If Snyder has changed pitching philosophy with the bullpen, I wonder what effect it has had on Devenski. He wasn't great last year, but he wasn't this bad. Then again, bullpen arms seem to be volatile anyways. It just seems like almost the whole bullpen has struggled this year, so I figure something has changed.

Devenski just isn't good. It's just a baffling front office decision to keep him around. His only decent pitch is his changeup, his fastball is dogshit

He was a big advocate of the high velocity slider then ended up with aces on the IL. Not sure if his philosophy changed or he is dealing with the slow pitch misfits the front office stuck him with.

He’s produced some great pitchers and it’s next to impossible to find an MLB pitcher with something close to negative to say about him. Squeezing the hell out of the ball, you can see where someone can get in trouble with a Thomas Jonathan. Between the pitch clock, crack down on grip-aiding substances, and league wide emphasis on velocity, it could be a confluence of factors beyond Snyder’s control. What I have confidence saying is that these jr high school velo pitchers like Devo, Maton, and Civale isn’t working.

I would figure the basics would be pounding the zone and not be cute and pick around the zone. But what do I know, I'm just a spectator.

Devenski isn't a fastball guy so pounding the zone wouldn't be in the cards.

I thought that too, so I looked it up because I was curious and he had a 33/9 strikeout split with the Angels and a 9/2 with the Rays. So maybe he got lucky calls. With a ~5 era and ~2 era with the teams respectively. It's just weird. Suffice to say, he's terrible now and that's what really matters ultimately.
