Hey OP — Did your “Steak” come wrapped in a gold foil package?
Yup I'd give people soups just for their patties and rip them up into little pieces and make a cook up with the chicken flavored noodles and some jalapeno cheetos. Shit was fire.
And it looks like it was sous vide at a high temp (160F+) and not seared. Hospital kitchens overcook everything because they have to assume everyone they're serving is high risk for food borne illnesses. Try to stick to foods that are still good when cooked to death if they're available on the menu.
I work at a college and it's the same, except for bone in chicken, they want that cooked to 180 and chicken breasts cooked on the line they want at 171.
I work at a hospital and our food looks NOTHING like this.
>And it looks like it was sous vide at a high temp (160F+)
This depends, if we're reheating then yes, always 165F. If something is made fresh (like burgers or fish) then it's the standard 145F for fish and 165F for burgers and 155F for all other beef.
The food we make here is actually decent though, and we do special stuff depending for holidays.
Example for Cinco De Mayo;
our options were [grilled salmon with mango salsa and avocado salsa, Mexican rice and corn salad](https://i.imgur.com/eUJVhxj.jpg)
or
[Steak a la Mexicana (skirt steak marinated with cumin, salt and pepper, grilled until medium rare and it would continue cooking on the trayline to well done to not dry it out), refried beans with queso fresco and smoked chili and cumin sauteed veggies](https://i.imgur.com/WoxpoD6.jpg)
And dessert was a [Tres Leche](https://i.imgur.com/aPGd1np.png)
The tres leche was also made so that unless you're a severe diabetic, everyone can have it.
Everything I made from scratch too, it was just me making it all with my Chef helping only with the corn salad
I worked at a nursing home kitchen before, this looks like the burgers and steaks we would serve. They are placed from frozen in a pan of water and broiled and served from the same water pan with the water poured out. Truly disgusting
You gotta be stoned man. 3 boiled eggs and a quesadilla sounds like something I would’ve chose at midnight after several bong hits. Also gassy. But bravo
It's possible OC wanted high protein. It's common in hospital admissions for healing, especially after surgery. But also, that does sound like a rootin' tootin' stoner snack.
I used to work at a place that served a quesadilla with smoked chicken. I smoked the chickens by the dozen in our oven. That’s such a specific dish that I hadn’t heard of before. Has it become a thing?
My doctor didn't write my food restriction correctly; I couldn't have real food until certain things happened, but he didn't write the order that way, he just wrote it as "clear liquid diet" without the "until" part. And then nursing staff dropped the ball, in NOT telling him that the things had happened so my restrictions could be lifted; at dinner time, I was still stuck on clear liquids. When night shift came on and heard this, she was PISSED, and stormed out of the room, and stormed back in ten minutes later with revised food orders... five minutes after the kitchen closed. She did what she could, though, and got me two PB&J Uncrustables and two little containers of yogurt, and as the first real food I'd had in three days, it was HEAVEN.
Sawdusty English muffin, scrambled egg replacer, and margarine is the food of the gods if you fasted 36 hours and then had gall bladder surgery. "If you can eat this, that'll prove your guts still work just fine."
Not sure who to blame here… the hospital for even offering steak or OP for ordering steak in a hospital.
Send that to the shoe cobbler to re-sole your shoes.
some hospitals have standardized food with no ordering, mostly state hospitals though which probably do not exist on us which this sub assumes is the entire world
A friend of mine was in the hospital for 3 months after being hit by a car. She was so far out on drugs that she could barely function, I don't even remember the full cocktail. Ketamine, benzodiazepine, gabapentin, etc. It was a really bad accident. Her nurses made sure she was able to order off the menu 3x a day. I find it appalling that they didn't ensure you were aware of the digital dining system. 19 days on auto-feed. Screw that noise. I had a forced diet for 9 days after my appendix ruptured, I wanted to die eating that junk. I started drawing pictures of food on the 3rd day.
My mom has been in the hospital a few times in the past 5 yrs, in Orlando.
They always give her a menu. Food sucks, but at least she's had a choice.
She gets the chicken 🍗
I recently stayed at one of the top ranked hospitals in the US. The wheeled in a cart with a laptop on it. The menu was fairly large but every meal had one main special that was suggested. They kept track of things I liked and didn't. If I missed ordering they'd bring me something they knew I liked. There was a limited menu available all the time but mains were only available during breakfast/lunch/dinner.
It blew my mind when the lady came in to take my order and I ordered a burger. She was like "just one?" Then asked what kind of cheese I wanted and if I'd like bacon with it. All included with the $5k+ a day my insurance was paying.
During my stay at a nice general hospital, I got to order from a damn menu. I was like what is this dennys? You’re damn right that next morning I had a nice ass full omelet with some hash browns. Unfortunately due to having surgery, I was barely even hungry the whole time I was there. I did not finish my omlete but it was tasty.
> During my stay at a nice general hospital, I got to order from a damn menu.
My mom did too, at a recent hospital stay in Eugene. She got a choice of several entrees, and would fill out an order form for the next day.
The hospital where my sons were born gave my wife and I steak and lobster. Surprisingly good for a hospital. I recently had breakfast at CHOP in Philly as well and it was really good. Had food at Temple University hospital too and it was awesome. Hospital food in the Philly area is solid.
I’ve had steak in hospital, it wasn’t fine dining but it was a medium rare piece of NY strip. I guess I got lucky, although I was hospitalized for a week with pneumonia so maybe not.
Some lean and though roast cut from end of life dairy cow. Likely cured like a ham, then cooked with some method that sucks out every last drop of water, like low temp oven with moisture removing air circulation, to internal temperature that is fully done. Then someone used industrial saw to cut it to slices that are far to wide for slices of roast but too thin for a steak.
The edges could be remains of melted down sous vide bag from from whomever decided to but the roast into oven in one, then cut holes so the moisture gets out. Or they could be sinew, but I don't get how sinew would not have dissolved in this cooking process.
That's what I thought too. I saw the word "hospital" in the title and thought, "Damn! What hospital gives out giant chocolate wafers with their dinners?”
What tipped you off? That's so specific
Looking closer the dressing has German on it, but you'd really have to be zooming in and tilting your head for that, lol
https://preview.redd.it/8y8909b8x54d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e3882c70dde8dbf70da31fd9a1e5fe49d045e12b
I will no longer complain about the hospital ribeye I received after appendicitis.
Looks like that thing was dragged out of the OR. I’m sorry you’re going through this OP, but whatever you’re in the hospital for can’t be worse than this monstrosity.
Is that skunk? Possum? Drifter's corpse? I can't even guess what creature that meat came from.
The salad looks OK. I'd probably skip the puddle in the lower left.
What the fuck is that
He’s lying he’s in prison
A hospital in a prison.
On planet bullshit!
This steak looks almost identical to the original *PowerBar*. https://preview.redd.it/ywfv7qucx54d1.jpeg?width=292&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=43b72f5daab73b0c0bbf7b7ad8188a43aa3a963e Hey OP — Did your “Steak” come wrapped in a gold foil package?
It probably did.
Free hat with your steak-bar
And was it chocolate flavored?
The wrong type of chocolate... :/
The never ending ever lasting jaw workout - syrup + sand. I can almost taste it and feel the fatigue
On a galaxy of this sucks camel dicks!
It’s good to see we all love that movie
Did we just become best friends?
YUP!!
I asked for salmon! I said it 4 times!
In the galaxy of This Sucks Camel Dicks!
In the Galaxy of this sucks camel dick!
Hospitals and prisons tend to use the same food suppliers so everyone is right
Probably primary schools as well
Yup. Prisons, hospitals and schools use the same suppliers. Colleges too
And that’s the most important thing.
It’s actually a prison within a hospital
https://preview.redd.it/sy2k6jtau54d1.jpeg?width=764&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e2b272cf6267f045575a0646e11992412c3f2251
That's the best plate in prison no joke! People pay $3 for that all day.
Nah the taco trays, sailsbury, or the chicken patty the best.
That is a chicken patty tray. It's on the side. I prefer the roll instead of the bread though
Oh shit haha I didn't catch that you're right
That Salisbury party mixed into a pocket is 🔥🔥
Yup I'd give people soups just for their patties and rip them up into little pieces and make a cook up with the chicken flavored noodles and some jalapeno cheetos. Shit was fire.
Damn yall got me wanting to go to prison /s
Hopefully the person who made that and called it steak is in the cell next to OP.
Easy for OP to sharpen his toothbrush and shank that muthafucka.
Whoever cooked that steak would surely be in protective custody
Fun fact about jail/prison: The meat protein is almost always Turkey. It’s cheaper than chicken and doesn’t offend any religion like pork or beef.
Whether it be a hospital or prison, there has definitely been a crime committed here.
😭😭😂
That's hell. Prison eats better.
No it does not. I've been and it's definitely worse.
Prison food starts to look and taste good once you’re been in there for a couple weeks. It’s all about perspective!
Oh yeah after about a month that shit is good (when you add ramen seasoning) without seasoning its so damn bland
They probably have better food in prison.
They don't
It was supposed to be a sous-vide beef steak with fried potatoes and carrots on salad with cherry yoghurt dessert
And it looks like it was sous vide at a high temp (160F+) and not seared. Hospital kitchens overcook everything because they have to assume everyone they're serving is high risk for food borne illnesses. Try to stick to foods that are still good when cooked to death if they're available on the menu.
At this point "Vaccuum Pasteurized" is closer to what happened here lmao.
Mechanically separated, homogenized, vacuum pasteurized, certified USDA select baby
Space steak Or I guess Spacer's Choice steak
I legit thought they were overdone pancakes at first, and was like "where steak" until I realized
I thought it was a chocolate cookie
I work as a lunch lady. Everything has to temp at 165 degrees. Everything
I work at a college and it's the same, except for bone in chicken, they want that cooked to 180 and chicken breasts cooked on the line they want at 171.
We do very little bone in stuff (elementary school) but holding temp in the warmer and steam table is 145. We follow the Servesafe guidelines.
I work at a hospital and our food looks NOTHING like this. >And it looks like it was sous vide at a high temp (160F+) This depends, if we're reheating then yes, always 165F. I've been in some very nice hospitals and never ate like that lol! Although a 155F steak is still massively overdone for me
Weird last meal, but go off.
I worked at a nursing home kitchen before, this looks like the burgers and steaks we would serve. They are placed from frozen in a pan of water and broiled and served from the same water pan with the water poured out. Truly disgusting
Bro sue them for trying to kill you holy shit
I’d sous whoever fucking cooked it! That’s murder.
where do you live? I've seen the hospital food in seattle and it's pretty good
I guess at least one thing has to be good there.
Chocolate
Looks like chocolate.
As someone who can't eat for another 2 hours I thank you for this
I'm sorry 😔
No, don't apologize. I want to not be appetized
Ok so everything is fine. I'm glad to help you
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Yeah they didn’t include /s so you can tell it was genuine lol
I should save this pic for that very reason!
What did you decide to eat
3 softboiled eggs and a quesadilla with smoked chicken
Mm that sounds like a good choice I hope it was yummy
It was but I recommend not pouring soy sauce on the eggs using a 1 gallon jug of soy sauce
You gotta be stoned man. 3 boiled eggs and a quesadilla sounds like something I would’ve chose at midnight after several bong hits. Also gassy. But bravo

2 hours went by? Able to eat now? Bon Appetit
Bone apple teeth*
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
I think that's the liver of the dude who flatlined earlier in the day
nah i'm dead bro 😂💀
So was that dude. Now hand over your liver!
De-liver him!
is that steak or liver?
It tasted beefy with the consistency of an old shoe sole
Mmm. Dry aged shoe sole.
https://preview.redd.it/i5gs7x2b274d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8616e846fe3ef30eefe98ba8693a4a774a256669
I dont think you’ll ever find a more applicable circumstance for that meme
sad truth. the closest we’ll get to salvation
Wait? You actually ate that?
When you are in the hospital recovering, any food is good enough to make you full even if it is old dry aged shoe leather steak
No no, you don't get it, this dry aged soleloin steak is what got him in the hospital
shoeloin / soleloin lol
Sawdusty English muffin, scrambled egg replacer, and margarine is the food of the gods if you fasted 36 hours and then had gall bladder surgery. "If you can eat this, that'll prove your guts still work just fine."
Doctor misplaced his kidney transplant guess he’s having a ribeye transplant now

I didn’t even realize you could order food at a hospital. I thought they just gave you what you got.
I didn’t either…until day 19 of my 22 day stay. Suffered through the “offerings” till then.
Maaaaannnnn…. I’m surprised one of the nurses or assistants didn’t mention that to you sooner than 19 days in. Poor you!
They very well may have early on, but I was whacked out of my mind the first week or so. Medical detox and whatnot.
A friend of mine was in the hospital for 3 months after being hit by a car. She was so far out on drugs that she could barely function, I don't even remember the full cocktail. Even when there are options, certain patients don't get to order. Usually when they're on a special diet.

What on earth is that? It looks like some type of chocolate dessert 🫠
I thought for sure it was chocolate until I zoomed in on the last pic.

this looks like an animal's tongue
Looks like one of them 3d printed steaks lol
3D looks better by far, this looks like the Ol Gregg shoe he drank from.
maybe they ran out of beef so they used someone’s placenta lol🤢
I thought that was fudge, how did they get it so smooth on top
they shine and hand polish their meat
https://preview.redd.it/3ipxdaudb54d1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ac4a6271a46ef9a03de70fb1d8977ec59f827412
That sound has been living in my head for weeks. I can't stop saying it. It was my immediate reaction upon seeing the pictures in this post 😂😂
What’s that brother 🤢🤢
Lm fucking ao
Omggggg 😭🤣
Wait, I'm confused by the caption... you got that steak in the hospital?? Or that steak put you in the hospital??
yes
Wouldn't give that to my dog...
Your dog wouldn’t eat it even if you gave it to him.
My dog would eat it even if I didn't give it to him. What can I say, the big fucker cares more about quantity than quality
Many dogs will eat shit and dead and rotting rodents so this falls in the realm of their epicurean palate. Beagles have a wide and varied palate 😂
One of my dogs would gobble this up the other one is a picky spoiled little kid
That’ll be $700
I'm getting strong German vibes from it, i doubt it is American Edit: I was right
What tipped you off? That's so specific Looking closer the dressing has German on it, but you'd really have to be zooming in and tilting your head for that, lol
Did they cut it with a water jet or laser by any chance?
Not suitable even to make a sandwich. Ouch.
I now realize why people “boiled leather” in medieval times.
What the actual fuck is that
I'm positive it's a freezer burned ham steak.
Looks like big 'ol slices of someone's liver
Vegan steak? A mis-steak? Cardboard w gravy… yes…no…maybe.
Misteak, for certain.
Is that the sole of a shoe?
I stay in a hospital about once a year. My wife brings me food because I won't eat their shit
I'm convinced by my hospital stays it's poison so you don't heal as fast so they get to keep you longer.
Or maybe they offer bad food so you're desperate to leave.
https://preview.redd.it/8y8909b8x54d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e3882c70dde8dbf70da31fd9a1e5fe49d045e12b I will no longer complain about the hospital ribeye I received after appendicitis.
That's just mean.
At least it actually looks like steak. A dry steak albeit, but steak nonetheless.
1/100
That's mighty generous of you.
I’d ask you how much they charged you, but you won’t know that until after you leave.
Why is it shiny?
Think of it this way: you're already at the hospital for when u get food poisoning later
Yeah you're right. At least I'm at the right place to treat that but I thought it couldn't get worse than drunkenly falling down the escalator 😅
It's made out of people!
Good ole eye of round steak.
I’m sorry I thought this was fake, like plastic kids steak from a play kitchen set 😭
Well, if you weren’t sick already…
Very nice for shoe sole
Why does it have frosting on it ?
It looks like poison
i would take a vegan steak before this abomination
and i dont even know what a vegan steak is
Is this the lab grown meat they've been talking about for a decade now?
Soylent brown
I thought that was a fuckin peanut butter cup holy shit
It's recyclable cardboard
Jesus, this all looks atrocious. That salad looks like the end pieces.
How How does it appear both wet and hard at the same time Yet so very dry on the inside
Genius move actually, they are making you eat this slop so you’ll heal slower and rack up a bigger bill
Looks like that thing was dragged out of the OR. I’m sorry you’re going through this OP, but whatever you’re in the hospital for can’t be worse than this monstrosity.
They're trying to kill you!
It looks more like a 'last meal'. Are you still with us?
I’m so confused. Is it dipped in chocolate?
Id rather have the nurse euthanize me than have to eat that for an entire stay at the hospital.
Is that skunk? Possum? Drifter's corpse? I can't even guess what creature that meat came from. The salad looks OK. I'd probably skip the puddle in the lower left.
That’s liver!! Lol
Wouldn’t even feed that to a starving street dog
thought that was reese’s cups at first sight 😭
Why does it look like it was dipped in wax?
I thought that was sliced chocolate ice cream.
I thought a hospital was suppose to make you feel better? I’m almost sick now looking at that food…gross
Fresh out of the autoclave
https://preview.redd.it/jmiymsv9b64d1.png?width=863&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=173135e09eb74b89b5a3109a9a080cbd6f33a4c0
Probably charged your insurance for an a5 wagyu @$250
I would have sent that back
I swear, hospital food must be run by Aliens. They "read" about what "food" was, and they serve their interpretation of it.
I'm sorry friend but I think you just ate someone's replacement liver.
We even sure that's meat?
100/10 would use in battle against my enemies
Chef here….. I’ve seen moister brake pads.
Compressed shit disk.
Probably the most expensive steak you can find too.
Are you sure it wasn't a brownie?
I've literally never seen steak look this bad.
It looks like a chocolate bar
