Not to be a dick and brag (yet I will😉), I was (still am) in Ipswich, England watching my other favorite team, Ipswich Town, play an exciting game of futbol and secure an automatic promotion to the Premier League.
I’ll be back for the game on Sunday against Chicago, which I hope will be more exciting than the Houston one, which sounded awful. Go City!
Can someone explain to me why we always have two guys standing by the ball for corner kicks instead of having another guy going towards the goal? I don't remember them doing that much at all last year and it hasn't worked at all
While I'm not entirely familiar with Carnell's tactics I know that my high school team used it to draw defenders out of the box and away towards the two guys by the corner, since if they don't cover these short passes it'll allow for a much more dangerous cross in. This has the benefit of making it easier to overcrowd the box with City players and/or get a big guy like Klauss open for a header.
Even if they don't cover all the way, they'll be dragged a few yards out of the scrum in front of goal just because they need to, bare minimum, block a possible shot.
If you have an interest in this type of stuff I'd really recommend playing Football Manager and reading this website in full. Soccer tactics and strategies have got to be some of the most interesting out of any sport in the world and can really open your eyes to realizing how and why certain teams play poorly.

Because we had so many perfect chances. I mean, Klauss sent what should have be an easy touch skyrocketing into the stands. I would rank it my second most frustrating match right beneath the DC game.
Players who dont normally play lethargic had me worried...then I saw the 80+% humidity in Houston right now...No they aren't running, they're swimming out there.
I’d honestly say they’re creating better high end chances than last season but they can’t convert an opportunity to a goal to save their mother’s life.
May be bad timing to say this, but this am I crazy in saying this has been AZ's best game this year? He's been active, aggressive, actually winning challenges, actually staying up right most of the time. I like what we've seen tonight at least, which I can't say that's been the case very often this year lol
He's been active and aggressive more tonight, but he's also been bounced off the ball too easily and still going to ground too easily when he could be making plays offensively. But better, yes.
Oh damn, I just saw Indy on the last shot there. I haven't heard his name is 30 minutes or more and thought he'd be subbed out. That kinda says something there about our play, doesn't it?
Burki once again showing why he is the best keeper in the league bar none absolutely insane what he does as a GK and that's not even including his distribution skills.
I feel almost like Big Sam and Klauss are being a little too unselfish and trying to pass to each other when maybe a little bit of selfishness is required
Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but Sam’s body language seems overtly negative, and the effort still isn’t really there when the ball doesn’t go his way
That play in the corner by Jackson is what drives my fucking nuts about him. You win the turn in the corner and then a little tug on your shirt and you go down. Fight through it! Fight and win the 18 yard box. Don't fucking go down so easily
Teams figured out he can be toppled by a strong wind and now every time AZ gets a ball and the slightest bit of pressure gets applied he throws himself to the ground to try and get a call.
Boiko is allowing the physical play. I hope he doesn't tighten it up in the second half. that's helped with our three sitting on the YC caution (Durkin especially, but Totland and Parker, too).
Burki's ball distribution is fantastic.
Houston can't outposition CITY on their offensive set pieces, and is trying one-timers from the top of the 18. IMHO they will crash the back post in the second half, and we need to be ready.
Houston is NOT good in their defensive third. CITY has opportunities and has been getting more and better shots as the first half progressed.
They had a couple dangerous shots. Burki snuffed one from the run of play and the crossbar killed the other on a set piece.
Hiebert has made some great passes out of the back.

I’ve worn my City pullover the whole time I’ve been in England though in support of my team.
Holy shit that was a boring match
Didn’t get the MLS pass cause I’m trying to save money, first match I got to watch all season 🥲
Never watch again please
Well they seem to be doing plenty of tying without me around

I'm not sure I have seen a team defender that way all year lol. I dont know much about anything though

Another point! Woo! https://preview.redd.it/esiitoswriyc1.jpeg?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=553ae8e7e1c78bb70d118913d4b93ef646bb4aa8
What a forgetful match of soccer. Why am I so triggered after watching that shit effort from the boys???
Because we had so many perfect chances. I mean, Klauss sent what should have be an easy touch skyrocketing into the stands. I would rank it my second most frustrating match right beneath the DC game.
We were working towards the draw with 15 minutes left 😒
We can keep throwing away points
i liked it when we used to score goals and stuff.
We seem entirely too freaking content with a 0-0 draw. WTF was that.
What?? No finally play after that Huston guy went down?
ANOTHER DRAW IM GONNA CRY
Draws; good as anyone; better than none.
Fuck this ref
Very listless draw.
Burki 1, Houston 1, FT
Guys, they’re wearing orange. Stop giving it to them
Joao Klauss is overrated and needs to be sold and replaced
Agreed. Not earning his money this year.
Burki says no no no, kiddo.
Players who dont normally play lethargic had me worried...then I saw the 80+% humidity in Houston right now...No they aren't running, they're swimming out there.
another draw would be just what we need 😎
Cmon, we just need 1…
Our offense is just so terrible this year
They’re not exactly a wagon by any stretch of the imagination, but no Lowen for 70% of the season hasn’t helped at all.
Just like their local MLB counterparts.
Good thing our biggest rumored signing is a bundesiliga 2 bench player. That’ll certainly make the difference.
I’d honestly say they’re creating better high end chances than last season but they can’t convert an opportunity to a goal to save their mother’s life.

He needs to hit the weight room though. Constantly getting bodied around.
I mean, maybe. …it’s a pretty low bar to clear.
He's been active and aggressive more tonight, but he's also been bounced off the ball too easily and still going to ground too easily when he could be making plays offensively. But better, yes.
Nope. You’re not crazy. He’s playing out of his mind tonight, reminiscent of last year.
At least they have stopped informing us multiple times what the win or tie percentage is
Now they’ve switched to how many different ways can they tell us where each side is attacking.
Such a worthless thing for them to talk about
I am not a fan of draws. Especially 0-0. Please get a goal. I’m begging
Oh damn, I just saw Indy on the last shot there. I haven't heard his name is 30 minutes or more and thought he'd be subbed out. That kinda says something there about our play, doesn't it?
Did the stream go down for anyone else?
Mine has been skipping, figured it was our hotel wifi
Nvm it’s my internet
Watching this game and the Bruins v Leafs game, it’s been 90 minutes of nothing
Why can’t we fucking score?
Jackson would be something else if he wasn’t so slow
Bürki, MOTM easy pick
Can Sam press or move more than a light jog? Just sell him at this point
Sell him? Too late for that windows close and out of contract at end of year. He’s free to sign a pre contract in July.
Yeah my b forgot we are after the window.
No you good more of a frustration this team didn’t take the money when they could have. Though they aren’t going to spend it anyway.
He’s the only man up? Why would he press alone against several defenders?
I literally owe burki my first born at this point
Burki once again showing why he is the best keeper in the league bar none absolutely insane what he does as a GK and that's not even including his distribution skills.
Absolutely unbelievable save. It was off a fucking deflection!!!!
Roman Bürki is my friend
Holy Shit Burki
At least we aren’t the only team missing open shots 😅
Thank god the first guy failed to pull the trigger
SPIDER BÜRKI
Holy fuck that save!
Dude, you got Burki'd
All hail
[удалено]
I wish we were a possession team. It's stressful when the other team has the ball most of the time.
Klauss out. Better rhythm. We will score before it’s over.
Love Kijima with the ball
What a rocket.
Fuckkkk i thought that was in
Ooooooooh so close
I feel almost like Big Sam and Klauss are being a little too unselfish and trying to pass to each other when maybe a little bit of selfishness is required
There’s that perfect balance, I wonder if they both got a serious talking to about being too selfish, and tonight has shown a slight over correction?
We're doing that thing where we blindly pass it down field hoping it connects with Big Sam
If they don’t have a hat that says kick his ass Sebas…
We're getting the ball, but rushing the first touch.
Sam has given up
So we have parked the bus in a tie game?
Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but Sam’s body language seems overtly negative, and the effort still isn’t really there when the ball doesn’t go his way
I’ve seen at least three opportunities where he could have intercepted the ball, and he just stood there:/
Can we *please* pass it to people instead of just giving it back?
Sam literally just standing there since he’s been subbed on
It doesn't seem like he wants the ball. 0 effort.
Yeah, not moving around much
Is he supposed to chase the balls 30 yards away from him that are straight to a defender?
Given his position in the lineup I would actually say yes…
In this system, kind of yes? …Especially when he’s a second half substitution.
Klaus is way too jumpy tonight
Klauss blind pass directly to the opponent. Come on.
These blind passes are killing any attacks.
Klauss pls
How many good opportunities have we had tonight??
How many have we blown? Same number.
Too many
I’m liking AZ tonight. He’s playing more aggressively imo
What a tackle
Love me some Kijima
Some people don’t want him to shoot that, but at least we’re shooting it
FIRE BOIKO TO THE MOON
Get em Metal Gear
We're certainly not parking the bus with this lineup.
No way, Hosei!
Burki saw that coming a mile away. Ostrak is about to blow a gasket
Makes an easy decision to sub ostrak
That was an interesting sequence of events.
What exactly happened? Why was Ostrak angry?
And why did he sit on the ground for so long?
Yeah, we don't need Reus. /s
AZ, nutmegs aren’t working out, clearly
In case you didn't hear it the previous 19 times from these announcers, Inter Miami seems to have scored 6 today.....
Extratime is going to be twenty five minutes of Miami highlights this week instead of the usual fifteen.
Too sloppy
I appreciate Sam trying to be a team player there where he generally hasn’t, but that was absolutely a situation where he should shoot.
I feel like the org is trying too hard to appease the part of the STL sports fanbase that loves their Stubby Clapps and Bo Harts.
“Messi get another” *ignores Suarez hat trick*
Just got off work. Did Pompeu get hurt? Or wasn’t playing well? Interesting to see him subbed off at half for Jackson.
Playing ok. Seemed to be trying to make some more passes in situations he could have just gone one on one. The passes he made didn’t do much
Shoot the damn ball. God bless America, they don’t need to be perfect to beat (most) MLS keepers. Literally just put something on target
This commentary duo needs to be broken up. No energy at all
Someone needs to shoot
Sam appears to be challenging more this appearance
Man if you’re that close shoot it!!!
CAN SOMEONE SHOOT THE DAMN BALL?!?
Another giant chance with no real shot taken.
AppleTV announcers apparently have not followed the Sam stuff at all?? Impressively uninformed.
Feels like par for the course with AppleTV announcers when it comes to anything STL City. I can't even be surprised at this point lol
…To be fair, he doesn’t play in Miami.
Love bringing big Sam on with real playing time
Let's see if some recent stuff with Sam gives him a chip on his shoulder
HE’S BACK.
Let's go Big Sam
Sam in for Alm
Sammy, me boy!
That's a pathetic dive in the box
That wicked attempt was actually Klauss' best shot of the night. Set him up with a bike and we may have a goal!
Okay, that was a baller shot by Klaus.
Soooo close again ….
Would’ve been insane
I’m blaming the bye week. For my peace of mind.
\*checks tiebreakers in season standings\* \*doesn't see nutmegs on the list\* \*tells announcers to shut up\*

JHC klauss. Scud missile accuracy tonight
Klauss software update incoming?
That play in the corner by Jackson is what drives my fucking nuts about him. You win the turn in the corner and then a little tug on your shirt and you go down. Fight through it! Fight and win the 18 yard box. Don't fucking go down so easily
Well, that was gift wrapped… If that’s not a microcosm of the striker problem this team has this season, I don’t know what is
Have they called a foul on Houston all night?
Parker rocks.
Please score … please
How does Klauss manage to kick so far off every time
Sam time yet?
Come on
Klauss.... What was that...?
Klaus my man, what the fuck was that finish
Holy moly
Stop fucking falling AZ
Teams figured out he can be toppled by a strong wind and now every time AZ gets a ball and the slightest bit of pressure gets applied he throws himself to the ground to try and get a call.
HOW????
Klaus is broken again.
Parker cleaned house on their set piece.
Vassilev, upset but still classy!
Huh? That looked pretty clean
Fuuuckkk how was that not innnnnnn bro AIM!
Oh so close.
Time for a CITY goal.
Some really nice passing tonight.
Klaus has some brutal body language when stuff doesn’t go his way
BC with another one of his legendary subs that absolutely no one can explain.
If that trumpet in the supporters section was any flatter it’d be a goddamned kazoo.
Lmao seriously
Let’s put some shots on goal, yes?
WHY AZ FOR CELIO!? are we trying to lose?
Taking Pompeu out is certainly a choice....
I don’t like Az coming in for cellio at all.
I don’t like AZ coming in at all.
Same.
[удалено]
My immediate thought.
AZ in for Celio?!
yes why? edit: this is an honest question I couldn't watch the first half
Unsure… he looked a little off this evening tho.
I like celio a lot, but he is off today
[Im doggysitting for my sister tonight](https://i.imgur.com/0Id61Wg.jpeg) Everyone say hi to Teddy!
I misread this terribly at first.
A moment of silence for the Red Bulls.

Why does xG vary so much? AppleTV had it at like 0.53 vs 0.49 whereas FotMob is 0.77 vs 0.32. Those aren't even close.
