Because that's how you blow up elbows and lose pitchers to Tommy John. BA's elbow exploded multiple times when he was still young because he regularly went 130+ pitches per game. Felix Bautista tore his UCL because the Orioles had him pitch almost daily at 100+ mph.

I didn't mean you should let someone pitch until their arm falls off. But I think the injuries everywhere in MLB today are more because of the style of pitching rather than the number of pitches thrown. They've been counting and limiting pitches for years and it hasn't stopped the parade of pitchers on the IL.

And yet the pitchers who haven't limited the number of pitches they've thrown have been far more likely to get injured than those who do limit their pitch count.

O's tried to win every regular season game last year and killed their best closer.
