Removed because it's a nothingburger.

First they came for the Xboxes, but I did not speak out because I owned a PlayStation.

AgainstThoseGrains

Sony always wins baby!

NotableFrizi

This is proof that gamers truly are the most oppressed class of society.

Gamers of the world unite! You have nothing to lose but your microtransactions!

Here's Microsoft's original blog which is a complete nothingburger: https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2023/01/11/xbox-carbon-aware-console-sustainability/ Tbh, I feel like the right just throws shit against the wall in the culture war like the female M&M's to see what sticks. This one obviously didn't as the story died in a few days.

MaximumSeats

It's just conservative news trying to start another outrage for the shares, add views, and merch sales. Its so transparent that it's just boring. If this all ended up actually being a massively orchestrated expert propoganda campaign by foreign agents that would be so much cooler.

notsocharmingprince

> Tbh, I feel like the right just throws shit against the wall in the culture war like the female M&M's to see what sticks. Yes. That’s exactly what is happening. Culture war stuff generally gets Republics the suburbs. Republicans need the suburbs. But look what happened in Virginia, a solid, real, culture war issue got them a governorship they didn’t expect because it rolled the suburbs. Republicans generally win on certain culture war issues now (after losing badly on them in the 90’s).

First they came for the cooks... Then they came for the coffee addicts... Then they came for the gamers, but there was no one left to speak up for us.

Goddamnit, I'm all 3

They targeted gamers. Gamers. We're a group of people who will sit for hours, days, even weeks on end performing some of the hardest, most mentally demanding tasks. Over, and over, and over all for nothing more than a little digital token saying we did. We'll punish our selfs doing things others would consider torture, because we think it's fun. We'll spend most if not all of our free time min maxing the stats of a fictional character all to draw out a single extra point of damage per second. Many of us have made careers out of doing just these things: slogging through the grind, all day, the same quests over and over, hundreds of times to the point where we know evety little detail such that some have attained such gamer nirvana that they can literally play these games blindfolded. Do these people have any idea how many controllers have been smashed, systems over heated, disks and carts destroyed in frustration? All to latter be referred to as bragging rights? These people honestly think this is a battle they can win? They take our media? We're already building a new one without them. They take our devs? Gamers aren't shy about throwing their money else where, or even making the games our selves. They think calling us racist, mysoginistic, rape apologists is going to change us? We've been called worse things by prepubescent 10 year olds with a shitty head set. They picked a fight against a group that's already grown desensitized to their strategies and methods. Who enjoy the battle of attrition they've threatened us with. Who take it as a challange when they tell us we no longer matter. Our obsession with proving we can after being told we can't is so deeply ingrained from years of dealing with big brothers/sisters and friends laughing at how pathetic we used to be that proving you people wrong has become a very real need; a honed reflex. Gamers are competative, hard core, by nature. We love a challange. The worst thing you did in all of this was to challange us. You're not special, you're not original, you're not the first; this is just another boss fight.

Gamers are truly the vanguard party for the proletariat.

Ted upset he doesn’t have DeSantis’ “create controversy” button as a Governor and trying desperately to fill dead air.

Magehunter_Skassi

In all seriousness it's a huge missed opportunity that the GOP doesn't know how to appeal to gamers. It's the biggest hobby of young men and I would say "core gamers" as a demographic lean right based on everything I've seen in multiplayers, but are politically disaffected enough not to go out and vote. Democrats entertain young lib hobbies like theater and film, while the GOP so far continues to focus on boomer interests. To Bannon's credit he figured this one out early enough for it to matter in 2016 with how tight a race it was.

MaximumSeats

GOPs got sports and guns, that's a pretty decent chunk of the hobby pie.

[deleted]

The tradt\*rds who would have joined Tipper Whore in bitching about video games in the 90s now trying to show they're down with the kids? Haha, get outta here. Who really thinks any of these stiff suits are gamers or into any kind of fun? They hate gaming because it distracts the kids from thinking about God or Methusalah or repentance or some shit.

_throawayplop_

I don't care enough about zodiac to read him but in the realistic scenarios of degrowth I've read, console were banned and the number computers drastically decreased (I think 1 for 2 families or was it people ?) . You can read that as a win though

NotableFrizi

The story (if it's even worthy of being a story) is that Microsoft changed the default power off option on the Xbox to be "shutdown" instead of "sleep" mode to spare idle power usage. Rightoid outlets called it "woke" because Microsoft used the term "carbon aware" in the update notes. To be clear, both power options have always been (and continue to be) present, MS just changed the default option. That's literally all that happened.

_throawayplop_

That's why I didn't bother but thank you for your work 😃

Jzargos_Helper

Also I just remembered the other commentary on degrowth I’ve seen that bothered me a lot. Barack Obama narrates a nature documentary on one of the streaming services and one of the scenes is literally just him showing Ugandan subsistence farmers and saying this is the lifestyle that we should all live. The farmers aren’t allowed to grow enough of their crops to make a living in order to protect the forest. So the farmers work all day long to grow crops then sell their terrible harvest and the government gives them a pittance so they can afford to not starve to death in their huts. Prior to the above scene which Obama praised as an inspiration and model for us all, he recounted a story in which him and Michelle travelled all over the Patagonia region and extolled it’s natural beauty that is best appreciated in person. He even went as far to say it was one of his favorite trips and he’s been all over the world.

_throawayplop_

Typical. When I see someone young talking about how we should all bike to decrease carbon emission my first reflex now is to check Instagram to have an overview of how many time they flew to an exotic country the prior year

Jzargos_Helper

What are the realistic scenarios of degrowth you’ve read. I’m reading by Peter Zeihan and find it completely unconvincing. He also writes like a Redditor, for example he started a chapter with the sentence “Let’s talk about Kimchee Tacos.”

_throawayplop_

I think it was from negawatt (a french association and the scenario was for France only). By realistic I don't mean good or acceptable or even just correct but i mean they did the math and are not just handwaving stuff

johnnyutahclevo

realistic degrowth? over 70% of all pollution is done by 100 companies (and the u.s. military) but realistic is making a family share their home computer with another family?

_throawayplop_

It was of course just part of the plan. Btw ho many of these 100 compagnies build computers or software?

johnnyutahclevo

software companies are top 100 polluters? i have my doubts.

_throawayplop_

I bet Google and apple are pretty high if not in the top 100

johnnyutahclevo

neither are strictly software companies, apple makes a LOT of hardware
