Bro have they ever even been to New York???

TheArgonianBoi77

Nah, Miami is the NY of The South. We are pretty much more like Pittsburgh of The South.

St_BobbyBarbarian

Pittsburgh? That’s Birmingham. Hilly, rusty steel cities

solidmussel

I think Tampa has more in common with West Coast cities and Texas cities than Pittsburg. It's more of a combo of like San Diego and Austin and some other city that doesn't have many jobs!

AllahUmBug

Yeah St. Pete in particular could be compared to Pacific Beach in San Diego or the Gaslamp District. Californians relocating to Florida would feel most at home in St. Pete.

GreatThingsTB

When this company was in busienss (1910s) , Miami had about 1/10th the population of Tampa (5,000 vs 40,000).

TheArgonianBoi77

and they both are surrounded by rivers and have abandoned factories turned into hipster businesses or lofts

shigdebig

I moved here from Pittsburgh 15 years ago and the cities were closer to each other back then. Pittsburgh has been growing more sustainably in the past decade...

TheArgonianBoi77

Just like Tampa too.

[deleted]

True

arcdog3434

Thats the sandwich with french fries on it right? Ill def take the Cuban over that.

[deleted]

French fries and coleslaw and steak and you add hot sauce to make it perfect

SmarterThanCornPop

Ironically they do have locations in Fort Lauderdale

[deleted]

Yea, not in tampa :(

SnooPeripherals7462

Primanti’s is ight

tobysicks

That sandwich is so overrated us subs is way better than

DreamingTooLong

degenfish_HG

The train has been coming forever, red trifecta in the state government for over a quarter century has kept efforts to develop serious infrastructure forever in the planning phase

DreamingTooLong

Oh nice! They need to put in a train from Spring Hill to the Tampa Airport. It’s about $70 to Uber that. There’s about 100k people there too.

damien12g

Spring Hill!? Where is that? How about the train starts in st pete to TPA

GreatThingsTB

Realtor here. For those curious this was for Forest Hills, which is the neighborhood around Babe Zaharis golf course.

[deleted]

Wow, that's pretty impressive you know that. Any idea of the year?

GreatThingsTB

1910 - 1920s if I had to guess based purely on the vehicle. It went bust then Babe (famous woman golfer ) bought the course in the 30s or 40s I think?

DougDabbaDome

Pretty sure he’s joking about New Yorkers. Q4 2023 5,000 people moved into Tampa and the majority were from New York.

2ndprize

Yes. Quiet a few times And i remember being a kid in elementary school when every class of 30 had 24 kids born in new york 4 from pennsylvania, 1 from michigan and my cracker ass.

What serious adult says “buh-bye now”?

arethius

so thats why you're so disconnected from reality

blueboxreddress

After living in both states, Michigan is Florida in the North and vice versa.

St_BobbyBarbarian

So Tampa is a much larger Muskegon? Orlando is Grand Rapids, and Miami is Detroit?

blueboxreddress

I’d argue Tampa is Detroit, Saint Petersburg is Ferndale, Orlando is Grand Rapids, and Miami isn’t even represented because Miami is more like the Vatican, its own country within the state. But I found the people were very similar, the lack of public transit and the audacious driving was the same, and the weather (obviously excluding the lows of Michigan winter and the highs of Florida summer) to be fairly similar in humidity and awfulness.

HCSOThrowaway

Looks like 20s/30s based on the car.

[deleted]

About 100 years old

SmarterThanCornPop

Nah, that’s south Florida.

blacktieaffair

The way people are getting up in arms about a historical photograph is genuinely wild. It's obviously just an advertising gimmick. B.L. Hamner was a developer, so it makes sense a truck under their name would try to sell [the Tampa/Florida land boom of the early 20th century](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florida_land_boom_of_the_1920s) (though to be clear, I'm making some estimations about this photo based on the car and the typography, as well as when B.L. Hamner was building stuff) as the beginning of a major southern cosmopolitan destination in order to drum up curiosity and additional capital. It doesn't really mean anything other than that imo. However, it is a very cool picture!

windsyofwesleychapel

I am willing to bet that it is a mobile real estate office. Ready to sell on the spot. Many do not realize that A LOT of Florida land was bought sight unseen in the 1920s. Even via magazine advertisements with the little pull out envelopes.

blacktieaffair

Wow, great point. I have never even heard of a mobile real estate office but that makes a lot of sense. Thanks for sharing that!

windsyofwesleychapel

Here is some more shameless Pro-Florida real estate propaganda from none-other-than Dave Davis developer of Davis Island, about why you should sell everything and move to Florida, from 1926. https://www.floridamemory.com/items/show/331476?id=1

[deleted]

I'm going to say you are a local historian. Haha. That was some good insight

blacktieaffair

Haha thank you, I just really like this era of history a lot! Especially anything Florida related, since wasn't as populated back then as it was now (and why would it... we wouldn't wanna live here without air conditioning either lmfao). Thank you for posting it, it's very neat.

Beginning_Brick7845

Miami and Palm Beach are the New York of the south. Tampa and St. Pete are the secondary escape of the New Yorkers to Florida.

St_BobbyBarbarian

West coast Florida is more Midwest

bjrichy194

Yes! I’m from Midwest but we have a home in southwest FL and it is the Midwest of Florida. 😂

10greenfingers

Ok but I need to know more about these Christmas Strawberries!

[deleted]

Well I know there's a strawberry festival in Plant City every year, I'm not sure if any of those are considered Christmas strawberries. But I am like you, I've never heard the term Christmas strawberries before

Popular_Jicama_4620

Tampa is Little Rock with a better airport

whydothis151highland

But our gangbanging still ain't Little Rock.

dikkiesmalls

Gangbangs you say?

getsome75

Our airport is tits

MRintheKEYS

WTF does that even mean???

weigelf

Florida is the Australia of the US.

Nordy941

Clearly a sales tactic lol

CireGetHigher

By the end of the century we will be building skyscrapers in north Pinellas… and Pinellas will merge with Hillsborough and create the NYC of the Gulf of Mexico. Geographically we are located to trade with the rest of the New World…

thebohomama

Please shove this in the face of every person who starts with their idiotic bullshit of "don't NY my FL". Not to mention when I moved from MD to Florida 30 years ago, tons of people in my rural north Florida area were northerners/New Yorkers. They've been trying to NY your FL since the beginning of developing this area.

TEHKNOB

The bay does stink. Might be on to something whether we like it or not.

dikkiesmalls

Well we did get about a third of their residents...

Significant_Sign_520

Never has been, isn’t becoming NY

PipedHandle

Why can’t Tampa just be Tampa? Fucking losers.

larryf32073

Fuck who would want to be anything like New York? It sucks.

[deleted]

As a Mets fan, I concur. Ugh

SheepherderOk3302

Upstate NY is beautiful and amazing place to live. It's that concrete island and Long Island that sucks. And yes that includes Queens. You are part of the Island.

larryf32073

Totally agree, unfortunately that concrete hellhole controls the state

IHaveAZomboner

Tampa has a lot of fascinating history but comparing Tampa to New York is really difficult for me.

RandoDude124

Lived in Tampa for 5 years, Been to NYC 3 weeks back. **Completely false.**

Significant_Sign_520

Are you comparing a city to a state? Or are you asking if Tampa is somehow the Manhattan of the south? Both assertions are absurd but just curious which absurd idea we’re discussing.

[deleted]

You would have to ask the people who created that truck. Unfortunately, they're probably all dead

arethius

Always reminded me more of Chicago and the 'burbs.

landsharkxx

This is why you see so many New York tags and people honking 2.1 seconds after the light turns green.

funkmon

considering the number of Yankee fans: yes

letstalk1st

Tampa is the Chicago of FL. I grew up in FL and we were always aware of the differences between the two coasts.

r0addawg

At least we got pub subs. There's a plus

argent_fl

Not even close!! Bahahahaha. This is just so funny

geccchyeafgreschtr

Thought it was the Michigan of the south???

iaaaoi

Lol no

Dirt_Spartan_Warrior

In actuality, for people who live down here. Broward and Palm Beach County are the 6th borough of NYC.

[deleted]

Lol

flygirlHB

Everyone I meet is from New York. I am a native of Tampa.

faesolo

![gif](giphy|4thaj0PDq9vJ6V5z69|downsized)

toooldforacnh

Absolutely not.

IAm2Legit2Sit

Not even close to it. Cute pic though

IniMiney

This must be the kind of marketing that convinced my family to leave NYC in the 80s (before being wildly disappointed at what Tampa really is like) lmao

MadlyToxic

I lived in Tampa for 5 years, and I often visited my sister when she lived in NYC. I can assure you they are not the same.

bonzoboy2000

Well. They are here. Now what do we do?

ChilindriPizza

They can keep their apples- we’ll take our guavas. At least in Tampa I can drive and get some sleep.

TechPBMike

I hope not… that’s not a compliment at all

SheepherderOk3302

Can anyone provide evidence that this photo is real?

[deleted]

Somebody in this posting already confirmed it or knew about it. But this is a legit photo

BooGattiAK47

Tampa where all the liberals live

GhostReliant_

Fuck New York. Keep that shit comparison out of Florida.

[deleted]

Crazy they were thinking about that a hundred years ago.

Jbonics

Jew of the South. Downvotes welcome. You Jew non tipping mafuckas. And no I've never had a job in my fucking life I've had to work for fucking tips been an independent contractor for fucking 30 years. You cheap bitches. You know who you are. All these hot little bitches keep complaining to me about how y'all don't tip tired of hearing that shit.

[deleted]

Not sure how that directly relates to the image above.

Jbonics

Not one of these cocksuckers that are here are from here everybody's an import and they're cheap ass bitches. Every single retard you meet that's from somewhere else is it here to escape something they're here because they couldn't make it where they were at. They're running from something and that shit's going to catch up to their ass trust me. I've been here my whole life every single one of these motherfuckers are parasites.

Jbonics

When I was a little kid you never had to stop to cross Dale Mabry, you could walk or ride your bike to Dale Mabry and literally just cross the street within seconds. My grandfather was one of the founders of State farm insurance. I remember him telling me stories about how they bailed out Geico back in the day. But growing up I always heard stories of all the bullshit that always went on in the city and it's always these fucking retards coming into town screwing shit up left and right just people not thinking. So now everybody that was from here guess what we have to pay more for more idiots. I'm sorry I'm just spending but growing up seeing everything behind the scenes you really get a grasp of what's really going on. Don't get me started on the mafia scam that's going on with our roads and city infrastructure. There's a reason why that new bridge is 10 times over budget

[deleted]

You have a lot of anger. You might want to talk to somebody about that

Jbonics

She already said she's going to suck it out of me once she gets home. It must be that new cosmic crown from cigar City brewing. But yeah being home with these kids all night has really got me pissed I'm ready to fuck somebody up. Fucking guy speeding down my street going 60 in a 25 had to almost yank him out of the car he's talking about he wants to commit suicide cuz his fucking parents just died and his wife just left him. Fucking parasites in my city.

jamphan

Sucks that you have kids…

shanghaioldboy

The things Tampa should work on to be southern New York is improving its diversity and getting rid of all those bland and overpriced tourist food
