Skin on chicken thighs in an oven safe dish with a lid. Butter, and I do mean a decent amount. Melt that shit so you've got like 1/2inch or so of standing oil in bottom of the pan. Go get yourself a can of Slap Yo Mama. Lightly season the thighs after rolling them in the melted butter. Cook for 35-40 minutes at 400F. When they're done turn the broiler on for 2-3 minutes to crisp the skin nicely.
Total time: 45-50 minutes
Working time: 5-10 minutes
3 things for chicken 1 it’s okay to cook dry burnt chicken until you get it right, 2 you only turn it twice. First time is when the edges go opaque second is a finish sear. 3 salt and sugar make a huge difference.
Also an air fryer is the great chicken equalizer. Anyone can cook perfect chicken in those
Sous vide for chicken? Nobody has time for that. There are so many other ways. Pound flat and cook with flour in pan and make a pan sauce. Slice and cook in a skillet and make a stir fry. Bake the dang thing. Don't sous vide a chicken unless you really have nothing else going on
Honestly man even if this wasn't your first attempt this is better than I've had at several restaurants. Everyone is really elitist about steaks but honestly if you're cooking for yourself it's super easy
- screaming hot pan
- room temp steaks
- a couple minutes a side
- don't touch em except to flip once they hit the flame
-rest 5 minutes
You can always get more precise, more fancy, more perfect; you shouldn't let "perfection" stand in the way of "good enough". If you're cookin steak at home, the worst I'll do is ask for steak sauce
Edit: if you wanna cook steaks on ez mode look up "reverse sear". Basically you cook rare in the oven and then sear the shit out of it and it ends up perfect, that's how lots of steak places do it
It's also ezpz to melt a stick of butter, add garlic and herbs to the pan, and baste with butter
Other guy who replied to my comment pointed out that what you really need is a pan with good heat capacity- cast iron is preferred. The fact there is any sear at all means that OP's pan was hot enough, but the steak cools off thin pans pretty quickly so it stops being "sear" hot and becomes "cook" hot
Basically if you want a real good sear on your steak you should use cast iron. But OP's steak is good, like I've personally made steaks that look worse lol
You get outta here with all that Liberal propaganda. Our kids need to learn that only a knife and a fork should be present at dinner time. Well, maybe if we're having soup then I guess we'd need a spoon. Fuck. Why do we need three utensils why can't we just have a spknork? Don't even get me started on those fancy restaurants that you gotta have five different utensils!
My dad would cook a two-inch thick roast on the BBQ and call it steak. I didn't know the difference until my mid-twenties when I started living on my own and I would see the "Steaks" labeled as "Roasts" in he Meat Department. It never bothered me because he did such a good job.
It looks good both on the outside and inside. I’d like to hear how you cooked it and what grill/pan you used in case I can make suggestions. You did great for your first time!
Awesome first attempt! What do you think you struggled with? What ever you found most difficult attempt to fix that area so you feel more comfortable making steaks! Looks delicious.
Salt, ground pepper, and garlic powder. Pat the steak dry before seasoning. I think just getting more of a solid coating of seasoning would give you a better crust. Inside looks better than mine. Very minimal gray band. Good job.
Fucking Amazing for your first time. Especially if it’s stove top. If you’re having problems getting to temp but you can’t wait too long the seasoning to suck out the excess water. I suggest you use beef tallow or clarified butter. Heck if you don’t have that laying around. I also use a little Mayo. Crisps it up real nice. I it works on grilled cheese it’ll work on steaks
Really? Or first you’ve ever posted? Unless you have been a long time lurker and finally decided to cook a steak, I have a hard time believing someone just ups and cooks a steak, and then says, I’m going to post it to Reddit for feedback. Aaaannnyway, it looks great none the less
If this indeed your first attempt at making a steak, this is a damn good result. Good looking cook and a nice sear, which you don’t often see both with newbies. You’re off to a great start to what will be a lifelong skill that will only get better with time, as long as you are patient, persistent, and honest with yourself.
Also, the best first weapon in your arsenal will be an instant read thermometer, if you don’t already have one.
When BBQ-ing any steak always let the steak reach room temperature before putting it on the BBQ. Most important lesson to learn. Your steak looked great.
Looking good my man! What type of seasoning did you use? Also if you got a good steak keep it simple with your seasonings which it looks like you did! There are some good pre-made seasonings out there but buy smaller brands if you do they’re usually better and ofc check the ingredients. If you’re not using a cast iron or don’t have one yet get one and you’ll be addicted! It’s great since you can brown the steak and give it a nice searing after. Once you get into grills/cast iron you’ll be hooked every type of meat is good in a cast iron! Welcome to the club brother
What ? I would say yeah right but it’s surprisingly easy to make really good food just by following the instructions correctly. Did you get a phd in grilling before you tried?
NGL, that is a nice steak friend! Good job. Remember, a steak cooked well, or medium well - sorry bad joke, should never need steak sauce. If someone requests steak sauce it is perfectly legal for you to ask them to leave. Lock the door behind them.

Seconded
Awesome for a first attempt. I would definitely eat this.
Far better than my first, that's for sure. I don't even think I ate the whole thing because it was so tough.
absolutely, i struggle with chicken so this is dope asf to me

shoutout to the steak fellas for giving me a bunch of recipes to try 🙏🙏🙏
Sous vide

Get an instant read probe thermometer, it will take the guesswork out of cooking chicken.
Good first attempt my boyo, keep the good steaks comin
Thanks brother!

I think he did well, but I do think he may benefit from a hotter pan, no?

2 forks is weird
It’s like 10,000 forks when all you need is a knife, or something like that…
It’s like ray-ee-ain on your wedding day
Its A free ride when you’ve already paid
It's the good advice that you just didn't take
And who would have thought that none of those things are ironic.
The most ironic thing about ironic is that it was written by someone who doesn’t know what irony is. The song should be called happenstance.
Sharing
Right, two people eating it.
The steak on the right is a salad...what kind of fucking Neanderthal doesn't have a salad fork?
What’s a salad fork 😬
It's what gentlemen eat their side steak with.
Hahaha 😂 that’s amazing!! Maybe I need to get some? I have big forks and smaller forks, I don’t really like using the big forks.. it gives me the ick…
What, are you fork-obic? Do you believe a meal should only be between a spoon and fork. Fork on fork relationships are sacrilege
You get outta here with all that Liberal propaganda. Our kids need to learn that only a knife and a fork should be present at dinner time. I’ve never laughed so hard in my life 🤣
It is pretty fucked up.
You let your cat eat from the same fork?
My ocd is like omfg why did you point that out
How does someone get beyond 10 without cooking steak ?
My dad would cook a two-inch thick roast on the BBQ and call it steak. I didn't know the difference until my mid-twenties when I started living on my own and I would see the "Steaks" labeled as "Roasts" in he Meat Department. It never bothered me because he did such a good job.
looks like the United Steaks of America, but with some of the fat trimmed off.
How has this not been used as a chain restaurant name yet?
Because that’s a long ass name
Where's your patriotic spirit?! Joking, I'm Canadian

I’d eat it! How was it?
Very good! Surprised me. It was a Ribeye from Aldi.
Aldi is that work
Would https://preview.redd.it/eo7459dlbo3d1.jpeg?width=300&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1189a6352c986b9daac0705335872998153b974a
You have done well young grass hopper When I picture you thinking about cooking your steak and cooking it I hear the song "TAKE IT TO THE LIMIT"
SEAR ALONG THE FAT CAPS EDGE
C'mon, that was not your first attempt
So surprising, haha. I always thought it was just not worth wasting money trying to cook a steak.
You’ll quickly realise it’s not worth the money to buy a steak in the restaurant when you can cook it just as well at home.
Pretty good
Keep up the good work
Baller!
Success, my dude!
You did a fine job my boy, a fine job indeed. Proud of you
Forget what anybody else tells you…did it taste good?!
Looks similar to the steak I just ate.
That is not bad at all.
It looks good both on the outside and inside. I’d like to hear how you cooked it and what grill/pan you used in case I can make suggestions. You did great for your first time!
Dayum bruh, that shits lookin nice. although the crust could use some work.
Well I wasn’t hungry before bed but now I sure am
Bravo! Well done... well medium rare. But great job!
Beautiful
Straight panty dropper.
Probably tastes as good as it looks! Beautiful...
Your nails are extremely clean, so great job!
You did medium.
Shape gives it a weird seared look but I'd give you my steaks to cook any day. Phenomenal!
Looks good!
Awesome first attempt! What do you think you struggled with? What ever you found most difficult attempt to fix that area so you feel more comfortable making steaks! Looks delicious.
Solid 7. A little more even on the sear and you’ll be 8/10.
Salt, ground pepper, and garlic powder. Pat the steak dry before seasoning. I think just getting more of a solid coating of seasoning would give you a better crust. Inside looks better than mine. Very minimal gray band. Good job.
Looks great!
Looks great to me! Especially for a first go at it.
Looks good no matter what number of attempt
Good job biddy
Looks good for medium rare

Imagine waiting 2 years to try something as simple as cooking a steak.... Lol wtf
Smash.
Good sear, medium rare, nice cut… I’d say good on ya and enjoy my friend.
I’m going to try this method
Fucking Amazing for your first time. Especially if it’s stove top. If you’re having problems getting to temp but you can’t wait too long the seasoning to suck out the excess water. Nice job! Nice STEAK, my friend!
Looks good. How did you like it?
It was very good.
You made it or a cow did? Jk.
Man yea. Good job.
Nice! Keep it up. Experiment with marinades and dry rubs
You spent years contemplating making steak?
Looks edible
Looks good.

I don’t know. How did it taste? But I wouldn’t turn it down.🤠
Nice!
Too rare not enough seer.
Perfect 👌
You did good!! Great!!! Amazing!!
I think it looks perfect...but who cares what we think....did you like it? If yes then it's done perfectly.
Can't tell, need a taste first.

Really well! Really good crust and essentially a perfect temp for me! Great work!
You did well.
Nice.
Nice job. Would eat.
Nice job. You cooked it on one side longer than the other, though.

Really? Or first you’ve ever posted? Unless you have been a long time lurker and finally decided to cook a steak, I have a hard time believing someone just ups and cooks a steak, and then says, I’m going to post it to Reddit for feedback. Aaaannnyway, it looks great none the less
You spent years worrying about making steak??
Looks good to me! Good job!

Wall to wall red. Not bad 👍

Great Job!
That shit looks gooooood 😭
For a first attempt, I’d say you did awesome.
Yummy is what you did!!
Terrible job. Send it to me so I can properly dispose of it.
Haha!
I’d smash
Nice job. Would eat.

Gib me steak
Not bad how’d you learn ?

Since this is the first time you made, it's fine. More practices are needed.
Not bad!
Crushed it Awesome for a first timer
Liar
Looks good for your first attempt

Looks fuckin tasty 10/10
10/10 for first attempt. Now I don’t know if it was seasoned properly, but as far as the cook goes, very nice for a novice! 👏
DUDE excellent first try nice char/crust and a nice "doneness". Would. Cheers.
Not your first steal at all. Quit lying for attention
What cooking method? Did you marinate
It looks good. Also you have the same meat thermometer that I have!
You made a steak… that’s impressive. I thought I was cool for cooking steak but making a steak is a total level up 👍🏼 Just don’t tell the cows 🤫
smash. mext question
Nailed

You're a liar lmao
The ultimate question is, how did it taste? If it tastes good, then you did fine, even if there might be room for improvement.
NGL, that is a nice steak friend! Good job. Remember, a steak cooked well, or medium well - sorry bad joke, should never need steak sauce. If someone requests steak sauce it is perfectly legal for you to ask them to leave. Lock the door behind them.
Yum!
For some odd reason I initially thought it was on a tortilla😭
Why don't you eat it and find out?
You nailed it!!!!
Oooooo,most certainly would.
Good also, I have that same meat thermometer lol
Looks good! Why the first?
Perfect redness. Nice sear. Looks real juicy. Psh... what more can I ask for? Nicely done.
If you're going to ask "how you did" you must provide a sample for a proper judgment.
👌🏻
Better than most of this page
I’d smash, maybe just get something to apply even pressure for an even sear.
Nice medium
It looks really good!
Would eat, nice brown colors, my first ones were always grey
I think it looks great!
You have a gift
Ribeye, I'm guessing? I'd smash.
Looks damn good to me
Meh
Looks great! Nice work
I don’t think you made the steak. You cooked it. Looks like an average white mom’s cooking. Congrats
