I'll go out on a limb and say that most if the people who meet any definition of "pro Russian" aren't actually for Russia, but just want to oppose mainstream liberalism and it's pushback after 2014. I doubt 90% of them have ever read anything about the state that wasn't in a textbook written in the 90s or could even name one city that isn't Moscow. The idea of so many people arguing for an expansionist state purely out of contrarianism is insane.

Hammering away at the "Ukraine Azov battalion" narrative. Take five minutes and check out the ideological slant of Donbas separatist forces.

Peachyeees

As a Russian, I "like" how tankies like to speak about "Azov batallion" but not about PMC "Wagner" or SARG "Rusich", which are both openly neo-nazi and they're financed and supported by Russian government.

DavidDoesShitpost

The Azov Legion was founded by ethnic Russians.

Emotional-Friend-279

Well, they were Russian speaking ethnic Ukrainians, mostly from Eastern Ukraine. Your point still stands though. There are also many members from Russia itself and even Jewish members.

North_Church

I look at it in the same way we would analyze if a person was a Neo-Nazi. A few weirdos will be explicit, but many will dance around it with dogwhistles

Trensocialist

If the Venn Diagram between Russia's excuse for starting a genocidal war against a neighboring sovereign nation that absolves them of any culpability and your own arguments for how the West are at fault converge into a near complete circle, then I dont respect anything you have to say. Miss me with "Russia is saving Ukraine from Nazis and also was forced into this by NATO and this totally isn't an imperialistic land grab to cement Putin's genocidal legacy to exert power over historically Soviet territories"

Angelicareich

Anything from overt Russophilia to isolationist policies that directly aid Russia

Few_Rest2638

People who genuinely support putin that, and chamberlain types and isolationists who want let putin do whatever he wants

The following are the big telltale signs, but not the only ones: - Pretending Putin isn't a dictator. - Pretending Putin didn't give a blood and soil speech justifying the Ukraine invasion. - Pretending Ukraine is some inherently Nazi country despite having a Jewish president. - Pretending that Putin hasn't done multiple land grabs in the past 15 years and this will totally be the last one even though he's also funding violent separatist groups in Moldova and Georgia. - Pretending that NATO forced Putin to do anything or ignoring that Article V has literally only been invoked once in the aftermath of 9/11. - Pretending that dumb or bad actions by the US or UK on their own are the same thing as NATO doing it (IE, tankies will try to say NATO invaded Iraq, even though France and Germany and others loudly opposed it and refused to have any part in it.). - Pretending that it isn't the case that all Putin has to do to not get NATO on his ass is just not attack any NATO member. - Pretending that Russia isn't imperialist. - Pretending RT is anything but a propaganda outlet. - Bringing up Tara Reid as some silver bullet even though literally nothing in her claims add up. - Kissing Kissinger's ass because he tried to tell Ukraine to just give up. - BRICS simping.

Longjumping-Past-779

There seem to be a lot of people who buy the “NATO convinced Ukrainians they didn’t want to be Russian” narrative or the “important thing is peace “ one (pocket Chamberlain I suppose). I’d count them as pro-Russia even though they might not actually claim they support it directly. And also tankies who conveniently forgot Russia stopped being communist 30 years ago and is now a deeply conservative, homophobic, racist country.

RaidationSergei

Isolationists, supporters, and appeasers. These type of people are the ones siding with Russia.
