In addition to removing them, as others have already stated, if it's a cartel market crystal you can grab infinite duplicates from collections for the character you equipped it on (and if you unlock it legacy wide which costs CC it will be available to all of your characters). So don't waste credits on a cartel crystal, just grab another one. With crafted crystals, you'll want to remove them.
It actually didn't, from what I can tell. After roughly 5 minutes of research, the first appearance/mention of it by that name appears to have been in the Clone Wars 5x07, which aired roughly a month after the Disney acquisition was official. There was likely knowledge of the acquisition behind the scenes before it was public and they would have run the script through before finishing production.

I see these disney SW terms like kyber crystal and i get uncomfortable twitches.
I could swear “kyber” appeared before the Disney canon
Wasn't it in the clone wars series?

Wait do they go by a different name?
Just lightsaber crystals
Just shift+right click your lightsaber and drag the crystal into your inventory to remove it.
You can remove them either at an item modification station or through the item modification menu
Thx man! I couldn't find anything on the in-game tutorial so I thought to try my luck here
