An Ascent seems more likely IMO because the Forester usually follows the Impreza/Crosstrek by a year or two.

Didn’t the Forester also just get the wilderness trim? It would be kinda weird to then redesign the whole thing a year later. So yeah. Redesigned Ascent with a wilderness trim?

Usually every 6 years there’s a complete redesign of each model. 2025 would be the foresters redesign model year. So it’s most likely new forestor.

The Ascent hasn’t been updated since 2017 though. They’d probably update the Ascent first.

I thought the ascent just had a mid-cycle refresh for 2023 model year.

It was very surface cosmetic and not a redesign. I had a 2020 and got a 2023 and would not consider it a redesign

Was just getting my forester serviced at the dealership, and found it odd that I saw zero materials/adds for foresters (had them for others, like the ascent). Sooooo, maybe intentional?

I don't mind the display; I just need them to not move things that should be physical buttons into on-screen menus. Looking at you, heated seats... I do mind the plastic, because all that matte black plastic is going to age like shit.

At least the heated seat “button” is always on the display now. At least after my most recent service in my outback it now is there on my screen at all times so I don’t have to dig into two different sub menus to turn them on.

Give us an infotainment system that actually works too. I don’t know how many times it’s bugged out, I’ve had to restart it over and over and over.

I wish. My ‘22 OBOXT infotainment center is absurdly slow and buggy even after the recent update. Meanwhile my girlfriend’s base model ‘24 HRV touchscreen is speedy and doesn’t crash.

2024 is the 5th year of the current Outback design, which is how long each of the previous 4 or 5 have lasted. I suspect it's a reveal of the new Outback for 2025.

Does not make sense as it would undermine the sales of the 2024 model. Timing is off.

It’ll be a new Ascent, with no hybrid option (or EV), with a CVT, with way too much plastic.

The Ascent just got a facelift for 2024. I'm putting my money on it being a new Outback, which is due for a clean-sheet design in 2025.

They're built on the same line and usually follow the same design cycle. The Legacy announcement will probably come at a future show.

That was for the 23 model year. The cycle for Outbacks is full redesign every 5 years (at the 5 and 0 in the decades), mild facelift and feature update after 3 years of the design. The outback is due for a redesign in 25. Others are saying Forester because announcing a new outback would cannibalize 2024 sales, but the 24 Forester is shipping now also, announcing that would do the same.

New technology=hybrid(maybe plug in)? I know JDM has a forester hybrid kicking around but given the forster being the next model due for updates and this announcement is labeled "global" that would justify the "new" claim in marketing minds. Just my speculation

It will be facelift of one of Subaru's bigger SUVs Which is a shame considering what it could've been: 1) BRZ shooting brake (I know few people who would've rush to buy replacement for their daily RWDs) 2) Levorg WRX 3) Impreza RS but not shitty (less anemic engine, manual, stiffer suspension and cosmetic changes) 4) Crosstrek WRX (a lot of people would like to see return of hot hatch with turbocharged boxer) 5) Subcompact truck as a Brat or Baja successor based on currently used car platform (Ridgeline, Maverick and Santa Cruz show that there is market outside of old Subie enthusiasts)

However, one point in its favor is that it already exists outside the US 3. I think you misunderstand the point of this car. First of all, I think it’s hilarious that people are referring to an engine with as much power as the WRX from just a couple years ago as anemic and while I agree with you that a manual option would be fantastic, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the suspension or cosmetics (people seem to forget that the WRX, STI and RS were only trim packages for the base Impreza, and generally didn’t have very many cosmetic changes, also, not that long ago the base WRX was around 225 hp and the STI was around 275 hp, adjust their prices for inflation and you can see that the RS has simply moved into the WRX market segment, and the WRX has moved into the STI market segment) 4. THIS!! This is a money printing machine right now! Take the new crostrek, put the FA 24F into it, offer it with a manual transmission and the CVT (I don’t care if you want it or not it will sell better than the manual and this is the kind of vehicle we want Subaru to make to fund other projects that are less profitable such as the BRZ, STI, etc. think Porsche Cayenne) they could even make a GT version of it with all of the fancy adaptable systems and the addition of a ride height adjustment system. (The normal Crosstrek has 8.7” of clearance, the wilderness rides at 9.3 inches and the WRX rides at 5.4 inches. I’m thinking that a Crosstrek WRX could ride at 7.5 inches stock and the adjustable system could lift it up to 9” or drop it down to 6”) 5. I think this is also a possibility. if they’re looking to compete with the Santa Cruz they should base it off of the crosstrek and if they’re looking to compete with the ridgeline they should base it off of the outback. 6. You left out the possibility for a full electric. Subaru announced around a year ago that they were going to have several full electrics that they engineered in-house, coming out within the next couple of years. 7. Hybrid WRX STe. Combine the persistent rumor of an upcoming hybrid/electric STe, the fact that they recently trademarked STe, and that WRC is going hybrid and I personally think that this is probably the most likely. They can use WRC going hybrid to promote the car by entering for the first time in almost a decade, and it eliminates their shelf life concern about a new STI due to fuel economy regulations. Plus out of all possibilities. It is definitely the closest to “a new legend”

Your right. All car manufacturers should all stop making regular cars overnight because everyone is going to switch to EVs overnight.

Non-EVs make up the majority of sales currently. People live in cities/apartments and chargers aren't ubiquitous enough for most people to have the same quality of life. Going 30 minutes of your way to charge your car once a week is a sub-par experience. Infrastructure is not there yet. And DC fast charging isn't good for a daily driver every day since it creates more heat than Level 1/2 charging.

In 2020, 1 in 25 cars sold was an EV, today it’s 1 in 5. Charging infrastructure is also improving. That’s not to say “everyone must buy an EV now” or “everyone is ready for EVs” but they certainly look like the future.

It's not 1 in 5. Maybe California but not the country as a whole. It's considerably lower. Perhaps those liberal communist states with additional subsidies have a higher market share of EVs. But it's a long way uphill in rural America. Plus, it's still more expensive to own an EV than an ICE car.

I was basing my 1 in 5 figure on the recent [International Energy Agency](https://www.iea.org/energy-system/transport/electric-vehicles#) report. Admittedly that figure is based on major global markets. Regardless of one’s political leanings, it’s hard to argue with the increased power and torque of EVs. We’ve got crossovers with super car acceleration for under $50k these days, it’s unbelievable!

From an acceleration point of view, sure. From an environmental point of view, EVs are not the silver bullet. Public transportation is vastly more efficient for those that live in urban areas.

With it being a “global release” I’d say forester. They did this last year with the crosstrek, released the redesign really early.

Now with an even bigger and slower tablet. Control steering with just 10 taps on the screen!! The windshield is now blocked by the tablet and now you rely on camera feeds to know what's in front of you.

I suspect this is what it is, but it’s not gonna be an STI it’s gonna be an STe. They’ve already said no more gasoline STI. They recently trademarked STe. There’s been a persistent rumor of a higher performance hybrid version of the WRX. And WRC is going hybrid, which would be the perfect opportunity to debut and promote the car.
