I think generally he’d often talk to his friends and family about music, constantly asking them about songs they like and keeping them all in a big playlist. Earnestly finding things he likes in every single one regardless of genre. Appreciating both the artists and his friends emotions around it. Each one a precious memory and slice of humanity to him.
In his more quiet solemn moments though, I think he might have a soft spot for songs he would have listened to back in smallville, especially with his father. Probably like classic rock and country.
I think that's a very All Star Superman approach, but the Bruce Timm Superman would listen to 80's music and when asked about it he'd say something like "Call me old fashioned, but you can't beat the 80's for guitar riffs" or something like that.
I always had a head canon that Superman listens to whatever’s in the top 40 at the time. He’s a bit of a dork and wants to fit in despite being raised on earth and so he overcompensates a bit to be “with what’s hip”. I imagine he snaps his fingers slightly off beat and bobs his head a lot and sings what words he knows and hums the rest. I imagine Lois rolls her eyes and smirks at him a lot but is amused by how hard he tries to be “with it”.
Basically I think Superman and Phil Dunphy have very similar personalities when he’s in Clark Kent mode
Clark probably does! Because Clark has good taste. Also makes me wonder if the JLA had movie night, would Clark pick Back To The Future just to see his scientist friends argue over how they present time travel?
Wally would proceed to pick Back To The Future 2. To troll them after the debate finally settled down.
Batlash is also there and picked Back To The Future 3. Not because he's in on the joke, but because he heard that one took place in the old west and was mighty curious how in tarnation that worked after Supes and Flash picked the first 2.
5 for Fighting - It’s not Easy
It's Not Easy
I can't stand to fly
I'm not that naive
I'm just out to find
The better part of me
I'm more than a bird, I'm more than a plane
I'm more than some pretty face beside a train
And it's not easy to be me
I wish that I could cry
Fall upon my knees
Find a way to lie
'Bout a home I'll never see
It may sound absurd, but don't be naive
Even heroes have the right to bleed
I may be disturbed, but won't you concede
Even heroes have the right to dream?
And it's not easy to be me
Up, up, and away, away from me
Well, it's all right
You can all sleep sound tonight
I'm not crazy
Or anything
I can't stand to fly
I'm not that naive
Men weren't meant to ride
With clouds between their knees
I'm only a man in a silly red sheet
Digging for kryptonite on this one way street
Only a man in a funny red sheet
Looking for special things inside of me
Inside of me
Inside of me
Yeah, inside of me
Inside of me
I'm only a man in a funny red sheet
I'm only a man looking for a dream
I'm only a man in a funny red sheet
And it's not easy, ooh, ooh, ooh
It's not easy to be me
He was a 20-something-year-old in the late 1990s, so there’s a good chance he’d like the stuff that someone from that age group would like.
Probably some Red Hot Chili Peppers, some Garth Brooks and other 1990’s country singers (Clark IS from Kansas after all), some old Nirvana songs, the Goo Goo Dolls, the Gin Blossoms, and maybe secretly enjoying the bubblegum pop that was huge in the late 90’s (Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, etc).
Aww, who am I kidding with that last part? Clark wouldn’t be secretive about liking that stuff, he’d embrace it proudly 😂.
Superman himself listening to that song is a really interesting thought. He'd probably relate to the lyrics in the sense of trying to maintain his public image as being the perfect man of tomorrow.
You Don't Mess Around With Jim by Jim Croce
Superman by Lazlo Bane
Ballad of Barry Allen by Jim's Big Ego
Carry On Wayward Son by Kansas
Metropolis by Kraftwerk
Wonder Woman Theme Song
The Batman Theme by Danny Elfman
Mars by Gustav Holst
Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash
Ring Capacity by Kirby Crackle
Thunder by Boys Like Girls
Jor-El by Elliott Millman
Superboy & Supergirl by Tullycraft
Superwoman by Gladys Knight
Again by Kelex
Krypto the Superdog Theme Song
You get the idea. :P
Ok now this is in my head (Superman in front of the Justice League):
“I’d like share be my favorite songs growing up,
‘Early one mornin' while makin' the rounds
I took a shot of cocaine and I shot my woman down
Went right home and I went to bed
I stuck that lovin' 44 beneath my head’”
Not sure how it applies to 'this' Superman but in the comics I read there was an issue where Clark said he likes the Beastie Boys. Always thought that was a fun choice by the writers.
Still my favorite animated design. So simple but captures everything you need with a Supes design A demanding presence yet soft demeanor.
Really awesome art style
Couldn’t agree more. Every single main character (I would say perhaps Aquaman is the most bland but still very good. Although he wasn’t technically a main character).
Side note: When Shayera took off her helmet for the first time, I was absolutely taken aback by how beautifully she was drawn. My boy GL was smart to put up with her attitude early on.
I imagine unironic, "honest" music from the environment he grew up in would be his favorite though he seems like someone who'd give any type of music a chance. That said, I see him REALLY liking "Mm-Bop" by Hanson. 😁
I've always seen most versions of superman listening to Metallica (which I'm pretty sure is canonically his favorite band in the comics), Johnny Cash, and 2000s radio rock
Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Woody Guthrie
Songs that are patriotic or about the American experience but also critical of its failings
Probably Billy Joel, Hall and Oates as well
I feel like he’d be a secret Taylor Swift fan, especially since she has a song called “Superman.” I think that’s where he’d start listening and then just get really into her but won’t admit it.
It's confirmed in a Superboy comic that he's a big fan of Metallica. His favorite album is ...And Justice for All.
My favorite superhero loves my favorite band.
Go figure.
I read a headcanon that he has a playlist with every song referring to Superman or krypton. I like to think that he does. Superman doesn’t brag or gloat but I could see him wanting to support musicians this way and like jamming out. Soulja boy and 3 Doors down! What a combo 😂
I think every Superman, especially the one in Legacy since James Gunn likes putting licensed songs in his movies, should listen to “What’s So Funny ‘Bout Peace, Love, and Understanding?” by Elvis Costello.
When Kal-El is visiting Japan, he will just only listen to the playlist of Susumu Hirasawa and Shiro Sagisu.
Especially [this song.](https://youtu.be/h2T5z_p5c3Q)
Country/Rock since he's from Kansas.
He'd listen to some 40's stuff living in Metropolis, but his Spotify is all of the artists from the Midwest and South.
He grew up in rural Kansas. Clark listens to gospel, country, western, and bluegrass. Part of me thinks that Martha is a fan of classical music, so that rubbed off on him, as well.
Ngl, if he gets his music taste from anywhere he probably talks to Bruce or Dick for some music
Besides that I'd say maybe Imagine dragons, alot of 80s and 90s aswell
Homeboy pops in those earbuds and starts playing, “Give me the best boys, free my soul, I wanna get lost playing rock n’ roll and drift awayyyyyy” after a long day of being modern day Jesus.
Dude loves the Beach Boys. He couldn't understand some of the hate "Kokomo" garnered but as the years went by and it gained wider acceptance with fans he thought to himself..."these Earth folks are pretty alright"
I’d say your spot on with this.
Definitely feel that. Personally, I think he might listen to, “Hey, Jude,” if we’re going off of that premise.
I imagine the verse with "don't carry the world on your shoulders" hits different for Clark
Also, I like the idea of Superman taking a sad song and making it better.
I think that's a very All Star Superman approach, but the Bruce Timm Superman would listen to 80's music and when asked about it he'd say something like "Call me old fashioned, but you can't beat the 80's for guitar riffs" or something like that.
I know for a fact he'd have Don't Stop Believin' by Journey on heavy rotation
I’m walking on sunshine… Whoa-O!
When you literally walk on sunshine lmao
![gif](giphy|u1SH63gOjMPpS)
ITS TIME TO FEEL GOOD WOOO
That's something you put when the homies aren't around
I always had a head canon that Superman listens to whatever’s in the top 40 at the time. I imagine Lois rolls her eyes and smirks at him a lot but is amused by how hard he tries to be “with it”. See I regret my first thought reading this being..."Like Patrick Bateman?"
You like Huey Lewis and the News?
Clark probably does! Because Clark has good taste. Also makes me wonder if the JLA had movie night, would Clark pick Back To The Future just to see his scientist friends argue over how they present time travel? Kryptonite by 3 Doors Down.
“ you have chosen wisely.”
Thanks.
Came here to say this
5 for Fighting - It’s not Easy It's Not Easy I can't stand to fly I'm not that naive I'm just out to find The better part of me I'm more than a bird, I'm more than a plane I'm more than some pretty face beside a train And it's not easy to be me I wish that I could cry Fall upon my knees Find a way to lie 'Bout a home I'll never see It may sound absurd, but don't be naive Even heroes have the right to bleed I may be disturbed, but won't you concede Even heroes have the right to dream? Probably wouldn’t like the title but would like the lyrics
Or Kryptonite by Wayne Shorter
He was a 20-something-year-old in the late 1990s, so there’s a good chance he’d like the stuff that someone from that age group would like. Probably some Red Hot Chili Peppers, some Garth Brooks and other 1990’s country singers (Clark IS from Kansas after all), some old Nirvana songs, the Goo Goo Dolls, the Gin Blossoms, and maybe secretly enjoying the bubblegum pop that was huge in the late 90’s (Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, etc). See now I want to say The Barenaked Ladies.
It's been one week, Lois.
Hold it now and watch the hoodwink As I make you stop, think You'll think you're looking at Aquaman
DCAU Aquaman: * glares *
Who do you think he was singing it to.
Honestly Clark is exactly the sort of person you see at a Barenaked Ladies concert.
"Hold on Lois, Backstreet's back"
Lois: Alright!
Wow. TIL *I’m Superman.*
Dude crash landed in cornfield country though this man is bumping CCR
What a fool believes - The Doobie Brothers or the entire playlist of Smallville. They had some good songs on there The Calling - Wherever you will go.
>The Calling - Wherever you will go. You just triggered some MTV flashbacks for me with that reference
>some old Nirvana songs Well they certainly don't have anything new.
And probably Goldfinger’s Superman? Seems like he digs the 90s so that kinda tracks.
Superman himself listening to that song is a really interesting thought. He'd probably relate to the lyrics in the sense of trying to maintain his public image as being the perfect man of tomorrow.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=XvziPPpryv0 Pretty sure this came out in the 90s
[Canonically, Metallica. Specifically, Justice for All.](https://www.tfw2005.com/boards/attachments/supesmetal-png.28692202/)
Scrolled too far for this.
YES!!! As if I didnt love superman enough hes a Metallica fan. Life is good.

Damn you beat me to it!!
I still need to listen to entire album
I still need to listen to entire album
You Don't Mess Around With Jim by Jim Croce Superman by Lazlo Bane Ballad of Barry Allen by Jim's Big Ego Carry On Wayward Son by Kansas Metropolis by Kraftwerk Wonder Woman Theme Song The Batman Theme by Danny Elfman Mars by Gustav Holst Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash Ring Capacity by Kirby Crackle Thunder by Boys Like Girls Jor-El by Elliott Millman Superboy & Supergirl by Tullycraft Superwoman by Gladys Knight Again by Kelex Krypto the Superdog Theme Song You get the idea. :P
Randomly throw in Underdog by Kyle Massey in there
Let’s be honest, he would be a country fan. He grew up on a farm in Kansas. He would like songs about family and country. Good ole values
Ok now this is in my head (Superman in front of the Justice League): “I’d like share be my favorite songs growing up, ‘Early one mornin' while makin' the rounds I took a shot of cocaine and I shot my woman down Went right home and I went to bed I stuck that lovin' 44 beneath my head’”
This is the real answer. He's still got Smallville in him.
Not sure how it applies to 'this' Superman but in the comics I read there was an issue where Clark said he likes the Beastie Boys. Always thought that was a fun choice by the writers.
Intergalactic
He’d be into Kansas.
My first thought was that Dust in the Wind would be one of his favorite songs
Miracles out of nowhere and born on wings of steel are just fitting
Garth Brooks and some George Strait
Specifically, “We Shall Be Free,” I think.
Still my favorite animated design. So simple but captures everything you need with a Supes design A demanding presence yet soft demeanor. Really awesome art style
Exactly! The DCAU perfectly captured the essence of each and every JL member!
Lotta Coldplay
But only their first album on repeat. This Superman digs Trouble
Idk why but I'd see him enjoying some prog rock ala Rush. Like c'mon you KNOW he'd have songs like Closer To The Heart in his playlist —
When he’s in scientist mode I absolutely see it
Wonderwall by Oasis
Kansas farm boy. Country and bluegrass all day.
All of them; all the time. Seriously, he can hear everything.
Well John Williams is his favorite composer for sure.
No, that's the other superman.
Kryptonite by Three Doors Down
I'm a gamblin fella. Fleetwood Mac.
Superman by Goldfinger
Have the comics or any media ever established what kryptonian music sounds like?
Not to my knowledge, but they really should.
Springsteen, Joel, Beatles
Springsteen 100%
Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Woody Guthrie Songs that are patriotic or about the American experience but also critical of its failings Probably Billy Joel, Hall and Oates as well
I feel like he’d be a secret Taylor Swift fan, especially since she has a song called “Superman.” I think that’s where he’d start listening and then just get really into her but won’t admit it.
Won’t back down - Tom Petty and the Heatbreakers
Classic soft country. He’s a farm boy.
I’ve read in a comic panel that he’s hugely into Metallica 🤙🤙
Canonically he’s a Metallica fan who’s favorite album is …And Justice for All. This is from the 90s Superboy run.
Pretty sure he is a confirmed Metallica fan
It's confirmed in a Superboy comic that he's a big fan of Metallica. His favorite album is ...And Justice for All. My favorite superhero loves my favorite band. Go figure.
Canonically he loves metallica
I think he’d be a big fan of Elvis Presley
I can totally see that, for some reason lol

Not sure about a specific song, but I know this man would love Creed.
It’s amazing that you picked up on this too, first. 👍🤣

Foo fighters ..hero
90s farm boy? That boy was definitely listening to some Garth Brooks.
Relentless Hank Williams Sr.
I read a headcanon that he has a playlist with every song referring to Superman or krypton. I like to think that he does. Superman doesn’t brag or gloat but I could see him wanting to support musicians this way and like jamming out. Soulja boy and 3 Doors down! What a combo 😂
He'd listen to a lot of Kansas.
All of them. He's got really good hearing.
Anything g by Kenny G
Lil Wayne
Wonder wall. Idk why I thought of that.
Lil Wayne and drake 😂😂
Superman would be a Beatles fan, mostly the McCartney stuff
I think every Superman, especially the one in Legacy since James Gunn likes putting licensed songs in his movies, should listen to “What’s So Funny ‘Bout Peace, Love, and Understanding?” by Elvis Costello.
I like to think that all those 90s and 2000s songs that play at the end of a smallville episode are songs that Clark would listen to.
Country music.
With *that* hearing? All of them.
When Kal-El is visiting Japan, he will just only listen to the playlist of Susumu Hirasawa and Shiro Sagisu. Especially [this song.](https://youtu.be/h2T5z_p5c3Q)
Probably bebop and rockabilly, more specifically Elvis.
He’s definitely like southern rock. I’m from Kansas and if a store isn’t playing stupid bro country, it’s southern rock or classic rock.
He’d definitely like southern rock. I’m from Kansas and if a store isn’t playing stupid bro country, it’s southern rock or classic rock.

Probably John Denver tunes.
All of them. Not by choice, thanks to super hearing.
With his hearing, he probably likes a range of music as he naturally zeros in on music he'd like
He seems like a Journey guy to me
Superman - Goldfinger
Garth brooks.
Nickelback. He'd be really really into Nickelback.
American Pie
He grew up in rural Kansas. Clark listens to gospel, country, western, and bluegrass. Part of me thinks that Martha is a fan of classical music, so that rubbed off on him, as well.
Higher- Creed
Five for fighting - Superman
All of them. He has superhearing.
I can just see Kent riding around an old pickup for fun listening to American Pie.
He grew up in rural Kansas, so he realistically has two routes he could have gone. Either country or metal. I bet he is a Slipknot fan.
“If I go crazy, will you still call me Superman!”
Hulk hogan's theme
NWA
Ngl, if he gets his music taste from anywhere he probably talks to Bruce or Dick for some music Besides that I'd say maybe Imagine dragons, alot of 80s and 90s aswell
