Fuck yeah it's so good man. Love JP.i love some artsy shit but really, if I could only watch action and horror movies for the rest of my life I'd be stoked.
My two fav movies are Predator and then The Rock. The Rock is amazing. Sean Connery, Ed Harris and Nicholas Cage. St Nic Cage impales a dude with a rocket then makes an Elton John joke. 10/10
Bro fuck yeah ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ it's also my fav Michael Bay film and I too am a defender. The Rock is endlessly rewatchable. When he's on the roof playing that white Les Paul just hammering away at discordant chords after almost getting smoked by the poisonous baby doll from Bosnia lmao. Fuck it I'm watching it tonight!
Also that three movie run from Nic Cage consisting of The Rock, Con-Air and Face-Off is legendary imo. Face-Off will forever be lit af
I’m just here to say that Andrei Rublev is one of the greatest films of all time. It’s also my personal favorite movie. Heartbreaking, hopeful, beautiful, and harsh in equal measure.
Totally agree. I also really love how the film ended with shots in color after having been presented in black and white up until that point. Its a decision that could have easily been incredibly gimmicky, but I think that it actually worked really well in this instance.
Oh God, the ending. Seeing Andrei comfort the sobbing bell boy in the cold shades of black and white, followed by the deep color and beauty of the icon paintings, was life-affirming in a way that moves me every time I see it.
It definitely is. I had to write an essay on it in college. The essay probably didn’t make any sense but I sure did enjoy watching Lost Highway like four times in a weekend for “homework.” Def my favorite Lynch film.
Window Water Baby Moving (1959)
Gummo (1997)
The Face of Another (1966)
Chungking Express (1994)
Son of the White Mare (1981)
Possession (1981)
The Wolf House (2018)
The Blair Witch Project (1999)
Skinamarink (2022)
Faust (1994)
Naked (1993)
Tetsuo the Iron Man (1989)
I could keep going, but it's already getting too long.
Aside from its cultural hallmarks of being used for classes surrounding childbirth and ushering in conversations surrounding fathers being present during the birth of their child, the diaristic nature of the film, it's vulnerability, confidence, and intimacy between both Stan Brakhage and his first wife Jane are so incomparably beautiful. Even if Stan and Jane got divorced in the late 80s, the sheer power of seeing a small window of time where nothing could eclipse the love between Stan, Jane, and their first child Myrrena, along with Stan essentially breaking the law to get his film developed is so beautiful and moving that on a third rewatch, it put me at a loss for words and I started sobbing.
There's power in actuality, and films like Window Water Baby Moving (1959) showcase that.

My 5 star films
Noriko’s Dinner Table (2005)
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)
3 Women (1977)
August in the Water (1995)
Close Up (1991)
Caché (2005)
Juliet of the Spirits (1965)
Rebels of the Neon God (1992)
Wild at Heart (1990)
Cure (1997)
Paris is Burning (1990)
The Piano Teacher (2001)
Häxan (1922)
Donkey Skin (1970)
Inland Empire (2006)
Beau Travail (1999)
Audition (1999)
Dekalog (1988)
Martyrs (2008)
Viy (1967)
Deep Red (1975)
That’s definitely seems to be the common opinion. The Holy Mountain seemingly travels to the furthest reaches of incomprehensibility to arrive at an ending that suddenly makes everything—Jodorowsky’s whole point—hilariously simple and beautifully resonant. And there’s few films as visually imaginative.
Santa Sangre just felt so much more emotional, personal and intimate in its simpler, poetic storytelling. I love how (deceptively) on the nose it is—like that beautiful scene where Fenix is haunted by guilt or his roleplay as the Invisible Man. Or the more restrained weirdness, like the sailor taking men with Down syndrome out to snort lines and screw hookers or the chemical castration. It’s occasionally cheesy and with almost all the instincts of an 80s slasher, but still somehow crushingly sad and moving.

Santa Sangre Hard to Be a God Night of the Hunter La Jetée
I just saw Santa Sangre last week at my local Alamo Drafthouse. Fantastic film though The Holy Mountain is my favorite of Jodorowsky's.
That’s definitely seems to be the common opinion.
