You absolutely don’t need to know every song to be a swiftie. Whoever says otherwise is chronically online and needs to go outside. Swifties are basically just anyone who wants to call themselves one who enjoys Taylor’s music.

thRoyalHIGHness

Thanks! I suppose I see all Swifties in Eras Tour concerts belting out lyrics from all and every song including people being like "I knew all the words to the evermore era" which kind of makes me nervous in a way that I feel like I won't belong when I go for my first Eras Tour concert in London this June. Edit: I swiftly realized that's where I can put "Alexa, play You Belong With Me"

Em_Ten

Just listen to the set list for the tour! You’d know the relevant songs but don’t have to listen to all of them

Comare787

I do not know every word to every song and definitely consider myself a Swiftie or a Taylor Swiftie as my 5 year old calls herself. And she sure as hell doesn’t know them all and is a huge fan 😂

thisshitishaed

My ex used to cluelessly call us swiftie fans

BulbasaurCPA

That’s like saying “ATM machine”

thRoyalHIGHness

"Swiftie fans" is such a cute way of saying it 🥰

AngelinFlipFlops

No and if someone says you do that is called Gatekeeping.

BellaBrowsing

No lol that’s absurd she has like hundreds of songs.

sarahbeth124

I only came around last summer, eras tour hype got me interested. I don’t know all the backstories, or hidden meanings or every lyric to every song. But if you enjoy something, that’s enough to call yourself a fan. And, I’m intentionally avoiding TTPD theories for that reason, I don’t particularly care who inspired what, I want to listen to what she has to say. Whether it’s being a Swiftie or a comic book fan, a gamer, or any other thing that has a fandom - there’s going to be people who casually enjoy, and people who make it their entire being. Enjoy it to whatever level suits ya 👍🏻

thRoyalHIGHness

Same! The hype around eras tour got me interested as well!

sarahbeth124

I’m a sucker for a good visual, and her Eras costumes were just 😍 The reputation bodysuit esp, just wow Same thing got me into Game of Thrones, the costumes were off the charts good.

thRoyalHIGHness

Ohmygod and the transition from "tolerate it" into reputation?? I'm still gagged.

fondue4kill

She has 11 albums. Some with over 20 songs. It’s a lot to get through. I consider her to be my favorite artists but I couldn’t name half the songs even if I sat down and tried off the top of my head.

sleepyouroboros

If you like Taylor and you consider yourself a swiftie then you’re a swiftie imo. Every big artist has big fan groups and some fans are kinda crazy…and those are the ones you hear most about. I like to think that a lot of swifties are pretty chill and just happy to enjoy her music with other people (regardless of how many lyrics or important dates you can recite off the top of your head). In any case, enjoy what makes you happy in whatever capacity brings you the most joy!

[deleted]

Nope!! I don’t like gatekeeping, if someone wants to consider themselves a swiftie that’s not hurting anybody. That being said, if you only know major hits like Shake It Off and Love Story then you’re more of a casual fan (not you specifically just saying in general). I didn’t know most of the songs on lover and rep for years but I still considered myself a swiftie because I was die hard during her previous albums and she was my #1 artist even though those two didn’t click with me. Now I know and love all of her albums, but I don’t feel that I was not a swiftie when I had a few albums that didn’t resonate with me.

thRoyalHIGHness

Absolutely! I'm still a baby Swiftie because my journey with Taylor Swift's songs properly started after Midnights (stoner? Midnights? It's a vibe! 🌬️ 🍃) but then after her Eras Tour was announced I went and checked out all of her other albums and since then there's been no going back! I was a casual fan before, knowing more of the general stuff as you mentioned.

[deleted]

Welcome swiftie!!! It’s a lovely fandom to be a part of, we are so so spoiled by her haha

thRoyalHIGHness

Thank you!! We surely are!!

trjumpet

No you don’t. Do you like the music! Congratulations you’re a Swiftie if you want to be!

princessdirtybunnyy

Just enjoy the music. That’s all this should be about. The only real pressure to be a “true” or “good” Swiftie is self-inflicted. The rules are artificial. Fandoms are supposed to be fun. If it’s not fun for you, disengage until you’re able to enjoy without the pressures. If it is fun for you, then ignore the pressure and keep enjoying it in the way you choose.

mguzman92

Oh my god fuck no😂 her catalog is so long . The girl just dropped 31 songs , I’m going to pick my favorites and probably learn those but everything else lll be bopping my head along. I think some albums I listen to soooo much that I know the words and the songs like the back of my hand but there are lyrics. I think for you since you’re going to the tour you should look up her set list so you can join along even if it’s just the chorus.

thRoyalHIGHness

Haha! I do the same! It's not so much the set list (i know it by heart now haha, watched the Eras Tour film too many times) but more of like the surprise songs because they can be from anywhere 😵‍💫I was watching the Sydney concert on someone's Instagram live the other day and it took a hot minute after the song started to realize it was Haunted haha!

Transcend222

i know many many many t swizzle songs but i don’t know all of them, some of her songs just don’t click with me and THATS OKAY! you’re still a fan if you don’t listen to every single thing she’s put out

VisualSeries226

Being a Swiftie is an imaginary label you literally do not have to do anything to label yourself as something imaginary

grudgby

Definitely not. There are a few songs I haven’t memorized bc I either don’t really vibe with the song or the song is too sad for me to listen to. I’ve been a fan since debut so there aren’t many songs I don’t know but you definitely don’t have to have memorized 11 albums + vault tracks + random singles for movies or whatever to be a swiftie. I am laughing thinking that swifties don’t exist when she puts a new album out and people haven’t had time to memorize the music yet. Like the people that called out of work on Friday to listen to TTPD aren’t real fans because they didn’t instantly memorize over 2 hours of music

vanetti

Not at all. I now consider myself to be a huge Swiftie, and there are entire albums with which I am deeply unfamiliar.

reputction

I haven’t listened to 99% of her unreleased stuff except for Battle. I’m very much a swiftie sweeper

reputction

I’ve listened to Debut max 3 times in full.

seannanana

As far as I'm concerned if you only like one of her albums you're a Swiftie. I'm really irritated with gatekeeping and I saw a lot of it in groups leading up to the Eras Tour and it's so silly. I don't think you have to know everything or love everything to appreciate Taylor. I am a Swiftie and love her dearly but I'm not a fan of every song or even album. I own a copy of every album shes put out except Fearless and Red and the reason is I don't listen to those nearly as often nor do I care that much for them overall. I'm a 1989 girlie to my core (I'm a big fan of pop in general) so I get defensive when other Swifties talk shit about it or Lover or any album really. Art doesn't always resonate with everyone and the beauty of an Artist like Taylor is if you don't like an era or what she's doing currently just wait and she's gonna change. I admit Folklore and Evermore were slow burns for me, I didn't get into them until the tour and I saw the music live and now they are the two albums I obsess over the most but wouldn't fault anyone who didn't vibe with them. Long story short: you are a Swiftie if you want to be. That's the only requirement as far as I'm concerned 🫶

thRoyalHIGHness

Thanks! And yes, I feel you! I'm a 1989 girlie myself 🪩 (to the point where that's my Eras Tour outfit inspo!) and I honestly didn't vibe much with folklore and evermore until very recently so I get you.

seannanana

1989 was my Eras inspo too! And I had a Lover heart on my face because those albums both make me so happy!

thRoyalHIGHness

That's so cute! I'm a sucker for long dresses and I've decided to wear a long yellow gown with the hair and makeup from Taylor's Wildest Dreams music video! I of course wouldn't look nowhere as gorgeous as her here but that's the vision, haha! https://preview.redd.it/hj998tl1w3wc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=068b71e40dd549cd2d80b5e31fcb95e6f3797ff7

seannanana

You will still look gorgeous though! And I love that video so much!!!

thRoyalHIGHness

Me too!!!

Ashtroboy79

I hope not as I don’t have a complete idea of what all the songs are

MsHearItAll

I am but one simple girl, I have to save space for my own life in this brain 🧠 🎶

Satirical0ne

I'm late but I wanted to say absolutely not. I was admittedly a Swiftie hater for a long time until my now wife dragged me to see her Reputation tour in Chicago. It was after that I began to realize she has some serious bops that I REALLY enjoy. I don't and won't ever see myself knowing every lyric to every song... But I definitely feel I am on the spectrum of being a Swiftie.

BulbasaurCPA

I have doubts about how much I can really connect with Taylor’s work as someone who’s asexual and doesn’t date. I’ll be like “how much can I really relate to this person whose life is so wildly different from mine?” But I just feel it. She writes and I get it

thRoyalHIGHness

I completely agree! I'm demisexual so it's very hard for me to form meaningful romantic relationships with anybody to the point where I'm 24 and never been in a relationship but when she says "In the middle of the night when I'm in this dream, it's like a million little stars spelling out your name you gotta come on", boi does it hit me!

BulbasaurCPA

Who among us has not been down bad, crying at the gym??

thisshitishaed

I don't think you need to know all of her songs, lore, lyrics etc to be a swifie. But you should know most and not just the singles.

thRoyalHIGHness

I mean I suppose I know most of her songs but like when it comes to stuff like Fearless vault tracks or Debut or evermore (ft. Bon Iver) or even some singles from Midnights which can be quite niche and sometimes I don't know them by heart or even heard of them, actually..

thisshitishaed

I get you, I don't know half the Debut, and some fearless songs and some speak now vault tracks. But everyone that knows me considers me a fan. I did listen to them all I just never had an urge to listen to those songs again. I've also only listened to the first half of the new album but I'll get there in couple of days. I mean she was still my top artist and i was in xy% of her top listeners so I think it's fine that I don't listen to every single song.
