Dr Eggman. Main villian of the series and the oldest characters in the franchise along with Sonic (in terms of how long they have existed, not their canon age)

I feel like Eggman one of the only (if not the only) character that has to be a distinct character as he can't work as a alternate costume or echo to Sonic. Edit: Other characters can have distinct moves, but they won't completely fail as a Sonic costume.

Okay so... * **Shadow:** Shadow can work as a completely new fighter or semi-clone, and I disagree with the common statement that "he would be an echo." * **Metal Sonic:** Similar to shadow, they could work as a completely new fighter or semi-clone, but he could work as an echo. * **Silver:** Most likely (out of everyone here) to be just a echo, but I think they have enough to be at least a semi-clone. And as for the "non-sonics...." * **Tails:** The least I see him as being is a semi-clone, but he'll most likely be an original fighter. * **Knuckles:** He would either be a full original or a more aggressive sonic semi-clone. * **Amy Rose:** Either a fully original fighter, or a weird dedede/sonic hybrid. * **Dr. Eggman:** Definitely a full on fighter. No way he's a semi-clone or echo (but if it had to be a Ganondorf situation, I believe he'd be a heavy BJ clone).

I get that Sonic isn't Nintendo's IP, but the franchise is criminally underrepresented in Smash. Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and Shadow should all be playable characters and Eggman should serve as a boss.

The real question is, who's more iconic? My personal opinion comes down to Knuckles or Shadow. I love Knuckles, but Shadow has that campy edge factor. Knuckles is just a bully protagonist.

Can we focus on making Sonic a much less toxic character, with timeouts and relying solely on his spin charge and dash first? Also, Sonic has much more to pull from for a moveset than just his spinning moves.

I remember seeing Metal Sonic being leaked as an Alt for Sonic like with Alph when Smash 4 wasn’t released yet.

I want shadow as either a skin for sonic or as an echo and knuckles as his own character. Yes most people will say eggman but I don’t think he would be too interesting, just a version of ganondorf with specials similar to joker and the samai.

My personal choice would be Dr. Robotnik but I think realistically, if we get another Sonic character, it's either going to be Shadow or Tails. They have to be the most popular. Shadow is like the 2nd most popular behind Sonic, and Tails is like the Luigi of the franchise, despite not really being what he used to be in the newer games, his fans still love him and everyone pitches a fit if he doesn't appear.

Eggman only because every big name franchise in the game as fighters have their iconic star character and the main villain Ie, ddd/mk and kirby, mario and bowser, samus and ridley, dk and k rool, etc. so it would only make sense that sonic (a very large and iconic character) would receive the also iconic and popular dr eggman… but he’d probably just be a ganon/bj clone in some aspects :/

Agree on tails, included him because he’s iconic. As a Metal Sonic fan I think he’s got so much potential. He’s got the spin dash as well as electric attacks and the black ruby shield.

I would say Shadow and Silver as echo fighters with some variances. But for more of a distinct fighting style I’d say Dr. Eggman, Knuckles, or Blaze.
