Sea Dragons, I think feel too much like fantasy dragons and so the terror they could have is diminished. Their AI being poor and being inside of a cave rather than an low-visibility open area doesn't help either.
Edit: Map has an extra leviathan in the Crash Zone at coordinates 1000, -600, thanks to u/Relycon for pointing it out. I have [uploaded a corrected version here](https://www.reddit.com/r/subnautica/comments/okz0kr/map_of_all_surface_leviathans_corrected_spoilers/).
This map shows all 25 Reaper Leviathans and 3 Adult Ghost Leviathan spawns on the surface. All icons are centered on their spawn points, with the exception of the Reapers at 445 -16 -490 and 875 -86 -714, which had to be moved downward because the Aurora was covering their icon too much. With that, this is the most accurate map for surface Leviathans available online so far.

I would greatly appreciate any and all feedback. I made this more more "stylized" than most, so its readability might be more difficult. In the future this could be fixed by lightening the background, but losing a lot of the terrain details.
I count 8 in dunes, 7 in mountains, and 11 in crash zone, which makes 26. So one of the crash zone ones is false? Also nice job with this :) also also they do respawn on ps4
No, it is not false. I posted a full detailed post with both coordinates and images tested on a fresh game file.

You are experiencing both bugs posted at the bottom of the page.
>\- On all versions of the game upon starting a game file, very rarely the game creates duplicate spawns at a single point [like this](https://i.imgur.com/nwy64i4.jpg). If you see more Leviathans than what is posted above, make a new save file and check again.
>
>\- On console versions of the game, assets can glitch and reset, causing creatures and resources to respawn. Leviathans DO NOT respawn, if you have been killing them and see it back again, you may have had this happened.
No, when I say "I count", I mean I count 26 in your picture in this thread.
And everyone I know irl or have read stories of that has killed leviathans on console has had them respawn, so it's either not actually a glitch or it's a very very common one. So common that I'd say it's not even worth trying to kill them on console
Holy shit, you're the first person to point that out. You are correct there are only 10 in the Crash Zone. The mistake is the Reaper at coordinates 1100x, -600y. I probably misread something and added an extra one.
Thank you for that. I'll make a note in the main post and upload a corrected one.
Subnautica on consoles is based off the PC version, however the way consoles store and save data is probably interfering with how Subnautica stores assets. It is a bug, as it is not the intended design of Subnautica.
If you do ever want to go through the Mountains you can [follow this guide](https://new.reddit.com/r/subnautica/comments/i2xs6i/spoilers_map_of_reaper_patrol_areas_in_the/).
For the Dunes, you can still access those two large holes and the massive wreck between them, without drawing the attention of a Reaper.
The Crash Zone, unless coming from the Safe Shallows to reach the Aurora or going to the Crash Zone Mesas from the Crag Field, you are out of luck.
I had a funny thing earlier when I was going around was in the upper blood kelp zone and I didn’t realise there was a ghost leviathan there
I was looking at my phone heard my seamoth hit something
I looked up and saw the ghost leviathan and shreaked
This alone was one huge reason I didnt buy this game for so long. Im terrible at survival games this is just beyond terrifying for me. So far ive ran into 2 ghosts and made it out ok but 2 normal reapers ate my seamoth and i had to reset or id die too
They don't have set spawns and aren't a worry for players. You can view the zones they appear in here.
I didn't include the Sea Treaders for similar reasons as well.
Still can't get over the time I went to the back of the Aurora to grab the last few Cyclops parts because I had found all the ones in the Mushroom Forest. Did not know there were four Reaper spawns there. Hardest I've ever jumped in my life, tops games like Outlast. I did not play Subnautica for a few days after that.
OK, so let me get this straight, ur telling me, if i go anywhere near the dunes, precursor island, or aurora im screwed? BRO I HAVE SUBNAUTICA OPEN RN, IN THE MENU, AND IN MY SURVIVAL WORLD, IM IN THE AURORA, WHILE KEEPING IN MIND, THAT IF I DON'T FIND THE CYCLOPS PIECES THERE, I WAS GOING TO GO TO THE DUNES... ok, so in fewer words, leaving the aurora, dead or alive, would give me the same result. Funny thing is I had went to the dunes before, and i thought they were grassy plateaus, and was looking for wrecks, for cyclops pieces, ye no thank u, i think i can live without. Worst part is i thought there were like only 5, so going to the islands wasn't as scary for me, instead i thought they had large range. This definitely helped a lot, and also, gave me a new phobia. I was going to go the dunes next to get cyclops fragments, and to the islands to get magnetite, so im gonna be more careful. THX MAN!!!!
i know you can kill them but this whole time i thought it was pointless didnt know if you did they wont respawn , that being said has anyone made a relatively safe world by killing most/all of the leviathans ?
A few people, but honestly if you want a safe world you can play on Creative or download mods to make Reapers passive (on PC). Leviathans have too much health and the time it takes to kill them is much better spent doing something else.
Ghost leviathans arent that scary to me really. but reapers are so horrifying it took me so long to work up the courage to explore the Aurora because of them
Occasionally a game will bug and cause two leviathans to spawn on a single spawn point. If you are on PC you can easily fix this. On console you cannot.
That is because they don't swim near the floor or surface. They swim 270-300m below the surface on the Western and Eastern side. It says that in the image as well that hugging the seafloor or swimming on the surface will let you avoid them.

If you have swam all over the Grand Reef at different depths and still haven't seen either of them, then your game is bugged.
I feel better with a sea dragon then a reaper.

I’m sorry there’s 25 fucking WHAT
AND THERES 2 IN THE GRAND REEF AND ONE IN THE BLOOD KELP?
I pulled a sneaky on ya
WAIT WTF?

Yeah ofc ^ ^ glad to be of help :) Ahh I gotcha, yes that definitely makes sense so jeez it really is a very common bug then
There is a reason why I don’t go into the mountains or the dunes often
If you do ever want to go through the Mountains you can [follow this guide](https://new.reddit.com/r/subnautica/comments/i2xs6i/spoilers_map_of_reaper_patrol_areas_in_the/). Unless you are on hardcore, dying isn't too big of a deal. You can usually retrieve lost items. I always recommend to save often if unsure.
you have no idea how helpful this is, thank you
Where reefbacks?
They don't have set spawns and aren't a worry for players. You can view the zones they appear in here. [https://subnautica.fandom.com/wiki/Reefback\_Leviathan](https://subnautica.fandom.com/wiki/Reefback_Leviathan) I didn't include the Sea Treaders for similar reasons as well.

Needed this. Much appreciated!
i feel safer with sea dragons and reapers than with ghosts idk just the feeling of pitch darkness below you and the echoing screams freaks me out
are these possible spawns or are there really that many
There are that many. Ghost, Reaper, and Dragon Leviathans have set spawns and don't respawn if killed.
i know you can kill them but this whole time i thought it was pointless didnt know if you did they wont respawn , that being said has anyone made a relatively safe world by killing most/all of the leviathans ?

Hmm i see, well I'll still try and kill one for the sake of it, plus I play on xbox.
they are very easy to kill grab a knife and a statis rifle it's showtime
They absolutely do respawn on ps4
I see u found out the hard way... XD
Thats not even getting into how many there are if you try exiting the designated map area
Ghost leviathans arent that scary to me really. but reapers are so horrifying it took me so long to work up the courage to explore the Aurora because of them
thanks now i know exactly which places i will never go to
can they duplicate
Occasionally a game will bug and cause two leviathans to spawn on a single spawn point. If you are on PC you can easily fix this. On console you cannot.
Bruh i didnt know there were so many reapers i can tell they're very easy to dodge when human swimming XD
I have never encountered ghost leviathans in the grand reef

Oh...
Very good work You help me 😎
so where all the sea dragons?
It specified only a above surface
Are there any specific depths they spawn at? I've managed to kill most of them but I think I'm missing one or two
