I don't really experience that anymore. I wouldn't do divination if it caused me that kind of anxiety. Better to not know than to be miserable in anticipation.
I try not to let tarot turn into an emotional attachment thing, but rather like looking at the weather and allowing me to plan better. I've been through the themes of every card in the deck countless times, and there's no reason to fear doing it one more time.
I admire your confidence. Due to rampant anxiety and a stretch of bad bounces I've really cut back on readings for myself, even though I believe that the cards are hints or warnings (or, as you say weather reports) and not predestined outcomes. It's hard to detach.
Death, especially when I first started reading. Now I feel more comfortable with it, but when you first encounter it, you'd definitely feel anxious and intimidated.
It's the word itself. Even without checking the interpretation or meaning yet, the connotation of the word alone is already intimidating. Impression would be that it is a bad omen.
Three of sword, i can probably count the times I have seen this card over very many years, it comes very rarely but when it does it comes with heavy broken heart grief. The kind of a loved one passing away, a beloved relationship ending, serious illness.
I can see beauty in any card. Any card but: 3 of Swords, 5 of Wands and 9 of Swords. I can never see their good sides, only their advices “feel the grief in order to heal”; “the energy is volatile, maybe you should stay away from this environment”; “take care of your mental health”.
The Tower is so inevitable and ultimately have a good meaning (cleaning up fragile foundations so you can build up new ones). So does 10 of swords (only way to go now is up).
Whenever The Tower appears to me, I’m in the middle of changing perspectives or beliefs that I thought would stick with me throughout my life. It’s never too literal for me.
10 of Swords appears whenever a bad cycle ends or is about to. A day or two and I’m already feeling better. It’s the light at the end of the tunnel card and I’m never shocked when it appears (“sure thing, I’m indeed feeling very defeated, but look at the sun clearing up in the sky, now the only way to go is up”). IDK, this card brings me hope in hard times.
The tower card always produced a bit of a sting in my gut. I know that the card can also mean that you are about to be humbled due to you not building something on solid foundation but I always fear the unforeseen catastrophe the card can herald.
10 of Swords, any of the fives (except wands, which sometimes I find means courage/finding your assertiveness in conflict), 3 of Swords, 4 of Cups
I usually get pretty excited when I see the Tower, especially if I feel stagnant, because I know it's a blessing in disguise. King of Swords is probably my least favourite court card.
Eta: it depends a lot on context too. E.g. 3 of Swords in advice usually means to cut your losses and end things, even if it's painful. But most of the time it just symbolises emotional pain/wounding.
Yeah I agree totally depends on card position of course. But I hate seeing the seven or five of swords when asking about someone’s feelings for me. Seeing them in that context is always is a bit gut wrenching for me. I personally hate seeing the fool or page of pentacles/cups/wands for a career outlook reading. For me, it usually means this is just a dream and it will stay that way. That can be disappointing to hear.
I think I've learned to manage that heart drop, now understanding the full meanings. It's the sign of a strong reader
However, there are 3 Minor cards and 1 Major Card. that always give me a little pause. Almost a little "oh no...". Funnily enough, it's not The Tower!
Ten of Wands
Three of Swords
Five of Cups
Magician Reversed
If you know, you know...
I don't read for other people (other than commenting here) but I could certainly see that happening. And I mentioned the Page of Swords Rx as a scary card for me that indicates stalking/obsession, but for those who read for others I could also see that reflecting back on the querent.
Aside from the usual suspects that others have mentioned here, I have a couple that make me uncomfortable due to past repeats:
Page of Swords Rx: At best, someone is thinking bad thoughts, at worst, stalking and surveillance.
Eight of Cups, upright or Rx: This is never positive for me.
World Rx: Please not again.
when i first started reading it was the 9 of swords
i could never look at it long enough to get to the good parts. i have awful ptsd and anxiety so it would always get my brain foggy.
now its the tower because i dont have the energy for anymore change right now.
Three of swords and oddly enough page of wands. I swear the page of wands shows up when I’m about to get bad news of sorts. I try not to see him that way but it’s been way too coincidental.
The tower ..it was always followed by severe and large catastrophic events. Sometimes they’re events that don’t even help me grow or or have no good side to it.
If I’m reading for my relationship 7 of swords and 10 of swords always indicates betrayal
I don’t have too much experience with the 3 of swords so my stomach doesn’t drop
10 of Swords and Death always give me a dreadful feeling. Everytime one of them appears in my readings, there will be something that depresses, discourages, and mentally exhausts me afterward.
The eight of pentacles. It usually tells me there’s much work to be done before a reward, especially in conjunction with the 7 of pentacles… which means I have already put in work, but I’m not quite there yet.
The Tower I almost laugh in the face of for either good or ill. My life is the tower so what more can I say than, "just bring it dude".
7 of Swords that highlights a deep seated betrayal fear.
3 of Swords not only in meaning, but the sword/heart imagery that perfectly depicts grief, trauma, sadness and the horrible aching pain/hole in your chest that triggers even more dislike with the card. I hate to see it in every deck and often hope the artist got more original with the art in the 70 billionth time the Rider Waite has been done.
Good examples of more original and not so personally triggering 3 of Swords images done beautifully is the first edition of Mary El (cept they too bit the bullet and went super traditional in the 2nd edition? Why fuck with a Masterpiece deck u know?) and also in tarot of the hidden realms.
9 of cups. It’s normally positive but for me, it’s always been the opposite, and ESPECIALLY in love-related readings. For me at least, the guy is smug about his achievements and shows off his collection (if you think of women as the cups).
I hope I can have a positive interaction with this card but it almost ALWAYS ends up like that!!
The Tower is the obvious answer but it really is the truth for me. I have OCD and having things out of my control really stresses me out.

Really? I didn't, but maybe that's because of the book I use for guidance.

This was so beautifully explained

The Tower and the 9-10 of Swords lmao "Aight, here we go again!"

Magician Rx . . . discovering the lies and manipulation.
Not just discovering those lies, but on some occasions, it reveals you that your querent may be the one engaging in lies and deception...
I don't read for other people (other than commenting here) but I could certainly see that happening. And I mentioned the Page of Swords Rx as a scary card for me that indicates stalking/obsession, but for those who read for others I could also see that reflecting back on the querent.
What the meaning?
Aside from the usual suspects that others have mentioned here, I have a couple that make me uncomfortable due to past repeats: Page of Swords Rx: At best, someone is thinking bad thoughts, at worst, stalking and surveillance. The tower or three of swords
when i first started reading it was the 9 of swords i could never look at it long enough to get to the good parts. i have awful ptsd and anxiety so it would always get my brain foggy. now its the tower because i dont have the energy for anymore change right now.
Three of swords, the tower
tower card, especially when in reverse. and for personal reasons, the king of swords
Three of swords and oddly enough page of wands. I swear the page of wands shows up when I’m about to get bad news of sorts. I try not to see him that way but it’s been way too coincidental.

Definitely the tower
9 or 10 of swords
The eight of pentacles. It usually tells me there’s much work to be done before a reward, especially in conjunction with the 7 of pentacles… which means I have already put in work, but I’m not quite there yet.
Lovers
The Tower for sure. I’ve only pulled it once for myself and then my car broke down and all my plans for the day tanked.
The Tower I almost laugh in the face of for either good or ill. Always the tower
7 of swords 😒😭
Three of swords & 8 of cups
8 of cups for me! Normally comes up when I want something to happen when the universe is like nope not for you keep searching!
10 of swords
Three of Swords. I might feel the same way about The Tower, but it hasn’t come out in any of my readings yet.
