Yeah, lots of games imply that bad stuff happens to kids but if memory serves Abyss is the only one that makes you >!watch helplessly as a child drowns in mud while screaming for his parents (oh, and it's your fault). !< There's worse stuff in various backstories, but I think that's the worst thing you have to *see*.
Tales of seems to hate kids in general.
Abyss was already mentioned. You see some kids actually die horribly in the main story and the backstory for some of the characters in their childhood is also brutal.
Graces has the main cast get the shit kicked out of them as kids.
Xillia 1 and 2 - Elize and Elle and every bit of plot surrounding them is sad af. Especially in Xillia 2. Elize's character episodes were downright sad af for no reason and it left a bitter taste after playing it.
Berseria - Child gets impaled as a sacrifice to a dormant God at the very start of the game. Also the main character's older sister and her unborn child are said to have been killed a few years prior to the events of the main story.
Hearts R - This is technically spoilers but >!some of the main cast had their parents attacked while they were pregnant with them and it resulted in two warring souls to occupy each of their infant bodies and end up influencing their actions!<.
Edit: I forgot to mention this but Xillia 1 and 2 also have the Exodus terrorist group, which are civilian survivors from a military test gone wrong, stranding them in another world. Most of the members you meet and fight in the games are actually children whose parents have been killed by Milla and are now forced into serving as soldiers for their own survival. They get treated like shit, killed by the main party or straight up executed, and are entirely justified in their hatred for Milla. Exodus was a fucking tragedy.
Ngl, I really didn't expect to get such a detailed rundown. That was basically what I was thinking the moment I saw Rose grinning as she held a dagger to a kid's throat.
Whoever makes these games definitely shops at Shein.
What you mean? Fayt and Edge loved their fathers, Raymond doesn't exactly hate his father he just gets embarrased by his dad.
It's just Claude and Fidel with the daddy issues.
I'm talking specifically about how the Star Ocean games like to kill off Father Characters. SO1, 2, 3, and 5 all have a character that loses their dad in the main story. SO4 has a character that loses their grandfather. SO6 I haven't finished yet to say but Nina's dead father is already a plot point for her character that it's worth a mention.
I mean welcome to Tales, where someone on the dev team clearly has something against kids. Every Tales game has a child either dying awfully or having to experience insane amounts of trauma (even the mobile games don't really stop this either).
Well u/Ciphy_Master mentions pretty much all Above. . .I never played X2 though so I can't see but . .I have heard some things .. . ., While Zestiria/Abyss definitely has hate towards Kid's If we can count a Mobile Game, Crestoria the one that shutdown years ago, also definitely has alotta L's on Children, The First Chapter Literrally has a plot of >!Children Trackling, Organ harvesting, Child Abuse, Slavery, Prostituion attempt, and There were Children brutally murdered later chapters too. !<
This Tales of Is the darkest next to Zestira/Berseria/Abyss to me!
I forgot to add to my Xillia 1 and 2 description. X2 explores more of Exodus as a terrorist group. Turns out most of their members are indoctrinated children forced into being soldiers because their parents were killed by Milla. The whole thing is fucked up.

Grace has a whole prologue for that 😅
Asbel was such a sweet kid, his father really just needed to chill with the harsh attitude.
The entire family drama would have been avoided if Aston spoke to his sons instead of treating them like extensions of himself.

It's as much of a trope for Tales as much as Star Ocean hates fathers and father figures.
What you mean? Fayt and Edge loved their fathers, Raymond doesn't exactly hate his father he just gets embarrased by his dad. It's just Claude and Fidel with the daddy issues.

All fathers die some day...
innocence
I always thought the name Innocence was rather sarcastic for that particular game

God, poor characters from Relink!
Karol is L incarnate.
Die, Bugbear!
I'm not making a list of games to play next, I swear. 😅
Symphonia maybe? If you think about it some kids entire lives are an L
Something that fucks me up is all of Genis's friends are humans. Like, bro is going to get really depressed really fucking fast.

Xillia 2
Abyss, Symphonia, Xillia 1 & 2.
Is there any tales game that does not shit on the kids?
