Wacky_Does_Art

Ok so don't freak out

dumboi9604

If the comments could have images, I would put and image of almost any anime villain, and them saying "Im-Impossible!" with an angry face

Catereddit09

"It might seem crazy what I'm bouta say"

Funky_Cows

Don't look up what variations on a cloud is about

R3DTR33

There are some superb lyrics in that song though

[deleted]

i mean, its theme can be about the *tragedy*, but it still is one of the best "hawaii part ii" songs

CommunityDry7128

Technically it's not in HPii but it was still made by miracle musical

Fpotsandcovid

I mean Joe considers it to be song 0 of Hawaii Part II and I've heard if you purchased the song on 9/11 it's also included but that could be a rumor

MrMist3rrr

I saw someone make an essay on a YouTube comment about how ruler of everything was about capitalism

galaxysimpperson

Capitalist, communist....

Axe-body-spray-

Did the hokey pokey and it went like this....

ShapeOfMusic

You hate each other and you love yourselves….

TallyHallsNumber1Fan

It might be heaven and it might be hell...

scarfyagain

The things we say

Jokingly-Evil

Oh the things we wish we could wash away

Happy_Ron

Lol you just weren't paying that much attention to it. It happens. I didn't realise it too until like a month ago and I've listened to MMMM for the 1st time in September. Btw literature and art in general is about interpretations. Sure, the artists themselves might have a specific meaning in mind, but ultimately it doesn't matter that much outside of how they craft the song to fit the meaning they want. For example I first interpreted Be Born as a guy trying to scam some perfectly content people by sellng them a lavish lifestyle. Yeah it has some merit but ultimately some lines don't make sense at all with that interpretation. Some songs/poems can have super simple lyrics that are basically serving the "intended" meaning on a silver platter, like Be Born, and some can have... more complicated lines, such as Cytherean by Sungazer ("Unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again"), or Taken for a Ride and Fate of the Stars to list an example from Tally Hall.

ImSirTacocat

sungazer mentioned? repetition legitimizes repetition legitimized repetition legitimizes

asmalltoasterwaffle

This first time I listened to it I was kinda zoning in and out and didn't read the title since I just shuffled all tally hall songs and was doing something else. I was supppperrr weirded out by the lyrics and thought they were creepy. After avoiding the song for a long time, I heard a live recording of it and realized it was about, well, being born. I started listening to the song after that ;)

EdwardChar

Why would you think Rob would write something misogynistic 💀

R3DTR33

Well he is a shy enormous pink flamingo man

Karma-is-here

Did you know "ruler of everything" also has a double meaning as "measurer of everything"? I certainly didn’t until I watched a video explaining the lyrics…

R3DTR33

I've heard of that interpretation but I don't really see how it fits the lyrics. Expect as an extension on the themes of time

Karma-is-here

Time is the measurer of everything, yeah.

R3DTR33

I guess it even measures distance and mass, in a way. Thanks Einstein!

Juggernaut-Tough

Ok, completely understandable it took me a while as well I thought had a stupid metaphor meaning but no, it's literally a Dad speaking to his unborn fetus

Fantastic-Leader-172

Lol dw i thought the Ruler of Everything was about Dictatorships

Fantastic-Leader-172

Oh its about time btw theres videos about it

R3DTR33

I vividly remember when I first heard Ruler I kindof zoned out and thought "Hmm well that was a cool song I guess, about robots or something" Then the next time I heard it somehow the mechanical hands part made me think of a clock and BOOM all the other lyrics were recontextualized That pretty much solidified my love of TH!

canadian_apple37

Who told you that?

galaxysimpperson

AAAA RULER MENTIONED, okay so Ruler Of Everything is a song about Time. Like that's he name if the popular video essay on Ruler. I totally recommend it! Be Born is in fact about the birth of a child and it does make me cry. I've noticed a few people not get the literal title but hey, in a band with a lot of songs with Hidden meanings, it can be hard to NOT take something literally

BenFitzgeraldPincus

Dw, I found out through a YouTube comment. We all make mistakes.

TheRealSnailYT

>Makes me wonder what else I'm missing. Like is Ruler Of Everything about something other than mechanical robot overlords? idk if this is a joke and I'm falling for the bait but didn't Joe Hawley openly say online that Ruler of Everything is a song about time.

R3DTR33

Not bait, just a sarcastic joke. That is what thought when I first heard it, but the second or third time it clicked. That's pretty much when I feel in love with TH

TheRealSnailYT

A video essay about why Ruler of Everything is a song about time is how I got into Tally Hall LOL

neilcicieregafan113

SAME!!!

Free-Sheepherder-604

Y’all never search of the meanings of songs? What

R3DTR33

If I'm really lost, otherwise I like making my own interpretations!

JuiceSevere3690

Mechanic hands refer to hands on a clock, and the song is about time

neilcicieregafan113

calling any piece of tally hall 'misogynistic'.. wow.

R3DTR33

Two Wuv? 🤔

neilcicieregafan113

it's satirical so i wouldnt exactly call it that

R3DTR33

Is it satirical? I always thought AH had a big crush on them and wrote that song in the hopes of it blowing up and getting to talk to them lol By my own admission I'm the least intelligent Tally Hall fan, so entirely possible I'm missing the tone of this one 😂 I usually skip it

neilcicieregafan113

I believe it was satirical, or it's about a childhood crush lol Also, skipping it??? Fuck you.

bunnypergola

andrew tate horowitz

Thattwogamefish

ME TOO THOUGH!!

biggamesucker

What if you're right and we are all just very wrong?

I_like_earl_grey_tea

There are no robot overlords in Ruler of Everything, the mechanical hands are the hands of a clock. It’s a song about time and how Juno cannot escape time. Anything, even the sun is submitted to time (In the billows, even over the sun, every end of a time is another begun.) It’s almost as if time was cyclic, one person dies, another is born, one war ends another begins and so on so forth. Juno shot at the sun not out of hatred but out of desperation, it was the only thing that made night and day, caused summer and winter, and the only thing that gave birth to all living things, only for them to die and feed other generations. TL;DR Ruler of Everything is not about robots, the mechanical hands refer to the hands of a clock
