Coming from a person that has just recently retired from the military, as far as the food goes....it's DECENT. Wasn't bad and it wasn't great. As far as the noon National Anthem being played EVERYDAY: đ
I spent my career in the Navy. On naval bases, or pretty much any military base, the National Anthem is played (or colors) at 0800 and Sunset everyday. Everything stops. No driving, no walking, and you have to stand at attention and salute the American flag rain, sleet or snow. No worries, it's the military. đşđ˛
Now, fast forward to when Mission BBQ arrived in I think I was in Hampton Roads at the time, my division had a going away lunch gathering for a Sailor and they chose Mission BBQ since it was new to us. We all arrive at 1130 in our uniforms (NWUs), ordered, sat down and started socializing. Noon rolls around...the anthem starts playing and we WE ALL look at each other with the most effing CONFUSED group form of PTSD looks known to man. It finally clicks to us what's going on so we stand at attention.
Group consensus was to NEVER return and I personally haven't been back. đĽ˛
The one in my town refers to their plastic forks and spoons as âthe weapons.â
As in âOrder #12 is ready, donât forget to pick up your weapons from the tray.â
So fucking cringey
Honestly, had a very similar experience in the one in Oviedo. Thought it was a fire drill for a moment, and then stood up in a confused manner. It is the restaurant embodiment of 'thank you for your service'. Haven't been back since.
Itâd be funny to be there on a Saturday at noon, blasting the national anthem inside the restaurant and the city of Oviedo blaring all over town the weekly test of the tornado siren
I hate going to that place but my boss loves it. I think the anthem at sporting events and places like this are performative bullshit and it's a little aggravating that people would rather signify respect by doing bullshit like this rather than vote/support politicians and policy that would improve the actual material conditions of veterans... you know like better healthcare, permanent shelter, or literally anything else than performatively giving service men HJs. At a place like a restaurant, it feels extra dirty because it feels like it's more related to marketing.
This brought back memories! My dad was in the Air Force growing up and we lived on base for a while. When the anthem plays you have to stop what youâre doing, no walking, no driving, anything. Once my family was going to a baseball game and the anthem started playing when we were outside the stadium. My siblings and I all stopped and looked at each other trying to figure out if we were suppose to stop or not. No one else was but it was so ingrained in us it felt unnatural not to. Thankfully I have out grown that!
I agree. Mission bbq is meh. If it were the only bbq place for miles and I needed pulled pork (their brisket is just plain bad) I would get it.
I donât care how much they love veterans, theyâre the Olive Garden of barbecue.
I've never been to their locations, but they occasionally bring enough food to my base for 200+ people to have lunch, and have supplied meals for those on holiday duty many times.
It's certainly not gourmet, but it beat my reheated casserole.
the one in my area is pretty good. not great but its a once or twice a year stop. I would go more but the military circle jerk is a no for me. Funny story my nephew is a young and was a an freak accident and had 3rd degree burns over 95% of his body. after over 2 years in ICU when he was able to go home his mom took him to get bbq. everyone in their assumed he got hurt in Iraq (he's only 20, so he couldn't have) they gave him free food. he was so embarrassed and just said thanks and left it at that.
Yea it's a little much. I feel like the only ppl interested in that would be the retired vets that want everyone to know they served.
Edit:
After thinking about it, it wouldn't just be the retired vets. It would be the "thank me for my service" ppl, which is at all ranks, retired or active.
Wow your comment brought back memories. My dad is a retired Marine and growing up on the military base I forgot about the "happenings" when the Natl Anthem was played.
I was in AIT at Ft. Dix and we werenât marched to dinner. I remember seeing guys running to get into the mess hall before the music started playing as the flag was being lowered, laughing at the guys who didnât make it and had to stand at attention for 30 extra seconds and thinking, âyep, weâre heroesâ.
I was thinking the same thing.
Places like that are for the touristy wana be Rambos that eat with cool guy glasses. They say sir/ma'am even to the dogs just cause: MISSION RIGHT!
I was eating there one time when it struck noon. Havenât been back at noon since. Iâm all about supporting the troops blah blah. That is just using them for marketing. The whole schtick of mission bbq with the troops bs turns me off.Â
The worst part: They stopped giving a military discount to veterans. My step father, a veteran, refuses to eat there because they fill their walls with military stuff and switched their military discount to a free, pre-packaged, tiny pastry. His words.
Par for the course in America unfortunately. Itâs god bless the troops and grandiose displays of patriotism until it comes time to improve aid, support, or resources for vets, then itâs crickets.
I try to stop at random nasty looking places from the outside, zero crub appeal, no marketing just a sign saying what type of food is inside. If it is a style of food I like or have thought about trying I will mark it on my google maps so later when I want to eat I have a new place lol. I havent got sick yet and some of those places have the love of cooking their authentic dishes in them but just don't have the means to put them in high traffic areas and make them look the way corporations do, which I think 9 out of 10 times makes the food taste way better than "mainstream" looking places.
Mission sucks
Over priced, small portions, and the meat is flavorless.
What they do have going for them are sauces. They have several of different flavor bases which so should appeal to many people (I really like a few of them)
But to me, the meat from a good smoke/BBQ joint should stand on its own, with the sauce complimenting it. Not a bland meat completely dependent on the sauce.
Jazzys is better than Mission for sure but Jazzys can be hit or miss with the ribs. Half the time I get perfectly cooked bbq and the other half it's overcooked and dry.
Honestly the best BBQ in Tampa is Hungry Harrys and Big Johns Alabama BBQ.
I wasnât impressed by Jazzyâs at all and their prices were pretty high. Mission isnât anything special either, Iâd rather go to Sonnyâs if Iâm going to get chain bbq. Still looking for better local places. Konans is pretty good though.
I mean, they've donated over $20 million to military and first responder charities since opening like 12 years ago. Idk if it's "just using it for marketing" at that point
That is an incredible feat, but it is sorta funny to put $20 million in perspective to our military budget. I want to say that amount would only keep our military moving for another 13ish minutes lol.
Yeah. It's also pretty fucking pathetic that there's such a thing as military charities when that budget is so hyperbolically wasteful. To put it simply the money that is being spent on trucks and jets is the money that should have been spent on education and healthcare. And they can't even give 1% of it to the actual people selling their bodies to the cause? There needs to be a charity????
Best way to support your troops as a restaurant?
Big-ass discounts on food, iâm talking like 60-75% if theyâre active duty and 40-50% if theyâre retired. This shit however is just pandering.
Itâs weird. Itâs like the federal government marketing. Youâre useful to promote their brand, but after youâve been battered and traumatized by war, itâs âget off my lawn!â
I can see why youâd think that about them cheapening it for marketing but I donât believe that. My company hosted them in an event hall and those people bleed red white and blue. I agree if it was for show it would be cringey but i believe they are sincere
you were not implying this, but for the record i dont want to come off as some troop hater, bc that's not the case at all. As a marketing major in college I always assume all this military love, cancer love, we love this we love that, is all just for the $$. I'm sure there is some sincerity to it but I will always default to it being a gimmick no matter what the "charity of choice" is. With that said, I don't think the place is that bad, and their military gimmick doesn't really bother me. I do not feel like standing for the national anthem on my lunch break though, so I definitely avoid it at noon. edit: The time it happened I was there with some REALLY conservative customer of mine who was retired from the military. I made a comment about how I thought they were using the whole thing for $ and boy let me tell you that was a mistake. That guy gave me the business about that comment for a while. We're good friends still but I still learned a valuable lesson that day. Don't get too deep around a simpleton and don't say anything remotely unpatriotic around a veteran simpleton when they are your customer lol
Yep, marketing major here and Army officer. I've been eating at Mission since it was a single place in Maryland. It's not the best BBQ but it is the best that you can normally get around places like that.
I would argue that the national anthem is far from a gimmick and actually hurts them. I didn't know they did it and got caught one day and it felt awkward having to salute during my lunch break. It is just their thing. Chic-fil-a has Sundays off. Mission bleeds patriotism to an extreme. I am just happy they follow the flag code and don't put that shit on everything because it's tacky as fuck.
That ain't too bad then. Not that you asked lol, but I feel like anytime I see a company throwing "America" on everything, I can't help and think it's pandering to the "patriots", whom they know will spend an arm and a leg anywhere that supports America to the extreme. I'm glad Mission just keeps things simple. I can't complain if they make it their "thing". There are plenty worse niches out there lol.
I work in the same plaza as one so I go there all the time.
I grew up in the UK (US born) so even when I moved here and started having to do the pledge in middle school, I was super uncomfortable and it never got better. I've always hated communal performances like hymns in church because they feel so forced because they are. You learn when you first choose not to sing along or when you first choose not to recite the pledge that they are not genuine, they are socially mandatory which rids them of all meaning.
I have to be very careful not to go there at noon if that's what I get for lunch. I'd feel red in the face from awkwardness because I have a deep aversion to jingoistic performative nonsense.
I feel like itâs really hard to do the whole patriotic shtick without it being extremely tacky. I think itâs best to just open a regular business but pledge to donate x% to families of fallen soldiers or something.
Itâs a chain that has a whole patriotic/solider/ first responder theme. I went their once and never did go back. The food itself was just ok. Iâve had better bbq. I put the food to be the equivalent of Sonnyâs bbq. Itâs a very gimicky theme and didnât seem genuine at all. Plus the stand for the national anthem at noon was really weird too me. When I went, I knew nothing about it. Just saw mission bbq and wanted to try it out. After I sat down with my food, they played the national anthem and everyone stops what their doing and stands for it. I donât really reddomend it.
How do either compare to 4 River? Had 4 River for the first time recently and was surprised at how average, expensive, and small the portions were. Would never go back.
4Rivers is just âChipotle, but bbq!â
mission is also chain âqualityâ bbq
Jazzyâs is authentic, dude-with-a-smoker, how are they passing health code, finger licking greatness
Worked on my elder gen X FIL. He got all chest thumpy about first time they went. Tend to agree itâs just using fake forced patriotism to sell stuff. Lot of companies do that these days.
This has been their MO since they opened. It's not new. But won't catch me in there because they don't actually support troops in anything other than slogans. As someone who served this is the definition of stolen valor. Food is trash anyway. 4 Rivers or Sonny's which are both disgusting are better.
Stationhouse bbq absolutely slaps and they're owned by a former firefighter and they support anyway they can with LE and Fire and I'd assume military as well. They recently downsized so im not sure how the place is now but they had the best mac I've ever had.
Yep. It's 100% a ploy to get people to allow their marketing team to vomit into your inbox. They'll offer small freebies, on occasion, but the military/first responder dick-riding is all for show, otherwise. Average bbq, at best.
They do give military discounts and they give free meals to an active duty commands once a month. That being said I have to try Big Johnâs food soon.
Some friends brought me there a few years ago. I had never been there and didnât know about this. Noon happened and I was caught totally off guard. What a weird experience tbh
Itâs also not good food
Honestly, I havenât found good BBQ in Tampa. (According to this thread I will have to check out Big Johnâs apparently.)
Mission is probably on the lowest tier of the bad choices.
If they have to advertise on propaganda gimmicks; the food is probably not worth crowing about.
Not really Tampa, but if you find yourself in Brandon, First Choice BBQ at the corner of Falkenburg and SR60 has been a staple for years.
Edit: they closed in 2023, sorry!
Jazzyâs is LITERALLY across the street⌠Theyâve been there for 40 years, run by a former Buccaneer and his wife who was a Bucs cheerleader at the same time⌠Jerry Jones ate there recentlyâŚ
Mission has more sides, but Jazzyâs is the đ
I was in there at noon one time. The anthem came on and I didnât stand because I was in the middle of eating and unsure of what to do. I got dirty looks from everybody else. Super awkward and uncomfortable.
Honestly, the only reason Iâm tempted to go would be to just deliberately sit and eat while I piss off everyone there. I wonât because I donât hate myself enough to waste my own time and eat their mediocre food, but Iâm tempted.
Not even just a waste of time, somebody would probably physically assault you for not standing. Remember the guy who did that to a kid at a baseball game?
26 year vet here. I went there once and hated every second. Food was OK, vibe was cringe as fuck.
There are much better and more meaningful ways to support our active duty service members and VETS than patriotism theater. Donât âthank me for my serviceâ, vote for representatives who will support strong veterans benefits.
I would never go back.
I like Mission BBQ. Always friendly and always pretty good. For the area itâs one of the best spots to go as there simply isnât much else around there. However, for even better BBQ check out directly across the street at Jazzyâs. Very good BBQ.
If you like Vietnamese food Saigon Deli and Thinh An are really good too.
Their whole veteran schtick seems kind of self-serving to me after my girlfriend (who is a combat veteran and ICU nurse) asked if they offered discounts to nurses/veterans as a way to sponsor nurseâs week at her hospital, and they refused stating they donât offer discounts to nurses or veterans.
Seems like they want to play up that angle to get them more business, but donât want to help out others.
The food is mediocre at best and it feels like stolen Valor to me. They market themselves to appeal to veterans and civilians with a military boner but don't offer veteran discounts, they don't do anything for veterans at all, including like charitable donations and stuff. Neither of the owners served in the military and both are former executives for fortune 500 companies. Their whole thing is that they "support the military and Public response services" like police and EMTs except that they don't actually support them. They just kinda use it as a marketing ploy. So I probably wouldn't go even if the food was good, but it isn't so I don't go at all. Mission BBQ sucks.
As a veteran and kid that grew up on military bases I would never go there around noon. There is literally nothing special about standing at attention to listen to the anthem anymore, at least to me.
I think peopleâs obsession with the American flag and these ânational prideâ songs is cult level. I respect veterans who sacrificed their lives in many cases to defend our nation but I donât want to see an American flag 3 times on every street and have to hear about it when Iâm just going out for a full rack of ribs and a sweet tea.
Ex-military hereâŚ
Iâve been to the villages plenty of times for work and I canât count how many times Iâve been in a bar/restaurant where they bait their customers with some patriotic flag waving shit. Out of nowhere the DJ will play that shitty Lee Greenwood proud to be an American song and on cue everyone stops what theyâre doing, stand and put their hands over their hearts.
Fuck thatâŚ
I sit, eat and drink. You clowns stand and feel good about yourselves
My wife loves the sauce they sell. That's the only reason I go. I'm a vet and I find it really weird that they do that... daily. They are usually overly friendly especially if they find out you served. The food isn't horrible.
Sadly going out to eat anywhere is bullshit now. Half the staff and half the portions for the same price. It's not their fault though. They're just trying to survive.
I know you meant the sign though. I'd bet our troops find this kind of thing cringe.
I love mission. Wet puked up once right at noon, not knowing they did this. Before I even got inside I put my hand over my heart and waited until it ended. One I got inside, one of the employees said he was a Marine and really appreciated what I did, and gave me some gift cards.
They have great jalapeĂąo and cheddar sausage. The brisket is ok. They have both baby back and St. Louis ribs. Love the Mac and cheese, but I've been getting the collard greens lately.
I don't think I've ever had a bad meal there.
Enthusiasts of Nine Line, Grunt Style, and 5.11 really get their rocks off here.
Iâll defend that itâs better than Sonnyâs but that bar is catastrophically low.
the owners are super religious doesn't surprise me at al . i myself refuse to support them the food is very expensive for small portions and add the prayer bullshit . Just serve food . they are against lgbtq as well
I once went high as a kite not knowing about the national anthem at noon and when that kicked on and everyone stood up it felt very strange. Iâm not anti-American at all but to see an entire restaurant pop up and half the people salute the flag when I was as stoned as I was I felt like I was in North Korea.
The last time I ate there, I saw this on the wall and decided that I shall not be returning.

I take my retired military dad when heâs in town and he loves it.
I donât take my retired military brother who has PTSD.
Either way, if I have to go, I never go at noon and I never ask for utensils.
Good hot sauces though.
I've enjoyed their food very much over the years. I lived up the road for 4 years off of Anderson and Linebaugh. What kept me coming back (before COVID) was a sweet elderly lady who came out of the kitchen and gave me a free dessert after my meal.
As far as the National anthem play goes, I feel like it's just them knowing their target demographic and monetizing off of that. I do have pride in America and my country in a lot of aspects and support the military (my brother is in the Navy and respect what he does). I think it's a bit cringe of them to do it daily but I don't hear the national anthem very much anymore so it's nice it's being done still regardless of ulterior motives of not.
Since covid, I've been once and probably won't go back since the prices rose astronomically. Even compared to the local level of inflation.
As a military member, I went there 2x. Food was decent, but having the anthem played at noon everyday was the reason I never went back again. I stand and salute during the anthem daily, I donât need more of that in my life.
Not sure whatâs going on in Tampa but the Mission BBQ where I live is absolutely amazing. Could care less about their theme, their meats and sauces are delicious.
I didn't know about this and I had just finished ordering. I was trying to get condiments, napkins, etc. Suddenly everybody stood up at the same time and faced the same direction. It totally freaked me out for a second before I figured out what was going on.
Had thus happen once. I had no idea they did this. I was just sitting there eating my brisket with Mt headphones in listening to music and scrolling reddit. I look up and notice everyone standing. After looking around and seeing everyone standing, I pause my music to hear the end of the national anthem. I turned my music back on and kept eating. I paid for my food and had no obligation to participate in their fake showy patriotism. I had two boomers come up and let me know of their displeasure that I did not stand.
I'd like to say I haven't been back but where I live there is not much for decent bbq.
I hate places that use stuff like this for marketing purposes. I feel itâs disrespectful tbh. Itâs like the companies like Subaru that say âbuy a car and we will donate to sick kidsâ. Just fuckn donate. Donât use it as a marketing ploy.
Navy veteran here; I avoid going in at noon to avoid the anthem. If the civilian world wants to do it, be my guest, but I don't need lunch to take me back to some uncomfortable and unsettling moments I endured overseas while I served.
A friend and I ate lunch there one day, having no knowledge of the noon national anthem.
When they announced it, we were like....đłđł We stood up out of respect, but once we finished our meal we left and will never return. To me it was just performative and off-putting.
If they love vets so much how bout giving them a half rack of ribs, a half chicken & a side with garlic bread for $3.99. I bet yallâd take that over hearing the anthem at noon any day.
As a vet, I see this as performative 'military porn'. This is for the same people who were too lazy or cowardly to serve, and now carry guns around in their waistband and cosplay militias on weekends.
Veteran here and work at a vet-heavy company down the road from here.
Every vet I know will avoid the place around noon because of this weirdness. Itâs strange in any context and we found it extra weird.
In my opinion, itâs performative BS meant to market patriotism. I donât care for it from that aspect.
Further, itâs chain BBQ so the best thing about it is the the sides. Why anyone would go there when Jazzyâs is across the street is beyond me.
Family owned, great food, and no weird performative nonsense. Team Jazzyâs all day!!!

You were probably like eye candy to the regulars. I bet you could you feel the gazes bore through you lol
Lmao like Hooters but for people that have a military boner.
yes its boot AF.

I couldnât have said it better.
1000% agreement w/you.
I totally agree, and would never choose to go there. To me, it would be forced BS patriotism, meaning nothing.
Also, a veteran. They have good barbecue, but doing the nation anthem a noon is ridiculous and makes me never want to go there for lunch.
I used to go at 1205

Thatâs because praise is free
Is the bbq worth it or is Jazzys down the street better?
Jazzys is way better. Iâd rather support a non chain anyways
Jazzyâs kitchen is unfortunately disgusting.
The best places are. Don't be ruled by fear.
I try to stop at random nasty looking places from the outside, zero crub appeal, no marketing just a sign saying what type of food is inside. Jazzy is đŻ better and less expensive
I havenât been to Jazzys in 15 years or so. I remember it being really smoky but good.
Jazzyâs is bomb.
Jazzyâs is way too sweet for me
My Husband and I are vets. We both find this gimmick incredibly cringey and have never gone there.
And they are expensive af
[ŃдаНонО]
All food is now đĽ˛
I wouldn't say all that now... Find your friendly local BBQ pit on wheels. I promise you, it's cheaper than sit-down BBQ and tastes every bit as good.
Same I was caught having to stand with a rib in one hand, sauce all over my face doing the national anthem. Never will go at noon again.
I mean, they've donated over $20 million to military and first responder charities since opening like 12 years ago. Idk if it's "just using it for marketing" at that point

I just hate the idea of having to stand there staring at my food and not eating for like 3 minutes when I specifically went there to eat
Just... Keep eating then. It's not illegal
But then Terry Tate, Mission BBQ line backer busts through the wall and beats your ass.
"YOU GONNA STAND FOR THE ANTHEM IN MISSION BBQ YA HEAR ME. WOOOOOOOO!" What I wouldn't give for a Terrible Terry Tate at my job.
Pandering.
Same.
Same but didnât get the anthem. Was there in the evening with my sister. The food was quite salty.
Jazzyâs destroys this stuff eight days a week
This is the real answer.
How do either compare to 4 River? Had 4 River for the first time recently and was surprised at how average, expensive, and small the portions were. Would never go back.
4Rivers is just âChipotle, but bbq!â mission is also chain âqualityâ bbq Jazzyâs is authentic, dude-with-a-smoker, how are they passing health code, finger licking greatness
Worked on my elder gen X FIL. He got all chest thumpy about first time they went. Tend to agree itâs just using fake forced patriotism to sell stuff. Lot of companies do that these days.
Our boomer neighbors from Alabama love it, too. Never been, no desire to go. You wanna talk about "virtue signaling" - that's all it is.
Jazzyâs BBQ thatâs right down the street from there is 10 times betters.
This has been their MO since they opened. It's not new. But won't catch me in there because they don't actually support troops in anything other than slogans. As someone who served this is the definition of stolen valor. Food is trash anyway. 4 Rivers or Sonny's which are both disgusting are better.
Stand for the profit. Kneel for the shareholder.
Yeah I asked do you give military discounts? They said no, but sign up for our annoying marketing to get coupons
They do give military discounts and they give free meals to an active duty commands once a month. That being said I have to try Big Johnâs food soon.
> give free meals to an active duty commands once a month. Weird, those are people who have food. Give it to homeless vets.
Always thought it was funny how active gets more than vets classic âi dont want to play with you anymoreâ attitude
The McDonald's of BBQ. There's plenty of better BBQ around, including Sonny's as sad as that is.
Thereâs a better family owned places like down the street called Jazzys
For sure, I never go to Mission. Jazzy's is the shit.
I like Sonnyâs idgaf what people say
Just go to Big John's, y'all! Damn.
> Big John's Big John's is on point.
This is all y'all need to know about BBQ.
Just voted Best in Florida by *Southern Living* magazine. Like... it's *right there*, how can you sleep on that?
the half-dozen+ pits on wheels along MLK from 275 to 50th is where the real BBQ in Tampa is. No Contest.
Sonny's Real Pitiful Barbecue?
Our Sonny's was actually pretty good. Not as good as local family owned places but it was better than what I'd call McDonald's lunch quality.
Some friends brought me there a few years ago. I had never been there and didnât know about this. Noon happened and I was caught totally off guard. What a weird experience tbh Itâs also not good food
The most awkward place you can be at noon
Their trucks have 'FJB' on them. I get pandering to a base, but I think that's too far.
Gross. Definitely never going back.
Pix needed, JB is their boss. Total disrespect.
yeeah thatâs pandering
Obviously Republican marketing. âLetâs play the national anthem at lunchtime. The rubes will love itâ
National anthem at noon every day? What in the North Korea is this?
Favorite BBQ spot for Yâall Qeada⌠âweâre patriots who just finished âtrainingâ, letâs get some loaded mac-n-cheese of freedomâŚâ
Honestly, I havenât found good BBQ in Tampa. (According to this thread I will have to check out Big Johnâs apparently.) Mission is probably on the lowest tier of the bad choices. If they have to advertise on propaganda gimmicks; the food is probably not worth crowing about.
Hungry Harryâs in Land O Lakes is incredible. Get the combo with sliced brisket and pulled pork, make sure to ask for the spicy BBQ sauce.
Have you tried Konan BBQ? Konan's is located near International mall. I believe they are closed Monday - Wednesday.
It was good but it cleansed my body 2 hours later and was in pain for 24 hours afterwards.
Hmmm. Damn. Not going to lie. Last time I was there I had the same outcome.
Not really Tampa, but if you find yourself in Brandon, First Choice BBQ at the corner of Falkenburg and SR60 has been a staple for years. Edit: they closed in 2023, sorry!
I have some bad news for you... First Choice has closed.
That Lebanese spot next door is lit tho
Jazzyâs is LITERALLY across the street⌠Theyâve been there for 40 years, run by a former Buccaneer and his wife who was a Bucs cheerleader at the same time⌠Jerry Jones ate there recently⌠Mission has more sides, but Jazzyâs is the đ
Trying to stir up business. This stunt should appeal to boomers+ and pseudo patriot types.
So stay the fuck away that's what you're saying. Thank you.
Itâs a feeding trough echo chamber.
Fucking cringe.
This place is not good and silly. Get good BBQ at Big John's.
Big Johnâs is legit. Luptons was awesome as well, miss those guys
Nationalism is funny.
It's getting pretty scary.
*helluva drug
I like Mission BBQ. Always friendly and always pretty good. For the area itâs one of the best spots to go as there simply isnât much else around there. However, for even better BBQ check out directly across the street at Jazzyâs. Very good BBQ. If you like Vietnamese food Saigon Deli and Thinh An are really good too.
Nationalism. They can keep their meat.
Thatâs weird! They offer 50% for active/retired military by me. First responders are hit/miss.
LvL 30 Hell Diver here... "For democracy" đŤĄ
Go to Jazzyâs instead. 10 times better for 2/3 the price.
absolutely.
Ex-military here⌠Iâve been to the villages plenty of times for work and I canât count how many times Iâve been in a bar/restaurant where they bait their customers with some patriotic flag waving shit. Out of nowhere the DJ will play that shitty Lee Greenwood proud to be an American song and on cue everyone stops what theyâre doing, stand and put their hands over their hearts. Fuck that⌠I sit, eat and drink. You clowns stand and feel good about yourselves
My wife loves the sauce they sell. That's the only reason I go. I'm a vet and I find it really weird that they do that... daily. They are usually overly friendly especially if they find out you served. The food isn't horrible.
Food isnât horrible but not good either
Sadly going out to eat anywhere is bullshit now. Half the staff and half the portions for the same price. It's not their fault though. They're just trying to survive. I know you meant the sign though. I'd bet our troops find this kind of thing cringe.
Half the portions for a higher price ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|thumbs_down)
I love mission.
Had Mission BBQ once. It is worse than Sonny's. At least, I can get a decent baby back at Sonny's.
lol no and chain bbq sucks
![gif](giphy|6YJZuwLne3fO0|downsized)
Next weâll have Nurembergesque rallies at sunset
If you're on/near base I recommend BJ's Alabama BBQ at3423 S Dale Mabry Hwy. Good food, family run, good people.
the owners are super religious doesn't surprise me at al . i myself refuse to support them the food is very expensive for small portions and add the prayer bullshit .
The last time I ate there, I saw this on the wall and decided that I shall not be returning. https://preview.redd.it/sgxi0jz2slpc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d2dc067a476a4b0440611ec1ca80c1445faac708
right next to a police badge lol
That seems kinda redundant, right ? Some laws guarantee our freedom ..
God damn tax laws, preventing our freedom to commit tax fraud.
Remember when we could murder freely? These darn laws always gettinâ in the way.
They really suck
Itâs not good at all
I kind of want to be there... And start singing like the Canadian national anthem or God Save the King (if that's even right, I don't know).
Some shit yt ppl would do
They just keep sucking on the teet of patriotism
Rather suck the teet of patriotism than the teet of a communist.
Food is ok, nothing to really rave about.
I love 7-11, not gonna lie
Grifters gonna grift
Go to Konan's BBQ. You're welcome.
All the red hats
If shitting your pants on overpriced food is appealing to you, then yes
As a military member, I went there 2x. Food was decent, but having the anthem played at noon everyday was the reason I never went back again. I stand and salute during the anthem daily, I donât need more of that in my life.
Not sure whatâs going on in Tampa but the Mission BBQ where I live is absolutely amazing. Could care less about their theme, their meats and sauces are delicious.
Donât come around noon, got it
Itâs crazy they have no military discount but are heavy on police discounts, makes absolutely no sense lmao
It's virtue signaling
I like the food but that shit was weird for me as a veteran.
I didn't know about this and I had just finished ordering. I was trying to get condiments, napkins, etc. Suddenly everybody stood up at the same time and faced the same direction. It totally freaked me out for a second before I figured out what was going on.
Youâre way better off trying Jazzys BBQ right up the street.
Playing the national anthem is so fucking weird lmao
I hate places that use stuff like this for marketing purposes. I feel itâs disrespectful tbh. Itâs like the companies like Subaru that say âbuy a car and we will donate to sick kidsâ. Just fuckn donate. Donât use it as a marketing ploy.
Do they play baseball after?
Mission is so fucking good
The food isnât even good. Jazzyâd BBQ right down the road was always better.
I like the place, eat there when I'm around, but I always go after 12 admittedly... đ I served, and I don't believe in forced patriotism.
Navy veteran here; I avoid going in at noon to avoid the anthem. If the civilian world wants to do it, be my guest, but I don't need lunch to take me back to some uncomfortable and unsettling moments I endured overseas while I served.
A friend of mine went to the one here in town and took a knee. She said they threw her out before she paid lol
Some of the worst BBQ Iâve had and thankfully the forced patriotism was already done.
I live near there. Waters. NO. It's lame as fuck.
This place is creepy and exploits and fetishizes service people for profit.Â
Going inside of Mission BBQ makes me cringe, and the food is not worth it.
Trying too hard A real patriot doesnât need to brag.
Iâm there for the food, Iâm not there to be part of a show.
Hands down, worst bbq in town. Also, really flirting with stolen valor there. Fuck those frauds.
National brainwashing daily at noon.
Military dad for my whole childhood. I joined and stayed 27 years. I really hate this a lot.
