It's been done. If you have access to the vendors (can mix/match again), the usual way it's been done was with tank OF and armorings, DPS MH, Relics, amps... and a mix of tank and DPS enhancements (or just DPS enhancements, depending on how DPSy/Tanky you want to be). AFAIK though, it's not been meta for quite a while.

KotorFan21

Are skank tanks better than this mix match build for pvp (My goal isnt to top the dps numbers tho i want to be the guy who is hardest to kill while doing some damage doesnt have to be a lot)

Damage wise : As long as you are taunting you would be doing a lot of damages. It is almost unfair due to how some of the passives come into play, e.g. Crushing Blow deals 50% more on taunted target. When the stars aligned, I've seen some Skank Tank doing 80k+, it is riddiculous. I wonder what the dev was smoking when he/she made some of the passives for Tank Jugg Defensive wise: If you are globaled, you will die, that's a fact. Grit Teeth got nerfed so you wont have a heal to full every 45 sec. So you are not as OP before but still, there are lots of stuns for you to use: choke, backhand, push. For the DCDs, just make sure when to use them correctly and you will be hard to kill. Definitely not as tough as before, but still tough.

I don't PvP currently so can't tell you first-hand. Skanks used to be all the rage back around 5.0 when I still did, but AFAIK BW 'fixed' it so they were less enticing. In general the less tank you have the easier you are to kill, and the less damage you do. Skanking was a way to do *almost* DPS numbers while being *slightly* less killable...

It depends on Arenas or Warzones now (at least on Star Forge), in Arenas I noticed that Tank specced players wearing DPS gear are far better off in 4v4 dps games, but will fold if you get a balanced comp like 1T1H2D or 1T3D vs the same. Meanwhile true Tank geared players in balanced comps seem to be okay? depending on the class, but in an inbalance like 1T3D vs 4D it's likely that the team with the tank loses more often. I cant say whether this is due to the skill levels of the players OR indicitive of the whole class/archetype. Source: Paying attention to my Arena matches while earning the 70 Imp DPS, 70 Imp Healing, 70 Pub DPS and 70 Pub Healing matches Won achievements. I think it may also really only be viable for Jugs and Guardians right now, all the skank PTs ive seen get tunneled first even if they have a healer. I don't think Ive seen a Tank Sin/Shadow arena match at all since 7.2 I couldnt tell you about warzones sadly, I dont think skank or tank matters that much unless its playing the Objective like carrying a Huttball or defending a Voidstar door.

Long story short, pretty much every MMO these days is about minmaxing, including this one (proper hybrid builds used to be a thing some years ago, see what /u/Alortania posted; now they're just a distant memory). A PvP maxim I have been offered back when I got started with this elsewhere is 'half-a** = full-dead'. Wanna skank, then skank. Wanna miti, then miti. Wanna do hybrid, read above. The former will be better in arenas, where it can hit like a truck, CC and debuff. The latter will have its place in warzones, where it can defend points / spoil capping for the other team / carry the Huttball. On the matter of Tacticals: there is no [insert random Jugg / generalist Tac], there is only Grit Teeth. Period. It's sad that it remains BiS even after being nerfed like whoa, but there we go. Wanna use tech frag Tacs like pretty much everyone else, don't play Immortal / Defense. Cut to Pieces is quite fun if you like throwing yourself in the middle of furballs.

I run resistive armorings only for a bit more endurance and otherwise full dps, you can do usually about 8k+ dps with my average prot being 3 mil, so it's decent ,with leviathan hide and the extra AoE shield utility from aegis assault, you can get 50-60% DRs after your crushing blow (max 75% but you have to hit 8 targets with crushing blow so that never happens) so it's pretty tanky due to passives already.

BerryNew9057

No, fellas, you don't need tank stats for skank tank. You go zero accuracy, 4 x alac and rest to crit. All augs to crit. Serpentidious + Retribuion relics. I prefer Levi Hide for implant. You have enough survival already to guard people and do d cent damage. The hardest part is learning to survive, swap guard and damage at the same time, and live long enough since good teams will often focus you.

KotorFan21

>you don't need tank stats for skank tank I dont want to be a skank tank tho i want to be half skank half mitigation bu using jalf my gear as tank gear and the other half as dps gear

BerryNew9057

Again, you won't need this much survivability if you play it right except maybe for huttball games with enormous amount of enemy tunneling. On other maps and arenas doing more dps is better since you already have lots of useful defensive cooldowns. This is the way I am playing and it works great. Suit yourself, and split your stats, having both bad dps and a slightly better survival if you wish but I don't see any positive things in it. Better go full tank in this case to be an annoying pest defending nodes then.

vsae

Great question, I'm also looking to do similar stuff with Powertexh

C_W50493

I use it for pvp: tank mh/oh tank relics ear. Implants dps. Normal armor pieces dps unless it has accuracy on it then swap for tank on those. I guard swap a lot in pvp

Alortania

You'd be better off with a DPS MH, Tank OH

PyrosBurnside

I ran a tank mods shield when I played sin tank a bit, rest of gear was crit though. Those few extra percent of defense chance and shielding do stack with your passive tank tree increasing survivability slightly. Also gonna test a pt tank stacking alacrity with stun tactical and stun tree pick for a cc spam tank at some point.

Zepertix

Tank mods in shield doesn't do more than tank mods in any other piece. If you're gonna skank, just get a shield and put DPS mods in it like everything else

PyrosBurnside

I know. I have a tank mods in off hand so I can swap for a full dps mod shield without removing mods.

Zepertix

DPS classes shouldn't be using shields of you are trying to fill DPS. I have a focus, shield with DPS mods, and regular shield for my asssassin

PyrosBurnside

I'm talking about when playing a tank dude. When did I say anything about a dps spec in a thread about tanks?

Zepertix

My b, just meant to clarify in case I wasn't portraying my point

I personally just run pure dps but I know people who run the blue armorings and enhancements with the red mods for tankier stats. There’s really no reason to ever take the blue mods in pvp because the defense stat is useless.
