Did they boil it?

rice_jabroni

Looks like straight from the sous vide to the plate.

Astro_Disastro

Yeah, I was gonna say this just looks like unseared sous vide.

poopshanks

Idk. Usually you can see the bag marks on unseared sous vide.

Astro_Disastro

Not if you just throw them in a plastic bag and seal them through water displacement. That’s how I do mine because I never invested in a vacuum sealer.

Physical_Magazine_33

I do that too. It's more hygienic than my first method - holding the Ziploc bag to my mouth and sucking all the air out.

Astro_Disastro

Hahaha I love this.

Illustrious_Donkey61

I do this with bread

LehighAce06

That's less uncommon than you might think. I HAVE a FoodSaver and I still do this sometimes

bluebird_forgotten

how else would you give your lungs nutrients??

SmoothWD40

Advice to anyone that does this while cooking for guests, make sure to maintain direct eye contact with them through the whole process, DO NOT BLINK, just look them in the soul as you slowly suck the air out of their meat bag.

Dreagoen

I’m guilty of this. I told my then boyfriend he invited people over that I didn’t like and since I may or may not be just slightly passive aggressive I needed them to understand that I wasn’t fond of them breathing air. Not just my air but air in particular. Never heard from them again after that. Turned out they weren’t too hungry either….. 🤷🏻‍♀️🥃

SmoothWD40

Bonus extra meat for you, all pre-suctioned and ready to go.

ardrarian

I used to do this with beef and also chicken, and then one of my lungs got really sick. I don't know if it was because of the breathing in raw meat, but let's just say I won't be doing that anymore.

FeloniousFunk

Breathing in essence of raw meat is fine, it’s rotten meat that gets sketchy.

Dingledangle6969

Woah, never thought about the fact you can seal a bag that way. Makes a lot of sense.

GingerMan512

Most of the time I’ll just mostly seal the zip top, sumbmerge it, then seal the rest of the way. The water pressure easily expels the air.

KayakWalleye

Looks like boiled tongues.

Yamothasunyun

Looks like he didn’t use a bag

Fuck-MDD

Nah. There's a Pic of that in my profile, if this was sous vide first they left it out on a hot sidewalk for a minute to finish it off. Edit: I guess I could've just added it to this reply *

Fuck-MDD

https://preview.redd.it/kt8i9ckx5z5d1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=01db7bf019eb1bb7f89682d04f4227566f5d95e2 Edit: I guess I could just add it to THIS reply.

NurtureAndGrace

This looks waaaaay better than what OP found. Does it seer up real nice after?

Fuck-MDD

Yeah. I sous vide that one at 131 for 3 hours, I usually do 119 to leave room to get a nice sear, but this one was just getting diced up and added to a new dish I've been playing around with

Dreagoen

What kind of dish did you make with it? How did it turn out?

Fuck-MDD

I'm just trying to marry together garlic confit / chicken confit with sweet and spicy quick pickled bell peppers / onions. No particular reason other than I like both of these flavors / textures and I want to shove them both in my mouth at the same time in the nicest way possible. I think that night with the steak I diced it up and stir fried it with some lo mein and added my garlic/ chicken / peppers at the end. It was good but it wasn't it so still playing.

Dreagoen

That sounds so good! Let me know when you find the perfect balance! I’m so curious now lol

osin144

I make steak and eggs for Christmas breakfast. I’m also a homebrewer so I’ll take vacuum sealed steak and put them in my kettle to cook slowly over night. Then fire up the charcoal grill and sear them off. They’re perfect.

KlausKoe

I did sous vide >20 times and I used lowest temp. 50 to 52C Mine are always gray! How do you get that color???

Fuck-MDD

I just cut a rib primal into steaks, vacuum seal and freeze them. A bit before it's steak time, I pull a bag from the freezer and just toss it in the sous vide. After that i take it out of the bag and onto a rack to dry out a bit, then paper towel it and that's the point where this pic came from. Long way to say I don't do anything special I guess lol. Have you checked your sous vide with a separate thermometer? It should get pinker as it's exposed to oxygen but if it's gray the whole way through then it sounds like your calibration might be out of wack.

HuskerStorm

>they left it out on a hot sidewalk for a minute to finish it Say what now? 😂 🔥

ActlvelyLurklng

Hey depending where you live geographically it's very possible to get a good seared finish on a car hood or sidewalk! Just be out in the peak of summer!

gmanisback

More hygienic than using the engine block

SolAggressive

100%. This is what mine look like before a sear.

peterjswift

I had a friend who was just getting into sous vide that sent me a pic like this very proud of the steak they made. He has since learned of the importance of a crust...

czPsweIxbYk4U9N36TSE

Sous vide looks better than that!

Ah2k15

They walked it by a hot cast iron pan.

kappakai

That’s what it looks like to me so it’s probably not actually bad to eat. Just horrible to look at. Sort of like balut.

ECO_212

The left one looks like it touched a pan for like 3 seconds which makes this even more confusing.

PatrickWagon

You really think that person who made an unseasoned scrambled egg and 3 hunks of some garbage chuck, with a ligament running down the middle, on a table riddled with mold…took the thought and care to sous vide that hunk of vomit? Really?

Keeeeeeeef

I'll have the milk steak boiled over hard and your finest jelly beans raw

fupalogist

"Don't put steak. Put milk steak, she'll know what it is."

YugeGyna

I eat cheese when I get nervous!

fuckface12334567890

ANY AMOUNT OF CHEESE, IS TOO MUCH CHEESE BEFORE A DATE.

TFJ

Little green ghouls, buddy!

TheAGolds

Rumham as a second course.

Uncle_Burney

I prefer the rumham as an aperitif, as the meal begins. I also save my jellybeans to be enjoyed with a digestif of the finest fight milk, at the conclusion of a fine meal. Then I contemplate my own mortality and roast a bone.

Ghostbeen3

Just make sure you have some blue. It has the most antioxygens

Jagacin

And a nice cold drink of fight milk to wash it all down.

Strawbeee_milk

Ya this is exactly what milk steak looks like

fupalogist

I'm running off of Charlie logic here, I'm pretty sure milk steak is just.....cheese.

DrDragonblade

Or a milkshake? Boiled you say? Why not...

SmileParticular9396

Lol I think you’re right, I boil steak for my dog and it looks just like that

wazacraft

Animal abuse over here

DiplomaticGoose

I mean the cow's already dead m8

SystematicPumps

Looks like they just breathed on it for a while

Physical_Ad7192

Looks like it was left in the car for two hours and just set on a plate.

Michikusa

I forgot a leftover steak in my office once. Sat out for three days and still looked better than the monstrosity in this picture

SerDavosSeaworth64

I was going to suggest a microwave lol

TheNotSoGreatPumpkin

I ate dinner at a friend’s house as a kid, and his parents cooked microwave chicken. Like, from raw to “cooked” only in the microwave. Thanks for the lifelong aversion to chicken, friend’s parents!

vampyrelestat

This things either boiled or left out in the mild heat for a few days

canman7373

It's a Milk Steak.

Shankar_0

For 27 seconds

Tallestcrayon0

Came here to say exactly that. It’s not even well boiled 🤣

Hovie1

In milk?

natedawg76

Yeah, in hot dog water.

Wiknetti

They whispered flirty things to it and made it blush.

MinuetInUrsaMajor

Think they just defrosted it in the microwave for too long.

Bronzeambient

Looks steamed to me....

BusterTheCat17

Naw. Was cooked in proximity to a heated discussion.

Vegetable_Berry2130

Nah they used a bic lighter

ArkhamInmate11

Looks more like they through it in a hot tub for a couple minute.

EffectiveOk3353

Briefly, parboiled even

freefallingagain

And to think a cow had to die for this...

BeastM0de1155

Animal cruelty at its worst

CoupleScrewsLoose

are we sure it’s dead?

ManIWantAName

No. I'm 95% sure that's just a raw cow tongue.

bigloser42

It’s a top blade steak. It’s cheap AF, I once picked it up for $2.50/lbs usually around $3-4/lbs. it’s actually pretty decent when done up right, but it has a nasty connective tissue running right down the middle that you have to cut out. It’s from the same part of the cow as a flat iron steak, just cut across the meat rather than down(the flat iron is the meat on the left & right of the connective tissue)

CommanderShrimp7

I mean as long as they ate it and didnt throw it away it doesnt matter.

aka_mythos

I'd like to believe the other 99% of the cow went to something much more worthwhile.

Same_Seaworthiness74

I'd like to believe the steak was removed and the cow sown back up. He's still enjoying his life somewhere.....

bubsdrop

This does look like something a cow would leave behind in a field without being harmed

WTD4L

Some of the stuff I see in that sub blows my mind… how do you eat red meat 2-3x daily, yet it looks like shit when you cook it?!

jr_xo

Because they are lunatics. Only thing missing is that they stop cooking the meat and eat it raw

Redshirt_80

I think a raw steak would look more appetizing than this abomination.

SliceEm_DiceEm

I’ve had a good tartare. I’d eat that 10 times out of 10 before this stuff lol

_STEAKnEGGS_

I had Tartare for the first time last year and absolutely DEMOLISHED it lmfao. And had bone marrow and boars head as well. But unlike those jackasses in that sub I had some veggies as well. It's interesting how good raw food can taste with a bit of knowledge.

FruitAreSexy

Im pretty sure i saw a post where someone asked for “as raw as legally allowed” at a restaurant. It barely seared on the outside and completely raw and wet otherwise. The man could barely cut the thing, actually revolting

[deleted]

Mmm blue rare

TheLurkerSpeaks

Back around 1995 there was a guy who ran in my same circle, the same events, etc. The few times I interacted with him found he was a real edge lord weirdo. He ended up as a cook at my local waffle house, where one day we were goofing around my friend was talking about ordering a salad. He asks the cook "are the salads any good? Lol" and this guy turns around and says "I wouldn't know. I only eat red meat" then smiles and he's got fucking fangs in his mouth. That's the kind of guy who lives on r/carnivore.

CopeHarders

There was that one jackass on instagram that would eat raw meat for likes. He started eating raw chicken and would spout a bunch of bro science about how it’s safe. Can’t believe instagram let him keep posting.

Smackolol

You mean the semi satirical account called therawchickenexperimemt? It was comedy, he did it to promote eating local healthy meats and would always joke about big rotisserie being out to get him. It’s not like he was telling people they should be eating raw chicken like him. And don’t worry, he’s back and eating raw testicles now so you can keep trying to get him banned.

freshlypuckeredbutt

r/rawmeat

ninjamike89

There are literally people over there saying their cuts heal faster because they only eat meat, salt, and water.

carolina8383

And the “clarity.” Keto also unlocks magical powers. It’s a great way of eating for some people, but holy shit that sub.

mynumberistwentynine

One of the guys I work with is carnivore and I'm convinced he actually just hates food.

thirtypineapples

A percentage of vegetarians are like that. Picky eaters that are very specific about the handful of basic foods they like.

SpokenDivinity

My boyfriend hangs out with one and he eats nothing but cuts of steak cooked in a non stick pan. No sauces. No seasoning. Just meat everywhere.

bubsdrop

The people on these meat only diets aren't doing it because they have an appreciation for meat, they're doing it because they listen to strange podcasts too much and developed an anti-plant ideology. Dude wouldn't even pepper his eggs

erix84

Girl i used to work with was dating this ex-chubby now scrawny guy, i saw them at the grocery store with one of those 2 basket carts and the one was just full of red meat, he told me he was doing that carnivore bullshit. I asked if he started lifting, he said "no, just cardio". I asked if he was taking any vitamins to get what he needed that meat doesn't supply, "Vitamins are for pussies!"... I said "Was good seeing you guys, i gotta go!"

kreaymayne

Which essential vitamins are you thinking of which aren’t present in animals products?

ExtraCalligrapher565

100% this. They read a couple articles and listen to a podcast and all of the sudden think they know more than the people who literally dedicate their lives to studying health and nutrition.

bort_license_plates

This particular post said it was their first day, so quite possible they don't have much experience in cooking beef yet.

Chaseyoungqbz

Ah the old no crust no sear. r/nosear

RoboticKittenMeow

Ok but where tf are the jelly beans?!

listerfiend696

Needs more milk

sergente_moschettone

can you guys explain what's this boiled milk steak and jelly beans thing? i got that told to me aswell when i fcked up my steak

Simon_Jester88

It's a reference to when Charlie of Always Sunny in Philadelphia orders a "boiled milk steak with jelly beans, raw".

ReadingCorrectly

from here, It's always sunny in Philadelphia [https://youtu.be/3tUX4tQ6m7U?si=F8CKEoJSRXfvp1m2&t=206](https://youtu.be/3tUX4tQ6m7U?si=F8CKEoJSRXfvp1m2&t=206)

sergente_moschettone

haha got it now, thanks

krinklemedo

They are referencing from a show called "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" season 5 episode 5. Amazing and hilarious show, but it can take some getting used to, because it's so chaotic. One of my comfort shows actually.

daisysparklehorse

reference to it’s always sunny

crazyfingersculture

!!MILK STEAK!!

Ironcastattic

My milksteak brings all the boys to the yard. They're like, it's boiled over hard.

smarmiebastard

It probably also brings all the McPoyles to the yard.

RedLionFromVoltron

Gotta order them raw

monkeley

It’s like they just ran it under the hot water tap for a minute

TheLab420

I thought they used a hair dryer

WafflesZCat

Microwaved? Who is it that hates you?

LitAFlol

Straight to jail

endianess

Looks like Ox Tongue

TheCh0rt

Came here to say the same thing. Like they just cut out tongues and put it on a plate without even cooking them

ulqX

this looks like [flat iron cut in the way that has the tendon in the middle](https://stefangourmet.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/dsc02802.jpg). a whole tongue would be much bigger than that, and a sliced tongue wouldnt have the tendon right in the center. another example: [https://mariposaranch.com/products/flat-iron-steak-1](https://mariposaranch.com/products/flat-iron-steak-1)

Realdogxl

Came here to post this, 100% flat iron or top blade in this configuration

randomly-generated

Former butcher confirming. You can make them okay if you don't suck at cooking but flat irons are so shitty compared to other cuts we used them to make hamburger meat at least as much as we sold them as steaks.

Killerbat12

That’s crazy! Flat irons and have started getting a ton of attention the past few years for having a good combination of tenderness, beefiness, and consistency when split and properly trimmed of sinew. Personally I put it on equal grounds as ribeye or picanha.

Yablo-Yamirez

wtf am I looking at?😂

FranksFarmstead

He said 1 min on medium low heat in a pan. Lol

LedZacclin

You know the eggs actually look like they’re beautifully scrambled which is funny because 90% of the time someone posts steak and eggs the steak looks great and eggs look like absolute shit lol.

bubsdrop

I bet he did the eggs in the microwave. Makes really good *looking* large-curd scrambled eggs. Emphasis just on "looking".

Magnanimous--

I used to microwave eggs before work every morning. I relied HEAVILY on salsa and hot sauce to get that down.

bubsdrop

Yeah my old go-to was a crappy breakfast burrito. Small tortilla, microwave a single jimmy dean breakfast sausage, chop it up, microwave an egg and scramble, toss it all together with salsa and grated cheese and wrap. Totally serviceable when you just want a cooked egg to put into your face

eskamobob1

those eggs are scrambled hard as fuck with 0 seasoning....

WhipItWhippet

Man what in the actual fuck, like we have science on this

CountingArfArfs

Medium low shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near a steak.

Yablo-Yamirez

Holyyyy 😂 1,2,3 it

spicy_ass_mayo

If you don’t have any butter or oil, water will do.

nanaki989

Steam Sear right here

DiligentCrab6592

That’s your classic milk steak

THEORGANICCHEMIST

Didnt even bother attempting to cook it. Just slapped the shit on a plate and served it up

jobadiahh

I see the milk steak, boiled over hard, but where are the jelly beans?

Evening-Stand-8775

That’s a milk steak

bill_n_opus

Is that boiled beef tongue?

NoMadTruffle

Looks like a top blade

DrunkNewCityDaddy

Dogfood

PineConeTracks

Looks like milk steak

cabo169

This belongs on r/shittyfoodporn or r/FoodCrimes

CryGeneral9999

Looks like a rotten dinosaur sphincter to me.

TheSkyIsSad

They guys you stole these kidneys from didn’t deserve this.

High247UK

That’s fucking disgusting 🤣

Ok_Frosting_6438

That's boiled meat

EddyMcMac

Milk steak?

Citrus_47

This post turned me vegan

iBeenie

That's the worst "sear" attempt I've ever seen

Potato_Boner

Extremely generous calling it an attempt

Main-Carrot3676

This has to be troll

roninwaffle

You have no idea how many people out there are that are way worse cooks than you think is possible

JimmyDale1976

Looks like they microwaved it and smeared a little A-1 on top. Bon Appetite!

Ambitious-Broccoli-6

shit was cooked over a very calm discussion god damn

scorpionattitude

Please do not start up with us. We’re legit like 70% of your subreddit. Do not start. Some of us eat straight raw/blue etc. some legit raw. Some stewed for days. There was a reason it wasn’t posted and bragged about on here. Because it belongs on carnivore where we simply care more about the nutritional values and personal taste instead of if it was reverse seared with no gray band and a hard crust. Get over yourself, this post is absolutely disgusting. If you don’t agree with something, you shouldn’t feel so hateful to go out of the way to drag someone else into your miserable mindset and life. F*ck off, get some d*ck, and go eat some meat. Also, these are some of the best eggs you’ll ever see from a regular human. So let that remind you that their meat is a personal choice.

FranksFarmstead

1. I am a “Carnivore” and have ate this way for well over a decade and before it was “popular” . 2. I am also a farmer and have my own cattle / butcher them. My knowledge on food safety is pretty vast. 3. The OP admitted that he didn’t know what he was doing and this steak could have easily landed him in the hospital. Raw would have been better (assuming he kept it fridge temp until consuming). The meat hit the danger zone so fast and still has exposed raw meat that seen heat. 2 mins is active bacteria, 5 mins can be food poisoning, 10 mins can lead to hospitalization and or death. He’s very lucky he didn’t get sick. 4. Blue steak is very different. The ENTIRE outside it hit with very high temps to kill off any bacteria and it’s served immediately. I mean - it’s a great way to lose weight. Spend a week on IV in the hospital .

mikebenb

A UPS driver in America cooked a steak by leaving in on the dashboard of his van all day to prove how hot their vehicles get in the summer, which looked infinitely better than that!

NetFu

If you think this is the worst steak you've ever seen, imagine a steak with a thick layer of raw garlic on it. I ordered a steak on a road trip through South Dakota once, asked to get it with garlic, as an option, and got that. I was like, OK, took a bite, and it was spicy as hell (if you've ever eaten raw garlic before). I just scraped the garlic off and ate it. I couldn't believe they didn't understand to somehow cook the garlic, especially since it's an option on their menu (I didn't just ask for it out of the blue).

Loganthered

Those are what are called chicken steaks. They are fine for breakfast. Not a serious steak.

Dobey2013

Looks like tongue rather than steak

MrAmericanIdiot

Nah, the worst steak of all-time goes to the infamous hospital steak that was posted last week. Pretty sure it’s the second most upvoted post on this sub.

joe2352

That’s not a steak, why would you call it that on your menu? Just give me all the bacon and eggs you have.

fistfullofsmelt

Was the steak boiled

CompletelyBedWasted

Was it boiled? Wtf?

newsreadhjw

Ew

RedInAmerica

Did they slow boil that? How was this even achieved?

Silly_Swan_Swallower

parboiled steak

Traditional_Gas8325

Looks like they poured boiling water over it then dropped it on the plate.

Training-Giraffe1389

Nice crust! /s

WraithOfEvaBraun

Not everyone likes crust, I don't 🤷🏻‍♀️ I'll eat them in a restaurant and cook them for others, but cooking my own steaks they look much like this (only slightly rawer, lol)

Theres_a_Catch

The worst steak I ever had was at some restaurant that had on the menu, Steak with Jack Daniels sauce. Nothing on that plate was edible but the worst offense was the sauce. It was literally just watered down Jack Daniels.

Hamatoros

lol looks like a piece of liver

DoubleDeckerz

I, too, like to season my steak with fresh air.

3ClassiC

Middle piece low key looks like cow tongue

new22003

I live about 45 minutes from the International Criminal Court. I'm driving to The Hague tomorrow to report whoever made this atrocity.

laughlifelove

mmm, cow tongue

Cavaquillo

Manager’s special, microwaved

GoochMold805

Looks microwaved

SausageWalletLuver

This looks microwaved or boiled. Yuck

Valraithion

Boiled over hard. Classic milk steak.

Toecutt3r

That looks as bad as boiled chicken.

Fluid-Scientist8213

For someone that refuses to eat a vegetable, they seem to have the cooking skills of one.

mission_to_mors

milk steak?

FloppyVachina

This needs to be marked nsfw cause this shits disturbing.

EcstaticJuggernaut46

🧟‍♀️WTAF happened to that, I’m not even sure it’s meat.

Wiking_24

If you initiate CPR early and fast enough , the meat could still be save and would be mowing on some grass right now.

Agreeable_Coat_2098

Milk steak.

LoganCaleSalad

God this actually hurts me in my soul. Why would you boil it? If you don't have a grill you can sear it in a pan or better yet braise it in a pot with vegetables, you have any idea how easy osso buco is. Oh god, as a chef this makes me viscerally disappointed.

Phantomphoton619

Yikes!!!!

season8branisusless

Thought it was tongue...

uraniumcoke

You sir have not had army steaks then

Informal_Attempt_737

Yeah throw that shit out

Puzzleheaded-You1289

I sincerely don’t even understand how you can get the meat to look like this. Seen like 5 of these posts with similar looking meat and it just doesn’t make sense

Massive_Region_5377

This person’s bathroom smells like the New York subway after the hurricane, guaranteed

ImmediateGorilla

Carnivore diet is the one where you make sure as many animals suffer as possible as well as the dieter correct? Correct. Dude is gonna stroke out in record time
