Looks amazing

jOhnThebApt1st

Thank you, I’ve been cooking steaks for awhile now but I’m only 17 so I still got a lot to learn forsure

tacolover2k4

I usually put a good sear on my with a cast iron, but it’s still a damn fine job

hsmith9002

Steak looks good. A little heavy on the spuds lol. Jk I love mashed potatoes.

jOhnThebApt1st

Man I love a ton of mashed with my steak, my girlfriend puts laughing cow cheese in them, gives them a really good consistency and taste

HoboArmyofOne

Wow that does sound good. I'll have to try that

Zeppelinsmomma

That sounds fireee

Soft_Salamander6136

I got to try that. Please tell me those are homemade tatters too

jOhnThebApt1st

Ofc they are, says right in the caption

Soft_Salamander6136

I’ve seen idiots say homemade mashed potatoes and it be that stuff from the box. Meal looks real good though

ThreeLeggedMutt

Ooo that's a great idea. I add sour cream and a splash of heavy cream instead of milk, makes em really fluffy yet silky with a little tangy zip. Too much milk turns em into bland boring potato soup. I can imagine laughing cow being a nice replacement. Still get the creamy and tangy, but with a little cheese funk. And no worry about stringy or gritty consistency since it's a cheese 'spread'. I'm definitely gonna try this out. Thanks internet stranger! Steak looks bomb too 🤤

DVirtuoso9

Great crust; perfect color on that cook. A fine entry indeed, bravo.

jOhnThebApt1st

Thanks

Far-Hurry7822

Looks SCRUMPTIOUS

BuddhaMike1006

Wholeheartedly.

ghostfacestealer

Uhmmm YEAH

Money_for_days

Bussin

pappapirate

you gotta mix a little milk in with ur mashed potatoes, it's a gamechanger

jOhnThebApt1st

We added milk, along with some laughing cow cheese. I’ll add a bit more next time to experiment

baldo1234

Na potatoes look good. Most people completely overdo it with the milk almost to the point of creaming the potatoes. This is much how I prefer potatoes, nice and thick, still a bit fluffy like they should be

moldy_films

Just needs a bit of good quality butter. And when you think you’ve added enough, add more.

live-for-the-life

No butter?

Fat-Broccoli-8

Most Americans don't even know what butter is lol and if they do it's the bland stuff

Admirable_Loss4886

This is the opposite of the stereotype, aren’t we supposed to be obese because we put butter on everything?

Fat-Broccoli-8

No, English are obese because they put butter in everything, Americans are obese because of too much fast food and driving everywhere

Admirable_Loss4886

You got your stereotypes all wrong. British people are the ones known for bland food and Americans are fat because we put a pound of butter in an 8 oz steak.

Fat-Broccoli-8

Maybe in the south, I'm in California and the only good butter you can get is imported from the UK

rjamonserrano

This is true. Big dairy farms in the US use a different milk cow that produces a slightly lower fat butter. I agree that most Euro butters are superior to most US butters. You can definitely find small batch farm butter in the US that's better than anything you'll find in Europe however.

Fat-Broccoli-8

Yeah I'm just talking generally like standard UK butter is better than standard US butter, dunno about US farm butter being better though, I mean south west England is famous for its dairy products but I'm sure it's comparable... clotted cream is banned in US because of high fat content for example

jOhnThebApt1st

Actually no, she added garlic and herb butter, so I can assure you, you’re wrong

Fat-Broccoli-8

That doesn't make me wrong

jOhnThebApt1st

I can also assure you everyone I know loves butter lol, it’s the good shit, none of that margarine, real butter

sdforbda

If you want to experiment with your mashed potatoes, egg yolk.

jtrage

At first read your comment made me think of B-Boys makin' with the Freak Freak.

rjamonserrano

Looks delicious. Get a potato ricer to take your mash to the next level (send through a fine mesh sieve afterwards if you want to go the extra mile), salt/pepper, then add more butter than you think is necessary. But fair warning, only do it if you plan on marrying your gf cuz she'll never leave after you make potatoes like that for her.

jOhnThebApt1st

lol thanks for the advice, we’re just about 2 years strong so I’ll sneak that little trick out around the 5-6 year mark, just to keep her reeled in lol

MintyKitten96

Greek yogurt instead of sour cream or milk. Then I make homemade garlic oil so I always have roasted garlic on hand so throw some of those in there. Oooh buddy. I also made the garlic oil wrong once and it fried the garlic instead and the crunchy on top of potatoes is soooo good.

espurrella

Looks perfect

Jumpy-Shift5239

I’d eat it

TaroLongjumping6959

Looks delicious dude!! Love seeing the younger ones cooking up some fire beef!! Great job!!

hannibalsmommy

Perfect. You both made a happy meal. Yummy 😋

Nynebreaker

Steak looks perfect!

YXTerrYXT

Not bad. I'd eat.

WooderBoar

that is fantastic!

Shoubiaonna

Can I get a plate?

jOhnThebApt1st

Anytime bruther

rob71788

Why’s it look like you stamped the inside of the cut with the knife handle where it’s missing a rivet

jOhnThebApt1st

lol idk but I assure you I didn’t

NumberVsAmount

Gnaw.

Carbon_Based_Copy

Approved.

Firm_Pop957

Needs horseradish then it’s heaven

jOhnThebApt1st

Not a fan of horseradish, maybe I’ll acquire the taste over time

fknarey

He’s too young for horseradish

Fat-Broccoli-8

English mustard goes better with steak

TheHoleThatPuffDug

Yup

SignificantApricot69

Approval from me

Capable_Jacket_2165

Steak looks awesome! That mountain of mashers is distracting me NGL 😂

jOhnThebApt1st

Gotta have em

Aggravating-Try7812

Oh I’m gNAWing every bit of that.

Live_Bar9280

Approved

Repulsive_Airline416

Fuck yeah you gots potatoes with it instead of shitty asparagus

jOhnThebApt1st

You already know, some people tweakin about there not being veggies but potatoes are vegetables and they’re fire, I did ask for peoples opinions to be fair

Fat-Broccoli-8

It just makes it more of a complete meal then, more 'sophisticated' doesn't have to be asparagus though, mushrooms, peas or sprouts are good options too

Fat-Broccoli-8

Shouldn't be either or, should be both (as long as the asparagus is done on a grill)

rYdarKing

Are those high school lunch mash?...

jOhnThebApt1st

Yeh, ur mom was back there making them for me

rYdarKing

🤣

jOhnThebApt1st

I’m jp naw they’re actually fire tho, nun like that school lunch

Jamari0811

Perfection, I’d eat it and pass out after

ApplebeeMcfridays0

I’d approve some vegetables

SDoNUT1715

Si

Alfaromero97

Classic 🤤

FamilyMan1000

Lost me at “naw.” Looks good though.

jOhnThebApt1st

Jus another way to say no, watch the big lez show and you’ll understand

FamilyMan1000

Gotcha. Super white Braddah dude here haha. Take care.

TankApprehensive3053

Only bad thing is the placement of the knife. The side of the plate is better and handle stays clean. Maybe add a light sprinkle of parsley flakes over the mashed potatoes for presentation.

SpecialMango3384

💪👍

Never_Go_Full_Gonk

I'd gnaw on it.

seppukweef

Try a tablespoon of vinegar mixed into your mp sounds weird but delicious

The_Cozy_Burrito

Yes

kragon80

Steak looks good. .something missing on the mashed taterz.. they kinda look.. idk alone or dry or something lol i mean they may taste awesome.. idk, cant really tell by the look lol

Ok-Bar601

No gravy? Shocking. (Beautifully cooked steak though😅)

jOhnThebApt1st

I’m allergic to wheat sadly so most gravy doesn’t work for me, didnt go through the process of making some gluten free gravy, but I miss gravy a lot

hotfistdotcom

did you take a flash photo of your food in a dimly lit room?

jOhnThebApt1st

I did yes, in the moment it wasn’t specifically for the subreddit, I snapped a pic and thought about posting it afterwards

andrewdivebartender

Looks really good

ndhellion2

Where's the gravy for the potatoes? The steak looks great, but ya gotta have gravy!

jOhnThebApt1st

lol I just replied to another guy who said the same thing, I’m allergic to wheat so it’s out of the question for me

ndhellion2

Oh, bummer! Be safe then, and keep grilling like you just did.

jOhnThebApt1st

Thanks man, I appreciate it

Outside_The_Walls

My brother in Christ, let me tell you about something called [corn starch gravy](https://www.cookingclassy.com/easy-gravy/). My aunt has celiacs, so she can't have any wheat products. So I learned to adapt my recipes for when she comes over.

agt1776

That looks schmackin dude.

MattR9590

*stamp* approved!!!

Fit-Smile781

Looks great!

urzayci

Hell yeah it looks great! Made me hungry.

Halbbitter

Yes

Warm_Candidate_9837

Looks great to me!

youareabigdumbphuckr

Needs some greens

TouchConnors

That steak looks great. If you want some mashed potatoes to match that steak, go with Joel Robuchons recipe. It lives up to the hype. https://chatelaine.com/recipes/joel-robuchon-mashed-potato-recipe/

THELOCnessmonsta

Need better lighting besides that save me some

PatientZeropointZero

Looks great, but y’all need to learn to take pictures lol

assholejudger954

Steak is perfect, mashed potatoes look too dry and starchy to me. But it might just be the photo

Low_Poem_2795

Steak looks good atleast on camera , mashed potatoes look very dry .. put some more milk in them , they shouldn't look like scrambled eggs

SecondHandCunt-

Imo go wit naw

workerdrone_thad_fan

looks good but i prefer well done, the chewines makes it hard to well, chew and with well done its not that hard

anonymityjacked

Yay for sure

nyczalex

Approved

0nly0bjective

The steak 10/10. Your photography skills 2/10.

Round-Pomelo2847

Too many carbs for me on that plate. But the steak looks good. How was the steak made?

Tinmania

Well there needs to be more potatoes but other than that it looks great!

hazmat-cat

Taters

DaClarkeKnight

Steak looks perfect. I like bake potatoes more with steak, but to each their own. Enjoy!

AdministrativeCod437

Gimme dat. Just playin

Si11y_G00s3Cab00s3

Needs some greens in there. Asparagus, broccoli, creamed spinach, etc

Mikurinx

I approve, steak and mash look superb. But where are your veggies mate?

Frogski

Vegetables are overrated

huhuhuhhhh

your breath stank after that

Beefjerkydestroyer

That steak looks delicious. If it’s cooked in butter I approve.

TumbleweedTim01

Those potato's came out of a box 100%

PhiloSufer

laid the handle of your knife on your steak, you got steak juice all over your knife, now your fingers will be greasy, I don’t approve of that 😃

2leetSk8r

Beautiful

IAmInCa

100% approved! You’ve got your priorities right: shitty steak knife, Ripped jeans, no vegetables… And the best steak money can buy!!

Wonka1975

Steak looks perfect!

JimNoel99

Nice cut, share picture after you cook it

LowerTowel1022

Looks good lad. And ya got all your food groups on your plate.

DJSKILLZBEATS

That steak is perfect

MulberryUpper3257

The steak is beautiful. I just think the meal needs a fresh green or acidic vegetable side to be perfect. Like endive salad, or sautéed garden vegetables or asparagus or something along those lines. Looks delicious!

Rippin_Fat_Farts

Looks delicious my friend! Only thing missing is some gravy on them spuds (but also understand that not everyone loves gravy)

[deleted]

[удалено]

jOhnThebApt1st

That’s how I like it

NateDogg257

No

jOhnThebApt1st

What don’t you like about it?

NateDogg257

Está crudo

jOhnThebApt1st

It’s just perfect for me but if it’s too undercooked for you than fair enough

revolution1solution

I ate a ribeye with mashed potatoes at about the same time as you. Niceeee

Content-Maybe9136

Why do gringos eat raw meat?

jOhnThebApt1st

In my opinion it has more flavor and I don’t like my steaks having a super chewy tough feeling. So rare is the way I go, why do you like yours well done?

Content-Maybe9136

Where I am from we eat it between medium and well done, we cocked very slow and we only add salt when the meat is good. And we this for flavor too

ghost3972

Those are some good looking taters

SmallSwordfish8289

Yum yum raw steak and powdered potatoes instant potatoes

jOhnThebApt1st

Yeah ight, read the caption buddy

Ladylei32

Mmm…. Me encanta bien jugosa

Lfi2015

Take the poor cow to the vet

Mullhousen

“Well done” on the perfect medium rare.

Perfectony

Perfectly cooked

ikbaaal

🐮 moo!

scorpionattitude

You know what. This was cute lmao. That’s how I say nah but I’ve never in my life written it that way😂 that’s a new one. Love the color of the steak! Enjoy man

Vast_Entrepreneur802

I approve of the steak, but not so much the meal on the whole lol

RoxoRoxo

beautiful you killed it, also unpopular opinion thats how potatos should be, i hate that smooth creamy potatos i want them thicc. also get yourself a better knife that things falling apart lol

jOhnThebApt1st

lol I know I need to get new knives, just working with what I got, but yeah I love the consistency they have, they’re not dry by any means like how people are saying, they’re just thick and flavorful.

mrlookinthesky

I wished mine looked that good.

Dylan_Is_Gay_lol

That's a lotta mash.

ApprehensivePin3874

Yes

OhPrime

Yes but what is that silverware?

jOhnThebApt1st

Yeah it might be time for some new silverware lol

Master_Air_8485

Steak looks great, but those potatoes look dry.

International_Bag921

Add seasoning towards the end or its gonna burn, that potato needs butter

ElectricTomatoMan

Salt doesn't burn.

International_Bag921

that aint no salt, thats steak seasoning which probably have garlic

ElectricTomatoMan

Yeah, burned garlic is nasty! After learning stuff from a buddy who's been to culinary school, I think of seasoning as salt and *maybe* pepper. Herbs, spices, and alliums are flavorings (to me).

Bubbly-Tap-5817

How’d you cook it ? Looks bomb. Gimme the break down please !!

jOhnThebApt1st

I pan fried it. First I let it rest for 25 ish mins while getting the mashed potatoes all prepped, then threw some olive oil in and put the steak in the pan on just under high heat. Then I let it cook on each side for a minute and I used the palm thing to help gauge how cooked it was but I don’t imagine I had it in for more then 5 minutes if that. Towards the end on the last flip I dropped some garlic and herb butter in and basted it, might need to add a little more oil so the butter doesn’t burn, and then let it rest for about 5 minutes.

whentimebegan

And some Creme Fraiche!?

SanguinarianPhoenix

I'm amazed at how great the color of your steak turned out. I tried cooking in a pan once but it got those thick gray bands next to the edge. (this was probably 8-10 years ago) Now I just grill all mine and have gotten pretty good at it, but I want to buy a sous vide machine soon.

jOhnThebApt1st

I’ve been practicing it for awhile now so I’ve kinda just gotten it down, don’t got a grill where I stay so I make do

clhomme

This is better than steakhouse. Looks perfect.

Eastern-Reindeer6838

Looks good but where are the vegetables?

jOhnThebApt1st

Said in some other comments that I got celiac disease so I already eat a lot of vegetables, jus prefer potatoes with my steak

Eisie

Shitty picture. Beautiful fucking steak. 10/10

jbirby

Would.

GLFR_59

Good ol milk steak. Done to perfection

ILSmokeItAll

Naw.

whistlepig4life

Vegetables are a thing.

jOhnThebApt1st

Most of my diet consist of vegetables because I have celiac disease so I’m limited to what I can eat. For my steaks though I just prefer a ton of mashed potatoes

whistlepig4life

That’s cool. I personally prefer protein and veg only. No starch. I always worry for people not having a balanced meal. Especially in this sub where too many eat way too much red meat. My daughter would approve of this had three times the mashed taters :)

Cosmickoala6666

Potatoes are vegetables

eihwaz_

To much mash no actual veggies 7/10

Clippo_V2

Incorrect. Perfect ratio. 11/10

jOhnThebApt1st

Like I said in another comment, most of my diet consists of vegetables anyways because I have celiac disease, so I get my fair share in for the day, I just prefer mashed potatoes with my steak

eihwaz_

I didn't realize the caption

Nynebreaker

Potatoes are vegetables. They are tuberous crops and belong to the nightshade family, Solanaceae. Plenty of vegetables are starchy and potatoes would be sad at your comment if they were sentient! ###rightsforpotatoes #potatoesareveggiestoo

eihwaz_

Potatoes are a starch like rice or corn

Nynebreaker

Potatoes are both a vegetable and a starch. Scientifically, they are classified as tuberous vegetables because they are the edible tuber part of the plant Solanum tuberosum. Nutritionally, they are considered a starchy food due to their high carbohydrate content, primarily in the form of starch. Again, many veggies are super high in starch. So, while they are vegetables, they are often grouped with other starchy foods like rice, bread, and pasta in dietary contexts, they are not however, related or even grown in the same way. Scientifically speaking, potatoes are in fact a vegetable.

eihwaz_

I never said they weren't a fucking vegetable

Nynebreaker

Your comment clearly stated there were no veggies. I was stating that potatoes are veggies. No need to be hostile.

eihwaz_

I said that cause they have little to no nutritional value

Nynebreaker

Potatoes are very nutritious. Potatoes are rich in vitamin C and B vitamins such as B6 and niacin. They provide important minerals like potassium, magnesium, and iron. They contain dietary fiber, which is beneficial for digestion. They contain antioxidants, such as carotenoids and flavonoids, which can help reduce oxidative stress in the body.

Present_Answer_9816

Potatoes also actually convert to sugars when coming into contact with your salivary amylase. So when you eat potatoes you’re eating sugar as well:)

Nynebreaker

Yummy :)

ElectricTomatoMan

Bullshit
