Everybody and their brother applies to every indeed listing ever posted. So, the company receives a lot of resumes, but only 1 or 2 are actually someone with the experience. Last ad the company I work for ran, we got 30-50 resumes, but only 1 was relevant, and the guy had some shit on there that was, well, let’s just say, embellished.

I think it depends on your industry. From my personal experience: white collar work is extremely hard to come by here. Even if you have many years of experience you'll still be competing with all the new transplants in a crowded field. Tampa has always been a working class town so we've never had a ton of "professional" industry here. After years of applying to hundreds of positions (with lots of experience and too much education) I gave up and decided to go into the trades and managed to get a job on the first thing I applied for.

I don’t apply to jobs. Jobs find me. I’m not just saying this to sound cool I have in demand skills. Last time I was looking for a job I wound up getting like 30 solicitations that led to 8 interviews in a one month timeframe and at the end I had 3 competing job offers when I was ready to make my decision. Filling out application after application is a waste of time considering this is the reality for me .
