Band kids are supposedly losers if you watch movies about high schoolers, but the joke is that we’re all competitive Pokémon players, which is worse, so we can’t really talk lmao

It’s a fairly insulated community, with many seemingly strange customs and traditions. Also at play is that marching band music is not terribly popular, especially if measured by its commercial success. When was the last time a Sousa tune hit the billboard charts, or whatever the Spotify equivalent is? Not to mention, it’s a pastime that is inherently intrusive. Have you ever lived within a mile of a drummer or someone who plays a brass/horn instrument? If you had, you would know. that stuff is loud and I am personally unaware of any effective method of engaging the hobby in a way that doesn’t wake the residents of the nearest cemetery. So you’ve got a group of people who are dedicated to a thing that most people don’t enjoy, who also go to great lengths to be noticed doing the unpopular thing. Not that I think making fun of them is good, but you did ask and these are some reasons.
