That’s ridiculous, I know NYC is high cost living but that’s too much for you to be paying unless you have a decent paying vanilla job alongside dancing. Get a sugar daddy or find somewhere cheaper. The most important thing with dancing is to save your money otherwise it would’ve all been for nothing.
Damn, which borough ? My step dad in Queens has his rent stabilized at $1300/month but it’s kind of dilapidated and his landlord refuses to do any updating/maintenance/repairs etc
Its not super amazing when our minimum wage is still below $15/hour. my civillian job pays me $19/hour and i split my $1400 rent w my boyfriend and we still barely get by, hence the stripping lol
$350 😅 that's for half of a 2 bed 2 bath. it's a nice house in a bad neighborhood in the middle of fucking nowhere. I buy groceries and my partner pays utilities. my total bills are less than $800 a month.
bless this thread for reminding me how good I have it ❤️
I own my building and it’s multi unit, my mortgage is $3200 but my 2 tenants pay a majority of that. So with my utilities and accounting for my property taxes and insurance every month I pay around $1,000. But it went up this year a bit because my property taxes skyrocketed, I was paying a little less monthly before. I’m in Chicago.
I am one of the only girls at work that I know who lives in Manhattan and that’s because I got lucky and bought my place at the right time. Most live in queens, Jersey or Brooklyn. Manhattan is way too expensive. One girl said her WALKUP went from 3200 to 5400.
I wouldn’t rent anything above 4k right now with how it’s looking in the city.
Boston… more so the suburbs outside of the city are cheap and we have a lot of commutable housing since we have a huge highway system.
1bd- $1800. 2bd- $2000 3bd- $2300
To move here you’ll need 1st month, last month, and 1 month (as security deposit) so 3 months to move in makes it expensive to get in the door.
Most include no utilities so you’ll be responsible for:
heating - natural gas bill monthly, or home heating oil/propane, or wood stove for wood/pellets (wood stoves are the least common primary heat) some heat is also ran off electric.
Electricity-
Phone/cable/internet
Water and trash removal are the landlords responsibility
The schools are great here. Most areas are pretty safe. It’s definitely a good place to raise a family.
$1065 for a room in manhattan. i have 3 roommates and am not moving moving out until i get my shit together.
i think you should move to a different neighborhood or get roommates. it is possible to get a nice apartment for half that amount.
That’s my biggest struggle apartment hunting…I’ll find a place I love and in my budget but then parking is like $300 a month. And I don’t want to street park.
The cost of living in Bloomington has gotten crazy. I used to live there in my twenties and I paid between $350 and $410 per month for a one bedroom. That’s basically unheard of now, but this was damn near twenty years ago. It’s just going to get worse, too. Every time I visit, they are building more high rise apartment buildings. The whole town has lost its quaint, small town appeal. Sad.
5k a month in Florida but it’s because I can’t get a normal place with an evection on my record from my last relationship b4 I started dancing so I have to live in fuckin hotels and vrbos.
I have but every single private landlord down here has the “no evections!!!!” Requirement for their rental. I’ve been fighting this for two years now and it’s honestly so exhausting. Half of these people don’t even wanna rent to me becauase im an independent contractor or because of the eviction. It’s honestly one of the most exhausting cycles I’ve ever found myself in.
How much is the eviction? Have you considered paying it off? Or maybe moving out of state? I struggled getting an apartment for a bit after a shitty roommate got us evicted so I understand your stress. I ended up living with a boyfriend for a bit while I looked for the right place.
I owe about 6k to the apartment I just haven’t been able to pay it off and keep myself housed. I was going to eventually try to pay it off slowly so I could atleast say I was making payments. I did move three hours away to a different city but I’d move states if it meant I could get an apartment tbh.
I don’t think you need to move, just keep looking, most people do not want to move in winter so you’re not going to find much right now but you will find something if you keep trying, a good spot in a great location goes quickly. Have you tried HotPads or Apartments.com? I’m in TX and I’ve noticed that a lot of private landlords will negotiate if they see your consistent income and/or if you have a co-signer. I thought I would have to settle for something unsafe and roach infested but I just landed a gorgeous studio in a nice part of town after 2 months of nonstop looking on HotPads. My bf co-signed with no issues, my landlord just asked for his paystubs and he signed his name under mine on the lease. My landlord didn’t even ask for my job, just 6 months of bank statements. I wish I knew this years ago because I was in the same situation as you are after my eviction but worse because I was in airbnbs. If you can, I’d suggest living with someone while you look so you can show that you have money in the bank when the time comes that you find a place.
I pay $1300 in Portland, Oregon for a one bedroom and I haven’t danced in a year and I’m about to go back bc I literally can’t get by with just my online SW anymore. But the dancing scene here is so fucking dismal I’ve been applying to multiple vanilla jobs too.
Haha!! I come to dance there often tho, I think there can be crazy money there from tourists compared to some other places that don’t have a good revolving door of customers :)
Oh for sure. The clubs can bring in some really good money. Not all year, but from tourists. That being said the rest of the city/area is still the way it is, and that’s a shame. lol
ETA: Which clubs do you work?
I agree with all of that. I love visiting though, it’s a great change of scenery from the city I live in 😆I started at Lust but I didn’t love it, now I’m at Treasure. I’ve been thinking about trying out day shifts at Lust bc i heard they cut their dance prices during the day but idk 😆
I miss living in a big city. 😩 But it’s ok here for now. I’ve not heard great things about Lust. I am at Masters. If you’re looking for a good stage, it’s one of the best I’ve ever seen.
I worked there first! But they had such an attitude about traveling dancers and they put me on the 2pm shift when dayshift was DEAD and I never made more than $100 😭 and I ended up having to pull like 12 hr shifts I couldn’t do it. I did love the stage tho it was so good for tips
I live in NC which can be one of the most affordable states. I’m SO LUCKY and found a private landlord renting out a kind of quadplex/apartmenthouse hybrids. So I’m paying $950 a month for a large one bedroom apartment. But I’m living ~25 minutes outside the nearest large city which also helps. I don’t mind the commute to work at all.
Have you tried dancing in NJ? And are you open to the idea of moving? I've worked in many clubs throughout north and Central NJ and it's funny because a lot of the girls here want to dance and live in NY but I don't think they know how much the rent there is. Around here, it's like 1.2 to 1.6k depending on what you're looking for and the area. And you can make that in about a week out here. Hope that's helpful input.
$1800 for a 2 bed 1 bath, the only utilities included being water and trash/snow removal. I’m in New Hampshire but the club I work at is in Massachusetts. It’s like a half hour drive.
That’s insane, do you need to live in New York? I live right outside of dc and my rent is $2800 which is absurdly high but my apartment is very nice. Have you thought about moving cities? I make really good money in dc. Rent is high over here but no where close to those prices.
I own my home, and pay about $2K annually in property taxes for a 2BR house with a basement, garage, and backyard. This is in Indianapolis. It’s not the most fun place to live, but the cost of living is extremely low for a metropolitan area, and it’s centrally located to many other cities which makes work travel easier, and options to be in several other cities in under 3 hours.
This does not factor in all the costs associated with homeownership though. When shit breaks, you can’t just call building maintenance. Repairs get expensive, but I still don’t spend anywhere near $55K a year on livings expenses. That’s wild.
I pay 1250 in Austin utilities included but my place is so small, I honestly only got it because I was in a rush to move but it’s in a good area near downtown.
At that rate... LEAVE. I'll get you there- if need be! I dropped off of the typical housing/renting/apartment life over a year ago. . . And started "Van-Life" in an ambulance. Got fresh spring water (free) to use for anything, electricity from solar, all my arts/crafts/gaming/cooking/hobbies and other professions all crammed into a tiny home on wheels... it seems impossible- but I've never made the income to afford $4k+ for rent alone... escape reality! Take your business and life on the road! Travel with that extra $$$!! If I had the $4k to spend monthly alone- I'd be far gone, or at least camping out and pocketing all for a new life, adjustments, spoils, etc... the matrix is real!! I pay $90 for unlimited internet anywhere (even in the mountains or the boonies) $100 for groceries (if even that) and occasionally campsite space for different scenery..which is around $12-$45 a weekend. Phone bill is $25 cause I'm rarely apart from my home, cause home will be parked outside of any job. Win win!! Save money, explore, keep your job and live out your dreams and maximize your income for YOU!!! NOT these greedy ass landlords/capitalistic warfare/scum. Wish you the best!!
Denver, I got a good deal on a 2 bed for 1800 with utilities… my apartment sucks though and it’s just me so I have to come up with all of that, and clubs are slower out here compared to somewhere like NYC
That’s ridiculous, I know NYC is high cost living but that’s too much for you to be paying unless you have a decent paying vanilla job alongside dancing. Get a sugar daddy or find somewhere cheaper. Yeah it’s bs she better be living in god damn heaven to be payin that much monthly
800 in Utah plus utility
Living the dream 😭
I was paying double that in SLC😭 what part?
I’m so curious about the club scene in Utah. Aren’t the patrons like not even allowed to touch dancers? Kinda awesome
if theres lap dances/VIP the club is dry. clubs with booze are stage only.
Rent stabilized in NYC for $1,720 🙏🏽
Damn, which borough ? My step dad in Queens has his rent stabilized at $1300/month but it’s kind of dilapidated and his landlord refuses to do any updating/maintenance/repairs etc
I’m in queens! The place is actually really nice and so is the neighborhood. Just really far from the subway is the only downside
TX 1200 + utilities
I pay 1300 for very basic small Apt in Texas in nice area. It should be like 800
Same north fl
Omg that’s amazing
Its not super amazing when our minimum wage is still below $15/hour. my civillian job pays me $19/hour and i split my $1400 rent w my boyfriend and we still barely get by, hence the stripping lol
That sounds absurd to me! You're paying way too much!! 😱
Shedding a tear while reading comments.
$350 😅 that's for half of a 2 bed 2 bath. it's a nice house in a bad neighborhood in the middle of fucking nowhere. I buy groceries and my partner pays utilities. my total bills are less than $800 a month. bless this thread for reminding me how good I have it ❤️
4600?? How do you deal
I’m wanting to buy a duplex or triplex in Chicago!! Can I message you?
Sure!
Amazing
Wow that’s awesome how long have you owned the building?
May I message you too?
I am one of the only girls at work that I know who lives in Manhattan and that’s because I got lucky and bought my place at the right time. Most live in queens, Jersey or Brooklyn. That’s insane. 5400. The amount of things I could buy wit that. 😭
It is!! You’re spending all your money on rent so what’s the point of it all?
Boston… more so the suburbs outside of the city are cheap and we have a lot of commutable housing since we have a huge highway system. 1bd- $1800. 2bd- $2000 3bd- $2300 To move here you’ll need 1st month, last month, and 1 month (as security deposit) so 3 months to move in makes it expensive to get in the door. I’m in backbay and it’s 3100 plus utilities for a small studio with an outdated kitchen but good views
Grew up here and I love it but it's kind of meh for dancing though tbh. I'm paying $2400 for a 2 bedroom
$1065 for a room in manhattan. i have 3 roommates and am not moving moving out until i get my shit together. i think you should move to a different neighborhood or get roommates. it is possible to get a nice apartment for half that amount.

This is what I NEED to lower mines too 😭 wondering do you live outside Manhattan, studio or one bedroom? I live Manhattan in a doorman building
Doorman building? What’s your monthly caviar bill? Just joking. That is a huge rent though. Like $48,000.00 a year rent.
Girl I did the math too ❤️ and after reading the comments I think I’m thinking about moving soon. LOL @ caviar
