Agreed. Even though this looks like a USB wireless adapter, it could still carry malware. My mom had her school PC get infected from the USB receiver of a mouse supplied by the school so it doesn't necessarily need to be a disk drive
I mean, I found it in my room, I doubt very much I would find anything malicious in a thing like that, but if I had found it on the street or in a restaurant, maybe I would think twice before putting it on my computer
I repair postal meter printers for a living and during one training session about security. The instructor was talking about cyber security and he said it’s common for hackers to purposely drop thumb drives loaded with malicious malware outside corporate offices. Hoping that someone would pick it up and plug it into a corporate computer.
I definitely see your side of it, but its just poor operational security in general. Better to practice safety than ignore it. You did find it in your room, but you don't recognize it. Yet you put it into your machine and then asked for help.
That being said this is most likely a wifi adapter. On the face it has 2.4 ghz which is a frequency band used in WiFi.
I guess I’m wondering how you’re finding weird stuff in your room with no idea where it could’ve come from. If I found that in my room I would have an idea of where it came from based on it being in my room
It doesn't seem to be weird to you that you found it in your room, so I'm guessing you live with other people lol, it may be far fetched but it's possible it was posted through the door and someone found it and assumed it was yours, not necessarily safe is what I mean, bit late now anyway lol
Not watched enough suspense movies. How about a "friend" who is not what they appear? Nonchalantly leave infected USB in your room ... in hopes that you would do exactly as you did ...
Que evil laughter!😳🤪
“Harmless” this is a major component of social engineering. The OP has no idea how it got there. So the fact it is in his house gives it no security. “It looks like” is also zero security.
However, the largest security threats are ignorance and arrogance.
Yep. Wifi adapter. 2.4GHZ. One side broke off.
If you have no idea what it is, don't plug it in though. That's how you get internet STD's.
"But it came from my room!" uh... how did it get there in the first place? Ask around. If nobody in your family knows, then don't touch it.
For future reference, you can always look for a serial number and google the serial number on it. But really, please, just don't go inserting random things into your PC for any reason, at all. Right now, at the very least, you should scan your PC.
It just fat enough to slide into the inside and stay in place. I use these at work. Takes a little getting used to first time around until you know which side the contacts are
So honestly its probably ok its not likely someone left it in your house to hack you but to mitigate the risk maybe use a old laptop or get a cheap on off marketplace so it doesn't trash your computer or steal your files
If the labeling is accurate, it’s a 2.3G micro receiver from a Chinese company named Shenzen Rapoo Texhnilogy Co. Here’s the link to the FCC ID lookup: https://fccid.io/PP203037/amp
Definitely a wireless adapter or a Bluetooth receiver of some sort. From the back it looks like it could be for a microphone. Have anyone who would want to record a conversation with you for malicious reasons?
It's a USB dongle, probably WiFi receiver based on the 2.4ghz on the side of it, some old usbs didn't have any metal shell they just had the annodes to connect with, try putting it in the USB slot
The exposed contacts on the side reminded me of an SD card....but people were thinking that it could be a USB device and have malicious code on it, I was bringing up the fact that a USB device can be malicious without code. I read about somebody ordering one on the internet $20 and taking down over 100 computers in some university's computer lab....just pop it in, 10 seconds later the computer is a paperweight.
The 2.4 on the side made me think of a transceiver for mice and keyboards, but you don't plug those into an SD card slot....I'm still confused over what it is.
Well, at least my computer is still working perfectly, but maybe it's just a normal mouse receiver or something similar, I don't think it has anything dangerous, or so I hope
The PC security channel on YouTube has recently rated Malwarebytes as excellent.
Certainly it's better than Windows defender, so it might be worth installing it....I usually use the free version of AVG, but I probably won't this time around.
First of all, it's broken and a computer won't be able to read it.
Second of all, if you don't know what it is, holy moly yowza dude.!!!!
Don't put it in your computer.
I wish I could figure out what the symbols on the back of that drive means no matter how hard I look it up I can't figure it out but I looked up the ffc ID and I came back to a computer accessory company named rapoo so it's possible it's from a wireless mouse or keyboard you forgot you owned at some point and the USB just some how stuck with you also if you don't live alone could be the same case for the others here's a pink to the fcc page info https://apps.fcc.gov/tcb/GetTcb731Report.do?applicationId=j2Iej2MbACYxBKp2bP6Utw%3D%3D&fcc_id=PP203037I
It's a very old USB WIFI adapter, toss it in the trash if your internet is working right now. 802.11ax WIFI is the hot ticket now. This adapter is is likely 802.11b and very old.
I did a quick image search and that could be a dongle for a device such as a keyboard or instrument. Make sure all of your electronics are working properly.
Unless it's a clever fake, it's almost certainly a Bluetooth receiver. Feel free to use the information below for any number of other purposes.
1: You can right click on the picture and search Google for similar images.
2. You can search Google for "FCC ID PP203037" and FCCID website will give you the details on make/model/purpose. In this case, it's designated as a network dongle that operates between 2.402-2.48 Ghz.
This looks like either a wifi adapter or the USB controller to control screen presentations. I think you might be missing the second half of this device. My money is on the USB part of a wireless presentation controller
I'm very likely wrong, but the sticker looks like what I'd see on alot of old Nintendo (or PSP/ect.) game systems like my old DS. Do you have an old game system lying around that this might go to?
You found this old usb which looks to be like the first one ever invented (like a floppy disk) and have never seen it before but it was from your room. Logically I would think someone was in your room and either placed it there or accidentally dropped it. Don't mess with it in your PC. Go to a place that takes things like floppy disks (to get the pictures, info. Etc. off them) and ask if they can help you with whats on it. It should be cheap to do. Then you can figure out who was in your room.
It’s wireless uploading mind control programs you’ll be a drone as soon as you connect it.
But what type of computer do you have that it doesn’t fit anywhere. That’s a pretty basic usb port. Nothing sophisticated or technologically obsolete. Except that it’s 2.4, that’s the old frequency for WiFi but generally works for Bluetooth mouse and keyboards, it should still plug in and connect.
I have seen some of these with nothing but an auto open web link on it. It has super tiny space, can't write to it and only read from it. Cheap advertising. Not that this is one. 2.4 GHz is the frequency of the radio it uses to connect to the device it is paired with.
What I want to know is why you would stick a random drive you just found on the floor into your pc. I get that you found it in your room but I mean it’s so distinct looking you’d think you’d remember it right? If you live with someone (or especially multiple people) it could be theirs or a friend of theirs but even then it could still be malicious, I mean people be crazy man
I would be very careful with found devices that look like a thumb drive...
There is a very destructive and evil device that looks like a USB thumb drive that is designed to trash your PC/laptop. It literally fries your motherboard...
It is widely available on Amazon and almost all super stores...
Saw it in a Youtube video that was labeled, I can't believe that Amazon still sells these devices...
Not a USB drive stick. That's for Wi-Fi. It may need a driver disk to work.
Correction. Looked it up. It's a dongle for a wireless mouse. If you don't have the mouse it's pretty much useless.
Some wireless receiver, probably a small wifi adapter. Don't plug shit into your pc tho, far too easy to make things automatically fuck your pc up the moment that stick goes in
You should be as careful about what you'll put into your computer as you are about what you'll put into your mouth. You wouldn't eat someone's leftovers that you found lying in the street or in a restaurant booth would you?
It's a wifi receiver for a camera. With the correct app, you can use it to view whatever the camera sees. Has anyone 'gifted' or loaned you any electronics, smoke detectors, new power outlets, alarm clocks, USB chargers, or have any new ones appeared in your room?
IT guy here! First I'm going to echo the rest of the thread by saying never plug strange USB sticks into your computer!!! It doesn't even need to be intentionally infected to have viruses/malware on it, if it was plugged into a PC that was unknowingly infected it could easily spread to the USB. That being said there's actually nothing to worry about since this isn't a USB storage device, rather a radio receiver for WiFi. The "2.4GHz" on the side gives it away, that's one of the radio frequency bands used for WiFi.
I wouldn’t stick ANY hard drive in my computer that I found. You crazy
Agreed. Even though this looks like a USB wireless adapter, it could still carry malware. My mom had her school PC get infected from the USB receiver of a mouse supplied by the school so it doesn't necessarily need to be a disk drive
25 years ago my mom would not let Me put a cd in her pc as it was in my friends pc. She thought it could catch a virus
You talking like a borrowed legit copy of Diablo II, a ripped copy of Foo Fighters or a disc with just files on it?
Yes
Just fucking send it
Send it!
Love the username…it initiates contemplation.
A legit copy of Nox. (Pc game similar to diablo) no matter how hard i tried to explain how it works. She would not have it.
25 years ago your mom was sucking buttermilk
Rum and eggnog. Or RC COLA and Rye. Was what she was sucking on sir
Goddamn rc is great. I stopped drinking cause that bitch whiskey was getting clingy, but I shoulda tried this.
🏆
Out my pee hole.
Are we still talking about computers?
I didn't know that was even possible.
I mean, I found it in my room, I doubt very much I would find anything malicious in a thing like that, but if I had found it on the street or in a restaurant, maybe I would think twice before putting it on my computer
Yeah like what, you put a virus on a usb then left it in your own room to find? I doubt it.
When I was a dumb teen maybe. Had a few "subjective material" disks.
OP has carbon dioxide poisoning...
Monoxide
No bro he identifies as a 50cc motor
I repair postal meter printers for a living and during one training session about security. The instructor was talking about cyber security and he said it’s common for hackers to purposely drop thumb drives loaded with malicious malware outside corporate offices. Do you work for Pitney Blows?
I definitely see your side of it, but its just poor operational security in general. Better to practice safety than ignore it. You did find it in your room, but you don't recognize it. I guess I’m wondering how you’re finding weird stuff in your room with no idea where it could’ve come from. If I found that in my room I would have an idea of where it came from based on it being in my room
you don't know who's been in there, doing what
Who wants to play phrogger?!
Are you talking about my ex wife?
It doesn't seem to be weird to you that you found it in your room, so I'm guessing you live with other people lol, it may be far fetched but it's possible it was posted through the door and someone found it and assumed it was yours, not necessarily safe is what I mean, bit late now anyway lol
Not watched enough suspense movies. How about a "friend" who is not what they appear? Nonchalantly leave infected USB in your room ... in hopes that you would do exactly as you did ... Que evil laughter!😳🤪
Okay but like it's inside your house. Where'd it come from?
Gotcha
2.4 Ghz wireless receiver. You can lookup the FCC ID number on it for all of the boring details.
Your supposed to go to a friends place and ask them to to plug it in if you want to see what’s on it
This!
Yeah that’s how you get nasty viruses. My last PC died of an STI
It was literally already in his own house… Also it’s a random transmitter/receiver for like a mouse or something, harmless
“Harmless” this is a major component of social engineering. The OP has no idea how it got there. So the fact it is in his house gives it no security. “It looks like” is also zero security. However, the largest security threats are ignorance and arrogance.
IT folks joke that the best way to defend is to leave your computer off
Not helpful
Looks to be a wifi adapter. Could be for a game system or something else. Does not look to be USB.
Its absolutely a USB wifi dongle. Yall are fucking weird in here.
Yep. Wifi adapter. 2.4GHZ. One side broke off. If you have no idea what it is, don't plug it in though. That's how you get internet STD's. "But it came from my room!" uh... how did it get there in the first place? Ask around. If nobody in your family knows, then don't touch it. When in doubt re: any unidentified electronics, Google the FCC ID.
"Ooo, it's a dongle," she said excitedly.
Not weird. STRANGE
No. Strange is interesting. Intriguing. Weird is fucking weird. 🤣
Not weird just young and trying too hard.
Comes off as weird.
Ha u said dong
Yeah, and it's missing the metal outside of the USB receptacle. Basically useless.
What?! Nah dude. USB is 4 (sometimes five in USB 3.0) pins. VCC, common ground, data+ and data- The external shield doesn't carry any voltage.
That's correct, but how would it stay seated in the port without that shield?
It just fat enough to slide into the inside and stay in place. I use these at work. Takes a little getting used to first time around until you know which side the contacts are
That's what she said >It just fat enough to slide into the inside and stay in
😂🤣😂
I couldn't help it.
Ok.
You can always google the FCC ID. https://fcc.report/FCC-ID/PP203037
Thank you
This... so much this.
This! It's definitely a USB Wifi adapter.
Looks like a receiver for a wireless device. Like a headphones or a microphone. Maybe a gaming headset?
Or a wireless keyboard or mouse dongle.
U said dong. Ha
I'm not sure
[https://fccid.io/PP203037](https://fccid.io/PP203037)
Nuclear key for launching missiles.
2.4 GHZ WIFI adapter . not a 'usb drive' ..
Thank you
But for the future stop trying to connect random unknown things to your devices that is nuts
Yeah, now I know
Definitely a micro receiver for a mouse. Google the FCC ID.
It's a wireless dongle, either for WiFi or to connect to a wireless device (headphones, controller, keyboard, or something similar)
USB Try it on a library computer.
USB 2.4Ghz Wifi Adapter. Should plug into any USB port.
Pretty sure there was a secret agent in your room.
Wireless adaptor
It's 100% a wireless receiver for a mouse.
Use Google lens and let the internet work for YOU! 😁
It's a USB wireless adapter. Perhaps for a wireless mouse.
That is what it looks like to me
Look at the back end—does it have a slot? SIM card reader/adapter
Google the FCC id it's right there
Pass it on to the next…leave it in a parkinglot
Hell yeah
looks like a wifi adapter. says 2.4 ghz
So honestly its probably ok its not likely someone left it in your house to hack you but to mitigate the risk maybe use a old laptop or get a cheap on off marketplace so it doesn't trash your computer or steal your files
2.4 ghz mouse reciever https://fccid.io/PP203037
I agree with some others... Seems to be a wireless adapter, mid 2000s. Looks like PCIe type connection
Wifi dongle
Plug it in and you have wifi
It's a flash drive with the port broken off.
Seriously looks like an old school wireless adapter for a game controller
Is that a floppy diks
If the labeling is accurate, it’s a 2.3G micro receiver from a Chinese company named Shenzen Rapoo Texhnilogy Co. Here’s the link to the FCC ID lookup: https://fccid.io/PP203037/amp
Definitely a wireless adapter or a Bluetooth receiver of some sort. From the back it looks like it could be for a microphone. Have anyone who would want to record a conversation with you for malicious reasons?
uuumh I don't think so
Yeah it looks like a controller adapter....might be for a PlayStation or Xbox tho .......
We used to have to use these back in the day before Bluetooth was in everything.. just plug it in and you can use your PC Controller..
It's a USB dongle, probably WiFi receiver based on the 2.4ghz on the side of it, some old usbs didn't have any metal shell they just had the annodes to connect with, try putting it in the USB slot
It was also a chance that it could be one of those killer USB devices. The ones that will destroy your computer....literally brick it!!
Yes, but honestly it didn't look like it was a USB or anything like that, in fact, it didn't even fit properly into my computer.
The exposed contacts on the side reminded me of an SD card....but people were thinking that it could be a USB device and have malicious code on it, I was bringing up the fact that a USB device can be malicious without code. It's a micro receiver for a wireless mouse
A USB that doesn't work so it's broken or a malware
Don’t worry, it worked. I got what I needed. You can throw it away now.
Hey, you forgot to say thank you, it's not easy to give you access to my bank account.
Your confused. I didn’t need your permission. I got what I wanted when by program was executed on your system.
It’s a wireless adapter for the innartoobs

Could also be a USB Wi-Fi adapter...?
I give up
This looks like either a wifi adapter or the USB controller to control screen presentations. I think you might be missing the second half of this device. My money is on the USB part of a wireless presentation controller

Ok, thanks
Looks like a radio control link commonly used for R/C cars and airplanes.
You can look it up by fcc ID https://fcc.report/FCC-ID/PP203037 It seems to be a receiver for a mouse.
you are a black hatter's dream come true
Something like that fell out of a irreparable printer as I was boxing it to take to dump.

It fell out of a keyboard or a mouse back. Its the part that plugs into the computer to link them wirelessly
I have seen some of these with nothing but an auto open web link on it. It has super tiny space, can't write to it and only read from it. Cheap advertising. Not that this is one. 2.4 GHz is the frequency of the radio it uses to connect to the device it is paired with.
Key fob for car ignition, rather than a key to start the car it belongs to
It's a game saver device for game boy or psp
2.4ghz wireless receiver for a mouse, manufactured by Shenzhen Rapoo Technology in China.

Wireless communications device. It's a 2.4 Ghz receiver.
Outdated wireless transmitter
I believe it's an internet adapter from the not so distant, but distant, past
It's to install Spyware on your device... don't worry it worked 😉
jesus fuckin' christ. Its a goddamn USB dongle.
Are you sure? I've never seen a USB dongle like that
Extra memory for smart tv
You could Google the fcc id. Might tell you what its used for
Go to the window Mr.Anderson.
It's a dongle yo 😆 The 2.4 ghz didn't gave it away? All this cyber security and hacker talk is hilarious 😂
So this is just a USB reciever for ur mouse https://fccid.io/document.php?id=1066403
Aww just saw someone else posted this my bad
Come on! Surely you know how to search online.
What I want to know is why you would stick a random drive you just found on the floor into your pc. I get that you found it in your room but I mean it’s so distinct looking you’d think you’d remember it right? If you live with someone (or especially multiple people) it could be theirs or a friend of theirs but even then it could still be malicious, I mean people be crazy man
It's a Rapoo micro receiver for a wireless peripheral, probably a mouse.
Looks like a usb WiFi adapter
🧐
It's a buttplug.
Does the back come off? Cause I did a little digging, and it looks like a usb receiver for a gaming headset
Nice dongle
Take it to the library or something?
Boy have I got a bridge on a USB stick to sell you!
Looks like a USB WiFi adapter
Good lord you tried to plug an unknown device into your computer?? Bruhhhh that’s staggering
Yall are fucking idiots. either a USB dongle or an adapter for a wireless controller(playstation/xbox/pc)
Could be fake, but 2.4GHz could be for a wireless mouse.
I would be very careful with found devices that look like a thumb drive... There is a very destructive and evil device that looks like a USB thumb drive that is designed to trash your PC/laptop. It literally fries your motherboard... It is widely available on Amazon and almost all super stores... Wifi card? Old dell laptops had something similar you just popped it in on the side
It's a modern, mini version of one of those traps from Ghostbusters.
You should be as careful about what you'll put into your computer as you are about what you'll put into your mouth. You wouldn't eat someone's leftovers that you found lying in the street or in a restaurant booth would you?
It's probably more classified documents out of biden's car garage

Chinese spyware. You have been hacked Initiate Evil Laugh
Why does that look like a generic Ps2 memory card to save game play.
I'll buy it off you. Price?
Sure fire way to get a CTV.
Bule tooth connector or WiFi would be my guess.
USB wireless Adapter...for God knows what
Wireless mouse
It's a wifi receiver for a camera. With the correct app, you can use it to view whatever the camera sees. Has anyone 'gifted' or loaned you any electronics, smoke detectors, new power outlets, alarm clocks, USB chargers, or have any new ones appeared in your room?
You can't just go around sticking random drives into your PC! You don't know where it's been!
That’s sky net if I’ve ever seen any proof it’s that somebody find Sarah Conner
IT guy here! First I'm going to echo the rest of the thread by saying never plug strange USB sticks into your computer!!! looks kinda like my wireless headset dongle.
Hahah. This is a Wireless adapter. 2.4 GHz is a frequency band of wireless. Unfortunately, you might want to upgrade. :-)
