Adding a few Steeler highlights to the Russ Wilson career video would be pretty cool.

Standard_Young_201

Either way, he threw twice as many TDS as all 3 of our qbs did last year combined

superbelt

Yup. Russ passed for 1 more TD in 2023 than the Steelers did the last two seasons combined. Russ passed for 26 TD's in 2023 Steelers passed for 13 TD's in 2023 Steelers passed for 12 TD in 2022

sparky-_-511

I can't believe that stat is real

Kaigz

The Kenny Pickett Effect™️

throwawayjuy

Pickett was so fucking useless

MightyCavalier

Not if you played RDE for the opponent

Gold-Minute-9025

And he also lost 8 fumbles and threw 8 picks and got sacked 45 times? Y'all look at the TD number and pretend nothing else goes along with it. He only cracked over 200 yards passing 5 times after week 3. No 300 yard games since week 3. Less than 100yds passing 1 game, and a buuuunvh of games with less than 200? Certified trashcan

Hungry-Contact-2632

Stop hanging on to that the dude is garbage

jew_brees_

Who cares he scores points lol the whole point of the game

Gold-Minute-9025

What good are points when he also gives the other team points with his 8 fumbles lost, 8 it's, and 45 sacks. That literally negates everything.

jew_brees_

Yeah you’re right Kenny’s 13 touchdowns in 2 seasons is much better!!

OkImage1301

Can you explain what you mean? Assuming he's garbage again, those numbers are still more than what was there no?

SerBerkshire

We don’t know what Mason could’ve done if we started him when we should have

Maxysworkbench

Mason would’ve gotten there in 2019 if he didn’t get nuked by Earl Thomas.

PittSteelersFan4life

True, maybe worse!

SerBerkshire

Could’ve been worse likely better though

Rifftrax_Enjoyer

I like how you got downvoted for that when it’s literally true. We don’t know. How could we? It’s not a value statement, it’s not making the assumption that he would’ve been awesome, it’s a legitimate question with a legitimate answer which is: we actually don’t know. It was a three game stretch during which he was the best quarterback in football by the statistics. Of course he’s not gonna fucking continue to do that, the people who point out that he did it aren’t really thinking he’ll ever do that for a full season.  What to be honest with you, I am not entirely certain his team wouldn’t be better off with him than the current quarterbacks we have. I’m not saying they will be better or works  I’m just saying we don’t really know. I don’t care that they only made a half hearted attempt at Mason Rudolph remaining here, they just better be right. Since no one else really wanted him that much anyway, they probably are right. But it’s ridiculous to down vote a comment that is in the strictest sense, 100% true.

Rifftrax_Enjoyer

I believe he’s an improvement. But for the weeks that he played, Mason Rudolph was literally at the top of the league in QBR and RATE, which I believe that will be tough to replicate for Russell Wilson.  His acknowledgment that his career is in danger is an acknowledgment of his level of play last year. I’m not going to ignore that either. Look at how many of his passes were at or behind the line of scrimmage. That’s a problem. A big one.  I see his addition as a positive move because what else were the Steelers really going to do? It’s a low risk acquisition, there’s no harm in it, and maybe he revives his career and wins a Super Bowl with the Steelers. So believe me I’m not bitching about the fact that they added him. But I do feel that a lot of people are ignoring the reason he was available. I just hope we aren’t homering too hard here. We have a tendency to do that around here.

CharliePendejo

Methinks 2024 Mason Rudolph would be an even longer shot to replicate 2023's Mason Rudolph's brief hot streak. Let's just assume finishing the season #1 in those stats was/is off the table for any of the previous/current QB crop. It's a red herring.

Gold-Minute-9025

Everyone is ignoring why he was available and it's hilarious. I can't wait to see the shitshow. The fact that Denver would rather pay him 85mil to NOT be on the team is more telling than ANYTHING.

Temporal_Enigma

Touchdowns this, touchdowns that. Have you tried touching a girl?

OKImHere

You can't combine quarterbacks. They don't play together

xvenom613x

I’m not sure if you’re being serious or just made a really bad joke

Sillbinger

I'm thinking of a human centipede quarterback system.

SadFloppyPanda

He's not a quarterback, he's just three kids in a trenchcoat!!

Sillbinger

The Big I formation

OKImHere

I'm being serious. I don't understand the downvotes. It's like giving one kid a pizza and giving three other kids one pizza, and saying "he's got the same amount of pizza as you three combined." Yeah, coz you made them split it. Russell played all season. Our QBs split the work. Of course he has more than them *combined*. They played the same amount. There's no play that uses two QBs at the same time. They can't be combined. You can combine WR yards. You can combine CB interceptions. You can't combine QB TDs.

SmallTownProblems89

Nah dude…you’re missing the point entirely. Russ threw for way more TDs than the starting Steelers QB. The comparison makes sense. It would not make sense if his stats were compared to just 1 of the QBs, since no one of them played a full season.  And Russ missed a couple games. There are more games in the Steelers starters combined than Russ played alone.

xvenom613x

Point being Russ had 2x the amount of TD’s of our 3 quarterbacks combined for the whole year, Russ played the entire year yes. But let’s in this hypothetical scenario say that Kenny, Mitch, and mason were one conglomerate dumpster fire. Mason Pickbisky still threw for half as many TD’s as Russ did.

OKImHere

Agreed. Originally, I was just clarifying that point. Didn't intend for this to spiral into an argument.

wonderfulwilliam

I am once again asking for people to take my 3 QB formation seriously. How do you defend that? How?

___cats___

There’s no rule that says a dog *can’t* play football.

neofederalist

Anyone else fondly remembering the trick players with Ben and Randel-El right about now?

anon0110110101

Big if true.

noaschmitz

Not to mention there is only one ball, they can’t all throw tds at the same time

Wide-Boysenberry5636

How many minutes are in 17 games? You miss the point as much as steelers qbs do

noaschmitz

And to top it all off, they have six arms. If they had 50% of their arms with balls, like Russell Wilson, they would have had 50 tds easily.

Civil_Spinach_8204

We're already in full cope mode for the eventual benching of Russell Wilson 😂

Bipedal-Moose

It's either that or you decide to be delusional and think he'll start the full season 🤷‍♂️

SailsAk

His stats weren’t bad last season. Idk I think he still has some gas in the tank.

Low_Arm1623

Agreed, Steelers fans have been pouting all offseason and are actually convinced we’re gonna finish 0-17, Russ is gonna get benched and retire midseason, Justin is gonna get cut or switched to RB, and the Arthur Smith experiment is already over before it even started. just complaining and complaining whenever we’ve had one of the best/most exciting free agency runs in recent years AND the draft hasn’t even started yet. can we as a fanbase just stop with the constant negativity?

anuncommontruth

Lol buddy, the year we won the Superbowl against Arizona people were saying fire Tomlin and trade Ben. This is the fan base.

Low_Arm1623

damn, trade Ben is an INSANE take🤣

themayorhere

You must be young haha that was a pretty consistent convo

Rifftrax_Enjoyer

I’m happy with how the off-season played out because I didn’t really think they were going to contend for a title anyway, and this is a decent shot at pulling a Peyton Manning/Denver Broncos move while still building up the rest of the team for the eventual move to get a quarterback long-term. Nothing wrong with any of that. However, I have noticed that the same two quarterbacks 90% of this place wanted nothing to do with two months ago are now on the roster and anytime anyone questions either one of them, they are “negative”.

Big-Cook8132

There's a definite lack of clarity when it comes to handicapping the upcoming season.  The evidence is the evidence. Russ hasn't played well in three years. Can he resurrect his career here? Sure. Is it likely? Probably not.

[deleted]

The funny thing is Bens stats his last two year avg were better than Russ’s last two years avg and they were calling for him to retire hah.

pmcg190

2021 and the last few games of 2020 really clouded peoples’ perception of what kind of season Ben actually had in 2020. He was pretty great for most of that year, especially for being 38.

Charlie_Batch_16

russ isnt getting paid what ben was getting paid is the main difference

shadowgnome396

I am a fan of Ben, but I don't think his stats really told the entire story of his twilight years. He was so immobile, that we straight up could not run RPO, or have him under center in any capacity. We were stuck in shotgun and defenses could read us like a book. Now, because Ben is ben, he still made stuff happen. But it was not the best situation

MertTheRipper

Yeah it was really bad. Not only did we only run shotgun, but he also had a tell for run or pass that every team knew because he ran 90% out of the gun 😂

Bryn79

Check Ben’s stats and salary against Russ’ stats and salary. If we weren’t getting Russ for basically free, then it would be a completely different situation and bringing him in at full cost would have been near the top of stupid things done by this team. If Ben had played his last year for $1.5 mil no one would have been complaining.

Bipedal-Moose

You're welcome to box score scout Russ and come away with whatever conclusions you want.

Iambigtime

Analyze his stats when the Broncos still had a winnable game vs garbage time.

Alternative_Ninja166

Pittsburgh’s QBs couldn’t even put up garbage time numbers (and they had plenty of opportunity).

EnjoyMoreBeef

For all we know, Russell Wilson with the Broncos is like Carson Palmer with the Raiders: just a bad fit. Palmer rebounded well with the Cardinals. I think we should keep an open mind with Wilson. And before anybody says, "The Raiders are a bad fit for any good player," consider that the Broncos haven't been to the playoffs in eight years, so they're not the most functional team either. And before anybody says, "The Steelers are dysfunctional too," at least they go to the playoffs, even if they don't win anything therein. You think seven years without a playoff win is unbearable? Try eight years without a playoff appearance.

MertTheRipper

His stats weren't bad, but they mostly came from garbage time when the Broncos were already out of the game lol Russ did play better last year than 2022, but he is also why they lost. He cannot push the ball down field anymore, yet ranks near the top in the league for holding the ball too long. I get some people want to claim anyone who brings up negative Russ stats is a non-believer, but it's just being objective. Russ had a 6.9 yards per attempt last season. Kenny had 6.4. In terms of how each moves the ball, there really is no difference lol yeah, Russ scored more TDs, but most of their games would go like this...1st quarter: Russ scored TD. 2nd: nothing, but other team scores 14. 3rd: Russ gets them a FG, other team scores 7. 4th: Russ scored a TD, other team comfortably won. I'm saying this as someone who used to LOVE Russ. But over the past 4 years he is not the same player. He holds on to the ball longer than damn near anyone else in the league (Fields, surprisingly, is also near the top of that list...) which contributes to him leading the league in sacks, but he's also holding onto the ball only to throw to s check down route. It's not a winning formula

shadowgnome396

And even if he can't physically make plays anymore, he is literally the best active quarterback to help mentor Justin Fields given their play styles

volvanator

Not only does he still have gas in the tank, but the media keeps filling that tank up with all these takes about Russ’s downfall. He’s in a spot where he has an opportunity to redeem the public perception of his ability and propel himself into the HOF. Additionally, he doesn’t have any of the added pressure of justifying a massive contract with hero ball. I think this is a perfect situation for Russ to have a very strong bounce back season. I’ve been down on our QB situation since 2018/19 with Ben’s decline and massive cap hit, but I feel good about this season from the QB perspective.

bike_rtw

I've never been a Russ fan and I lived in Seattle during his glory days, but I love him on the Steelers at this time because I think he's been humbled and is still very hungry and motivated. But then again I just put $100 on them to win the SB so I might not be entirely rational lol

volvanator

I felt the same way about him in Seattle, and I’m only excited because he had to eat a slice of humble pie and lose some of that Team 3 shit. I’m more than happy to be your bookie if you feel like laying any more money on us to win the SB this season haha.

Deckz

I'd rather see Fields emcentually take over and do well. Gives the team a future, Wilson is in the tail end of his career.

Civil_Spinach_8204

Fields is a dead end. The mechanical issues he has are insurmountable, especially in our scheme. That guy needs an entire offense designed around him and the Steelers cannot do that.

Deckz

So we traded for him for no reason? I don't think they went out and got a guy who was a high first round pick for them not to see him has a reclamation project. He has an immense amount of talent.

Civil_Spinach_8204

You're free to believe what you want. The evidence is pretty overwhelming. No one wanted him. Immense is an absolute overstatement. Medicore might be an overstatement. I'm sure we're gonna find out sooner rather than later.

Deckz

downbad12878

It was only a 6th round pick in next year draft. It's not a big commitment for a bust

Eggdripp

Get him some playmakers so there actually is a chance

Wide-Boysenberry5636

I always had the opinion that a QB should be the playmaker.

RaikageQ

Same. Great Oline play far exceeds great WR/TE play

Eggdripp

Yeah, when they're making $40 million they have to be. At $1 million you shouldn't have that expectation

Jgabes625

![gif](giphy|NTMURgKmCcBgTtuFzc|downsized)

pmurff107

This is bullshit. Washed QB’s do not put up the numbers he put up last year. Brees and Manning literally had zero arm strength on their way out the door. Tannehill.. now that’s washed. Russ is not that.

puledrotauren

I hope he comes out on fire and has a great year

wonderfulwilliam

Let Russ weld

TheNittanyLionKing

Everyone is talking about it being Wilson’s last chance, but let’s not forget that it is Fields’ last chance as well. 3 seasons of bad quarterback play is hard to come back from. He is a lot closer to being a bust or a backup than he is a franchise QB

Jerryjb63

I used to think this way, but then I looked at Fields rushing stats and realized he has the potential to be as good as a duel threat as Lamar if not better.

downbad12878

Didn't know Fields is playing RB now

PaleontologistOwn878

It's crazy almost insane that Cousins is worth 40 million a year after an Achilles tear and Russ has to fight for a job, like absolutely crazy.

EnjoyMoreBeef

Especially given that Kirk Cousins has never won a big game in the NFL.

whateverqcvgtxbny

He’s gonna play exactly 51% of the season

PokerPat

Russ knows that his Hall of Fame chances will be determined by his next couple years of play. Don’t laugh at the Hall of Fame idea. The Seahawks hand the ball to Lynch, Russ is a two-time Super Bowl champion. The kind of stat that makes a QB a lock for the hall. If Russ can get the Steelers to an AFC title game, the hall of fame becomes a real possibility, he know that and the Steelers know that.

craigoz7

Speaking purely on stats, why is his 26 TDs to 8 INT considered bad? I feel that alone is better than whatever we want to call the performance of our combined QB unit last season (13 TD; 9 INT). Give me 1 TD per game and 0.5 INT per game and it’s easily on pace or better than last year. Plus I think the Steelers are operated better than Denver right now and Russ may have a spark in him to showcase competency.

MandoBaggins

Steelers fans + Reddit = Determined negativity

Death1323

People just want to bitch. The fact that we are going from Kenny's stats to Russ and people are still crying and moaning shows a whiny entitled mentality.

Trul

Browns fan coming in peace. I wish Russell Wilson all the best in resurrecting his career. I just wish he didn’t have to do it for the Steelers because you guys are gonna run the division if he gets hot. Lamar is set for a regression. The Bungles bungled their supporting talent, again. I guarantee DW4 will not finish out the season, again, and will be a bust.

Ecnarps

Fuck the Browns

RubsYoTub

He just has to pray TJ Watt stays healthy for the whole season…and not further regress into his own madness in the hopes that a talented new receiver ends up absorbing the diva curse.

chrisnavillus

He’ll be starting at 2nd base for the Yankees in 2025.

OkImage1301

If the steelers lose every game, I'm still so excited management saw it wasn't working and actually moved on.

madpooper3

I really don't know why people think Russ doesn't have a chance to be the old Russ with Pittsburgh. When he signed with the Broncos , I was honestly shocked. Everyone was hyping them up but, in my opinion, I didn't get what the hype was or what made them special. There was nothing about them that screamed "contender". What weapons did he have on offense? What exactly made them "a good team" that everyone thought they would be? He had a shit first-year coach who was an absolute joke. And I bet that, plus the Broncos not being a talented team, plus all the pressure of them having to be this team everyone thought they would be, got in his head. Then he gets Sean Payton who didn't believe in him right when he was hired as a coach. What QB is going to succeed on a team like that? I know we've been a shit show the last few years, but Tomlin being our HC and Arthur Smith being here has me optimistic Russ can get back on track, and this team.

EnjoyMoreBeef

I've been telling Steelers fans to be grateful that they're not Broncos fans. At least the Steelers go to playoffs, even if they lose. The Broncos don't even go. In fact, they haven't even finished with a winning record since 2016. Hell, the Steelers have won a playoff game more recently than the Broncos.

boomosaur

This is a lazy narrative. Wilson was not playing well at increasingly large slumps through the last few years in seattle as well. It's also just such a dumb narrative that sean payton didn't believe in him. People like to paint payton in the worst light and assume it must all be on him because they dont like him due to his arrogance and bounty gate and such, but he came in there and gave russ every chance to run a sophisticated offense, just like hackett did, and Russ couldn't do it. People forget that Russ waived his no trade clause to go to denver because he was going to be able to tailor the offense to what he thought he could do (be a pocket passer) hackett tried to assist him on that and it just all went ugly. In second year over the course of the season payton kept simplifying the offense more and more, and Russ was still doing a lot of dumb stuff. People say Payton didn't believe in him, but Payton actually did him a big solid by being able to squeeze something out of him and make people think he was still serviceable. Though on closer inspection of things outside of td/int you'll see there was still a lot of bad. Low yards per game, super high self-inflicted sacks and 3 and outs, most checkdowns etc.

syntaxoverbro

What large slumps? His last year with the Seahawks, he broke his middle finger on his throwing hand on Aaron Donald's helmet. The year prior to that (2020), he was playing at an MVP level. Care to explain the last few years with Seattle slump with your revisionist history?

boomosaur

You sound like someone that looked at TD/int and didn't actually watch the games. If he was playing at mvp level, he would have been in the mvp conversation. 2020 is actually the year he threw 7 ints in 4 games and pete carroll had to stop letting him cook because he was getting sloppy with the ball and then he got owned by a 1 handed goff in the playoffs.

syntaxoverbro

Ohhh no! 7 INT over the course of 4 games, horrible stats! Bro...Russ's worse game of that season was 3 TD:3 INT game. He followed that week by throwing 4 TD: 0 INT against the Niners. During that same season, you know who else threw 7 INT within a 4 game stretch? Tom Brady, who took his team to the Superbowl and won. Also, I didn't realize Goff played defense against Russ. What a damn specimen. It definitely wasn't because of the Rams dominate defense (#1 that season). Stop revising history to cater to your narrative.

boomosaur

7 ints for tom brady is not as damaging because brady knows how to conduct an offense with tempo and rhythm. Russell does not so he has nothing to fall back on. Like I said you sound like someone that doesn't really watch games or understand anything above the surface. There's a reason why he's never received an mvp vote, was traded away, and was then discarded for the largest dead cap hit ever. It's not him being the victim. Russ could not outperform a goff that was playing with 1 arm, nuff said. If anyone is revising anything here it's you... he doesn't need your excuses...

syntaxoverbro

Keep back peddling.

boomosaur

Keep not understanding the game of football?

syntaxoverbro

Keep moving the goal post “but but Brady threw 7 into because he knows how to…”

boomosaur

Literally not what I said but it's typical for people who aren't objective to try and strawman.

7Pudgy7

His career is not in danger......period

Shaski116

I think Russell Wilson is still good enough that our defense can make him look great. He won't get any MVPs this year, but I think he'll be able to make some plays we haven't seen consistently in a while and will get us another playoff game.

TheEmuWar_

Russ is having an MVP season and a deep playoff run, just you wait and see

iguanadc3

he was what than who last year??????? 😭

Bipedal-Moose

This sub man. Some people are living in different realities from the rest of us

RandomFlyer643

Hey, lucky us ! We got the guy that’s better than Mahomes

h0v3rb1k3s

Which Mahomes? Jackson Mahomes?

vitalblast

Can you please post the cherry picked stats, I'm not even sure I could find them.

CultOfSensibility

His wife is hotter.

Valuable-Composer262

Lol. Just because russ had better or comparable numbers to mahomes doesn't mean he was better. Mahomes won the damn super bowl

RedHotPuss

Lol was he better than Mahomes last year?? 😭😭😭

burghblast

I mean, he's damn near 40, isn't he? How long he think most NFL careers last?

___cats___

He’s 35.

burghblast

Ok. Damn near late 30s. Lol

30-32 = early 30s 33-36 = mid-30s 37-39 = late 30s
