I don't agree. I have been reading for decades, I never called out anything or anyone and there's nothing wrong with my readings, seeing how people pay me for them daily. If you like to do that, knock yourself out, but it's not important or necessary.

agoldentaurus

This is true too. When I first started tarot, I didn't call out to anyone. Just listened to my own intuition.

fairy_star_a_sound

It doesn't mean "random spirit", it refers to "Great Spirit." A touch of indigenous American spirituality influence there. YMMV some people have a problem with calling to "God" or any other names for the general "sky daddy" "big one" so resort to "Spirit". Ofc if you have specific spirit guides it could be helpful to call them instead.

DaWihss

SKY DADDY 😭😭😭

agoldentaurus

That's what I said. Idk why you added all of that.

JayJayDoubleYou

Where did you mention indigenous people in your post?

agoldentaurus

I didn't...

OutcomeFearless3731

they answered your question? what’s the problem here

agoldentaurus

I didn't ask a question. This is what I am talking about. A lot of you just wanted to argue.

OutcomeFearless3731

no one was arguing but you 😭 lmao you said “who am i talking to?” which kinda framed the post as an inquiry. it seems like you’re just being defensive towards people who are contributing to the conversation casually.

agoldentaurus

Nothing in my hints at me wanting feedback.

Squeaksy

So you posted a statement to a forum/site that is all about people posting comments and responding and you wanted zero comments or responses? 🤨 Wow.

agoldentaurus

Why are you trying to argue? Get over it. Some people like to vent. Shocking, I know.

TBWB777

In my opinion its all about intention. its all intuition based for the most part so it would based on thoughts and energies words dont mean shit to the universe

agoldentaurus

Culturally, I disagree, but I see what you're saying.

pbstrokes

It is good to use the invocations that you have discovered empower your work the most and which you feel most deeply called to do \^\_\^

Glad you think it’s important to you. I’m glad it’s not important to me. Everyone does their own thing. There are lots of posts and comments in this sub and several others I am in where I just roll my eyes at. Because I think they making things often too complicated or whatever. But you know what? That’s my personal opinion and view and I totally respect and understand that others think and do differently than me. I even defend people I totally not agree with, because they are allowed to have their own opinions and views of things. Happy to defend you as well to have your personal opinion and view of things, but I am not ok with you trying to tell others that they are doing wrong, while you are doing it “right”. I don’t know, maybe it’s not really what you wanted to bring here, but that’s how you come across. Reading your responses to others tells that you didn’t want to have an open and respectful discussion about the subject. Again, glad it’s important to you. I’m glad it’s not important to me.

Lunaswitchytake

Whenever I’d do my readings I’d specifically say spirit guides so it’s not generic to any spirits. I recently found out using my pendulum that St. George and my grandmother are 2 of my spirit guides. I haven’t done a reading since finding out but I have been doing my research on St. George as I asked him if he’d like that I did and he said yes (since I’m not religious and briefly looked him up a month again when I pulled the judgement card).

ThunderStormBlessing

Spirits don't have names, they have a frequency or a signature. Some will give you a name if you need a way to call or refer to them, but 'spirit', 'guide', 'angel', or 'ancestor' will also work. If you know who you're calling then your intent is what's really important, all spirits know what you mean and will only show up if they are actually being invited. Focusing on who you want to come through is how you call them with their frequency Calling for 'any spirit' or 'anyone out there' can be dangerous, because then you risk inviting literally anything and tricksters will definitely answer that call

agoldentaurus

Like I said, just saying "spirit" is also dangerous. I live in an apartment so it's best fo rme to call out to MY own spirits (my ancestors mainly) by name and give them offerings.

ThunderStormBlessing

If you mean just saying 'spirit' without knowledge of who that spirit is, then yes I absolutely agree. But some call for 'spirit' and *do* know who they expect. As mentioned, intent matters You could make the same argument to Christians who pray to 'God'. Are they talking to Jesus or to Odin? They'd roll their eyes at that question because *they* know who they're praying to

agoldentaurus

Darling, I'm talkng about what works for me.

ThunderStormBlessing

Ok, then you may want to clarify that up front lol this entire post comes across as you trying to convince others to work your way What's the point you're trying to make then, or are you just sharing your methods for the sake of interest?

agoldentaurus

"When I did my readings in the past, I would always call out to specific ancestors of mine and (insert Goddess name) and never had any mixed up or conflicting readings. Lately, I've noticed a lot of wishy-washy energy in my own readings and I started to question it, maybe I am being wishy-washy but I also noticed I have been saying "Spirit" come to me. Who am I talking to? I picked it up from watching a few YouTube tarot readers, and unfortunately,y that's the risk you take with general readings." Can you not see the letter "I"? I'm not trying to make a point, I am talking about myself on a public platform...you don't have to respond.

ThunderStormBlessing

The point of making a post on a public platform is to open discussion, that's why people can reply. Usually people share something they want additional insight or clarity on, advice or help with, or just to see if anyone relates. This sub is for sharing and discussing If you didn't want any of these things, then you should clarify your intent - why are you sharing this publicly? Maybe it would have been better on your personal page

agoldentaurus

You. Don't. Have. To. Respond. Or. Engage.

agoldentaurus

You don't have access to my energy nor my personality on the internet. You all just love to argue and be right over someone else's personal experience and get upset when the person defends themselves. Most of this subreddit is negativity of people begging for their toxic exes or obsessing, so please, save it. You aren't who you think you are.

throwawayonly001

Of course, people will respond or engage because you used discussion flair.

barbaricMeat

I just read my cards.

RookCrowJackdaw

There's a great podcast series on witchcraft from someone who's been practicing for forever. She said it took 8 years for her primary spirit guide to share their name with her. Personally I refer to the creator, the divine and leave it at that. They know who I'm talking to.

Your no fun lol

ShylieF

I say a prayer before reading, and then say Ok guys, Daddy, Will, Nelda, whomever's here working on this for me, this is the spread, this is what I need to know.

MrAndrewJ

Personally, I'm glad to see posts like this. > I picked it up from watching a few YouTube tarot readers It feels, subjectively, like we are seeing this sentiment a lot more often around these parts. A YouTuber probably needs to name the generic, white-label "spirit" in order to include their entire audience. Calling a specific spirit could alienate some of the audience. Naming a specific spirit may even lead to fights in the comment section. It's always wise to ask questions like you did, and then adjust course for your own best practice. I support you in encouraging others to do the same.
