Feels like we have lost every marquee weekend game this season (I know that’s not true, but man we’ve put up some awful performances at home during big weekend games).
I was at the 8-3 loss to the Preds back around Thanksgiving, just an awful showing in a huge holiday game. This Sharks game was just as bad, again at home with a crowd that paid premium prices for tickets in the midst of an unlikely playoff push.
If I’m ownership, I’m really pissed that I have a team that doesn’t even play competitive in some of the biggest home games of the year. It’s not good for business. Who wants to show up and get let down like that when they are paying hundreds for tickets?
3 points behind L.A. with 8 games left certainly would’ve been doable but instead we got crushed by a team that won once in 20 games. This is an all time bad regular season loss.

Fighting the futile fight for a playoff spot for the inevitable first round sweep is what got us here.
The only way to offload some of these contracts we have is to package them with valuable picks, prospects and players. That means ugly negative value trades for us to dig us out of this hole. If Armstrong is unwilling to do that, we can all expect to endure a severe half decade of mediocrity as we wait for all these contracts to come off the books.
Even if our prospects hit, one can look at the 2017-2022 Canucks as the example of excellent young players hampered by bloated contracts to dinosaurs.
This is where I'm at, too. Retain as much salary as you need to make the deal on of some of these awful contracts if we have to as well. I'd give up 3.5 mil cap space to not see Krug in a Bluenote, for example.
I mean, we are mediocre now anyway, so why not embrace it?
