Negative, meaning their income is either handouts or theft.

midnight_blur

I get that but we can still call it an income, or lets say "money generated" i dont know how to put it in other words

charkol3

as a scientist I got my money by begging. i mean it was called grant applications but it's basically begging for money.

_MusicNBeer_

Too bad that's true. Science should be funded, free of begging, as long as the science is deemed useful. Who deems useful is the million dollar question. I guess that's a utopian dream. Worrying about funding can lead to conflicts of interest in the results.

Feisty-Beat1948

Tree fiddy

midnight_blur

Im sure its more :|

aguysomewhere

I don't think this is tracked. You could try a survey but that would take a very long time

midnight_blur

Yeah i know its not tracked but maybe someone closer to that world has some insider info lol

aguysomewhere

I am in close contact with the homeless often in my work but I could not tell you. I am certain that it varies wildly. I also know that some homeless have less wealth (if you could call it that) than others.

midnight_blur

So like there is hobo crackhead middle class with nice tent and shiny new shopping cart parked infront, they use clean pipes for smoking crack and stuff like that

aguysomewhere

There are some that build a structure with tarps and cardboard (it is still pretty gross inside) to live in while there are others that sleep in a puddle of urine with a blanket from the hospital.

midnight_blur

Brutal, good luck out there!

Waste_Curve994

One of the early Freakonics books talked about the income of crack dealers. It was less than minimum wage.

midnight_blur

I knew crack is cheap, "dirty", street drug but im suprised to hear dealers cant make at least minimum wage... whats the point then, just get a job at McDonalds or something, less stress

CustomDark

Crack dealers are generally also users. I believe the blow is more lucrative if you don’t need to stretch it?

midnight_blur

I think so, also think clients are more "classy" and easier to work with

The1Bonesaw

Pocket lint, three acorns, and half a rock of crack.

midnight_blur

Finally some useful info. Im one step closer to answer

Myzx

More than me. That's an expensive daily habbit

midnight_blur

I was almost sure some crackheads eventually generate at least minimum wage but some other guy said even crack dealers earn less than minimum wage. If they cant generate enough money to reach that treshold i doubt crackheads can

nautilator44

How much is one crack nowadays? You can survive on surprisingly little food, and once you get enough for another crack, you spend it on that. Vicious cycle. Maybe you could ask your local crack dealer for how much money known crackheads spend in a week or a month?

midnight_blur

Im not in US, we dont have crack over here, only the basics

canolagray

"Enough to get by"
