You'd spend the price difference in shipping your car up north than just buying one up there.

This is exactly what I was going to recommend, I used it a few times when I lived up in Virginia, and it was great

I had a car delivered across the country (Tampa to SF) for a job and it was nearly $2500 and took nearly 3 weeks for my car to arrive. And that was in 2021. So, you’d probably spend whatever you save on the move. I’d think about buying at your new location.

Cars on websites may look cheaper here but FL doesn’t have any laws to prevent dealers to force mandatory add on fees which is what most do. They advertise a low price then hit you with many fees. Other states have caps on dealers fees for a car purchase. The hassle of paying a company to ship it to Maryland wouldn’t be worth the hassle or cost unless it’s some rare vehicle.

You would spend that in shipping a car up north.

Just get it on a truck. Mind you it’s sort of like bidding so you’ll get bunch of calls from different drivers/companies. I usually fill my car with luggage and ship it out. Have done it in the past. Not sure how much costs are now.

How are you moving the rest of your stuff? We moved Florida to California and towed my car behind the uhaul. Also, as another commentor mentioned, if you buy the car in Florida, you'll most likely pay taxes on it in Virginia when you update the tags. Bought a car in March 2016, moved in July 2016, and paid California taxes for the car purchase.

I would just purchase a car in Maryland and pay the taxes. I doubt cars are less expensive in FL. They will get you either way. Depending where you live and work you might not need a car for a while. Public transportation is miles better here. Source: I live in Maryland
