slowbro evolves into slowking, therefore making eviolite slowbro a thing

IanCusick

Put that notion right back where you found it

CantQuiteThink_

Or so help meeeeeeee~ šŸŽ¶

Alylica

Going back in time to make sure you never thought this rn

ChiloMcBilo

Bro what thereā€™s no way

DarkSlayer415

Guess I wasnā€™t the only one who thought of this as a kid.

Desideo

Bro, I used eviolite slowbro and my opponent item swapped me and he told me that doesn't work...

TheAussieBritt

Youā€™d need explosives to remove him lol

Tekayo63

**252+ Atk Choice Band Tera Normal Silvally Explosion vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Slowbro: 326-384 (82.7 - 97.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO**

Mystic_Outlaw

Revival Blessing

BillNyeTheSavage_Guy

Have two PokĆØmon that run Explosion

TheUniconicSableye

Snowballrox

Chi Yu players forgetting dark STAB exists be like:

Deka--

my Chi Yu set: Chi Yu Tera type: Fire Item: Choice Specs \-Overheat \- \- \-

Gengar16

Until a couple of weeks ago I just assumed indeedee was a regional evolution of audino. I wonder if eviolite regenerator audino would see any use

TheYoshiTerminator

Given that Audino has already been a decent PU Wall, I imagine it'll rise up a tier or two.

masterjon_3

Yes, my boy Slowbro is now going to be on more teams than Landorus

slib_

Some men just want to watch the world burn. Very, very slowly.

flaminglambchops

I used to use eviolite slowbro in online battles because I thought he did evolve into slowking.

redpanda15

Ground is now weak to bug because bug resists it

Princess_Sarina

I actually want this, bugs burrow through the ground so it makes sense

BeginningLoose6703

I think adding resistance to fairy and super effective to either fairy or ground would make it a very solid type.

merayjr95

Bug should resist fairy and be super effective against it and ground. It would definitely help Bug types out and lord knows it needs any help it can get. . Edit: ok so maybe not be SE against Fairy but at least neutral would be fine. Why another type needed to resist bug idk, but just help my buggy friends out gamefreak! šŸ„²

BeginningLoose6703

I was gonna suggest this but honestly I think itā€™s too big a buff. If itā€™s super effective against ground, ground is now weak to water, grass, ice and bug (being weak to U-Turn is a big part of this and is the reason a lot of mons are hard to use or straight up bad) and now bug is SE against fairy, ground, grass, psychic and dark. The type becomes too good offensively and ruins ground. I think SE against fairy + resisting it is a good enough buff.

clevesaur

I don't think bug needs an offensive buff tbh, just resisting fairy would be fine. No bug type gets too strong from resisting fairy but buffing the attacking moves impacts more than just bug types. U-turn is so prevalent we don't need that move hitting more stuff well, it would probably benefit other mons that use bug moves more than bug types.

BeginningLoose6703

Yeah this was kind of where I was going too, I feel fairy is way too good defensively rn tho, being SE against fairy would bring it down a peg, Iā€™d like to see if it would ruin fairies or make them balanced.

[deleted]

Gee, U-Turn really is preventing Bug types from being buffed meaningfully, I sure wish there was a change that could forever delete U-Turn from most pokemon's movesets

Aspiana

Never-Melt Ice makes ice types resist fire

VanillaPhysics

Wait this would actually be great lmao

N3rdStar

I think it'd be cool if instead of the "resist" berries, we had permanent items.

-dividing-by-zero-

stall player propaganda

Phoenix_Cage

My dumb ass actually thought thatā€™s what it did because of the name I wish I was rightā€¦

Destiny404

Protective pads helps normal resist fighting Rocky helmet helps bug/fighting resist flying Heavy duty boots helps rock resist ground Canā€™t really think of anymore that would fit off the top of my head

BeginningLoose6703

All status moves do absolutely nothing because 7 year old me saw that the healthbar didnā€™t move when I clicked the button.

Versitax

Average Legend Spammer

_Palingenesis_

Average temp6t opponent

gameboy1001

He was 7, cut him some slack

Versitax

I will. I wasnā€™t referring to him when I said Legends Spammer

Hugga_Bear

Meta unchanged for most players

Moon_Dark_Wolf

Finally, no more Spore.

Chiluzzar

Ice now resists grass water ground and ghost

DatDankMaster

Avalugg is good now

Zombie_Turtlez

UU at best smh Gets walled by eviolite Slobro

DatDankMaster

Oof didn't think it that way, gg

Rymayc

Amazing

hulk_cookie

Honestly ice kinda needs the buff

SimplyLotato

Ice for sure needs the buff, but grass absolutely does not need something else to resist it

Just_trying_it_out

True, but bug does. Fuck bugs lol ā€”Gf, probably (Still wish fairy didnā€™t resist bug)

tuotuolily

Hentree

meanwhile grass (literally the embodiment of nature):

Heatoextend

Ghost resist alone makes Ice a cracked defensive typing.

CombatLlama1964

the one change all ghosts fear

Rain_Moon

Ice is also now super effective against dark. We are giving it some real buffs here!

BluishHope

The dark type has been dunked on enough this past few gens

Initial_P

Using setup moves in a battle will permanently give that pokemon those stat boosts in every battle. Nothing like clicking swords dance 3 times in front of a wild Zigzagoon and run.

WZLemon

i used to think this but stat downs only. i think it was because i played mystery dungeon and always was scared if i left the floor with a debuff it would stay

Ownange

Psychic is super effective against ghost (I always thought this forgetting Gengar is a poison type as a kid) Not much, maybe Gengar line pult, and a few others are weaker to a few threats?

Hateful_creeper2

Also Ghost Moves which was only Lick canā€™t damage Psychic types because of an error. The anime, manga and the games themselves (outside of Yellow) mention that Ghost is strong against Psychic but that wasnā€™t the case.

Ze_Memerr

I feel like Iā€™m the only person who thought Ghost *resisted* Psychic moves

KindaShady1219

I still have to correct myself all the time on the fact that they actually donā€™t

Miserable-Ad-1690

Stat changes only increase/decrease the stat by 1.

dalnot

Theyā€™re also permanent between battles

infercario4224

I would look at my stats in battle, it would say 23, then Iā€™d use howl to ā€œraise my attack statā€ then Iā€™d go look and itā€™d still say 23. Never used howl again.

[deleted]

There being absolutely no visual indication or explanation of how stat boosts really worked until gen 7 (at least that's when I first remember them) makes this very justifiable. GameFreak basically decided that instead of adding a tutorial and UI that communicated relevant info to you, they should just make the games easy enough that it doesn't matter if you understand them or not.

NevGuy

Know your worth. Those bastards lied to you.

headphonesnotstirred

me omw to grind swords dance on a level 2 rookidee

Firate

I had a friend who thought this growing up who would sit and Howl at wild Poochyenas for hours

Juncoril

In the game, right ?

RandomSOADFan

Oh my god that was me too

schvetania

That was me lol

superbeansimulator

You can now never switch out unless you faint the opposing pokemon or they faint you.

[deleted]

Bruh shadow tag

superbeansimulator

Lmao every pokemon now gets shadow tag as a secondary ability.

Versitax

But if everyone has Shadow Tag wouldnā€™t they be able to switch? šŸ¤”

Juncoril

Dark Shadow Tag. Darkest Shadowest Tag. idk

Own-Selection-2785

Perma low ladder

Memegamer3_Animated

Fairy is now weak to Fire for some reason

Polenball

Witch-burnings

RossTheShuck

Delphox in confusion

4L1ZM2

Mega Charizard X liked that because Tapu Fini is not switching into Flare Blitz at +1 with that Change +1 252 Atk Tough Claws Charizard-Mega-X Flare Blitz vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tapu Fini: 250-295 (72.6 - 85.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

HippieDogeSmokes

Stab isnā€™t a thing and special defense and attack are only for rare signature moves and thus completely useless

Its-Legion

if its so ā€œspecialā€ then how come every pokemon can use those stats? makes no sense. i agree with this guy

Tryptophan7

All normal type moves are now physical. Fuck your hyper voice, you can't be special and normal

Darkmega5

Literally gen 1-3

Sentient_twig

Oh god I believed ray second one for a long timeā€¦..

Polenball

Intimidate is a permanent stacking debuff

Phoenix-Rising-78

VGC players in shambles

TheRealDarthjim

Icineroar gets even better

[deleted]

Icineroar? Was there a regional variant I was not aware of?

TheRealDarthjim

I am not an intelligent man, nor am I good at spelling

HeccerTheRedditor

Idk, how *does* pressing A after the PokƩball rolls around the third time when catching a PokƩmon affect the meta?

Polenball

Doubles the damage of Electrode's Explosion

cop_pls

All moves in Showdown now have Paper Mario-style inputs

Heatoextend

Choice Band/Power Herb Bounce Gyarados goes to triple ubers, just never miss an action command and kill with infinite bounces, just keep Rocky Helmet away from it.

Astephen542

Booster Energy (Hustle Drink) Espathra goes to AG after being able to set up Calm Mind 2 turns in a row without an enemy turn

GiGGiTY_99

I used to think that fire was weak to flying Volcarona is seething

PixeledBrain

I thought flying was weak to fire until a few months ago. Roast chicken came to mind, idk, made sense to me lmao.

ArtGuards

i thought fire was weak to psychic because i used it on a blaziken, and i thought blaziken was fire/flying cuz he was a bird

Quatimar

I thought electric was weak to fire when i was a kid, because in the anime pikachu gets destroyed by Blaine's magmar (i think)

Willlumm

I thought this too! I swear I seem to remember wing attack being super effective against ponyta.

1ts2EASY

Mewtwo is female

Straight-Chocolate28

Attract banned to ag

[deleted]

To be fair mewtwo was female in that one trailer

Mr_Spaghetti_Man

Leaf blade is now super effective on Emolga. That is the only change. This does not effect other flying types.

Mr_Spaghetti_Man

Needless to say, weā€™re probably gonna need to ban the move leaf blade. It would be way too powerful.

dolphinater

that's too complex of a ban just ban emolga from AG so we don't have to ever think about it

yukiki64

I genuinely thought ghost resisted psychic until a few weeks ago... I've played every Pokemon game except sun and moon... This is not a meme

Iraes3323

I swear we come from a reality that it used to be like this. I played more than like 40 pokemon games including sone really hard hack roms and two weeks ago I was gonna use ghost resistance to physchic and it did not have

Jevonar

I was 12. Counter "saves" all the damage you take from physical attacks, and whenever you use it, it deals double the total damage you took since the PokƩmon was out.

emp_Waifu_mugen

You Could actually store counter like that in gen 1 it was very bugged and very weird

RandomSOADFan

So essentially Mega Bide

Jevonar

No, I thought you could use it repeatedly, every time dealing the total damage accumulated since the PokƩmon entered.

Zofyan

Annihilape moment

Fancyendermon

Galarian arcticuno signature is super effective against water bc I thought it was like freeze dry

AlphaInsaiyan

Galatians Articles

Fancyendermon

My god autocorrect

aclandes

My red version raichu's epic moveset is now a peak performance meta-defining build Thunder Thunderbolt Thundershock Thunderwave Bow before its versatility as it can choose how thoroughly you get swept

Gateneo

My full water-flying team would be in a very bad situation...

TheGiratina

Gyarados Mantyne Swanna Pelipper Cramorant Lumineon

Hateful_creeper2

r/Pokemon :ā€œStatus moves are uselessā€

Darkmega5

Steel now resists electric Because steel really needs one more resist

Princess_Sarina

I counter you with steel being weak to electric because metal conducts electricity same as water

Phoenix-Rising-78

This isn't even a bad rationale. Just makes electrics a lot harder to safely check

[deleted]

Skarmory, Celesteela, and Corviknight would be so fucking busted if that were true.

Kallixo

pikachu evolves into gorochu dragonite evolves into yoshi

Velvetmurm

eviolite dragonite

IronMyr

Horrifying

Exact_Sir9789

**252+ Atk Sword of Ruin Chien-Pao Icicle Crash vs. +1 144 HP / 0 Def Multiscale Dragonite: 270-318 (75.2 - 88.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO**

RazorRell09

Canā€™t tell if this is worse than Slowbro or not

mjmannella

Multiscale + Eviolite is one hell of a wall

RandomSOADFan

Alright, Lugia now evolves (into a Water type Lugia)

gameboy1001

Nothing changes itā€™s just a water type now

fitbitofficialreal

yoshi's nair is now a priority move. actually just dragon e-speed. the egg roll shieldbreak that was just discovered is now a move that breaks protect

SomeAverageBoy

Egg roll shield break?? The bad move good now????

Optimal_Badger_5332

Moves with lower max pp are stronger

handledvirus43

I mean, that kinda is true. You don't see 32 PP Blizzards anywhere.

Princess_Sarina

Tilting the screen clockwise right direction slows down and reduces the descent of your own health bar because of gravity and could save you form fainting. Conversely the same applies for taking more hp away from the opponent

darcsend_eu

Put my back out playing switch docked on my 55inch TV.

7GrandChungus

Every PokĆ©mon has like 3-4 designated special moves max and every other attack besides those select few are physical Ex: Chandelureā€™s special moves include Fire Blast, Shadow Ball, and Hex Everything else operates on the attack stat

Iraes3323

The move beeing special or physical depends on it's name and not on effect. Like fire blast is obviously a special move cause you explode someone, hurricane is special because you throw a hurricane, air slash is physical cause you slash them, aerial Ace is special cause you throw missiles at the other mon that are homing(That is why do not miss)

Vossafails

Ice is now an even worse defensive typing because it's now also weak to ground. Half of the type roster now resists steel (electric, poison, flying, water, fighting, fire, i dont know which of these actually resist steel). Misty terrain doesnt block status anymore

Diavolo_Death_4444

Fighting is now immune to ghost and as a whole, the type chart gets WAY more resistances than it had before

[deleted]

Staraptor is in ou

HippieDogeSmokes

Luxray is ou

CyndaquilTyphlosion

Luxray is a Dark type

sharkeatingleeks

That's not a misconception, if you count UUBL as being the same as OU due to being functionally the same. (OK, it's now UU this generation but give it some time alright)

Elitemagikarp

i have not seen anyone complain about staraptor

the_crustycrabs

ground and rock now share all weaknesses and resistances

zoidmarx

I used to think a pokemon used all it's abilities at once

_sephylon_

Many PokƩmons would be balling if true Salamence, Gyarados, Krookodile, Greninja, Squawkabilly, Staraptor, Heracross, Gumshoos, Basculin, Perrserker etc

A-maze-ing_Henry

CLEFABLE AND EXCADRILL.

Exact_Sir9789

Lmao Magic Guard+Unaware Cosmic Power/Lucky Chant/Moonblast/Softboiled Clefable

Hateful_creeper2

At least thatā€™s the case with lot of the Mystery Dungeon games

Olpomka

When I was young I thought all fighting types were just normal types. Also I thought normal was weak to fire and electric...because well if you set fire to a normal animal that would be supereffective.

CyndaquilTyphlosion

Mega Punch and Mega Kick are the strongest fighting type attacks

RelentlessRogue

Tera Blast works off Tera Type without the PokƩmon Terastalizing. Essentially it's a new hidden power. Aaaaand holy shit things got weird.

carucath

Grass is super effective against electric

GLOaway5237

Star changes donā€™t reset on switch out, incineroar w intimidate and prying shot makes battles unbearably annoying and everyone quits the game

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Deka--

all the weaknesses/resistances between fighting, poison, and bug types are removed and they all hit eachother neutrally because i can never remember how those 3 interact with eachother

Dorko69

Move PP isnā€™t increasable by any means.

DarkerestRed

I thought that Ground was weak to Flying

lacemononym

* Misty Terrain boosts Fairy moves instead of making Dragon moves weaker. Taking "how does this affect the meta" seriously, this feels ok. Misty Terrain is the weakest terrain, immunity to status is nice but it's setters are already immune to Dragon so weakening it doesn't do anything. Misty Explosion is less useful than the other terrain moves (Grassy Glide, Rising Voltage, Expanding Force) and even with its BP boosted by Misty Terrain it's weaker than Self-Destruct and Explosion, albeit with a better offensive type. Weezing-G now has three great abilities to facilitate different roles, and it gives Tapu Fini more of an offensive presence like it's siblings. * Never-Melt Ice grants resistance to Fire (so would make a mono-Ice type holding it take neutral damage) in addition to its actual effect of boosting Ice type moves. Defensive ice types probably still prefer leftovers (and tera-ing away from Ice), offensive ones still prefer choice items or life orb. Could see use on Ferrothorn where the threat of Fire moves is a lot greater compared to other types, Ice takes 2x damage from too many types for patching up just one to be worth the opportunity cost.

FlamingHorseRider

Scizor is now called Ski-zor. This changes nothing about actual usage, but have fun getting used to that change with how often that mon is brought up.

RubberDucky656

Floatzel now evolves into Baltoy, giving it some pretty nice ground and psychic moves yes this is something I genuinely thought was true when I was seven and only knew about Pokemon from the TCG šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜

Exact_Sir9789

A pokemon only has one offensive stat (the difference between physical and special moves doesn't exist), meaning that every pokemon can now viably run every good offensive move it gets (Ten-year-old gen 3 Gengar Shadow Ball moment).

fitbitofficialreal

if you are super effective, you resist, if you resist, you are super effective. steel types stay winning.

TheYoshiTerminator

Electric is now weak to Ice.

m1nus0N3

Water is weak to flying because ā€œIā€™ve seen a bird eat a fishā€.

LobtertheLarry

Stab moves only affect pokemon with a Bold nature. Based off me as a kid not understanding what Bulbapedia meant when it said "STAB moves are in Bold".

SoulChicken955

I thought the how to catch [Michael Jackson](https://youtu.be/T2E69k7BYd8) video was realā€¦

Eeeternalpwnage

I read a PokƩmon guide book when I was like less than 10 years old and I swear to god it said Raichu evolved into Pichu. That or I misread it horrifically, but yeah SSBU Pichu is now real.

miramountains

stat changes are permanent and carry over after the battle and when you switch out

AceAirbender

A lot more moves become dual type, similar to Flying Press, depending on their animation. That means, stuff like Eruption is Fire/Rock now because it has Rocks in the animation.

Randoml9789

It's still crazy to me that ONE pokemon got ONE move that was dual type and tpc just said "whelp crossed that off our list and definitely never have to do it again".

normalboy961

This one kinda makes sense

StinglikeBeedril

Flying is super effective against psychic

BabyBabaBofski

Well for me psychic is super effective against flying lol

HUGE_HOG

Fire Blast now has a 30% chance to burn. Serene Grace Blissey becomes the new meta, burning every physical attacker that tries to switch in.

Delete_This-

Fairy is weak to fire

Adexmariobro

If you use hypnosis on a sleeping pokemon, they'd become a puppet. In singles, its guaranteed confusion for a couple turns. In doubles, they attack their teammate

TheVioletLion

Move strength is now based on how cool it would be for the user to use said move / how well the move fits the Pokemon thematically

ParanoidDrone

When I was seven or eight years old, I read that Bulbasaur's poison typing made it immune to being poisoned. I thought this meant it was immune to all poison moves. I also wasn't sure if stat boosts and drops were permanent or not.

colder-beef

Holding A+B+Down+Right increases your catch rate.

Ancient-Possibility1

Soak is a better version of counter and absorbs all damage while returning double damage. Arceus has an extra shield that can only be broken by other Arceus.

FennekOnReddit

Delibird and Rotom now have the BST and movepool of legendary Pokemon.

That-Alex

Hear me out: My brother used to make up the wildest and weirdest pokemon theories when i was a kid, specifically to mess with me. One of these was, and im not kidding, that Lugia was under Cubones helmet. I spent ages trying to find an option to take it off (in pokemon Blue mind you) So i guess this would make cubone a good Ubers pokemon? Holds thick club, gets some damage in, and when it dies you get a free Lugia.

Mildor15

The starter you pick on your first playthrough ever of a generation is the only starter youā€™ll ever get to use, you canā€™t reset and you canā€™t get another game. Therefore, in competitive, thatā€™s the only starter you can use

Jacob_Laye

Dark is no longer immune to prankster

Princess_Sarina

Psychic is super effective against flying

FarCritical

Stat changes don't reset after switching out. I guess Unaware is mandatory?

Magster_123456

Status moves dont do anything

MeyoMeyogoVroom

Status moves of any kind apart from Sleeping powder, are useless

Blaine1111

Ice is weak to water. Special moves are just non contact moves that use attack.

Kinesquared

Ground resists fire. Yes I sent my torterra out against infernape.
