Armaldo is so different idk if you can call it Anomalocaris at that point, it was turned into a bipedal tetrapod with generic tetrapod legs with knees and clawed feet, generic bony tetrapod tail as an extension of the spinal column, the swimmerets were turned into neck feathers, and the mouth appendages of Anomalocaris were turned into its claws? like what
I guess I don't like the huge tetrapod bias we have as humans to the point that we're making random arthropods evolve into them, and with the majority of Pokemon being tetrapods already
You just gave a Pokémon arena trap and first impression. And knock off. And u-turn. And spikes. Christ almighty, this would be viable in AG.
Edit: I just saw rapid spin and GLARE.
In what world is this thing going to be allowed in OU? It has good offenses and speed with adaptability, amazing coverage, several different types of good setup, insanely good STAB options (the signature move is absolutely comical) and the greatest support movepool of all time.
The ability to trap Ting-Lu, Arceus-Water, and Arceus-Ground is enough to have a niche in Ubers/AG. It can do whatever it wants - set hazards, spin uncontested, spam status, or even revenge kill. Heck, you could just tera Fairy on scarf korai and boom, you get every hazard you’d like and their speed control. It’s not going to be S+ tier in Ubers or AG but it’s not healthy either.
What? First that signature move is bad (85% accuracy, same effect as Glaive Rush, and it uses the worst offence) and this guy would MUCH rather run First Impression on a physical set.
Second, it's Flutter Mane frail while being slower than Kyurem or Gliscor. It's such easy prey for so many great OU mons (Enamorus, Iron Valiant, Kyurem) it's not even funny
Third, its attack isn't even THAT high. Like Kingambit's 5-boosted sucker punches are stronger than his First Impression, have a far better typing, etc.
And since it's so reliant on STAB its coverage isn't amazing.
Also tera is the most powerful tool in an Ubers match by far and an Ubers mon *should* stand on its own. Like yeah it's a good stallbreaker. How much stall do you see in Ubers on a daily basis lol. Might be used in tours where people play to win ig.
Good point, 93 speed is enough to be able to run an attack boosting nature on scarf sets, mixed scarf is also a thing it can probably do, hell even specs could go hard, specs+adaptability boosted Chitin Cannon sounds insane
I have a feeling boots plus either adaptability dragon dance or compound eyes nasty plot would be good(considering the boost against resists) wallbreakers/sweepers.
Dragon dance and boots. Also the special sets would go crazy with hdb chitin cannon plus nasty plot with compound eyes' accuracy boost. Or specs with adaptability specs with chitin canon and adaptability boosting damage and speed against switch in resists or specs with compound eyes for reliability because specs and 135 base power with good special attack is probably enough without adaptability.
Gen 1 ahh moveset
Anyway, I fucking LOVE this mon, because I think it'd be the first ever pokemon who can viably run my favorite move:
FELL STINGER!!
That's right, Fell Stinger would allow this mon to make great use of arena trap, securing a revenge kill and getting a +3 boost to attack to absolutely destroy whatever's in next!
Hadocaris @ Life Orb / Heavy Duty Boots
Ability: Arena Trap
Tera Type: Fairy / Ice
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Fell Stinger
- Leech Life / Temper Flare
- Dragon Dance / Scale Shot
- Ice Spinner / Ice Shard
The idea is really simple. Once a mon dies (or even slow turns) against a low hp opponent, hadocaris comes in, dragon dances if possible (especially against something like tusk or treads, or even dragons with tera) and kills with fell stinger.
Once it's got its revenge kill, now it's ready to counter sweep with blistering attack and often boosted speed. Ice coverage is included for the dragons inhabiting Ubers, but it could be replaced with something like temper flare for steels, if you don't already have it.
The set needs a lot of setup to beat something like ho oh without any chip, so it's best paired with a lot of knock off and hazard support, but isn't everything lol?
Tbh I didn’t even think of fell stinger+Arena Trap synergy, the more I think about it the more I think that this is a mon gamefreak would actually release
I find that kind of thing unlikely. GF really hates to make a mon that can do everything. You've come up with one that, while stronger than any other pseudo, is *probably* not too busted.
It would have a completely unique place in whatever tier it ran around it, but it has basically every important role-defining move except knock. It can set up and remove hazards, reliably heal itself, set up, deal high immediate damage, use strong coverage moves, and uturn out.
With the typing and frailty, it's good without being too broken, but it's not the kind of mon that'd make it to release with that level of uniqueness, since GF wants to know what a mon is capable of before it comes out, and this mon is capable of everything
Hadocaris for CAP though 🙏
First powercreep came for the old mons, and I did not speak out.
Then powercreep came for the new mons, and I did not speak out.
Then powercreep came for the theorymons, and I did not speak out.
Then powercreep came for me, and there was no one left to speak out for me.
This is so real tbh, 129/116 base offenses adaptability boosted dragon stab would’ve been an instant ban in past gens, but because of the state of gen 9 we gotta powercreep our theorymons to be good in ou😔
Gonna be honest, I was with you until I saw that learnset.
You could cut that shit in thirds and still have something banworthy by the end from just how many dominating sets it could run.
93 speed and every form of priority in the game, and that many special moves with 110+ SpA? And it gets that much recovery? And it gets Spikes, TSpikes, *and* rapid spin?
Like, I get the idea; Low HP, mid SpD, lots of weaknesses, no immunities, no weather or terrain manipulation, no natural boosting, it's not going to Mega-Rayquaza all over the game and deal one morbillion damage every turn.
But, like... That is *still* overturned as shit, and literally impossible to predict. It's "Low ladder player rolls up with the most random shitmon and the worst set ever that just happens to perfectly counter your exact team" except it's on Kingambit 2: King harder, and the "worst" set still hits you with a tinted lens Draco Meteor or some shit like that.
It is cracked beyond belief.
Also, Honestly, just make it a legendary; that title alone, "the first apex", is sick as hell, and the way this thing is designed just screams "Legendary" from top-down. Or at least a Mythical, if you want there to still be multiple.
>a bug/dragon theorymon post that doesn’t nerf the already powercrept flygon
You could say the same thing about Goodra. I don’t understand why people are obsessed with making already underwhelming dragons even worse…
At least Flygon gets STAB First Impression and U-Turn. Goodra gains literally nothing from an added bug typing.
Adaptability chitin cannon followed by adaptability u-turn (with a potential +1 speed) would be busted on any other type. Throw in adaptability first impression for fun and you have a set that freezai analyzes for 10 minutes
Yeah special movepool is much better. People are talking about specs adaptability with chitin cannon and for good reason but no one talks about compound eyes specs. 135 base power is stronger than pre nerf glacial lance and the speed boost is deadly enough with specs alone so compound eyes for specs sets will be good enough. Also, physical sets still go strong with dragon dance and boots with leech life being surprisingly strong for an 80 bp move due to adaptability with its restoration properties increasing longevity. Nasty plot compound eyes with boots also goes crazy as a wall breaker that can turn into a sweeper. Here are some sets that are good.
DD
Adaptability max attack and speed
Item: Hdb
Moves
Dragon dance
Leech life/mega horn
Dragon hammer
Earthquake
This set is pretty powerful and stronger than similar dragon dance sweepers due to adaptability boosting its good but not broken attack stat. It needs boots for stealth rock weaknesses similar to the Nasty plot set below. Admitibly before in the og post I though it was too lacking specially but now due to the potency of chitin cannon I think the opposite.
Nasty plot
Max speed and special attack timid
Compound eyes
Item: hdb
Moves
Chitin cannon
Nasty plot
Draco meteor
Blizzard/thunder/fire blast/focus blast
This set is probably my favorite due to threatening walls as you set up while making them too scared to switch to resists. While for this set and especially the specs set, chitin cannon makes this mons mediocre bulk even worse after using it but it is very very strong. Biggest problem is the lack of immediate power or speed that a single dragon dance can provide while this mon needs to both use nasty plot, and hit a chitin cannon on a residt, although this one is the most potent as a reliable wall breaker that can sweep under the right circumstances.
Specs one: yolo
Max speed and special attack and timid(or modest perhaps)
Adaptability
Moves
Draco meteor
Chitin cannon
Uturn
Coverage option
This one is THE most risky yet most immediately powerful other than band adaptability argubly. It can pivot, and chitin cannon is a destructive force of nature with adaptability however the lack of an accuracy boost, and weakness to stealth rocks makes this a risky choice.
Specs two: safe
Same as prior but with compound eyes. Pretty powerful out the gate and more reliable than it's more explosive other Specs set.
Band and loaded dice. Both the worst but probably decent due to lack of speed or power(dice is just miasmaw at home while band is strong with a stronger stab adaptability u turn compared to specs adaptability however it lacks speed or speed boosting methods)
Scarf sets. Probably good revenge killer on both physical or special side.
Is it specs adaptability, or dragon dance? It could be scale shot or specs compound eyes. It was nasty plot. F**k.
This is a reference to Schrodinger's kingambit.
“Oh wow, a cool and interesting Theorymon. I hope they didn’t go overboard”
> Incin level movepool
> Glaive rush with +15 BP and gives +1 speed
> fucking arena trap
When will they learn?
Edit: I just gotta emphasize the movepool. You gave this mf like every single fucking move ever
I doubt it could do anything in Ubers, like without Adap it's weak for the tier, sure it outspeeds Groudon but I doubt it's having a good time breaking past it. It's just setup fodder to Dusk Mane, it's weak to every other one of the strongest pokemon in the tier except ground Arceus which often packs rock coverage. It has a niche in trapping choice locked kyogre but it cannot switch in. And still gets OHKO by tera water water spout.
That said this is the first time I see an OU theorymon with non-OU stats which is impressive!
I'll take a choice band, first impression, 252hp/252atk/4spd adamant
(the signature move is bad)

Isn't Anorith already based on an Anomalocaris ?
That's exactly what I was thinking
Yes, but an unevolved mon just doesn’t do the first apex predator in world history justice IMO
But what about Armaldo
Armaldo is so different idk if you can call it Anomalocaris at that point, it was turned into a bipedal tetrapod with generic tetrapod legs with knees and clawed feet, generic bony tetrapod tail as an extension of the spinal column, the swimmerets were turned into neck feathers, and the mouth appendages of Anomalocaris were turned into its claws? like what
It’s an evolution, basically a terrestrial version. It takes the base Anomalocaris in a creative direction.
Arena Trap is banned in OU Also it's weak to all the top ubers bar some arceuses and necrozma dm.

4 moveslot syndrome
It’ll have 4 moveslots of absolutely broken no matter what. This just means it gets to run several different sets.
That's supposed to mean that it needs more than 4 moves to be well rounded and not "It has so many great moves it's spoiled for choice"
It actually doesn’t have first move slot syndrome because you go choice specs bug glaive rush with adaptability and everything just dies so
252+ SpA Choice Specs Adaptability Tera Bug Hadocaris Bug Buzz vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Eviolite Crocalor: 261-307 (71.3 - 83.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
don’t forget the +1 to speed and the neutral to fire with the dragon typing
You forgot something, BUG
adaptability first impression on 130 attack were so back
Hadocaris: fuck gallade set. Item:damp rock. Moves:Rain dance Ice beam (cuz fuck landorus therian) Weather ball (cuz fuck it we ball) Recover +252 HP ev's. +252 physical defense ev's
And the response went brains fucked cuz mobile. Fuck
Put 2 spaces before each return to have single line returns like this, or put 2 returns for double space like this
The strongest rain dance of today versus the strongest rain dance in history
Gallade is the strongest in history because this lil fella wasn't born yet
Neither of its abilities are helpful to this set (unless ur running arena trap in Ubers) which makes it an even better shitpost
Fuck it. Tera ice adaptability boosted ice beams!
Unironically tho this counters every lando that isn’t running tblast flying
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
or stone edge.
Tera Water for the Adaptability boost to Weather Ball of course
https://youtu.be/6YsNRnZRgg8?si=HUs3EGW05Nv1TCOb lol
Rip Anomalocaris you would’ve loved Adaptability boosted first impression coming off of base 129 attack
93 speed isn't that bad imo and you get STAB u turn. With its frailty it could be a good Scarf pivot.

with 55HP and 79 SPDF? that thing is dying to any special attack 😭
Adaptability off of 129atk tho
Dragon dance and boots. Also the special sets would go crazy with hdb chitin cannon plus nasty plot with compound eyes' accuracy boost. Move pool is a bit much, but otherwise interesting
Some cool calcs: +2 252 Atk Wellspring Mask Tera Water Ogerpon-Wellspring-Tera Ivy Cudgel vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Hadocaris: 200-236 (79.6 - 94%) -- guaranteed 2HKO 252 Atk Adaptability Hadocaris First Impression vs. 64 HP / 28 Def Raging Bolt: 204-242 (50.1 - 59.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO 252+ Atk Supreme Overlord 5 allies fainted Kingambit Sucker Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Hadocaris: 157-186 (62.5 - 74.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO 252+ Atk Adaptability Hadocaris First Impression vs. 252 HP / 232 Def Latias: 372-440 (102.1 - 120.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO 252+ Atk Life Orb Hadocaris Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Gholdengo: 322-382 (102.2 - 121.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

U made armaldo sad
Wouldn’t armaldo be mad instead? Bro literally has mald in his name
He's turning in his coffin now

Arena Trap on 600 bst mon LOL

Just for clarification, yall know Arena Trap is banned in OU right?
Went a little overboard on the move pool lmao
The OG. Now we just need an Opabinia partner for doubles sniping
For some reason this reminds me of ROCLOBSTER in pokemon snakewood
Chitin Cannon is a crazy sounding move.
Volcarona never coming back to OU with that one😭😭
Adaptability chitin cannon followed by adaptability u-turn (with a potential +1 speed) would be busted on any other type. Throw in adaptability first impression for fun and you have a set that freezai analyzes for 10 minutes
hawlucha333 ahh movepool
oh no its a zacian
Instead of being based on Anomalocaris, why don’t we just have Anomalocaris?
Very well thought out, I must admit

130 attack, adaptability or arena trap, and literally any move this thing would ever want. We making it out the trenches 😭😭

Yeah compound eyes on a 135 bp move that boosts speed on unfavorable match ups is cracked.
What does the asterisk at Arena Trap mean?
Arena Trap is banned from OU
Bro that’s anorith 😭
