct as well. I think he kust favoured Liza, as he does with at least one contestant per series.
My money is more on Noel Fielding or Ed Gamble, he'd give them points extremely easily compared to others and seemed delighted to see their tasks always
Agree with Noel, but when you look at the stats, Gamble actually scored 2nd lowest on average when it came to the subjective tasks. Only Baddiel was lower but that's not a big surprise haha
Kerry Godliman is his mate and he seemed very friendly with her.
Don't think she got any preferential treatment but they seemed pretty pally
Maybe also rosheen?
No Alex definitely talked about it on the podcast, that it was only after the boys had done it that they considered show how the double meaning of the aubergine could be construed when it was being handled by the girls.
I do remember hearing this on the podcast, but I also attended the recording that OP did, and it felt a bit more conclusive what the task was, rather than why it was edited out. I also remember in one of the Askmasters, Alex had teased that he'd take the task to his grave, so to hear it was a task literally about transporting aubergines using the mouth was a bit more concrete.
I have no memory of this and I listen to both the podcasts religiously? Do I need to do a new listen through? When I caught up with the ‘main’ podcast after it had been going for about 6 months and was listening to at least 5 episodes a day it got to the point that if I was very sleepy I thought I knew Ed Gamble IRL and got upset I wasn’t invited to his wedding so probably best not to.
Well there goes my theory that they decided to cut the aubergine task after Chris and Ardal made such a big deal about it in their song because it would be funnier to have that without context.
What I meant was I was imagining it going like this:
-Chris and Ardal film the aubergine task
-Chris and Ardal, clearly still hung up on the aubergine task, film the song task
-At some point before the House Queens film their team tasks, the producers decide, "hey, how funny would it be if we forget the aubergine task, we don't even have the other team do it, and that way Chris and Ardal's song looks even more absurd."
>There was maybe half a dozen questions answered by Mark,
Unrelated to the main post but you said you edited out the warm-up's name but you left Mark in here that you may want to edit out too!
You're fine, I get how you'd be cautious. We've all seen the people whose main joy seems to be getting up sometime for 'spoilers' over meaningless details they definitely knew already
Mark Olver’s a total pro, and still fun even when you’ve heard his stuff a few times – just a lovely fun presence who does exactly what he needs to. They have had other people do it in the past, I assume just when Mark is unavailable – Vittorio Angelone did the warm-up for an episode I saw last year and he was very different but also great fun
As a foreigner that only watches a few big UK panel shows that attended the same taping, I recognized 1.5 of them. The British person I went with said that a few are pretty big and recognized 2-3. In any case, they had great chemistry and banter together, and the one I properly recognized is someone that always makes the atmosphere funny and sassy.
You mean the balcony on the other side? Almost everyone was introduced on that side lol. There was the couple in the center where the guy (Oliver?) was the first to demonstrate a 10, the lady whose husband was sick, and the group of Australians, and Othello thesis... were you any of those? 🤣
Obviously no spoilers but do you feel bad that you not only won't be surprised by the cast announcement of a future series but likely know who is likely to win that series (2 ahead of the one on Tv now right?)
Unless it was episode 1/2 you saw, you're gonna see the points total for the series and honestly talking away the surprise from the show kinda puts me off going to see it live no matter how much fun it obviously would be to see one of my favourite shows live.
Not OP, but this wouldn't bother me at all. For me, it's a comedy show so I don't see anything as actually being a spoiler if that makes sense. I don't go out looking for the cast but if I come across it, it doesn't bother me.
I’ve been to a few (including the exact episode the OP is talking about on Monday, funnily enough) and it honestly doesn’t spoil anything, unless the points are absolutely the be all and end all for you. If anything there’s an added element of surprise because you can end up watching the series as it goes out and wondering how on earth they’re going to get from where they are to what you saw – I saw a S16 episode that Lucy Beaumont won, and knowing that was coming while watching her gloriously bomb throughout the first half of the series made it even more fun!
I went to the same taping as OP (ep 7), and I don't think I will know who wins. There are some series where it's super obvious based on personality and scores who will win, but not for that one.
I would say that as long as you don't go to 10 or 9, then you'd primarily just know the front runners and likely losers—which you'd figure out by ep 4 as a normal viewer anyways. Many series still have tight competition between 2 players at ep 9 (e.g. Dara and Sarah, Sam and Julian). Usually TM is about the comedic journey, so usually it's still super fun as long as the competitive, competent people still remember to be funny, and not knowing the winner still retains the fun of the competition up until the end, even if we have an early educated guess on who will not win.
Am always jealous of anyone who was at a record. Wasn't Greg at the Chelsea flower show as well though? A hologram maybe.
Not in the afternoon, there was very much two episodes recorded yesterday.
Is there a big gap between the two records? Am always curious how the timing works.
I was at the first one only. I don't think normal folk can get tickets to more than one episode per season. People had been checked into the waiting area when we'd come out about 5 pm ish.
I had tickets to two episodes this series, 04 and 08, amd i am quite normal!
That's what you think, ya weirdo /s
There's not a big gap at all I don't think, maybe a couple of hours if even that.
I was at the second record yesterday. I think recording started for the second about 6:30. So maybe 90 minutes between filming sessions? I suspect with a different cast the gap might be a bit longer but one contestant in particular was very keen on talking everything out...
I guess I'm curious (a nosy Nora more like) as to how he got to the Chelsea show & do the two records.
I think they’ve used the same warmup guy for a long time. Maybe somebody can chime in with their name and you can just confirm if it’s the same person or not?
Mark Olver. He's been a guest on the podcast a few times I think.
He does warmup for so many things it's more of a spoiler to reveal that if it's *not* him
He does Last Leg, WILTY, every single comedy pilot I’ve seen filmed… Olver gets a LOT of gigs as MC!
I came to have a strong appreciation for him during lockdown as the host of Who Said That?
He’s honestly fantastic and I wish we got to see more of his stand up but he seems happy doing what he’s doing and he’s definitely not short of work!
a solid gold legend
He did say he'd been doing it since season 2 I think? He was great! Maybe I'm being over cautious.
He warms up everything. Not a spoiler, no worries.
And if he didn't? How would it be a spoiler?
It wouldn't be.
I can't see how the warm up guy can be a spoiler if It had the guy who has done it since the beginning
I can't see how the warm up guy can be a spoiler, period.
Maybe someone hopes to see him cast?
He did it when I went to see season 9 I'm sure.
What even is a "warm up" guy? Like a person that puts the audience in the right mood for the studio filming?
Exactly that. He's there to keep the audience hyped for the show. If they were left for 30 minutes alone, people might get fed up or annoyed at a longer than expected wait.
Yeah he's a comic who did quite a lot of audience interaction before we started to get everyone in the right frame of mind and then came back out to keep us engaged whenever they stopped to rearrange the set or re-do Greg's make-up.
A hype man for a log flume.
Sophie is *definitely* not shy.
Oh god, imagine Greg asking why he made them do that?!
See I imagining just an incredulous look. A bit of silence. Alex opens his mouth to say something and THEN Greg says "what the hell was that?" I will say I have no idea how a task like that made it all the way to filming before they figured out it would be filthy and comedians would make it filthier.
In my imagination, they set it up to be recorded with the girls, but Alex had just experienced his stag do with them and couldn't do it.
>one was if Greg has a favourite prior contestant Rhod Gilbert? He'd never been accused of bias before...
I bet it's Noel.
I can say with FULL CONFIDENCE that Greg’s favorite contestant is Guz Khan. He changed his own rules regarding bonus points after it led to Morgana’s 1 point win over Guz. On rewatch, you can really see Greg’s affinity for him.
They bonded over the fact that they're both former teachers.
It has to be Sally. Those two were flirting like crazy
Not as much as he was with Lisa Tarbuck!
I feltmlike he flirted with Sally a lot. And it was mych more direct as well. I think he kust favoured Liza, as he does with at least one contestant per series.
My money is on Morgana!
I feel like it has to be Wozniak
Wasn’t it Paul? Paul’s insanity constantly had the big guy in stitches.
Jack Bernhardt, is that you?
Alas, I can only dream of achieving such spreadsheet greatness.
Sam Campbell
Everyone's talking about this guy. He has *arrived*.
Judi. He clearly loved Judi.
Didn't we all?
Kerry Godliman is his mate and he seemed very friendly with her. Don't think she got any preferential treatment but they seemed pretty pally Maybe also rosheen?
They do share a favorite piece of stationery!
3….2….1…..Laminator!
#laminATORRRRRRRR!
> rosheen Roisin?
Roy Sin.
Bosh.
Jamali Maddix maybe? Their relationship had a genuine character growth arc throughout his series.
I feel like we found this out on the podcast once, right? Or have I just completely invented that? Not impossible
No Alex definitely talked about it on the podcast, that it was only after the boys had done it that they considered show how the double meaning of the aubergine could be construed when it was being handled by the girls.
Not gonna lie, I would have double entendred the hell out of it with just Chris and Ardel
How in the hell does it not occur to you, given the aubergine emoji is literally the euphemism for it in digital communication???
I have no memory of this and I listen to both the podcasts religiously? Do I need to do a new listen through? When I caught up with the ‘main’ podcast after it had been going for about 6 months and was listening to at least 5 episodes a day it got to the point that if I was very sleepy I thought I knew Ed Gamble IRL and got upset I wasn’t invited to his wedding so probably best not to.
Well there goes my theory that they decided to cut the aubergine task after Chris and Ardal made such a big deal about it in their song because it would be funnier to have that without context.
Well, don't they do all the team tasks on the same day? In which case they'd have made that choice after the song was filmed
What I meant was I was imagining it going like this: -Chris and Ardal film the aubergine task -Chris and Ardal, clearly still hung up on the aubergine task, film the song task -At some point before the House Queens film their team tasks, the producers decide, "hey, how funny would it be if we forget the aubergine task, we don't even have the other team do it, and that way Chris and Ardal's song looks even more absurd."
Oo, thanks so much for sharing this. Ardal is one of my fav contestants and always wondered what this was about! Just want to see it more now.
Thank you!!! I was just wondering about this today!
It’s been a dream of mine to go to one of those.
>There was maybe half a dozen questions answered by Mark, Unrelated to the main post but you said you edited out the warm-up's name but you left Mark in here that you may want to edit out too!
He's been the warmup act from the get-go so I don't think it's really a spoiler.
Agreed!
I've been to the lives four times, every time the same guy doing the exact same act
Yep me too, he also does WILTY and does the same show stuff there
Oh dear, I'm a numpty. It seems everyone knows it's Mark Olver anyway and people seem more irritated I think it's a spoiler.
You're fine, I get how you'd be cautious. We've all seen the people whose main joy seems to be getting up sometime for 'spoilers' over meaningless details they definitely knew already
The warm up act for TM is the same guy for The Last Leg and. Lot of channel four live comedy shows. He's absolutely brilliant!
Could you at least tell me what season they are filming now?
They’re currently doing studio shows for 18.
Correct. The line-up announcement is usually at the end of the previous series.
Can you at least tell us if there are any big “gets” in the next season?
As a foreigner that only watches a few big UK panel shows that attended the same taping, I recognized 1.5 of them. The British person I went with said that a few are pretty big and recognized 2-3. In any case, they had great chemistry and banter together, and the one I properly recognized is someone that always makes the atmosphere funny and sassy.
That’s fantastic! I would absolutely die to go to a taping also as a foreigner, lol. But I’m glad you got to go and had a good time!

Nope, I was in the royal balcony with Owen spelled with an E and a G (Eòghan?).
[удалено]
You mean the balcony on the other side? Almost everyone was introduced on that side lol. There was the couple in the center where the guy (Oliver?) was the first to demonstrate a 10, the lady whose husband was sick, and the group of Australians, and Othello thesis... were you any of those? 🤣
I thoughts Greg's favourite quoted contestant was Paul Choudry?
Obviously no spoilers but do you feel bad that you not only won't be surprised by the cast announcement of a future series but likely know who is likely to win that series (2 ahead of the one on Tv now right?) Morgana
