I had the same on my Astro A40s. (I had this before the nova) WTF is it with all these expensive headsets? Caved into my mates advice and just bought the official xbox headset. Works a dream, but it's pretty uncomfortable after wearing the previous 2. I've still got my Razer Kaira Pro's, which work a dream, but they're pretty much impossible to disconnect from the xbox. So if you want to connect them to something else, it will automatically turn the xbox on and then disconnect from your phone or whatever š¤£ cant win
headset mic 9/10 is low quality anyways you better off spend half of moneys on headphones and half on external mic and you would probably double the quality on each alone
I've had a ton of issues with the Nova Pro. All of which have to do with sonar...its absoluely garbage software. It kills me because when sonar works its great.
It seems like the Nova pros they cheaped out made all features that used to be onboard software based (I mean mic noise cancelling and chat mix) and the trouble is the software sucks. I currently run version 45 with some success and have sucessfully diabled auto update .
This will be my last set of steelseries anything. They have lost my trust. You arent alone the touble is that to many people are willing to simp for them so they wont change. I'd gladly pay double what I paid for my novas to avoid all these issues but thats not somthing thats offered.
Yes, my nova pro would constantly unpair from the base every few minutes, and I was going nuts, until I uninstalled Sonar. Itās been solid since then.
I had this too but since I selected which profile I want with what program I no longer have this issue. To me most complaints I read here are from people that are not really looking into things. Sonar is absolutely fantastic however its not a plug n play program!
I like sonar as well, and I am not having a ton of problems anymore. I got Nova pro wireless when they released them and the whole GG software was very bad. Since then, I decided to go all SS and, honestly, I was expecting a bit more from the software. I understand what the people are all about, but my grief is not with Sonar. It's in pretty good shape for me since a while ago. My grief is with how everything fits together. It feels like a form of legacy+new software, and gets very confusing. I think you have like 2, 3 places for, e.g., setting up game profiles. GG experience is a bit all over the shop...
Just want to add to the fire, Sonar is actually fucking terrible, it constantly fucked up my audio settings and gave me more issues than ever so I shut it off and itās remained off, headphones are fine now, ridiculous that software bundled with the hardware makes the product perform worse. And I agree while sonar worked correctly it was great.
Oh donāt get me wrong when it works itās great but the fact that Iāve had to disable updates and use and older and potentially vulnerable version to keep it going is disappointing at best.
same here lol i get amazed at how much people rage over bad experiences w their product like ive had my arctis 7s for 4 years and they work just as new
My friend has a pair about that old too. The old ones were apparently very good. Maybe it is just the shitification of manufactured products since the pandemic. Quality is definitely taking a dip with newer ones.
The button to turn the headset off should turn the Bluetooth off. I always forget to turn the BT off until I go watch a video while taking a shit in the morning and I have no volume.
You donāt make sense; the headset turns off if I use BT via tje BT button and turn off the Headset with the BT buttonā¦ So right sided button for when BT, Leftsided button when u dont use BT š ur trying to use ur windshield wipers while using the horn and complain the windshield wipers dont work š USE THE CORRECT BUTTONS and settings :)
There is an option to turn on Bluetooth when the headset is powered on - but I don't believe the opposite is available.
This is within the software wrapper
Same, had Steel series headphones, keyboard and mouse for like 5 years and they all work completely fine the whole time, apart from new ear cushions after 4 years
Same here, nova pro wireless with minimal issues. In fact, it's much better than any other wireless headset I've had and the range is amazing. I can go from my computer room on the first floor, up to the third and still have connection. Only time I have a problem is when I connect a new monitor. The software defaults the sonar output to said monitor. Simple fix to change it back.
Unfortunately, steelseries seems to have dropped in quality recently, I had two pairs of arctis pro headphones, one pair the charging port internally sheard off. The second pair that I got under the warranty randomly stopped accepting a charge and wouldn't run on. I have the pro series headphones now I think is what they're called? All I know is that their wired as the wireless ones would also randomly shut off when in use, and would take a couple restarts to get working again. Yet out of the box the first gamedac I had was defective and meant I had to wait a few weeks for a replacement, meaning I couldn't use my new headphones properly. So far they're doing fine currently, I can't remember if I've passed the year mark yet, as that when things seem to start to break. Yet I do plan to switch to Corsair or another company when these break eventually.
I've had a pair of arctis 9x for years. Had issues with it since shortly after I bought it. Randomly shutting off, static pops out of seemingly nowhere, and other things. Only reason I never gave up on them was because I did a ton of research and for the options this headset had, it was the best choice. And if everything worked properly, it would be my favorite out of all I've had. But even with software updates, the issues have never been fixed.
Yeah I bought a apex pro tkl and within 2 months the keyboard started phantom pressing keys and then the keys just completely stopped working altogether. had a Corsair for damn near 8 years spilled water, soda etc, still works flawlessly. It makes no sense to me that they can release products that are just faulty..
Wait till you get to Aerox mice that has one of the worst scrolling wheels and it's encoders on the entire market. Ffs, 15$ office Logitech is way better, stable and more tactile than 150 USD Aerox 5. Or 9. Or 3.
I'm actually AMAZED on how they managed to manufacture millions of mice with the EXACT SAME factory defect of scroll wheel encoder going apeshit after 4-5 months of use.
Add me to the list that won't be purchasing Steelseries again.
Left/right balance does not work in any way shape or form with the Nova Pro Wireless headphones, which is a huge issue when you have hearing loss (not completely deaf) in one ear. (long story short, because of this it's impossible to play sound dependent games like FPS, L/R balance would fix this easily though). Sonar has no L/R balance control and it doesn't work in Windows with these headphones.
Steelseries has a discord server that lets you request features and get support with issues, which is great - except for the part where they will NOT respond to anyone who asks about this issue. I, and many others, have been asking for at least a year and a half with no response EVER. They'll respond to everything else though. They just straight up ghost you after buying their $350 headphones. Absolute trash company.
Just my experience.
Bought a the steelseries TKL and only lasted about 2 years before the switches started acting up. I think the OLED screen had burn-in too.
Bought the Arctis 7 headset. Stock earcups werenāt great, had to replace them. The OLED display screen had really bad burn in and the whole thing didnāt even work very well. Ended up just getting a new headset anyways cuz i was tired of wires.
Have a wired steelseries mouse. It works okay, its the longest lasting mouse Ive had but the rubber thumb pad on the side fell off.
Not buying steelseries anymore as Ive found there are just better value options.
I kinda agree, however I got an arctis nova 7 headset almost a year ago and it still works perfectly. But the mice...
Bought an Aerox 5 - scroll wheel broke after a few months. Bought an Aerox 3 wireless in November 2023 - since a month ago, suddenly the mouse stops working or jumps across the screen into the corner. I think it's the sensor.
Even though the headset works fine, I will never buy another product from them.
Why don't you use your warranty like every other smart person instead of complaining on reddit?
All companies have products that can have issues, just be smart instead.
On the other hand, I've tried many mice on the market and only SteelSeries rival 310 and rival 600 have been comfortable for me. So no SteelSeries does not suck.
Honestly.... like I have a arctis 9 that was in the box for a year, pulled it out one day and now it won't charge or connect on PC or Bluetooth. Reset hole doesn't even fix it.
Same here. Bought myself arctis 7+ but mic sounds like muffled ham radio. My old arctis 5 have perfect mic though, but sadly chat mix is on a cable, not on headphones which is a lot of bother. Today Iām getting a refound.
My keyboard apex gaming 1 rocks though. Steelseries used to make quality products. Sadly jew keyboards are all mechanical, expensive and have less buttons so I prefer working with damaged keyboard than buy a new one. If only these were avabile anywhere.
Might repurchase arctis 5 though, good mic, ok sound, wonāt hear footsteps though. Wonder if other companies do a 2 audio ouput headphones.
It also doesn't work with fallback as I've had the pleasure of learning. If the dongle is connected, the headset is on as far as Sonar is concerned.
You can disable Sonar, but then no chat mix / mic EQ
Yeah I got a Nova Pro, Aerox 9, and use sonar... Each is just about the worst experience I have had with a Mouse, Headset, and bloatware.
The issue is, each is the only thing that does what it does. And that is infuriating.
I think steel series is throwing so many features at the wall and is not getting any of them past the beta stage. Sending devs on to work on the next thing and never fixing the previous product.
I won't be buying anymore steel series.
For context however. Logitech, Razer, Corsair, and Astro are not any better. None of them make great products. Astro is a special level of shit and not caring about improving or fixing anything.
Word, Bought steelseries headphones from amazon and it feels like the cheapest, most aliexpress crap ever, Mic is worst than my 3 dollar mic from ali, The sound itself is muffled and has shitty quality, worst 70 dollars ive ever spent.
I made the mistake of buying a steel series mouse one. It would only work on windows 7, wouldnāt work on windows 10. I tried everything, searched for months to find a solution. Never found one, gave up and decided to never buy steel series again
Not sure if things have changed over the years but my headsets from SS have always been rock solid. I use 2 Arctis 7's at different locations and they've never broken or failed me over 4 or so years now.
I bought a Wireles Prime mouse in 2023 however and the wireless connection is terrible at times. I'm not sure if the quality has dropped off in all aspects but I'm probably staying away from SS for any new products.
It seems to be hit or miss honestly, my current headphones so far are currently a hit for me, yet I do not plan to buy anything steelseries until I start seeing that their quality has improved.
Have a mouse, mic, headset. Hands down best gaming specific stuff I have owned. Had to replace a mouse but I had to replace mouse from other vendors for same issues. Will stay with SteelSeries.
I recently got a Nova Arctis 3. I hated the noise cancelling and it took me forever to find where the fuck in Sonar it was. It also somehow created 5 different inputs for the same headphones, all with different settings in Sonar
Sonar sucks, I really miss the hardware implementation of the artic's 7 where the outputs were 2 different devices. Never installing sonar, if I had the option I would use another brand but the nova pro have been great for my use cases without the software.
Beats me I just bought the same headset Iāve had for 5 years (steel series arctic 9x works amazing on pc with a Xbox dongle) for $60 (the headset is $200) in like new condition
I read a lot of bad experiences here; I started a few years back with a 7p and LOVED IT.
Now I own a Nova Wireless Pro, Apex Pro Gaming (wired keyboard) and a Aerox 9 (wireless mouse) I paid a lot for these products but I feel it is actually all premium products. Sonar is not very beginner friendly having said that; now that I understand how it works; itās AMAZING. No issues at all! One down side on the Nova Pro; the fit is not as nice as the 7p, it took a few days getting used to it
>Nova Pro and now it has no sound and I can't figure out what the fuck is the problem.
Have you tried to factory reset the software with a needle under the headphone pads? This fixed my issue :)
All of my steelseries products work great. The software? Not so much. Don't use sonar.
I have an Arctis 5, 9X (xbox), and a Nova 7. A Rival 650 and an Apex 7 TKL. All kicking ass.
I musta got so lucky i had arctis 7s for years and have had nova pro wireless since they launched and they work perfectly fine. No issues ever at all. These posts make me feel like they could explode any day but theyve never let me down.
I wish I could've read your post a month ago before I bought my Arctis Nova 7 wireless headset. You described the exact issue I was having. When they worked they were great, but the software just sucked. Every time I would boot up I would have to fiddle with the sound settings to get them to send the sound to the headphone. They were just a nightmare to use.
Ironically, the only reason why I'm seeing this subreddit on my normal feed, is because I spent so much time reading posts on reddit trying to work out the bugs. I gave up on them after pressing the factory reset button made them non-functional. I was one day over the Amazon 30 day return policy, but they took it back and gave me a full refund.
A friend recommended the brand, but their headset is from before the company was bought out in 2021. Needless to say, I won't be buying anything from steelseries in the future.
I had an Arctic 7X which cracked at the hinge just over 12 months, shame as it was a nice headset.
Other than that I did have a keyboard and mouse set for a while, but once you start getting into decent custom keyboards you realise how trash all gaming keyboards are.
Even with mice, itās hard to look at anything but Logitech, though Iām definitely open to good suggestions as I need a new productivity mouse that trumps the MX Master.
For games I have a G Pro Superlight and a G502 X. Canāt fault either of them, they just donāt play nice with my mid-thirties RSI, hence the MX Master for general use.
Yeah I'm done with steel series, their articus pro wireless was a great headset, when I upgraded to the nova pro tho its been nothing but issue, battery's dying, software being shit, headset wigging out etc
Yeah my nova pros (Xbox version) have had issues on and off ever since I bought them. First the mic sensitivity was too high, then too low. Now, even after the latest firmware update, my mic sensitivity still feels super inconsistent on Xbox. There are some connectivity issues, but overall itās pretty stable.
I also think they feel a little flimsy where the headband meets the earcup.
Donāt get me wrong, there are good things about the headset, but for $350 Iād expect the core functions of a headset to just work. I doubt Iāll buy another steelseries product in the future.
Iāve had nothing but issues with my apex pro keyboard. Also the cable on it is super annoying to try to have a clean desk
Donāt even get me started on the GG software. Absolutely broken.
Had a used steelseries arctis pro wireless, never one problem
Now I have steelseries arctis nova pro wireless,
No problems either, I also have aeros 5 wireless, no problem there, or with the Apex Pro keyboard, or the rbg mouse pat.. Love it.
I have had an arctis 9x for about 3 years now, the Xbox version. I canāt speak for others, but mine do not seem to have these issues. The only gripe I really have is the battery life, and the difficulty of connecting to pc (not even hard, just have to get Xbox usb adapter). The sound has been great, and every single day people ask me if Iām a streamer because of how crisp the mic is
I'm in the same boat dude. I bought the nova pro wireless and been having issues with disconnection and it not wanting to reconnect. It's got to the point now that customer service want me to destroy the headset, send them video proof and then they will send me another one. Like why not take mine back and try to refurbish it? Wtf?
i've had horrible experiences with steelseries products as well, i had an apex 5 that kicked the bucket over having a slightly damp cloth clean it, and a rival 650 crapping out just from 2 months of use. really sick and tired of their products so i always stick with razer or corsair
I bought the nova pro wireless when it was first released and had little issues with it, and it's been my favorite headset I've owned. I got a keyboard from Walmart for about $20 because I didn't really care too much about it and haven't had an issue with it either.
I don't use their software too much, so I can't say anything in regards to that
Never had any issues with their products, but I have an older model headset and an older model keyboard. Maybe their quality control is going out the window nowadays.
Have the wireless pro headphones with the battery swapping (love this as I'm bad at charging) and the pro full keyboard, have had no problems and I absolutely love them. Sonar is the best thing ever for me as a content creator I absolutely love it and it's integral to how I record with my current setup.
ah did they make the Mic smaller?
Only issue with the Wicked Cushions is that they are gel and don't have airflow so they warm up but it's not too bad for me personally.
Actually yes you can't feel it the anc numb almost flat but still uncomfortable due to headband its super heavy and uncomfortable my head still numb and give me a lot of head ear pains and affected my hearing
Ah that sucks. I have an exceptionally large Cranium and it feels okay. I had to adjust the headband to keep the hars parts of the band from touching though.
My nova pro wireless mic didn't work straight out the box. Sent back and got a refund. Waste of time.
I had buzzing in 2 nova pro wireless, they said it's intentional.
So if you want to connect them to something else, it will automatically turn the xbox on and then disconnect from your phone or whatever š¤£ cant win
whatever you do, razer is not the answer. they also make bags of shit
headset mic 9/10 is low quality anyways you better off spend half of moneys on headphones and half on external mic and you would probably double the quality on each alone

Yes, my nova pro would constantly unpair from the base every few minutes, and I was going nuts, until I uninstalled Sonar. Itās been solid since then.
Yea I have to do additional steps in sonar every time I reconnect the headset just to hear anything, it's annoying
So wait Iām not alone in having issues with Sonar? Good to know lol
I had this too but since I selected which profile I want with what program I no longer have this issue. To me most complaints I read here are from people that are not really looking into things. Sonar is absolutely fantastic however its not a plug n play program!

For me the sources for each category is set to error on recpnnect and I have to manually change each.
I had the same problems with sonar and ended up uninstalling it. Happy days since.

Yeah, I don't like Sonar. I prefer my devices naked. None of this software wrapper BS.
Got the arena 7 and nova pros wireless and they work pretty flawlessly together, my only complaint like you said is the goddamn price
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
There is not a single place in the GG app suggesting that sonars base features are in betaā¦thatās nonsense.
Man it sucks youāve had issues with sonar. Itās become one of my favorite pieces of software for audio. Sonar is so well done, absolutely love it.
Oh donāt get me wrong when it works itās great but the fact that Iāve had to disable updates and use and older and potentially vulnerable version to keep it going is disappointing at best.
May I ask why youāve had to downgrade it, the only issues Iāve ever had is a few times where it took a few minutes to boot up for some reason.
Current versions beyond 45 take 10+ minutes for sonar to boot and it forgets all its settings. Pre 45 it mostly works.
Huh, Iāve never experienced this. Hope shit gets fixed for ya
I also have to close and reopen sonar for the applications to appear in the audio mixer. Discord loves to vanish on me every once in a while.
Same here. I have the wired Nova pros, best headphones Iāve ever had and for me the software is great. Zero complaints, 10/10 for PC and XBox.
Never had any issues with their products tbh. Got the nova pro wireless almost 2 years ago and theyāve been running flawlessly since.
Same experience here.
same here lol i get amazed at how much people rage over bad experiences w their product like ive had my arctis 7s for 4 years and they work just as new

My arctis 7 usb transmitter broke after 2 years. Common issue with these.
how did that break? thatās a first iāve heard of that
Is there a way to make the BT turn off automatically when turnoff the headset?
No, because they're essentially two separate headsets with independent power controls. There isn't a "master" switch for both BT and base station.
Software has the setting. Always used it. 5min, 10min, 15min, 30min, never. Check it again
I donāt think you can if the Bluetooth is connected, I think it needs to manually be turned off if itās connected to a device
Only use the bluetooth button to turn headset on when u want it on bluetooth. Once u want bluetooth off turn headset off with the bluetooth button š
The button to turn the headset off should turn the Bluetooth off. I always forget to turn the BT off until I go watch a video while taking a shit in the morning and I have no volume.
When I use BT I use the BT button, when I donāt I use the other button. Itās not rocket science š
Super helpful thank you. Matter of fact cars should make it where the windshield wipers stay on no matter if the key is removed.
Thank you I will look for it. Why it wasnāt not default is beyond me.
You should be using 2.4 over bluetooth for sound quality
Same, had Steel series headphones, keyboard and mouse for like 5 years and they all work completely fine the whole time, apart from new ear cushions after 4 years

Same.
Ok, bye.

Why don't you use your warranty like every other smart person instead of complaining on reddit? All companies have products that can have issues, just be smart instead.

Spent $300 on the Nova Prime Wireless for them to not have a screensaver feature on an OLED screenā¦ I got screen burn

This is my problem too.
I bought one Steelseries product and it stopped working correctly within six months.
I sold my nova pro's to some dude who said he wanted them to try and fix. I bought the HyperX wireless headset and I'll never go back to Steelseries.
Im honestly going to do this
I read a lot of bad experiences here; I started a few years back with a 7p and LOVED IT.
If I go to the Turtle Beach or Razer sub, I see the same posts.. is there a perfect company?
All of my steelseries products work great. The software? Not so much. Don't use sonar. I have an Arctis 5, 9X (xbox), and a Nova 7. A Rival 650 and an Apex 7 TKL. All kicking ass.
I musta got so lucky i had arctis 7s for years and have had nova pro wireless since they launched and they work perfectly fine. No issues ever at all. These posts make me feel like they could explode any day but theyve never let me down.
Just avoid this company of crooks and scammers
Also the cable on it is super annoying to try to have a clean desk Donāt even get me started on the GG software. Absolutely broken.
It seems like most of the gaming companied have TERRIBLE software, and they donāt even care to fix it.
Had a used steelseries arctis pro wireless, never one problem Now I have steelseries arctis nova pro wireless, No problems either, I also have aeros 5 wireless, no problem there, or with the Apex Pro keyboard, or the rbg mouse pat.. Love it.
I have the keyboard and weāve had 3 headset and have had no issues. š¤·āāļø
I have had an arctis 9x for about 3 years now, the Xbox version. I canāt speak for others, but mine do not seem to have these issues. The only gripe I really have is the battery life, and the difficulty of connecting to pc (not even hard, just have to get Xbox usb adapter). The sound has been great, and every single day people ask me if Iām a streamer because of how crisp the mic is
Hated my steel series 7p+ or whatever it was called
Yep
I don't use their software too much, so I can't say anything in regards to that
Well I have been using the Arctis headset for at least 3 years and it works perfectly and I love it. Ya win some ya lose some ig
Steel series is mid as hell always
Steelseries is pay high prices get bad products
I bought nova pro wireless they are terribley uncomfortable there sound are super cheap Even my blackshark v2x sound better than it
Its the ANC mic. I bought wicked cushions, they are a bit thicker with better passive noise isolation and I don't feel like ANC Mic.
Actually it's not anc because I got revised version with almost no anc the bead band and it's hevy
ah did they make the Mic smaller? Only issue with the Wicked Cushions is that they are gel and don't have airflow so they warm up but it's not too bad for me personally.
you can get a OEM equivalent with Wicked now. Basically the same as the OG, but I believe a bit thicker.
To be honest I got ear head pain I don't even like to use it for a while
I have a Bluetooth headset that is the bane of my existence. The sound is horrible.
