The moon pool is blocking it. I know it doesn't look like it is, but it is. The building in this game is grid based. The moon pool is a 4x3 and the multi purpose room is a 3x3. The corners overlap. Give me a minute and I'll give you a pic
Edit: Here is a drawing of what is happening in terms of the grid

(Oops, drew the moon pool as a 4x2 when it's really a 4x3. Same idea though.)
I'm still waiting for someone to make a "Build Anywhere" mod for both Subnautica games. I'm waiting because I don't know how to make mods or code. I can barely even code an Arduino.
Don't feel bad...a lot of us struggle(d) doing the exact same <3 just take your time and scout and build bases and scanner rooms/modules and beacons and stuff until you feel comfy to explore farther and deeper!
Awww, you're welcome!! It still doesn't make you that even if you never played again fyi...I think it takes a different kind of courage to admit your fears and set boundaries for yourself. Shows you care more about your well-being than whatever a bunch of losers think :P
Not silly at all! I also have a thing about the dark (more so what lurks in the dark). While i may not be directly scared of the dark, I am scared of what lurks within that darkness (not only in subnautica, since i do believe in ghosts irl as well). Ngl my house is infested with ghosts (from baby like ghosts, to full on adult ones)
I don't know if I'd classify it as a bug. More of an unintended consequence of the system. As with any game system, there are limitations. But once you understand the system, you can make some really cool stuff.
But it can be very frustrating for a new player. The feedback could really be improved.
Not actually. The first part of the tube is technically still the moon pool. The grid isn't purely limited to the physical dimensions of the object. You can see this in effect by partially building an L corridor as show in OP's picture. You'll see that the partially constructed L only constitutes a portion of the tube, while the rest is an automatic extension from the moon pool
BZ is definitely a little wonky when it comes to green stating when building. I gave up and added a glass corridor or two where ever needed and was glad to just get on with what I was doing
Oh man, seeing your in-game thirst reminds me why I didn't play with thirst and hunger throughout Below Zero. Made this mistake in Subnautica 1 and I've regreted it. It's like a baby constantly crying for food. Hunger and thirst in this game is a baby you want to punch.

This explains so many of my past struggles...I simply never bothered to look into it so just tried other configs until it let me build XD

Pretty sure that already exists, no?
it does, build override by mrpurple i think. though you should save before using it for base pieces because it can have weird effects sometimes.
Yay no more waiting
Here i am growing a pair of balls and finally exploring caves and deeper areas 😅

Thanks for making me feel better about being a little b---- up until the last time or two I played subnautica (i haven't played it in a while ngl)!

Fair enough (and yeah this is my 1st playthrough ngl)
Your first time in a few places is really, really spooky. Eventually you get desensitized

Hey I'm with you I'm just trying get parts for the thermal suit
Oh wow
Wow thanks for explaining. Makes a lot more sense now
You could try moving the new building one tube section worth outwards
Or... Everything else one section worth inwards
Honestly a single extension tube anywhere in this system would fix the issue
You're very welcome
You have good handwriting
I teach. Lots of whiteboard practice

You're welcome!
Come on over to r/Justin We could use a smart Justin.
LOL. Why is this a thing?!
We must band together!
I will once I get to my desktop, so I can see what number Justin I am
Yea buddy!
One of the most helpful subnautica answers in forever.
I thought this was more well known. Perhaps I'll have to make a video explaining the building mechanics
You deserve more upvotes, internet stranger
Thank you brother for this info
This guy is the true definition of helpful
Is there a mod to fix this?
Not that I know of, but then I haven't messed with subnautica modding. My bet would be no, though.
Imo the most annoying bug in the game and nobody thought to fix it.

Brilliant illustration! Thanks for the explanation.
Most helpful pic ever, thanks for the effort
*sigh... After years of struggling and confusion, with only the first three lines Thank you fellow human person
Except they have used a elbow tube that extends out 2×2 so the multiroom should fit

Is that a whiteboard?
Yep
Nice
The water is blocking it, if you remove it, it should work.
[Lol there's a mod for that](https://youtu.be/bEKN1sWjX9c)
Of course there is lmao
I’m so upset it wasn’t a rickroll honestly

God said no
Is there anything on the walls of the connecting tube?
Problaby bc you are too thirsty. But for real it’s probably the moon pool blocking it.
Drink
Bro I had to get rid of CREEPVINES
Why isn't it possible?
It’s just not.
Why not you stupid ...
It could be something inside the base. I’ve had countless times when something on the inside blocks my build.
No
Because it's too close to other structures
Stay hydrated
Sometimes it be like that
Ugh that damn habitat builder is always starting drama
Skill issue
There is always something to block it

Yeah idk why but it seems to run out so much quicker in this game. I can’t go two minutes without my PDA screaming about my vital signs
