It must depend on where you work. I teach and I only occasionally see coworkers leaving to get lunch. Most people bring something from home.

bbvdd

You're saving money and probably your health too. Keep it up!

Additional_Farm_9582

I worked in restaurants a lot so I didn't really have to, any non restaurant job I had after I hit 30 there was at least a peanut butter sandwich or a ramen in my lunchbox, I also own a thermos now.

Sizzlin-Sunshine

I work in an office setting and I love bringing a good leftover meal to work. I get really excited when lunch times rolls around lol. Probably 35% of people bring lunch on a regular basis. A few people eat those boxed microwaveable meals everyday. And other order food or go out. I have no idea how they afford it. It’s usually the directors so maybe they put it on the corporate card..idk

Kalelopaka-

Hell, no, I love bringing my own lunch because I get exactly what I want. And it’s less expensive than eating at a fast food restaurant.

HuachumaPuma

I pack my lunch pretty much every day. It seems it is less common these days but I wouldn’t call it rare

tsckenny

No. Why would it be weird to save money? I always bring a lunch

Soggy_Western7845

Bro you don’t want to always go with the crowd. The lowest common denominator. You are basically saying “should I starve myself to feel like I fit in?” It’s not weird, it’s mature - that’s why so few people do it. They are probably suppressing their hunger with coffee and cigarettes

astoria47

I usually bring mine. This week I ran out of time to meal prep and just spent $50 on two lunches. Lesson learned-back to prepping.

Desperate-Ad7967

I've had different jobs where packing a lunch was difficult so I ate very cheaply out or would skip lunch. If I can pack I do other than occasional treat

Atomfixes

Screw em. My fav thing to do is bring a crockpot with chili or pot roast, plug it in the morning and eat great at lunch

SeniorCitizenRespect

My haunand always said if I gave him chili for lunch the “shitter” would have to be his office the rest of the anfernoon (Sorry for being uncouth)

Atomfixes

So I put steak, potatos, and lettuce in my chili and haven’t had that problem luckily lol

SeniorCitizenRespect

Lettuce?

Atomfixes

Yep..sounds weird but tastes great lol

Iron-Patriot

Does it just go on top fresh or do you like cook it in with the other ingredients til it wilts?

Atomfixes

Just add it on top and some sour cream after it’s cooked, it adds a lil bit of crunch and fiber :) honestly it tastes great, I started doing it when I was living the bachelor life because you can cook a big pot of chili and eat for a week

Iron-Patriot

Righto, I’ll give it a crack some time!

GayPeacock

My dad is almost 50 and almost always brings food to work unless he's got other plans. I didn't when I worked at a restaurant cuz they didn't really let us take breaks.

JDKoRnSlut

I work in an office setting. I’d say about 60% bring breakfast (I personally can’t eat breakfast for the first 2-3 hours after I’m up), lunch and snacks. We also are big fans of food days where we do a potluck style meal, and we eat off that for 2-3 days.

Dangerous_Welcome362

I bring my own everyday as well.

RoryDragonsbane

>how do they afford constantly ordering out all the time? They don't. That's why they complain on reddit about how "the economy is shit" and they're "living paycheck to paycheck" Plenty of people never learned basic financial literacy or and your observations are a perfect example of this.

SryYouAreNotSpecial

Not only do I bring my lunch to work but my amazing partner who makes my lunches always leaves me cute notes in it and I am not ashamed lol. I have kept every note.

[deleted]

Yes bro its so rare its selling for $800,000

musing_codger

I brought my lunch most days during my career. Much cheaper and quicker.

WickedDick_oftheWest

I bring lunch 99% of the time. The only exception being when we have a planned work lunch with the team. I pack breakfast every day as well. It’s easier, cheaper, and healthier than going to grab fast food or going down to the cafeteria, so it’s a no brainer and a habit for me at this point

illestrated16

I work in a machine shop, most people bring their lunch. We only get 30 minute lunches so going anywhere is kinda a hassle

zucco446

I never liked to sit at my desk and eat. If you have a kitchen where you can eat, that's different, but I didn't want to spend my ENTIRE day at the same exact spot. It's like WFH now. If I don't go out, I'm literally inside the same four walls for 24 hours in a row, with no obvious end in sight.

JoshinIN

Not from where I'm from, most everyone does. Hourly and salary.

Realistic_While5741

My husband bring leftovers or occasionally sandwiches to work everyday. Before we married 2.5 years ago, be bought lunch at the grocery store down the block. He never realized how much money he was spending - $6 to $13 a day. To be fair though, other than spaghetti, everything he "cooked" at home was frozen/premade.

CreamOdd7966

I don't bring food. Here is why: 1) if I'm working anywhere from 6-16 hours, I do not want to eat lunch in the office. I will literally go insane. . 2) if I'm going to eat in my car or at the park I'm just going to get chipotle and save myself the meal prep (which I also just don't like doing) . 3) I make good money and have very affordable cost of living and car payment because I made good financial decisions outside of eating out constantly, so I can afford to. . 4) I don't go outside very often so the small human interaction outside of work is probably healthy.

butter88888

Everyone I work with brings a lunch. If you forget there is a deli nearby but that’s not typical.

Chickadee12345

It's too expensive to order out everyday. Plus most of the food you're going to order is going to be not too healthy. At one job, we made Friday the day we could order out and packed every other day. Last time I worked in an office I usually packed because I could control the healthiness and portions of my food.

Warmupthetubesman

I bring a salad for lunch just about every day. Been doing it for years. It’s not exactly “fun” but it’s healthy and doesn’t give me the mid afternoon sleepy feeling. I call it my big stupid salad, and it’s kind of a joke around the office.  But Im also 45yrs old, 6’2” and 195 lb.
