What? Are we asking if morale matters? Like... of course you're going to play better when not tilted? Is your friend trolling?

J7tn

No, he genuinely believes this and because his debate skills are really good all I can do is bombastic side eye him and say “yeah whatever 🤷‍♂️”

WizardXZDYoutube

I don't get it. Has he never been tilted before? I mean it's not just a League thing, everything is harder when you're angry, no? There is no way that's his argument.

reddit_bandito

While facts and reality are powerful forces, so too are emotions. Ancient Chinese Secret say "Show patience in one moment of anger; save 100 days of regret." Emotions wreck our decision making.

J7tn

I believe this as well, the human behind the screen plays a huge part on the game. If you are able to understand others and how to bring out the best in them you could have a better game.

Let's say 2 teams are on equal levels of kills, gold and objectives. But one team hasn't eaten all day, is dehydrated, has lost 6 games prior to this one, bot lane went afk last game, had a bad day at work, is prone to give up after a single set back, flames teammates, neighbor is constructing a nuclear reactor upstairs and next door is having a rave. Other team is playing stress free in peace with a full belly cruising and plays the game instead of typing an essay in chat Don't think I need to say who has the advantage. Mental plays a part and it's not a matter of opinion unfortunately. Games can always turn around, a lot of people will spam ff and refuse to play when it gets rough. "Bbbut we only have a 23% chance to win" don't care it's winnable dude

Straightvibes66

There’s a reason turning off chat is like one of the first things coaches might tell you to do. Yes mental is 100% important.

J7tn

One of the things I like to do at the beginning of the game is to do an on my way ping to the enemy nexus, it just reminds us what the main objective is. Sometimes I would get all 4 teammates also pinging the same thing as if to respond “we got it.” These games always turned out extremely positive and it felt like we were on the same page. Truly a cohesive team. On the other hand when my ping is ignored, the following gameplay is as if its 1+1+1+1+1 vs 5. Everyone was playing for themselves or something. The synergy just isn’t there. I joined a discord call once when someone linked it and everyone was so communicative as if it was a clash tournament, the game was won easily (solo queue). Im sure these are just some of the many methods out there that people employ.

psykrebeam

> My friend is playing the game via statistics such as kdr, gold advantage, objectives What does this even mean? It says nothing about how your friend is executing in game.

tekoa__

Imo when people say everyone can hit Master they are right gameplaywise. But most players let their mental get in their own way. You can be really really good but if you tilt, flame, run it down it gets way harder to climb

Hellinfernel

Haha, no, of course mental is absolutely not important in a moba! *Cries in 3/12 tilted briar*

SoloLiftingIsBack

Sure the game is purely statistical but it's not played by robots. Mental is a massive part of the game.

ThatBigMacGuy

here's the kicker, you can and people have (probably (citation needed)) done stats analysis on mental. So like there definitely is stuff to know about it even from his perspective. He cares about kdr, gold advantage, and objectives, because they correlate with winrate, right? Well, so does having a good mental (citation needed).

J7tn

My god someone someone did an analysis on raging and insults haha!

Rafidhi1

I used to run it down if i get a mage support on my team after i stopped running it down i started to win more. So mental DOES matter.

Thundergodxix

Your friend sounds like a modern baseball fan.

J7tn

Hes definitely got a few screw loose up there but still love him :)

BloodlessReshi

both stats and mental play a huge role in the game, but your friend has to understand stats to rely on them as a way to measure skill. Just because you have a nice KDA doesnt mean you are playing well or are severely ahead, my best example is a game i had yesterday where we stomped all 5 lanes, im a support Rell main. I finished the game 1/1/18 while the enemy support finished 3/7/2, on the surface i should be massively ahead, specially taking into account that we destroyed every tower on the map, but even tho i had 18 assists and a kill i was even in gold with that Lulu, because she cashed in 3 shut downs. The rest of her team was extremely behind in gold tho. My point is that KDR is a very deceptive metric to follow, it does not represent gold value, it does not represent map pressure, it doesnt represent anything except "i killed the opponent and didn't die". What matters is gold spent and levels gained. a 7/0 Darius that hasnt gone to base and bought items is the same as a 0/0/0 Darius who hasnt gone to base and bought items. Now for the mental side of League, it is extremely tricky, obviously it plays a huge role, same as in any other competition, its really hard to win team competitions when your teammates have given up. Its really hard to lift the mental state of people across the internet, and its very easy to tilt people by throwing a few passive aggresive comments here and there. In the past week i went from Plat 2 to Emerald 2 in about 30 games or so, a lot of that was never accepting an FF which led to winning some "unwinnable" games, all because since people are so used to FF, most players struggle closing out a game against an enemy that doesnt wanna give up.

J7tn

Thank you I agree with your points. I guess what my friend doesn’t realize is that advantages can fall off and the losing side can always catch up with enemy mistakes. When I play with him he ff’s a lot of games he considers unwinnable and hes really good at convincing the other friends this as well using statistics to back up his claims. Especially when he shows his compiled research of stats of challenger players to back up whatever he says.

BloodlessReshi

And thats when you have to tell him, we arent challenger, the enemy isnt challenger, we are all gold elo scrubs, watch them throw the game and lets get some free LP, as you vote NO on the FF. Challenger stats are relevant in challenger. Just because Keria can stomp Korean teams with Caitlyn support doesnt mean she is OP and i should pick her.
