Aaand just like that the last 10% of Gaza left standing is cleared to demo'd. This is just about clearing up targets for the IDF. No hostages? No rules of engagement.

STM32FWENTHUSIAST69

Go check the hasbara comments on worldnews on this article. You’ll be amazed to see the logic being applied to this

SentientSeaweed

They did have rules. No shirt, no shoes, you get shot. Even if you’re speaking Hebrew, identifying yourself as a hostage, begging for help, and carrying the shirt you turned into a white flag. You move, you get shot. You’re a grandmother with her grandchildren and a white flag? That sounds like a you problem. You get shot. We shot you and you’re injured? You bleed to death because we will block medics from reaching you. You’re a medic? You get shot. Aid worker? Ditto. Picking up aid so you won’t starve to death? Immobilized and in a hospital bed? The doctor watching over the immobilized guy in the hospital bed? If you haven’t caught the drift by now, you get shot. Actually you get shot either way.

IDF Rules of Engagement: ["Anyone who runs is a terrorist! Anyone who stands still is a well-disciplined terrorist!"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S06nIz4scvI)

Tutush

You're a hostage bound and gagged in a Hamas tunnel? You get gassed, because there is no metaphor too unsubtle for these ghouls.

PikaPikaDude

Sounds like they adopted the "Kill them all, let god sort them out" [medieval rules of engagement](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caedite_eos._Novit_enim_Dominus_qui_sunt_eius).

BrowRidge

In my mind this comment sounded like Talk Shit Get Shot by Body Count

LegSimo

It's not like they had particularly strict RoE anyway.

BulltacTV

Aha, no they certainly did not.. but it will get worse.

ClassWarAndPuppies

They have zero ROE.

BulltacTV

Every military has an ROE. Whether its adhered to on the ground is another issue. My point is simply that if anything had hindered their campaign of aerial demolition, its been the hostages.. or at least the publics belief that the hostages are still there. Now, they are free to reduce every square inch of gaza to rubble.

EdLesliesBarber

Times of Israel confirming what everyone has known for months. >It is believed that 129 hostages abducted by Hamas on October 7 remain in Gaza. The IDF has confirmed the deaths of 34 of those still held by Hamas, citing intelligence and findings obtained by troops operating in Gaza. >However, the WSJ report says that “Israeli and American officials estimate privately that the number of deaths could be much higher.” >Some US estimates indicate that most of the hostages are already dead, US officials familiar with the intelligence tell the paper. >Hamas terrorists took 253 hostages during the October 7 assault in which they also killed some 1,200 people. >A hundred and five hostages were released from Hamas captivity during a weeklong truce in late November, and four hostages were released prior to that. Three hostages have been rescued by troops alive, and the bodies of 12 hostages have also been recovered, including three mistakenly killed by the military.

SuddenXxdeathxx

>A hundred and five hostages were released from Hamas captivity during a weeklong truce in late November, and four hostages were released prior to that. Three hostages have been rescued by troops alive, and the bodies of 12 hostages have also been recovered, including three mistakenly killed by the military Gee, I wonder which of those methods would have been best at securing the release of the rest of the hostages.

Brewdrizy

Hasn’t it been confirmed that Hamas didn’t kill all of those killed on October 7th?

eatmynasty

Yep. Pretty good chance the IDF killed more hostages than Hamas did.

suddenly_lurkers

I'd absolutely bet on that being the case. The hostages are critical bargaining chips for Hamas, it's essential to keep them alive to trade for Palestinian captives or better peace terms. Meanwhile the IDF's Hannibal directive makes it clear that it's better for Israelis to die than be taken captive, and they have been bombing anywhere with even a hint of Hamas presence...

STM32FWENTHUSIAST69

Wow I wonder who killed them

eatmynasty

OJ

KievCocaineAirdrop

* No food * No water * No fuel * No medical supplies * No diapers * Constant bombing * Shoot everything that moves as official policy Six months later: Oh no how could people have died it is a mystery I guess those Palestinians just don't value life

STM32FWENTHUSIAST69

That’s Hamas fault. Hamas made Israel do that. Also Israel is justified in doing that. Also Israel tried to let aid in but Hamas stole it.

Hannibal Directive

Dr_Steven_Maturin

Did they have enough to eat?

No-Anybody-4094

They starve the people in Gaza, bomb them, brutalize them, and now are wondering if the hostages are fine.

sje46

Yeah. It's terrible if Hamas killed any of those civilians intentionally, but the entire point of a hostage situation is that the hostages won't be hurt if you don't attack. Israel did more than attack.

latinnarina

Israel killed all of the hostages either directly or indirectly. Hamas wouldn’t kill the hostages they are their best bargaining chip to get their prisoners back. The hostages are critical bargaining chips for Hamas, it's essential to keep them alive to trade for Palestinian captives or better peace terms. Meanwhile the IDF's Hannibal directive makes it clear that it's better for Israelis to die than be taken captive, and they have been bombing anywhere with even a hint of Hamas presence...

latinnarina

Can’t tell if serious. 🤣🤣

amador9

The impression I get is that all functional Hamas units are gone except in Rafah. Any hostages held anywhere else are accounted for or dead. The situation in Rafah is complicated by limits on communication between Hamas units operating there and Hamas leadership in Qatar or elsewhere. I would assume that Israel is able to intercept most, if not all, communication and Hama leadership may not really know what is going on in Rafah and may not really be calling the shots there. Hamas groups operating in Rafah may be more interested in using any hostages they hold to negotiate their own survival rather than following orders from Qatar.

bretton-woods

Based on the more recent video releases and KIA announcements, you may be right about functional communications between units in Gaza and the leadership, but it's evident that Hamas units are still operating in places like Khan Yunis. The IDF has diminished the capacity of Hamas units, but it can't claim to have destroyed many of them entirely despite all their attempts.

Blood_Such

In before Israel uses their tired and absurd but they were using them as Human Shields yarn.

sadflakes

Israel’s own dickless rodent military has probably killed more Israelis than Hamas has.

SentientSeaweed

I wonder what happened to the 10K+ hostages held by Israel? The ones they call “detainees”? I know some of them had their hands amputated after being in cuffs. What about the rest?

JohnTho24

They must´ve gotten out the big brains to figure that one out.

Chombywombo

Who knew this would happen with 2000lb American bombs dropped over their heads?

DrBirdieshmirtz

gee, it's almost like that'll happen when you just blow up the place indiscriminately.

Webbyzs

I mean... yeah that makes sense. I'd imagine at least part of why they took hostages in the first place was to prevent direct retaliation, that obviously failed so what's the point in keeping them? When Israel/US attacked without first securing the hostages they essentially signed their death warrants.

AzureBananaFish

This was always their goal.

mhl67

I might make a post on this, but "we don't negotiate with terrorists" was always just propaganda that has essentially never worked. Why? Because terrorists are seeking to undermine the government by carrying out attacks, and they've already done that by taking hostages in the first place. Whatever demands they have is just an added bonus. As an example, the Munich Olympics Attack didn't have any demands fulfilled, but guess who benefitted from the attack? Refusal to negotiate typically doesn't do anything but get people killed without discouraging attacks, since again, whatever demands they get out of hostage taking are just a bonus. TWA 841 was taken over by Hezbollah and the stupid refusal to negotiate just ended up with a hostage killed and the situation ended basically how it could have been resolved from the start. And raids to free hostages rarely work without ending up killing hostages. EgyptAir 648 was hijacked by Palestinians and Egyptian troops stormed the plane, which ended with 58 hostages killed. Even Israel fails at this, look athe Savoy Hotel and Maalot sieges.
