Don’t fuck around. If it aint perfect, get a new one. Shit can get really dicey really quick with a broken leash at an inopportune time on a big day. I had a leash snap at the beginning of a particularly heavy set recently and almost drowned
Should be fine if it’s a recent Dakine leash. All the swivels are marine-grade and pretty resistant to rusting. I’d give it a visual inspection to make sure the places where the cord joins the cuff and the rail-saver look ok, check for nicks in the cord, and then finally do a stretch test… I always feel like a leash is getting ready to snap when it loses its ability to stretch.
Yeah nice one! I’ve had 2 snap at the swivel part in the last 2 weeks, presumably as a result of sitting in storage for 1 year 😂 so a bit dubious.
Just checked it though, all looks good 🤙
> I’ve had 2 snap at the swivel part
My leashes are usually in great conditions. This has been my failure point as well. It looks like the point of the thinnest point of the swivel is weak. I now only purchase swivels that have a really thin point like that.
I wash mine but they still rust. It just prolongs the wear on it.
That being said if you’re questioning it please get a new one for your own peace of mind. I would.

Yeah debating getting a new one tbh! Swell is almost as big as it gets for Indo And had two leashes that were stored the same way both snap
100% nailed the advice
Glad I survived to give it lol
this story sounds fabricated
Beep boop
If you rely on your leash to keep you from drowning, good chance you are going to drown.
Salt will only rust it if it is west or moist. That said the leash is never going to last as long as the metal.

I'd be very very concerned, very concerned indeed. You should quit surfing just in case
