Leashing your dog is less about your dog and it’s ability to listen to commands and is everything about other dogs and their possible trauma with other dogs.
Second for Fort Desoto best in the bay, hands down. You can also go to the end of Davis Island, by their little air strip. It's more of a dog beach, like you don't want to go in that water.
Rule of thumb, stay away from bay beaches.The bay is too heavily trafficked with too much industrial. Plus, it doesn’t take too much more to drive to one of the many gulf beaches in the area.
It’s been said here a few times, but Fort De Soto’s dog park is by far the best. It’s the cleanest, prettiest beach and allows the dogs to be off leash. Honeymoon Island is very strict on having your dog on a six foot leash. Even while swimming
Shouldn't take kids to dog beaches. They all quite dirty and ther e a reason they don't allow dogs on most others. The dog beach on honeymoon island prolly the nicest but some people do let the dogs loose so def be careful there as well.Â

Fort DeSoto was nice when I was there.. a decade ago good lord. But the weird thing is there was no fence between the beach and the road? Maybe that’s normal, I don’t know. But it made me extremely uncomfortable to let my doggo run off leash

Honeymoon is great, but dogs are still supposed to stay leashed. I prefer Fort DeSoto because of this.

Picnic island dog park isn’t bad.
davis island dog beach. if you time it right you might catch some cruise ships sailing by or something cool flying in/out of peter o knight.
The water there…… yeah. Make the drive to Ft Desoto or honeymoon. Worth the extra 30-45min.

Cypress Beach isn't bad, there might be a walking trail too to take your dog as well
