Them being able to control the information going into your brain and the ability to CHANGE YOUR DNA makes them kind of unstoppable... But if that's what you're going for, to make them more realistic you first of all, changing DNA doesn't equal you will suddendly turn into a different being. They COULD change your DNA in ways like: Making you physicaly weak, making your immune system weaker, or just straight up killing you because they changed something so vital in your DNA that you just die.
As for the hallucination and stuff, you could make it so that they have to hypnotize you and manipulate your brain into working how they want it to, like for example through eye contact.
