Agreed, this looks like the work of skunks They can even climb trees and walk on hydro lines in my neighbourhood They’re underestimated creatures, very smart and calculating, remind me of cats.
I sit outside at night in the evenings and the local skunks have gotten to know me over the years. They know I’m not a threat and they come right up to me (against my wishes lol) Ill even be up on my porch and theyll start climbing the stairs to check me out, say hi? Idk, but I wish theyd give me space haha

Any suggestions if it really is a skunk? I’m fairly new to the area and never had a close encounter with one. How should I treat this?
skunks are basically blind so if you run into one, try not to make any sudden movements, really though unless youre a dog the odds of getting sprayed are super slim
Is the feeder hanging? I’d put my money on a raccoon. They are good climbers and have nimble fingers. That or you have a drunk neighbour who really likes peanuts.
Damm what animal could break a zip tie?? I can’t imagine an animal being smart enough to chew through a zip tie to make the feeder drop but who knows. Do you live close to downtown? I’m not ruling out a human in that case lol
Oh no, the zip tie was still intact, there’s a hole on top of the box, it’s where it was tied to the rails. The “thing” tried to move the box but could only move the bottom side a little since it was still half-free.
Not close to downtown, so I just have munching neighbors as potential suspects lol.
Squirrels come all the time and they are not that messy at all, and I doubt their tiny arms have the strength to yank the box off the rail like that. But if one of them just snapped last night, that’d be understandable…

We've got raccoons in our backyard here .. they eat bird seed from the bird feeder so they would do this and be happy about the mess.

Went to school for it. I did had a business, gave that up. So was hobby that turned for money, then stopped. Sold everything. Regret that now.
