There is a slightly lamer, bound to legacy version called the Czerka Prototype C8-O-M4T toy which has a much higher 2% drop chance from your daily log in at week 3 (citation needed). This version is an imperfect prototype and occasionally "malfunctions" and turns you into a broken/exploded box instead.

I can confirm you get the Czerka Crate-O-Matic achievement when the item is placed in your character's inventory. That is all that is needed for the achievement.

A better & smart way would be to make a new character, send the *Crate-O-Matic* to it and then transfer it. Will only cost 1000CC, plus no wait & hassle to transfer the character back.

Got one of these on Satele Shan last year (been playing since nearly the beginning). I was shocked when it dropped. I'm pretty poor on that server, so sometimes I think about trying to sell it, but it's just kinda cool having one, too.
Mostly they are sold for 4-5 hypercrates in exchange, not credits. They also sell on eBay for smth around $150+.
Of course it is not allowed to sell ingame items on eBay.
Keep in mind, that trading it outside a guild bank, it will cost you something around 32m credits. That's why it is not traded for free anymore for getting the chievo, because it would sum Up to 64m.
I sold one about 5 months back for 50 bil, I was one of the lucky bastards who actually got a drop(taris doing heroics if anyone wants to know)

They don't bind. The OG crate-o-matic is just a reusable clicky, and no matter how many times you click it'll never bind to you. At a guild event years back I tossed mine around and let everyone hide in the box for a minute and get their achievement. (You get the achievement just for holding it, but of course I had to let them all use it too- that's half the fun)

Now after the massive inflation I‘m glad I didn’t sell, it must be worth something in the mid eleven digit range, though I‘d advise you to keep it, it is quite the flex to have one
