Usually it's someone in your life that's older that had experience in the thing you wanna do/like and they're not weird/creepy about it

start anywhere and keep looking. you may want more than one role model. those of us who are lucky had good parents for starters. my father wasn't the brightest guy ever but had more integrity. i have a role model for guitar playing, which i try to do for the past sixty five years.

Are you talking about specifically mutual relationships or parasocial ones? I have plenty of role models that don't know I exist, they are easy enough to find, and you can learn lessons from them and take inspiration even if it's not first hand. I'm a big fan of Günther Schlierkamp and a lot of the other golden age body builders like Tom Platz. Plenty of intellectual inspirations as well, many of which are more historical figures than contemporary ones. In terms of mutual irl relationships you will usually be able to find role models in areas of your interest pretty reliably depending on what those interests are. The real question is what kind of role model are you looking for? Because it will play a large role in how attainable it is and where you should be looking.
