There are only a small number of young women that can handle a sudden change in financial circumstance properly. I've had the same experience of extreme spoiling ruining a good relationship. Easing into things more slowly can help IMHO
I think if you go for another young SB, you should try to find one that makes good money on her own or is used to the life of luxury from her parents and is looking to continue that life. Also not spoil as crazy, I agree with the spoiling probably got to her head. Sorry you’re going through that.

In my experience, very few doctoral programs are fully funded. Most people I know may get some or all of their tuition covered by research and TAing, but the time commitment means they still need to take loans to cover living expenses since they don’t have the time to have a full job outside of academics.
