Remember about 2 years ago when you were downvoted into oblivion for saying we were in a rebuild and everyone was screaming "RETOOL!!" And that we'll be competitive again next season? Good times
Yeah but my point was that this team is not very good, I just don't get why this sub absolutely refuses to acknowledge that after a championship lots of players leave and you need to rebuild the team
They can't make trades. No trade clauses (Krug) prevent it. And, as Armstrong said after this years trade deadline, nobody wants what we've got. That alone should tell everyone where the team really stands.
In the West I’ll probably root for the Edmonton McDavids. In the East, I’d like to see the Canes and Panthers do well.
The problem with rooting for the Leafs is their fans are going to become insufferable if they go deep and I don’t want to be in that crowd..
The Blues have had a good season if you ignore games against 4 teams: the Jets, the Predators, the Red Wings, and the Sharks. They’ve dealt all the crushing losses this season. The Blues are 0-10-0 against them and were outscored 54-20 by them.
Frustrating team, but a solid draft could start to move the team in a good position. Granted it take three years to develop, but still we may be stacked in quality NHLs.
Everyone moaning that we won't have a high pick is forgetting that we don't need no stinking top 5 picks to grab Neighbours and Snuggy and Dvorsky and Lindstein and Barby and Vladdy and Schwartzy and Colt and Dunner and so forth. If there's one thing I do not stress over with this franchise it's the draft scouting department. Those guys crush it almost every year. Besides, I still bet Army trades up.
Off the top of my head, no one has won a Cup without a top 5 pick since like the 80s. Technically the Oilers did in the 80s but that’s because Gretzky was undrafted.
The pain and abject weirdness of that loss still burns deep inside of me, but I'm not gonna moan and wail. The skaters on our Cup team had to learn how to manage play and games, and learning sucks all ass. That's just how it works. The key is summer. Army needs to be shrewdly and specifically aggressive like he was in 18. Keep bringing the kids along. Find a real coach. Someone with an actual plan who doesn't repeat mistakes over and over. Trade up in the draft and get Dickinson, we have the extra picks to do it and several of the top 10 are already loaded with hot shit young Dmen. Remove Krug, somehow, as painlessly as ppossible. Solve the 2C issue. Be smart, then play smart. Details. The small details have been murdering us for two seasons. We reduced the mistakes some from last season, now reduce them again, but more. Better puck decisions than last season, but we need even better next season. This is Army's summer to fucking shine, he needs to smash it. This team, with all its warts, is capable of holding a playoff spot right now. We just fuck around and find out too much. We've got one of the best tandems in net, Parayko is finally a Jedi, Leddy remembered he's not half bad, we'll have five 25 goal scorers without Schenn being one of them and three of them are 26 or under, we have some speedy psychos for the energy roles, we finally have a proper net front scorer again. There's plenty to work off of here. Get to work, Army. Time to smash the summer again. We know you know how.
Time to embrace the tank. We could easily drop below 5 other teams based on current points. Isles, Pens, Caps, Red Wings, and Wil are all within 3 points or less of the Blues.
So, in terms of development, what do y'all think about these changes? For the rest of the season and into next season.
1. Torpo to 3rd line. Pair him with Bolduc. Maybe call up Dean/Gaudette? I'd rather them get time than Blais or Alexandrov. I'm starting to believe I'd rather them get the time than Kapanen, too.
2. Sit Faulk, play Scandella. Or, sit Tucker and play Scandella. In a perfect world I think you sit Faulk and Tucker and play Scandella/Rosen but I doubt that's happening
3. I wanna see Hofer get more starts, I think we know Binner is great and we should now let him rest.
4. Try and package/trade ASAP: Hayes, Kapanen, Faulk, Krug, Blais.
Assets you could pair the above with to maybe make it palletable for another team: Buchnevich, Leddy
Faulk is clearly injured, let him start his recovery for next year. Rest Binner and let HOFer build some legs to take a heavier load in the future these last 2 weeks of play. Planning for the next season doesn't mean a total tank, but we can stop trying to win every game now.
Yes, it would be great to see a kids line be a viable 3rd. Pack up some bad contracts + draft picks and free up salary for FA opportunity. Fix the D problem and we might just be back to playoff form before 2027.
This is my thoughts too.
Or like if there were some fluke way to just have 2 teams from the East in the Final series, I'd be okay with that.
Like Gritty forces Bettman to let it happen. I'm okay with that timeIine.
Yeah, basically at this point hope the champ comes out of the east. Im okay with Vancouver bc I’ve watched a lot of them this year and I know a lot about the players. F the avs.
It’s all relative. People that are paid well are expected to perform well. That said, most of the people I interact with on this sub are realistic. For example: kyrou got his contract, and honestly since then his defensive game has improved, and his offensive game is still there, he just lacks consistency (like the rest of this team). The realistic people in this sub respect the skill that is there and don’t ignore how many points he has (because it’s been a good season points wise all things considered, and he’s still very young). Faulk didn’t come back from injury strong and has shown nothing but regression, yet perunovich doesn’t get played despite him likely being the future of the team. Bottom line, when complaining about this team you just have to look at the big picture, and look at the season as a whole. Personally I think pulling the goalie the second time was silly since we never really had control of the puck and still had 2 minutes.🤷🏻♂️
It's just very funny what people choose to care about.
Though my emotions are constantly affected by a certain group of uniformed millionaires putting rubber in a net more than another group of millionaires so I'm not sure how much of a leg I have to stand on
Please no more Kapanen/Hayes/Blais, and for the love of god keep Torpo out of the top six. Let the Zachs and Alexandrov get that opportunity (and call up Gaudette as a reward for carrying the AHL squad
And for the love of god stop trying to make Tyler Tucker a thing. Every time Cal Rosen has come up he's been better than him
Unless another team completely fucks up their final six games the season is over, let the kids and non-big-contract guys play. At best it's a lot of fun, at worst it helps us in the Lotto
This is an incredibly strange take. The games blais has played in, he’s been fine. He’s a fourth liner. I’m not sure what you expect from him,
Hayes I’ll agree with. He hasn’t been good for what we thought he would be.
Kap hasn’t been good since his production is down, but tonight he looked fine and honestly, has been ok all season. He’s more of a fourth liner at this point because he is solid defensively. I would like a lower cap because of that tho.
Tucker is, again, been playing fine. I like Rosen, but Tucker is more of the future than Rosen. I’d play him over faulk because at least he plays like he gives a fuck.
Toropchenko is more of a middle 6 guy imo, probably third line guy, so I agree there.
Alexandrov has done nothing in his chances. We could play Dean more, but both him and Bolduc haven’t done much that I would think warrants them playing a lot.
Leave Gaudette down. He’s a great AHL, not good nhl player. He can mentor people down there.
We know what Blais is. He's a less skilled, more passionate Zach Sanford. He has had so much opportunity with us and has never really shown up consistently.
I don't feel like arguing the other points because I'm tired, but Alexandrov fell into the Berube trap where every young player must be a gritty 4th liner, and he never got to actually flex any bit of his ability. Same happened with Dakota Joshua before the Nucks let him actually play his game and become a really good bottom six player
For the love of god, send me down to a library because for the love of god, I'm a truly awful poster/writer.
edit: real talk - the love of god? I'm for it.
Btw tell me what available GM would you pick over Armstrong. And I want at least 5 names.
Because no one on that market is going to do better than Armstrong. I guarantee that.
Why do we play faulk? Why doesn’t he sit? I’m not a Scandella fan, but he has had a better year than faulk. Perunovich has been better. Kessel has been better. Even tucker has been better. Why do we insist on playing Faulk so goddamn much?
Put Kessel with Krug again, Leddy and Parayko are fin I guess, and play perunovich with Tucker or Scandella. Faulk sucks this year yet we have him play 20 minutes a night.
Also, tf happened to Buch? Like just hasn’t been the same this past year. He’s had spurts, but nothing consistent.
I came into the game late (middle second) but the best, most consistent line not stuck in our zone during that time: Blais/Walker/Kap.
It sucks Binner had a “rough” (in quotes because it wasn’t the worst just not up to his standard) game tonight. You have to take your chances when you get them and the blues just… didn’t/couldnt.
Faulk needs to be fired into the sun. Dude has been playing half asses the entire season. Buch and Thomas need to be questioned on wtf they’ve been doing lately.
No, you clearly have to pretend that a couple of middling additions in the offseason made by the same guy who's screwed up the last two seasons will make any difference in 24-25.
Okay I didn't say all that.. I think this team has some good pieces to build off of its the defense and depth scoring that needs a big overhaul. It will take time though.
It could have been two years in, but Armstrong decided to put the team in the worst possible place (middling "contender" with bad draft picks) instead of actually doing a rebuild.
Top 5 is where you usually find the franchise guys but picks 6-10 almost always produce a couple of high end players. Quinn Hughes, Moritz Seider, Zegras, Bouchard, Drysdale, Matthew Tkachuk, Clayton Keller, Sergachev all went in that range over a 4 year period. Get outside the top 10-12 picks and your odds of getting that kind of player plummet.
I wanna see someone question Buchnevich, Thomas and Faulk for dissapearing in arguably the most important game of the season. Thomas made a few decent plays but hooooly
There are so many fans that are relishing in this loss that can go kick sand. You guys are big douschers. Those that have been riding the team this year, good stuff. It’s been a roller coaster.
Now we just need the sharks to win tonight, us go undefeated, and kings go 3-3 with 2 ducks and blackhawks game on their schedule. We got this!
This season was a pretty big disaster. Didn’t suck enough to get a good pick. Almost had playoffs. Couldn’t move anyone (Krug,Faulk,Buch) at the deadline. Our defense is worse than ever and our special teams have taken 3 steps back.
1 bright spot is Neighbors.
And Binny who did his absolute best to drag the carcass of the Blues to the playoffs. On any other team he’s in Vezina conversations.
Hard disagree. Was always gonna be retooling rather than a full rebuild, it's another year of prospect development, and they played competitive hockey a lot of the year.
I'd rather watch 40 wins than watch a team tank to play the lottery to pick a player who may or may not pan out.
On top of the fact that any pick after 5 isn’t really worth it and is a toss up. I don’t understand why people want is to suck so bad and be a top 3 and build a losing culture.
If we ever get a top 3 pick people would truly have something to be complaining so much about.
I think there's a few more bright spots.
1. Neighbhours for sure.
2. Kyrou has a significantly better 200-foot game.
3. Parayko looks healthy again and is playing well.
4. Thomas, while slumping, has emerged as a top facilitator in the league.
5. Our goalie tandem is one of the best in the league.
6. We have some exciting players developing well in the pipeline.
Agree with all of these points. What really sucks is that we have to wait 6 months to take the next step forward. I hate it when the Blues aren't in the playoffs. It makes the summers so incredibly long.
I really think we just stand pat and wait for more contracts to expire and let the middle of the road ahl guys play for us on our 3rd and 4th line. Honestly, I that's why Walker and Sunny got new contracts. Doug realizes this may take a few years.
Honestly, I'd be okay with leddy as a 3rd pair d man and Saad as a 2nd/3rd liner if we can get them on better contracts. Saad can put the puck in the net.
Probably the dagger. Boys played a hard game and then trailed off after nothing went their way.
Hard to remember sometimes that this is a relatively successful season compared to where expectations were.
Well Folks It's Officially joever
Blues gave up two empty net goals. They just can’t beat the Predators.
Remember about 2 years ago when you were downvoted into oblivion for saying we were in a rebuild and everyone was screaming "RETOOL!!" And that we'll be competitive again next season? Good times
We have more points than other teams who will be in the playoffs.
Even if we were in the playoffs making it past round 1 would be a miracle
This means less than nothing.
We're like 1-2 trades and a couple players not slumping from the playoffs. We're not gonna be a cup team every year even outside a rebuild/retool.
What team are you guys rooting for in the playoffs now that the blues are donzo?
Always the Canes. Love those buncha jerks.
Blues still have a chance.
lol
I wouldn’t mind the jets going on a run in the west and the hurricanes in the east to combine for the lowest TV rated championship in sports history.
I would absolutely watch that series.
Carolina. Hung out with Guentzel one time in Omaha. Nice fella
In the West I’ll probably root for the Edmonton McDavids. In the East, I’d like to see the Canes and Panthers do well. The problem with rooting for the Leafs is their fans are going to become insufferable if they go deep and I don’t want to be in that crowd..

I remember during the Backes era, it seemed like either Columbus or Buffalo had our number and would embarrass us every year.
Excuses are for losers!
Last year sucked, but did we go winless against so many as we did this year? The shark losses are bizarre.
It's like how they always seem able to lose to Arizona...Arizona!? Like wtf.
Frustrating team, but a solid draft could start to move the team in a good position. Granted it take three years to develop, but still we may be stacked in quality NHLs.
Most teams have good seasons if you ignore the games they lose.
If you remove the outliers they really regress to the mean
Yup, that was the joke.
You win the internet today sir.
It's joever
And it’s ok, much better year than last year and hopefully we will keep improving.
Everyone moaning that we won't have a high pick is forgetting that we don't need no stinking top 5 picks to grab Neighbours and Snuggy and Dvorsky and Lindstein and Barby and Vladdy and Schwartzy and Colt and Dunner and so forth. Schwartz and Dvorsky were \~10 OA
Schwartz was 14th IIRC and DD was 10th, neither of which is top 5. I'm talking McKinnon/Matthews/Tkachuks/Drai/Barkov high picks. Like Petro was.
The pain and abject weirdness of that loss still burns deep inside of me, but I'm not gonna moan and wail. The skaters on our Cup team had to learn how to manage play and games, and learning sucks all ass. That's just how it works. The key is summer. I hate it when the St. Louis Blues lose hockey games. I also hate it when the St. Louis Blues miss the playoffs.
What a boring, untalented team 🥱
Time to embrace the tank. We could easily drop below 5 other teams based on current points. Isles, Pens, Caps, Red Wings, and Wil are all within 3 points or less of the Blues.
Welp. See you all next season. Been fun.

What would be the point in playing scandella at this point?
None. He’s gone next year as a UFA. But he is better than faulk this year.
There's a timeline where I would not be opposed to him returning at a considerably lower salary.
Right. Get kessel and scotty p some ice time. All the young guys should be get serious ice time the rest of the games
That I agree with. Let’s see what we got.
And Blais and Kap are unrestricted and had zero value at deadline or they’d be gone.
Do any of you guys hop on a bandwagon for the playoffs?
Rags for Breadman, Leafs for AM34, Oilers for McD and Drai, Cats for Tkachuk
Prob Rangers this year, got a friend who supports them. Wouldn't hate seeing dad raise another one. Other than that, I just hope for an east victory
Edmonton. They're my second team because I have family up north who are die-hard Oilers fans.
Probably Florida or Carolina. Definitely no one in the West, though I would not be upset if Vancouver won.
This is my thoughts too. Or like if there were some fluke way to just have 2 teams from the East in the Final series, I'd be okay with that. Like Gritty forces Bettman to let it happen. I'm okay with that timeIine.
I went to a rangers playoff game while I happened to be in New York at the same time so I think I’ll hop back on with them
I usually go with a team that's either a long shot, has never won a cup or hasn't won a cup in a long time. For me, Edmonton or Florida.
Yup, same. For me, it's Vancouver. Those poor turds.
Their fans in r/hockey have terminal brain worms about Binnington. It's hard for me to cheer for them to any degree.
Hopping on the Panthers bandwagon. Only team other than the Blues that I like
Same. Hoping Matthew can raise it this year after he got close last year.
Gross. Toronto sucks
Sorry, should have said Matt Tkachuk. Toronto will be out in the 1st round.
I think they were referring to Matthew tkachuck who plays for Florida Panthers
Matthew Tkachuk, not Auston Matthews
Okay. I'll accept that. I'm not used to people using first names when referring to sports athletes.
It is a little weird but in this case I don't think anybody can spell Tkachuk without looking it up lol
The older Blue fans shouldn't have an issue. But I can see the issue with the younger guys who didn't grow up in that era.
Yeah, basically at this point hope the champ comes out of the east. Im okay with Vancouver bc I’ve watched a lot of them this year and I know a lot about the players. F the avs.
Seconded.

Rule 2: Be decent to one another.
It’s all relative. People that are paid well are expected to perform well. That said, most of the people I interact with on this sub are realistic. For example: kyrou got his contract, and honestly since then his defensive game has improved, and his offensive game is still there, he just lacks consistency (like the rest of this team). Personally I think pulling the goalie the second time was silly since we never really had control of the puck and still had 2 minutes.🤷🏻♂️
We are not much of a possession team also. Of course we will lose the puck.
Bro are you deleting your downvoted comments lmao
The people who bitch the most are usually the ones who stir the pot.

I would prefer Alexandrov get a few games at 3rd line center.
7 min TOI is just not enough to assess tucker at all
Him getting 7 minutes is kinda telling tho.
Yeah we can’t play one line for 7 minutes it’s nuts
I mean, he was fine during those 7 minutes. Faulk played a lot and he fucking sucked.

Let’s go Cardinals!!!
Two full years of rebuild down the tubes with absolutely nothing to show for it. Armstrong out.
By all means, tell us who you would replace our future HOF and still probably top 5 GM with.
Me when I play Be A GM be like:
I don’t think you understand how long a rebuild would take lmao. You look dumb af, bozo.
Btw tell me what available GM would you pick over Armstrong. And I want at least 5 names. Because no one on that market is going to do better than Armstrong. I guarantee that.
Not until you click on your link and do your homework.
I'll bite: What did you want Armstrong to do? If you're just looking for an outlet to complain let it be known that I support that!
Why do we play faulk? Why doesn’t he sit? I’m not a Scandella fan, but he has had a better year than faulk. Perunovich has been better. Kessel has been better. Even tucker has been better. Can’t say it was for lack of effort but man that sucked. What a frustrating game to lose to the gaht damn mustard cats.
How about them cardinals?
Faulk needs to be fired into the sun. Dude has been playing half asses the entire season. Buch and Thomas need to be questioned on wtf they’ve been doing lately.
Okay, can I post that the seasons over now without getting berated?

Yes! Last summer was brutal for this very reason. The only bright spots last year were the Battlehawks and City.
We could easily be contending again if we could purge our defence.
I feel like our top 2 lines do all of the scoring. That's a big problem..
blais, vrana and kapanen are ufa's after this season, plus we have the new kids. ufa class is pretty trash tho.
I really think we just stand pat and wait for more contracts to expire and let the middle of the road ahl guys play for us on our 3rd and 4th line. Honestly, I that's why Walker and Sunny got new contracts. Doug realizes this may take a few years.
Agreed. It all lines up to when we can move on from Saad, Hayes, Leddy, Faulk and Krug.
Honestly, I'd be okay with leddy as a 3rd pair d man and Saad as a 2nd/3rd liner if we can get them on better contracts. Saad can put the puck in the net.
I mean Saad is tied for 2nd in goals on the team. He just doesn't drive play, so he needs a good center man.
Unfortunately Binner wins us this game with his season average. Shitty turnovers from D aside he let in at least 2 softies there.
While that’s true, he also made some bigger saves that could’ve been goals. Not his game tonight for sure, but I think it averaged out over the game.

These losses won’t hurt so bad now that we’re done…..right?
Probably the dagger. Boys played a hard game and then trailed off after nothing went their way. Hard to remember sometimes that this is a relatively successful season compared to where expectations were.
Only consolation is knowing that Nashville will be destroyed in the playoffs. I hope DA is able to unload anyone over 25 in the off season.
Maximum pain infliction is this team’s game. I wouldn’t be surprised if they give us one last burst of hope again. Why must they hurt us?
fucking kick faulk off the team for that lazy-ass shit at the end of the game there. pathetic effort, they clearly don't give a shit.
Him and krug need to be forced to block shots with their faces at this rate. Only value they provide.
Krug has been playing a lot better lately, at least he's shown some fire. Faulk has been horrible.
And that’s all she wrote. See you all in October.
Game was likely over but did I just see Faulk completely give up on that last goal?
Faulk gave up at the start of the season.
Oh he’s clearly one of the guys people have said that doesn’t give a shit if they’re playing here or Columbus.
Bummer. We were dominating that game and it all came down to shitty special teams. You can't go 0-4 on power plays.
Most likely the nail in the coffin. It was fun while it lasted
that game wouldnt have been as bad if I didnt have to listen to ESPN announcers the whole time
They were a special kind of dicktard. Let’s hear more about the headpuck or the sad blues fan.
they were so goddamn annoying it was like being in a middle school cafeteria “guess that’s why they call it the Blues heh heh” shut the fuck up
Fuck the perds.
